New Haven Railroad DERS-2c ALCO RS3 locomotive # 544, is seen spotted on a track in what appears to be a locomotive service area at in unknown yard, early 1960's. In the background there appears to be a roundhouse at this location. The RS-3 is wearing a version of the McGinnis paint scheme, while the locomotive seen in the background is wearing the Alpert paint scheme. The 45 RS-3 locomotives purchased by the New Haven Railroad between 1950 & 1952 all had steam generators when originally purchased, so they could be used as dual service engines.
The name of the photographer that took this photo is unknown. This photo is from the Mac Seabree Collection.

It was very dangerous to standing on the middle of track. I shot this image during Sunday early morning while it was not busy day.

This rail yard is located in Williamson, West Virginia. I took it out the window of my son-in-law's truck as we drove by it last Wednesday on our way on over to Gilbert, WV.
Silver Lake Sand Dunes.
Fun place. Where else can you drive around all day on four flat tires, play in the sand, swim in a lake, watch mud boggers, sand rails, dirt bikes, quads, trucks, Jeeps, and even the occasional monster bus, blast around in the sand. To top it all off, there are numerous high places from which to watch the sun set at the end of the day.
I need to go back.
Taken with homemade pinhole (the Anyway35) 3.5 x 3.5 paper negative (Ilford MG IV RC) developed in Caffenol-C. It was near sundown, so I probably should have exposed it longer, but I kind of like it anyway.
Driving around tonight we found a spot worth stopping at in 15F weather. Interesting location with a friendly cat.
On my way home tonight I decided to get down and dirty on the train track near Hon Kawagoe station. I was on a small pedestrian crossing and nearly got run over about 5 times (by people flying passed on their bicycles, not by a train).
An early morning view of the perfectly straight rail line between Cardiff and Newport.

The rails are still in place and the rust on them not withstanding look to be in reasonably good condition. This is the former Erie Railroad passenger line that ran via Youngstown. The view of this former Erie Lackawanna route is in Niles, Ohio.
The low winter sun reflecting off the iron rails.
