Scavenge challenge : 7. Rails of any sort may be used for this assignment (fence, train, guard, hand, etc.)
The old WCF&N rail line to Cedar Rapids still has rails in place at the Shaulis Rd crossing in rural Waterloo, Iowa After the WCF&N ended service, the Waterloo area tracks became the Waterloo RR. I'm not sure if the line to CR was Waterloo RR or was taken over completely by the Illinois Central. I believe the last train on this line was at the very latest in the early 1980s After rail service ended it became the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.

"Well I look over yonder across the plain
The big drive wheels are poundin' along the ground
Gonna get on board and I'll be homeward bound
Now I ain't had a home cooked meal
And lord I need one now
And the big steel rail gonna carry me
Home to the one I love."

Let's call it a day for the time being, my friends!! I have closed down the comment box for uploads henceforward. I don't wanna be rude and unfair - receiving comments but not returning any. I don't know when I am gonna reopen the comment box; only time knows, I guess!

Looking 'inside' a photograph, I always try to unravel the secret of the presented being, all the joy and sorrows, and first of all mysterious human fate.

Southern Railway EMD SD9 diesel electric locomotives # 202 & # 207, are seen while working in the yard duty at Atlanta, Georgia, May 1983. Combined, these old EMD locomotives still provide plenty of starting tractive effort to move heavy loads and to work hump service in the yard. I believe that these locomotive were originally purchased by the Central of Georgia Railroad in 1955. (Source - American Rails.com) The EMD SD9 began production in early 1954, soon after the SD7 line was closed. The model used GM's latest prime mover of the time, the 16-cylinder model 567C which provided the SD9 a 1,750 horsepower rating, 250 more horsepower than the earlier SD7. Also, using GM's model D47 traction motors the C-C truck setup provided for a continuous tractive effort of 75,000 pounds (its starting tractive effort was nearly 91,000 pounds), which also closely mirrored the SD7. These locomotives could have been further modernized with a chopped nose and prime mover up-grade to a 567D engine specifications of 1,800 hp.
Here's a bit of a funky angle on some narrow gauge rails in Orbisonia, PA. These once guided untold tonnage of equipment and passengers for the East Broad Top Railroad. The actual rail line shut down operations back in 1956, but then the Scenic Railroad started up soon after. Sadly, as of 2011, the scenic operations shut down. EBT is currently awaiting a willing buyer to hopefully get it up and running again.
