Nathan, Leon and I were in the studio this afternoon bouncing ideas off eachother and trying all kinds of lighting and posing variations. This concept came from Nathans creative little brain and was brought to life by the three of us. We hope you enjoy.
Although intended for high-speed passenger service, and capable of speeds over 100 mph, Norfolk & Western's 14 J-Class steamers had relatively short careers, ranging from 10-20 years, depending on how early they were built. At the end of their service lives, some of these engines were relegated to freight service, as depicted in this 2019 re-creation at Pennsylvania's Strasburg Railroad. Here, we see the sole survivor of the class, #611 hauling a vintage freight through farm fields not unlike what she would have seen in Virginia. This image was captured as the train climbed the grade out of Paradise, PA on the sweeping curve named for the late Henry K. Long, a former Chairman of the Board of the Strasburg Railroad.
Combating climate change and making the planet greener and cleaner is an issue for everyone. Climate change is no longer a distant, futuristic scenario, but an immediate threat. How times have changed since World Environment Day was launched by the United Nations General Assembly 36 years ago. We wonder if they considered then that today climate change, global warming, natural disasters and the effects of global climate change --- deforestation, desertification, flooding, sea-level rise, beach erosion and other environmental impacts would have such an impact on world hunger and poverty.
Climate change is expected to put an estimated 50 million more people at risk of hunger and water stress by 2020. By 2050 a third of the people on Earth may lack a clean, secure source of water. It poses a serious threat to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially during a period of global economic recession, when resources needed to cope with climate change may be reassigned.
Poor people in developing countries are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The negative impacts on their crop yields are already being felt and will be increasingly severe. Climate change is likely to affect forest expansion and migration, and exacerbate threats to biodiversity resulting from land use/cover change and population pressure. Marine and coastal ecosystems are likely to be affected by sea level rise and temperature increases. Human health will also be adversely affected. Rising temperatures and rainfall variability had led to more climate-induced diseases and heat stress. Experts predict climate change-related stresses -- including disasters, food and water shortages and conflicts over scarce resources -- could permanently uproot 200 to 250 million people by mid-century. In many countries defence forces might find themselves torn between humanitarian relief operations and guarding their borders against climate refugees, as climate change and scarce resources, forcing millions of climate refugees across the borders.
United Nations demographers estimate that the world’s population will grow from today’s 6.7 billion people to somewhere between 7.8 billion and 10.8 billion by 2050. The solutions of global warming, climate refugees, extreme poverty and high levels of population growth will require entirely new relationships between the world’s human and natural systems. The world has yet to figure out how it will deal with global warming, changing rainfall patterns, melting glaciers, rising sea-levels and climate refugees.
According to new technique and research our planet's continents were arranged 2.5 billion years ago. We are homo consumens of the earth and very young specie still trying to understand the mysteries of nature and in our ignorance we have destroyed it. Climate change offers humanity no second chances. Only rich countries can break the deadlock crippling international climate negotiations and prevent the world lurching into climate disaster. We should find a way to measure the general well-being of the people and planet rather than just raw economic growth.

Iedere zondagmorgen rijdt er een trein van de Valleilijn door Putten, op weg naar de wasstraat in Zwolle. En na zijn poetsbeurt keert deze trein dan weer terug naar Amersfoort.
Vandag waren het twee Protossen, maar het hadden ook Flirts of zelfs de enige Mat'64 in Valleilijn-kleuren kunnen zijn. De tijden lijken steeds hetzelfde, de samenstelling kan iedere week varieren.
Hier rijdt Protos 5034 voorop en nadert station Putten. Vanmiddag komt het setje blinkend schoon en goed voor de zon weer terug door Putten. Voor de snelle beslissers: Dat zal om 15:02 uur zijn.

Bird ringing generates information on the survival, productivity and movements of birds, helping us to understand why populations are changing.
Ringing data make a major contribution to the study of population changes and to our understanding of species declines. Bird populations are determined by the number of fledglings raised and the survival of both juveniles and adults. Whilst ringers collect data on survival, volunteers for the Nest Record Scheme collect information on productivity. The results can be analysed in combination with population trend data, such as that collected through the BTO/JNCC/RSPB Breeding Bird Survey, to determine at which stage of a bird’s life cycle there might be a problem. This enables scientists and conservationists to target appropriate mitigation measures.
It usually takes a year or more, ringing regularly with qualified ringers, to obtain a ringing permit.
Basic bird identification skills and reasonable dexterity are required.
Put a $16 Holga HL-C lens on a $1,000 Sony a6300 cmera body and take your chances. I especially like the gritty, grungy street look.

I've shot this underground garage a number of times during the day, but when I put them up on the monitor they are MEH! Those shots were taken during the day.
I passed by in the early evening, looked a bit different so I shot it again with several metering points, picked 2 out about 30 hots . . . added a little Lightroom to help me interpret the scene, and this is what I got.
Funny how over time or in different conditions scenes you have walked past or photographed unsuccessfully in the past, suddenly pop-up in a new configuration .
I'm pretty sure there's something Jungian re my fascination about scenes like this . . . 🤔
Sadly in November 2020 we had to have the lovely Mandy put to sleep. she became very poorly she was 14 so a good age she was a rescue cat and had her for 2 years. Hopefully she had a much better life with us and we loved her very much,. January 2021,,, Here is Nellie who we got from the local RSPCA. She is 15 year old , totally deaf, has very stiff back legs, and a teary eye, She has the loudest meow we have ever heard before (perhaps because she is deaf) and she love fuss and loves to nuzzle our faces. We hope she will have a happy safe, loving home with us in her elderly years ..xx
Ik vind het leuk om onder lastige omstandigheden toch te proberen om een mooie foto te maken. Het is immers niet iedere dag stralend mooi weer met de zon in de rug.
Schemering vind ik altijd een mooi moment van de dag omdat je het kunstlicht dan erg duidelijk kunt zien. Zo ook vanavond, als om 21:09 uur deze lege legertrein door station Putten komt. De frontseinen van de lok stralen voluit op de foto, maar je kunt toch nog details en kleur op de lok zien. Om deze foto te laten slagen moest ik mijn ISO opschroeven naar 1600 en mijn sluitertijd laten zakken tot 1/200e. En dat terwijl de trein ongeveer 80 km/h reed.
Well last time I uploaded one of these Vamooz machines - at Showbus 17 - I put I'd never seen one since... but it turns out there was one at the following year's Showbus so I've seen at least one. Again, it is a former West Midlands President B7TL, but this time belonging to The Green Bus rather than Transdev.
W112 DOP is pictured at the top of the arrivals/departures area for the bus tours, departing from the 'bus station' seen to the right. The term Bus Station is is used very loosely here, since the sign attached to the barrier was basically all it consisted of.
