Put out an extra Goodie Bowls for the Critters today since the temperatures are taking a nose dive over the next few days, making it feel more like Winter than the middle of Fall.
It was like Grand Central Station with all the activity. This resourceful squirrel jumped on the pumpkin left over from our Harvest Fest to get the layout of all the Goodie Bowls.
I put it all on black tonight and the house won. The weather forecast did mention scattered clouds, but NOAA’s space forecast showed a G3 geomagnetic storm that was too great of an opportunity to pass up. The location had been decided upon many weeks ago and all that remained was the guarantee of northern light activity. Without dancing greens and reds overhead I tried to make to best of the situation and ended up pretty happy with the results. The movement of the clouds, the green auroras on the horizon, the majestic old elevators and a few resilient sparkling stars all made for a fun composition.

School starts for me on September first, and I would normally be pretty excited, if I wasn't going to end up in the same Psychology class as my older sister T___T
Five roots blown 2000 hp GP38-series locomotives put on a stunning show. While this sight was something to behold, it was the sound of these classics running full out cresting Royalston Hill that was unforgettable! For a moment it felt like 1977 and Alan Dustin's Boston & Maine not Mellon and Fink's Pan Am of 2020.
Pan Am Southern train 27W with 65 loaded auto racks for Davisville, RI by way of Gardner and the P&W is eastbound at MP 355 on Pan Am's freight main, the former Boston & Maine Fitchburg Route. This is the first load of autos to come east since the Hoosac Tunnel collapsed nearly three weeks ago severing the normal route. This train diverged from its regular routing at Mohawk Yard and detoured circuitously via CP to Whitehall, NY; Vermont Rail System to Bellows Falls, VT; and NECR to Millers Falls, MA to regain its regular route. However axle loading restrictions on the VTR lead to these five classic four motor units being pulled from yard and local service to hit the high iron as opposed this train's normal modern six axle power.
Former B&M searchlights continue to serve standing just east of the Baldwinville Road crossing and the granite milepost helps set the scene which is why this is probably my favorite image of dozens captured on a fabulous 25 mile chase from Erving to Gardner.

I put on this colourful dress , thought I'd try the little black number . But looking out of window , cold & wet today , had to change for a 3rd time .
This 3D montage was put together by one of my best Flickr Friends, Doc Whats, and I was most impressed by it. In fact, I asked Doc if he could do some more! Some of Doc's 3D images will be appearing in my end-of-year fashion review in December. Thanks again, Doc!
In a couple of days I am off to a secret location in Central Europe, to participate in what the organizers (Prinzess Hildegarde von Trapp is amongst them!) describe as "the most extravagant and depraved orgy yet in the history of European Decadence". Around a dozen members of The Sodality are travelling out with me, for three days of unrelenting lewdness and outrageous promiscuity. I promise to tell you all about my adventures on my return - which will be at the beginning of next week!

Wie vaker overdag op het station komt zal ze ongetwijfeld wel eens hebben gezien. Vaders en moeders, opa's en oma's die samen mij hun (klein)kinderen treintjes gaan kijken bij het station. Want op de één of andere manier zijn treinen toch iets fascinerends voor kleine kinderen (en opa's).
Vandaag wilde ik de ATO testtrein fotograferen en trof ik deze jonge moeder op het perron. Na eerst trekkers en graafmachines te hebben gekeken bij grondverzetbedrijf van der Mheen was moeder met haar zoon doorgereden naar het station.
Hier kijken ze samen naar de intercity die vanuit Zwolle richting Amersfoort passeert.

De eerste sneeuwval van dit seizoen is een feit. Stond ik vijf uur geleden nog een strakblauwe zonsondergang te fotograferen, vanavond liep ik de eerste "kâhwe klâhwe" op tijdens een sneeuwbui. De foto mag dan niet bijzonder zijn, ik wilde het toch graag even vastleggen.
Binnen de paar tellen dat ik mijn camera op de trein richtte sloegen de eerste sneeuwvlokken al tegen de lens. Dat is dan ook de reden van de vervelende lichtreflecties in het beel. Maar het hoort allemaal bij de belevenis.

Already I've put up two Christmas trees. It's been several years since I've even put up one. Well... wasn't my intention to put up more than one but the first one wasn't my favorite and if you're going to do something for the first time in a long while then DO IT RIGHT!
So now, to eliminate confusion in the future I've packed up the older tree and it's going to ReStore so that someone who might not have a tree will have a prettier one than the two that they had last week on their floor.
ReStore is a retail division of Habitat for Humanity. There's one fairly close to our home and we've been in it a few times recently and have donated several items that were still in good condition but we wanted something different in place of the ones we removed. They're a very generous organization that ensures homes to those in need that could not afford a house. This is our past President Jimmy Carter's favorite charity and he donates his time and presence often. My brother-in-law is a retired architect/builder who also donates of his time and knowledge to Habitat. Yes, I support ReStore - have several items going to them now.
I love dresses but I also enjoy slacks and casual look when i go out on errands

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Het sneeuwt, en dus mag een wit plaatje van de Dolime in Putten niet ontbreken. Prorail bedient de wissels nu liever niet, en dus mocht de Dolime vol gas door Putten heen, in plaats van te wachten op het zijspoor.
Recently I put together a gallery of echinacea images, there are so many gorgeous ones out there. But I did notice that most were of the traditional pink ones. So I just had to post some more of the white ones! And as it's tuesday, these are with butterflies...

When the Alaska Railroad purchased two SD70MACs from the KCS I was curious as to what number series they would be in. Well the wait is over as they are 4130 as seen here and the other is 4129. This view shows the slightly lighter yellow and what appears to me to be a slightly different font. Nonetheless the railroad will put these units to good use. I believe this was the first revenue run in the new skin.
Een gebroken bovenleiding tussen Amersfoort en Deventer zorgde ervoor dat er last minute enkele IC Berlijners moesten worden omgeleid via Putten. Ik was vrij en hoorde tijdig wat er stond te gebeuren. Dat was mooi mazzel, want de IC Berlijn gaat binnen zéér afzienbare tijd met andere treinen rijden, en dan zal de Vectron van NS een zeldzame aanblik worden hier in Putten. Daarom nog een keer met plezier de IC Berlijn gefotografeerd in typisch Puttens perspectief.
I finally put my ND8 filter to good use this Saturday! The waves were crashing the shore with such a might while the wind was destroying the beach but the sky was deep blue with spectacular clouds moving very fast. I could barely hold myself vertical to the ground :( and one time the sandy wave and mist pelted me and my camera pretty good.... It was very windy this day about 50 mph winds or even higher and at the lake it makes it worse since there are no barriers. But I think it was worth it.
This was a long exposure (1/6 second) around 2 P.M. when during the windiest time on the Lake Erie. I took this in RAW and processed it in Lightroom including black and white conversion. By the way I believe that Lightroom is one of the programs to use for b&w conversion :D

Wie zegt dat je met tegenlicht niets kunt? Onzin! Als je het goed gebruikt kun je mooie variaties maken op standaard foto's. Je moet er alleen wel even mee aan de slag, want makkelijk is het niet altijd. En dus probeerde ik vanmiddag de de UC Onnen te fotograferen. Een 189'er met twee keteltjes. En zeg nou zelf, het is weer eens iets anders. Verandering van spijs........
