Put another 'x' on the calendar

Summer's on it's deathbed

There is simply nothing worse than knowing how it ends

And I meant everything I said that night

I will come back to life

But only for you

Only for you~♥

Just another shot of Temp from my trip to the beach :)

School starts for me on September first, and I would normally be pretty excited, if I wasn't going to end up in the same Psychology class as my older sister T___T

This 3D montage was put together by one of my best Flickr Friends, Doc Whats, and I was most impressed by it. In fact, I asked Doc if he could do some more! Some of Doc's 3D images will be appearing in my end-of-year fashion review in December. Thanks again, Doc!

In a couple of days I am off to a secret location in Central Europe, to participate in what the organizers (Prinzess Hildegarde von Trapp is amongst them!) describe as "the most extravagant and depraved orgy yet in the history of European Decadence". Around a dozen members of The Sodality are travelling out with me, for three days of unrelenting lewdness and outrageous promiscuity. I promise to tell you all about my adventures on my return - which will be at the beginning of next week!

In the meantime… Toodle Pip!

August is so busy. I'm doing the produce thing. Tomatoes and sweet corn are being processed this week!

I still take an early morning walk to clear the noggin' before digging into the garden/produce work.

It will taste awesome come this winter!

Miss M checking her reflection in Christine's mirror! How did the car get its name? It is a '58 Plymouth, the same car made famous in the Horror Classic 'Christine' during the making of which 13 of these beautiful cars were destroyed!)

Put new light seals in my dad's Minolta SRT 101 (my first film camera). I picked up a new lens, a rangefinder-style 21mm that requires the mirror to be locked up. It's zone-focus only, and framing is done with an external finder.

I had put these five photos aside when I last deleted a few more photos from my computer. Gradually, I will add the description that I had written under a different posted photo taken on the same day.

"This photo was taken on my last visit to the Calgary Zoo, on 14 October 2014. By now, the butterfly display may have come to an end, and there will be no butterflies till sometime, I think, in April next year. On my last visit, there were quite a few butterflies, but very few different kinds - and it was only occasionally that one of them would land and stay. This was one of the very few co-operative ones that I was lucky enough to catch. I rather liked the way it was perched near the tip of this beautiful, pink-edged leaf. Tried to find an ID last night, but without luck. Not sure if I've ever seen this kind before - couldn't see one in my Tropical Butterfly album."

Already I've put up two Christmas trees. It's been several years since I've even put up one. Well... wasn't my intention to put up more than one but the first one wasn't my favorite and if you're going to do something for the first time in a long while then DO IT RIGHT!

So now, to eliminate confusion in the future I've packed up the older tree and it's going to ReStore so that someone who might not have a tree will have a prettier one than the two that they had last week on their floor.

ReStore is a retail division of Habitat for Humanity. There's one fairly close to our home and we've been in it a few times recently and have donated several items that were still in good condition but we wanted something different in place of the ones we removed. They're a very generous organization that ensures homes to those in need that could not afford a house. This is our past President Jimmy Carter's favorite charity and he donates his time and presence often. My brother-in-law is a retired architect/builder who also donates of his time and knowledge to Habitat. Yes, I support ReStore - have several items going to them now.

Put an island in the middle of the tropical bit of an ocean (here Reunion Island in the middle of Indian Ocean).

Make it receive tons of sunlight and tons of rain.

Fill it with a hot and moist atmosphere before you also fill it with mountains with sides just less vertical than walls.

There you go. You have it.

Impenetrable.

Also, it may look like a giant mess but it has to be another perfect natural organisation where, if you remove one element, the entire assemble may collapse.

Pretty much like me after trekking there for over a week.

We liked it and we put a ring on it! 💍

You might remember the Southern Ring Nebula was one of the first images released from Webb. Webb saw two stars within the nebula: 1) the dying star that created the nebula by blowing off its layers, and 2) a companion that orbits it. But now, after carefully studying Webb data, scientists believe that there may be more hidden companions that have helped shape the gas and dust of this nebula, potentially a total of 5 stars!

Each of these two views of the Southern Ring combine near- and mid-infrared data from Webb. On the left, the selected infrared wavelengths highlight the very hot gas that surrounds the two central stars. The central star that created the nebula is shown here in red; the companion is white/blue. On the right, different infrared wavelengths show the outflows from the star that reach out into space.

Read more about these findings: www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2022/nasa-s-webb-indicates-s...

Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, and O. De Marco (Macquarie University), with image processing by J. DePasquale (STScI).

Image description: Two views of the Southern Ring Nebula, taken by the Webb telescope, are shown side by side. Both feature black backgrounds and show the planetary nebula as a misshapen oval that is slightly angled from the top left to the bottom right. At left, the image shows two stars that are almost overlapping at the center. The top left star appears white and the bottom right appears red. A large almost solid white oval surrounds the central stars. It takes up about a quarter of the view. At right, the image shows one prominent star at the center. A large translucent pink-and-red irregular oval surrounds it. This approximately matches the size of what’s shown in the image at left. Unlike the left image, a lot of wispy, wavy material extends outward all around this region in the right image, particularly jutting out towards the top and bottom.

That's generally what I do on Friday afternoons

Recently I put together a gallery of echinacea images, there are so many gorgeous ones out there. But I did notice that most were of the traditional pink ones. So I just had to post some more of the white ones! And as it's tuesday, these are with butterflies...

Happy Butterfly Tuesday :-)

I have loads of shots of this butterfly, both on white and pink echinaceas, taken on the same day. Might post more of them later, I just have to spend enough time to choose...

Snow put up with a small, polite group of paparazzi well above her on the side of the road for quite a while, then decided it was time to retreat to the back country. This is the only photo I got of her with light at a favorable angle, then in an instant, she was in the woods and out of sight.

This is the 4-year old female grizzly nicknamed "Snow" for her beautiful light torso fur, set off by the contrast with the darker fur of her legs, hump, and face. She is the 2015 cub of Raspberry, one of Yellowstone's "road bears" meaning she spends a lot of her time near a major road which has, over the years, allowed thousands of thrilled people to view her and her cubs. She is the mother of Snow, whom she raised in front of human eyes, and shared her winter den with until they came out of hibernation/estuvation in the summer of 2018. Characteristic female grizzly behavior is to chase away mostly-grown cubs in late spring after two winters together. After Raspberry and Snow finally separated, it was hoped Raspberry and/or Snow might show up in 2019 with cubs. Neither mother nor daughter appeared with cubs this year. While Raspberry still grazes in the old burn area, I spotted Snow several miles farther east along the same road. Snow looks like she's in good nutritional condition to last through the coming winter curled up in the protection of her own den, and with any good luck, to emerge for the first time with one or more of her own cubs in the spring of 2020.

I put the Nikon F (is it just called F? That's all it says) on the tripod with a 90-230mm lens and took the back off. When you opened the shutter you could see straight through it so I decided to shoot it from the other direction. I have no idea why we have a traffic cone in our yard though...View On Black

I finally put my ND8 filter to good use this Saturday! The waves were crashing the shore with such a might while the wind was destroying the beach but the sky was deep blue with spectacular clouds moving very fast. I could barely hold myself vertical to the ground :( and one time the sandy wave and mist pelted me and my camera pretty good.... It was very windy this day about 50 mph winds or even higher and at the lake it makes it worse since there are no barriers. But I think it was worth it.

This was a long exposure (1/6 second) around 2 P.M. when during the windiest time on the Lake Erie. I took this in RAW and processed it in Lightroom including black and white conversion. By the way I believe that Lightroom is one of the programs to use for b&w conversion :D

~This is best Viewed Large~ Have a nice day Everyone!

P.S. Don't worry folks the colored one will follow too very soon! :) I took many interesting captures at this place. Matter of fact I filled my memory card with them especially considering some perspective HDR shots :D

This angry little lady was sitting at the tip-top of one of the weeds in the rewilding area. She's a Brown Crab Spider, or Xysticus ferox, and a pretty big one at that! Like other crab spiders (Thomisidae), she's quickly identifiable by those super long front legs held out in a crab-like posture!

Honestly didn't think this was a spider, because all I saw was a pretty big (10mm?) dark spot in the crook of the leaves. Normally, that means some kind of beetle, so I leaned in to figure it out... This perfectly pissed off pair of peepers are what peered back at me! Once I pulled myself together, I managed to snag this shot.

At macro distances, you can truly get a feel for how armored these things are. Her legs are seriously beefy, and no doubt responsible for some dead insects in my yard. On top of that, the chelicerae are abnormally wide, implying there's some real force behind her bites! Outside of the usual scientific nerdery, though, I couldn't help but laugh at the pose. It's almost like she threw her arms up to challenge me to a fight!

...My money's on her.

This shot was captured using my Vivitar (Komine) 90mm f2.8 Macro in 1:1. This photo is uncropped. This insidious instigator is around 10-11mm long.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Day 236 (v 15.0) - let 'em know

Nature put on quite the show last night out at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Lots of lightning, plenty of stars, and even a few meteors zipping across the sky.

If you'd like to purchase prints of my photos please visit ericbenedetti.smugmug.com/, prints of all sizes and types (canvas, framed, mounted, or just paper) are available.

"I was "new meat" once. I made my mistakes, put my foot in my beak. Every member of the Green Lantern Corps has a... past. But from the moment you put on that ring, you are a new being. And you can make everything right. If not to your friend... then to the universe." --Tomar-Re (New Earth)

I'm so very proud to finally share Tomar with you guys! He is one of my favorite Corps members and it's taken me so long to find the perfect combination of Lego (and custom stuff too ;) ) to complete him.

...Now if only Toy Story arms and legs came in dark green :P

I haven't seen a whole lot of customs of him floating around here on flickr, so I hope I did his Lego appearance justice. I'm hoping he'll be in LB3 (Lego Batman 3) so I can have some fun comparing :P

Anyway, I'm really really happy how he turned out.

Let me know what you guys think. I'd love to hear some feedback :)

A tree plays a galactic tune off the north star in this star trail.

A star trail is a type of photograph that utilizes long-exposure times to capture the apparent motion of stars in the night sky due to the rotation of the Earth. A star trail photograph shows individual stars as streaks across the image, with longer exposures resulting in longer streaks.
