I put off my picture again until the last minute and tried to shoot a water droplet illuminated by an off-camera flash with a purple gel. Working with speed lights has always been a frustrating experience for me as I have not mastered how to set them up or control them properly. This is the best of the bunch and it is not sharp or clear, but sometimes we have to fail to figure out the areas that need improvement. I might have to keep working on this type of image until I master it.
After she closed the door she put her hair back into a ponytail. I looked around her. There was a man sitting at a small table reading a newspaper and a woman doing something at the kitchen counter. The man looked up from the paper and saw us. He got a strange expression on his face.
"How did you get in to our apartment?" He said standing up.
Hearing this the woman turned around holding two mugs. Seeing us, she gasped and dropped one the glass mugs she was carrying. The glass shattered across the floor. The woman ( who I had met on the roof) made a beeline for the small balcony in the apartment, and I followed close behind.
"Excuse us." She said hardly looking at the startled couple.
The pain in my shoulder was getting worse as was every other pain. We went out on the balcony, I looked over side. There was a ladder leading down to the ground. Not wanting to jump from another building, I said.
"Over here." I motioned her over.
"You first." She said waving her hand to the ladder.
I started down the ladder, the woman looked anxiously back in forth waiting for me. But halfway down the ladder my fingers slipped off the rungs and I fell, for the second time that day.

Much ink has been spilled over the Corrupt Vision Vancouver obsession with bikes. City Hall has been criticized for the Hornby bike lanes, lack of enforcement against Critical Mass protesters , the suggestion of removing parking along Stanley Park's Pipeline Road for more cycle paths and for looking at radical changes to the Granville and Cambie bridges, to name just a few And of course for trying to put poor people on bicycles while Foliticians drive huge German gas guzzlers

Bird ringing generates information on the survival, productivity and movements of birds, helping us to understand why populations are changing.
Ringing data make a major contribution to the study of population changes and to our understanding of species declines. Bird populations are determined by the number of fledglings raised and the survival of both juveniles and adults. Whilst ringers collect data on survival, volunteers for the Nest Record Scheme collect information on productivity. The results can be analysed in combination with population trend data, such as that collected through the BTO/JNCC/RSPB Breeding Bird Survey, to determine at which stage of a bird’s life cycle there might be a problem. This enables scientists and conservationists to target appropriate mitigation measures.
It usually takes a year or more, ringing regularly with qualified ringers, to obtain a ringing permit.
Basic bird identification skills and reasonable dexterity are required.
Jerry, second turkey from the left of your screen put the run on four of the "street gang six" who were causing a rucus. The other two hightailed it down the bottom of our laneway because, after all, Jerry is much bigger.
I am sure that Jerry was not impressed that their highjinx could have resulted in my stopping the breakfast buffet until everyone got along thus the reason for chasing them off.

Arriva put the first HT’s in service yesterday, on their newly won 202.
I had a quick ride on HT7 today and although it wasn’t on the other side of this stand at Blackheath Standard as I’d hoped I still grabbed this picture. HT1-17 are for the 202 at Norwood Garage, the balance of HT18-28 will be delivered shortly for the 405 at Croydon.

Op zondag 19 november is de formele afscheidsrit van de 1700 lok in NS dienst. Voor de gelegenheid zijn twee lokken bestickerd met de tekst "Na 30 jaar trouwe dienst zwaai ik af". Ook de rijtuigen hebben een speciale sticker "19.11.2023 Abschiedsfahrt / Afsheidrit NS 1700" (ja, met een klein schrijffoutje aan één kant).
Vandaag werd de hele stam overgebracht naar Amersfoort, van waar de afscheidsrit zijn ronde gaat maken door Nederland. Nu met lok 1750 voorop en lok 1761 achterop, maar morgen precies andersom wederom door Putten.
Ondanks de stromende regen hadden zich zeker een stuk of 25 spotters in Putten verzameld om dit tafereeltje vast te leggen. Ik weet niet of dat was omdat de trein er even aan de kant moest, of dat spotters Putten gewoon een mooi motief voor een foto vinden. Als je er ook was, zet dan je motivatie even voor me in de commentaren, als je wilt.
Uiteraard trotseerde ik ook de regen, want deze laatste kans om "mijn eigen lokken" te fotograferen pak ik natuurlijk met beide handen aan. History in the making......

In January 2001, London route 185 was won under competitive tendering by Durham Travel Services T/A 'London Easylink'. This operator was, to put it politely, a cowboy. It all fell apart (including arrests I believe!) in August 2002. Blue Triangle hastily stepped in and arranged an emergency service, using anyone who had spare buses. This was what it looked like shortly afterwards at the end of August.
This Metrobus Olympian had just arrived at Victoria. The driver had already changed the destination ready for the return trip. At least it said Lewisham, even if the intermediate points were wrong!

Put out an extra Goodie Bowls for the Critters today since the temperatures are taking a nose dive over the next few days, making it feel more like Winter than the middle of Fall.
It was like Grand Central Station with all the activity. This resourceful squirrel jumped on the pumpkin left over from our Harvest Fest to get the layout of all the Goodie Bowls.
I put it all on black tonight and the house won. The weather forecast did mention scattered clouds, but NOAA’s space forecast showed a G3 geomagnetic storm that was too great of an opportunity to pass up. The location had been decided upon many weeks ago and all that remained was the guarantee of northern light activity. Without dancing greens and reds overhead I tried to make to best of the situation and ended up pretty happy with the results. The movement of the clouds, the green auroras on the horizon, the majestic old elevators and a few resilient sparkling stars all made for a fun composition.
Ik vind het leuk om onder lastige omstandigheden toch te proberen om een mooie foto te maken. Het is immers niet iedere dag stralend mooi weer met de zon in de rug.
Schemering vind ik altijd een mooi moment van de dag omdat je het kunstlicht dan erg duidelijk kunt zien. Zo ook vanavond, als om 21:09 uur deze lege legertrein door station Putten komt. De frontseinen van de lok stralen voluit op de foto, maar je kunt toch nog details en kleur op de lok zien. Om deze foto te laten slagen moest ik mijn ISO opschroeven naar 1600 en mijn sluitertijd laten zakken tot 1/200e. En dat terwijl de trein ongeveer 80 km/h reed.
Zo zie je ze maanden lang niet, en zo pak je twee omgeleide IC Berlijners met een Vectron binnen een middag.
Door een gebroken bovenleiding tussen Deventer en Amersfoort werd deze IC Berlijn omgeleid en passeerde mij aan de Stenenkamerse weg. Dankbaar maakte ik deze foto, wetende dat het tijdperk van de door Vectrons getrokken IC Berlijn op zijn einde loopt.

August is so busy. I'm doing the produce thing. Tomatoes and sweet corn are being processed this week!
I still take an early morning walk to clear the noggin' before digging into the garden/produce work.

In a couple of days I am off to a secret location in Central Europe, to participate in what the organizers (Prinzess Hildegarde von Trapp is amongst them!) describe as "the most extravagant and depraved orgy yet in the history of European Decadence". Around a dozen members of The Sodality are travelling out with me, for three days of unrelenting lewdness and outrageous promiscuity. I promise to tell you all about my adventures on my return - which will be at the beginning of next week!

Put new light seals in my dad's Minolta SRT 101 (my first film camera). I picked up a new lens, a rangefinder-style 21mm that requires the mirror to be locked up. It's zone-focus only, and framing is done with an external finder.

I had put these five photos aside when I last deleted a few more photos from my computer. Gradually, I will add the description that I had written under a different posted photo taken on the same day.
"This photo was taken on my last visit to the Calgary Zoo, on 14 October 2014. By now, the butterfly display may have come to an end, and there will be no butterflies till sometime, I think, in April next year. On my last visit, there were quite a few butterflies, but very few different kinds - and it was only occasionally that one of them would land and stay. This was one of the very few co-operative ones that I was lucky enough to catch. I rather liked the way it was perched near the tip of this beautiful, pink-edged leaf. Tried to find an ID last night, but without luck. Not sure if I've ever seen this kind before - couldn't see one in my Tropical Butterfly album."
