I put out a throw rug, so the homeless cats would not have to stand on ice to eat. When I came back with three bowls of kibble, this is what I saw.

Put in less wool and spread it out some more and found it created far more sparks than last time.

Nathan, Leon and I were in the studio this afternoon bouncing ideas off eachother and trying all kinds of lighting and posing variations. This concept came from Nathans creative little brain and was brought to life by the three of us. We hope you enjoy.

I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo, so I'm really into this now.

I might be boring soon, but drawing tattoos is so much fun. I've already started working on another one.

Put some cake crumbs out for the sparrows. Along came ratty, looked, sniffed and wandered on by. Was he trying to tell me something?

I put off my picture again until the last minute and tried to shoot a water droplet illuminated by an off-camera flash with a purple gel. Working with speed lights has always been a frustrating experience for me as I have not mastered how to set them up or control them properly. This is the best of the bunch and it is not sharp or clear, but sometimes we have to fail to figure out the areas that need improvement. I might have to keep working on this type of image until I master it.

With any photography trip, there's always something that doesn't quite go according to plan. For us on the Deseret, we were not immune to this. Maintenance of way by the power plant killed our planned shot, so we wound up with a mediocre one near there. Safe to say, none of us were terribly happy about this. Now, the thing about Deseret is that it's not a long railroad, and the roads are definitely not convenient to chase it. You'd be hard pressed to actually pull off any such chase.

Somehow, we managed it. It was a close thing, but we pulled up to the crossing that, had we ignored the no trespassing signs, would lead us to the loadout with little more than a minute to spare. Conveniently, a small hill was right beside the road which gave us the necessary elevation to get what we wanted. Considering how last-minute this was, we were fairly pleased with it.

DPRs E60s are incredibly neat. They roster four active E60C-2s with three more in reserve, mostly for parts. Trains typically run with just three of the four active units. Our trains were ran with units 1, 3, and 4. DPR 1 and DPR 2 (sat back at the loadout) were the units originally built for the Deseret Western back in about 1983. Interestingly, they hold different paint jobs compared to the others, with DPR 1 getting black around both cab windows, and DPR 2 with the same but only for one cab. 3 and 4, plus the spare 3 parts units, all come from the Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, or the NdeM. NdeM electrified a rail line down in Mexico and ordered 39 E60C-2s, however the line only operated electrically for a few years, with many of the units never being run.

When they closed the electrification, those units were available. Deseret purchased five of them and put two into service - other NdeM units went to Texas Utilities, Navajo Mining, and most famously, the Black Mesa & Lake Powell. The NdeM units had to be upgraded from 25kv to 50kv to begin operation, but they've been going strong for over 25 years now. Even the original units, in operation for 40 years, are still doing quite well! It's a true delight to be able to see these in operation today still. I wonder how long these units could keep going for, outside of the coal/power plant questions we all have for the company as a whole. They seem to take care of them here, so I think the railroad will shutter long before the locomotives will give out!

At any rate, though this wasn't our first choice and we were initially rather displeased with how things were going, we were happy to walk away from it with something more than the mess back by Bonanza. We ran into an employee on the way out of here and got some helpful info for the afternoon train, which was rather handy!

I put the finishing touches on my studio today by hanging the remainder of my prints on the wall. I have not decided how I want to display my guitars just yet, but that’s just icing on the cake.

I put this red cushion in my living room "studio", and it's always JUNE who ends up sitting there. Sooooooo, I quickly turned on my lights and was even able to put this bow tie on her without her jumping down! She is a most cooperative model!

A credit to the Sante Fe that this 1966 built SD45 gas-guzzler is still on the point 28 years later at Bannock, Ca.

Put a $16 Holga HL-C lens on a $1,000 Sony a6300 cmera body and take your chances. I especially like the gritty, grungy street look.

Ex-works North British class 21 No.D6142 in the works yard at Inverurie during a railfan's visit in May 1966. Built by the North British Locomotive Co. (works No.27946) and delivered in March 1960. At this time it was a 61A Kittybrewster-allocated locomotive. Despite being put through works and receiving a new coat of Brunswick green paint, it was withdrawn from service just 18 months later, in December 1967, and disposed of by J. McWilliam, Shettleston, Glasgow, during October 1968.

23/07/83 RCAF Gimli CYGM flight AC143 Ottawa - Edmonton ran out of fuel over Red Ontario Lake. Crew used manual fuel check because of inoperative fuel gauge. 17.7lb/litre instead of 8kg/litre formula was used resulting in manual entry of 20444kg instead of 9,144kg into FMS. Captain Pearson (Blanik L-13 glider pilot) decided to land at abandoned RCAF base because of sink rate of 2500fpm was not going to get them to Winnipeg. Gimli base was used as racing track at the time. Crew extended flaps and gear manualy but nose gear did not lock in position. Aircraft landed 30kts faster than normal 150kts landing speed. Front wheel collapsed on landing and nose dragged on runway helped aircraft to slow down. Ac came to rest 800ft from threshold and car race fans helped to put out fire that developed in the gear. One person got injured during evacuation. Aircraft dubbed Gimli Glider has been repaired and returned to service!, WFU MHV 24/01/08

Just another shot of Temp from my trip to the beach :)

School starts for me on September first, and I would normally be pretty excited, if I wasn't going to end up in the same Psychology class as my older sister T___T

I put a seating area on top of the hobbit house at Freesia Holt and love the view up here!

August is so busy. I'm doing the produce thing. Tomatoes and sweet corn are being processed this week!

I still take an early morning walk to clear the noggin' before digging into the garden/produce work.

It will taste awesome come this winter!
