3/3/2010: Bauer is a BIG boy...about 14 months old and already 100 lbs. He still has some growing to do and his foster mom, who has experience with large breed dogs, guesses that he'll weigh in around 120 - 130 pounds in another year or two when he's fully grown. Although he's a big boy, he has nice manners and does not jump on doors or people. When he arrived, he was walking nicely on leash for a 12 year old girl!
Since Bauer is still a bit puppyish and gangly, it may not be a good plan to place him in a home with babies or toddlers as they could accidently get bumped, but he is sweet and gentle and would co-exist nicely with older children, especially children who would play with him and love him. Bauer is a very good natured companion dog. He loves to be with his people and looks to us for guidance. What a sweet boy!
3-1-10: Meet Bauer! Bauer is a big, beautiful, LOVEBUG! This magnificent boy, a "ham" as his foster mom calls him, just simply loves everything! Kids, other dogs, cats - loves em! His foster mom says he is a "leaner," leaning in to get some kisses, and he loves to GIVE kisses, too.
His adoring foster mom reports, "Oh, he is SUCH a GOOD BOY!" He is smart, too, and knows 'sit' and 'paw'.

Then this morning Harry Burden Of Livermore. KY. drove out and picked up his male pup. This is the last of the males. I really liked this cross and looked forward keeping the whole litter for my own use but not enough meat close by to train all them. I am considering making this cross again. And like before I will not be booking any pups from this this litter.
Each year during the months of November and December grey seals come to the beach of Donna Nook (Lincolnshire - UK) to give birth to their pups. After a week or three, when the pups are weaned, the females are ready to mate, causing bloody fights among the competing bulls.
The area is near an RAF bombing range, but the seals don’t seem to be disturbed by the noise of the planes. They are even doing better than elsewhere in the UK. Donna Nook turns out to be a safe place, and has the best statistics for pup survivals. But Unfortunately there is also a downside: some of the visitors and photographers get too close to the seals, so that the mothers panic and abandon their pups. For that reason we decided to stay in the fenced area and not to go out on the beach. In fact, later we heard from other people that they found quite a few dead pups near the shoreline …

Being early in the season, this is a recently born pup, the soft white fur is replaced by the usual darker adult fur after a few weeks. As mamals, the pups take milk from their mothers, the milk is very rich and the pups grow quickly, they have too, the mothers fast whilst giving birth and rearing the young, so after all but a few weeks the mothers return to the sea to feed and the pups have to learn how to fish and fend for themselves.
Native owned sled dog pups chewing on reindeer hide next to a fishing boat in the tundra grass. I don't think I could come up with more of an Alaskan sentence if I tried...
The best part? I didn't have to try.
A skittish little pup was all we found this morning in the park....
