This week I have been mostly learning that:
Space whilst big, and I mean mindbogglingly big, you might think it's a long way to the shops, but that's just peanuts compared to space, is also small and personal so... I now know that Riley is not a trampoline and his face doesn't need licking every time he moves.
I have also found out that the large, white box in the kitchen which my Mum calls 'the fridge' contains many wondrous things!
As do socks!
I have also learned that I am not, in fact, Tarzan and that the curtains and Riley's ears are not jungle vines.
And I have learned that my kennel name 'Couldoran Lightning Thief' as well as being cool is achievable.

It is the height of pupping season right now. Most of the pups will be born during the next week or so and then they stay with their mothers nursing for about 28 days.
It is a crucial time for the pups, if all goes well the pup will get huge and torpedo shaped while its mom will lose a lot of body fat, often looking like an empty sack when she is finished.
If the mother and pup get separated it can mean death for the pup. Seals can live to be 25+ if they make it throught the first year. The mortality rate for pups is about 30%.
So if you are boating near a pupping ledge, just go on by....try not to frighten them into the water.
If you find an abandoned pup do not do not disturb it, keep people and dogs away, call a local marine patrol or marine mammal rescue organization and keep an eye on it in hopes it mother comes back to get it.

Not really a pup but definitely a sleeping dog. I managed to capture a photo of CJ sleeping and she looked so peaceful. I love how this photo turned out.

Recently Dublin Zoo celebrated the arrival of a male Californian sea lion pup, born to its mother Seanna.
The pup weighed just 3kg. Like all Californian sea lions, he was born on land without the ability to swim, but his mother introduced him to the water on his second day of life and he has since become a confident swimmer.
