All day yesterday and today I looked out the window and saw this puddle on the construction site across the road. With no real camera handy the mobile had to do.
I hoped to get something that would look like this, but it was tricky, and this was the best I managed.
And our grandson and great-grandson. They live in phoenix so puddles were magical to them. This was our first time to meet him and we are in love. He is only 21 months old but is already calling us Big Papa and Nana. Does it get better?
Week No. 7 Puddle
He'll be waiting for everone next year in the "Leave Something Take Something" box. Assuming he made it back in the box Saturday night.
Sadly my camera refused to focus on the butterfly, but you can still see it shooting liquid from its abdomen! Male butterflies often "puddle" by soaking up sodium from damp soils. They have to take in a lot of liquid to extract what they need, so they have to squirt out the excess. The sodium is then transferred to the female during copulation to aid in the growth of their offspring.
Who doesn't love a big puddle? I mean seriously, you could hate the rain, you could hate the went weather, but I think everyone loves a puddle.
At the Smithville, Texas, Photo Festival it was pouring rain most of the day. I saw messages from people online the night before, and all morning on the day of, wondering if they should go. Of course you should go, it's a chance to get out and take photos!
When I first pulled into the town, I got there early. About an hour early, so I just casually drove around the streets to see what I could find that might interest me enough to whip out a camera.
The first thing I noticed when pulling into town was this HUGE, MASSIVE, puddle. It was probably 80' long, 6' wide, and 1' deep in parts. I couldn't get it out of my head.
So at the end of the day, as we were walking back to our cars I suggested to my friends we go play in the puddle. We got some stunt driving with my Subaru in the puddle, we got some dancing in the rain shots, there was some jumping over, and more. Indeed the puddle was great!
My friend Ashley agreed to skip across the water. Playfully, joyously, and without hesitation you could see she was a kid again. I think anytime an adult can let their inner child take over, play, and win, you'll live just a little longer.
Thanks Ashley for kicking off your shoes, and going for it, multiple times, so we could do something as simple as take a picture. It made my day.

Unedited shot of the best bike in the world, Lord Bikenheimer, blocking traffic in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
Today the FIFA World Cup starts, and to make sure that everything goes smoothly, the fabulous Lord Bikenheimer decided to position herself as a living Roadblock in the downtown Amsterdam area, hoping that by channeling the stream of people in certain directions, she'll be able to positively contribute to the well-being and safety of locals and visitors alike, who roam the streets in search of the biggest outdoor screen and the cheapest beer...
Personally I think it's rather cocky of a bike to expect to single-wheeledly warrant the safety of thens of thousands of drunk, excited people in a crazy place like Amsterdam, but since she's got to make up for the little incident she's got me in earlier this week, I figured why not let her give it her best shot, can't harm to try...and as you can tell by the happy faces of the tourists in this picture, they totally appreciate it, haha :)
Have a great start of the World Cup, may your team win!
I've also filmed the Lord blocking the road, watch the movie on my YouTube page :)
The tennis net reflected in a puddle can be seen as horizontal, like the puddle or as vertical, like the tennis net in reality. I add this image to the theme truth versus illusion (or real versus virtual), which is a sub theme of opposites since vertical and horizontal are opposites. It also belongs to the subject of reflections, but reflections are always an illusion that relates to reality.

I observed folks jumping over this giant puddle in Union Square. It was interesting to see each person's reaction on how to keep their feet dry.
Even with rainboots on, this person decided to jump.
I entered "Among the Stars" and "Duality", in the PUDDLE 2016 Photo and Art Contest.
Duality won 3rd place.
Thrid place prize is this cute dress worn by Eos, donated by Little Miss Boutique, dncnllama on Etsy.
