Upside down or is it?

Another from the Smokies, but jazzed up a little for HSS!

A couple of weeks ago I set myself the challenge to go out for a walk in the rain with my camera and my 35mm prime lens only. Here is one of the results I got. Check out my blog (see link below) for more images from that walk.

Enjoy!

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint.

(Psalm 22:14)

This is the first year I've seen chipmunks eating dandelions. Finally, we can agree on this! Have as many as you want! It has been cold and dandelions are really the only thing that has emerged. I'm finding these little puddles of dandelion petals all over the terrace. It's like they brought me flowers and it's a peace gesture in exchange for all the apples they are going to eat in a few months.

Various butterflies mud-puddling in the Kaeng Krachan National Park, Thailand. In flight is a common bluebottle.

Wikipedia: Graphium sarpedon, the common bluebottle or blue triangle in Australia, is a species of swallowtail butterfly that is found in South and Southeast Asia, as well as eastern Australia. There are approximately sixteen subspecies with differing geographical distributions.

Mud-puddling, or simply puddling, is a behavior most conspicuous in butterflies, but occurs in other animals as well, mainly insects; they seek out nutrients in certain moist substances such as rotting plant matter, mud and carrion and they suck up the fluid.

Sometimes all you need is a bit of water and dirt. This little guy didn't seem interested in the historic buildings or stories at Westfield Heritage Village. He had a mud puddle all to himself.
