After being properly instructed to make matcha in Japan (thank you, Obubu Tea Farm!), these are my first attempts to make it at home. I brought back some nice matcha, and the chawans that have been patiently tolerating various teas and even non-tea foods are proving very effective & attractive for their intended use.
The mix of dried and fresh blossoms on these branches, from three species of buckwheat still in bloom, is very typical of fall in the desert.
I know I did! They love the sun and now I know they come in 4 different colors (can you name all 4 colors?). We also got this fantastic, small, colorful guide book for free at the Butchart Gardens so I can properly ID my flowers!

Exeter Cathedral, properly known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter in Exeter, is an Anglican cathedral, and the seat of the Bishop of Exeter, in the city of Exeter, Devon, in South West England. The present building was complete by about 1400, and has several notable features, including an early set of misericords, an astronomical clock and the longest uninterrupted vaulted ceiling in England.
The founding of the cathedral at Exeter, dedicated to Saint Peter, dates from 1050, when the seat of the bishop of Devon and Cornwall was transferred from Crediton because of a fear of sea-raids. A Saxon minster already existing within the town (and dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Peter) was used by Leofric as his seat, but services were often held out of doors, close to the site of the present cathedral building.
In 1107 William Warelwast was appointed to the see, and this was the catalyst for the building of a new cathedral in the Norman style. Following the appointment of Walter Bronescombe as bishop in 1258, the building was already recognised as outmoded, and it was rebuilt in the Decorated Gothic style, following the example of Salisbury. However, much of the Norman building was kept, including the two massive square towers and part of the walls. It was constructed entirely of local stone, including Purbeck Marble. The new cathedral was complete by about 1400, apart from the addition of the chapter house and chantry chapels.
During the Second World War, Exeter was one of the targets of a German air offensive against British cities of cultural and historical importance, which became known as the "Baedeker Blitz". On 4 May 1942 an early-morning air raid took place over Exeter. The cathedral sustained a direct hit by a large high-explosive bomb on the chapel of St James, completely demolishing it. The muniment room above, three bays of the aisle and two flying buttresses were also destroyed in the blast. The medieval wooden screen opposite the chapel was smashed into many pieces by the blast, but it has been reconstructed and restored. Many of the cathedral's most important artefacts, such as the ancient glass (including the great east window), the misericords, the bishop's throne, the Exeter Book, the ancient charters (of King Athelstan and Edward the Confessor) and other precious documents from the library had been removed in anticipation of such an attack. The precious effigy of Walter Branscombe had been protected by sand bags. Subsequent repairs and the clearance of the area around the western end of the building uncovered portions of earlier structures, including remains of the Roman city and of the original Norman cathedral. I never seem to wake properly until it's light and that's late at this time of year. Strange dreams which I can't remember except that for the last few days they have been frequented by a crocodile. When I did waken the sun was shining. The first time in nearly ten days. Got organised and took everything to the Post Office. Aghast at the cost of postage but pleased that it's all dealt with.
Afterwards I went to buy petrol. Must ask Andy to check my tyre pressures. Then I went off to find a photo. Ended up at the Hill of Tarvit where there are lots of nice trees so I was happy.
Back in time to tidy then clean and disinfect the kitchen and have a read before Julie came to cut my hair. We were chatting for ages. She's usually pretty social at Christmas but not this year. It's just going to be her and Harry. And she's not offering appointments before the middle of January for those who are having visitors over Christmas. She's making sure that she and her other customers don't get infected. She impresses me by how organised and thoughtful she is.
Once she left I did nothing much. So good to have my hair cut. It had grown pretty long and it's nice to feel tidy again.

How many birds can take you across the ocean to spend just a few minutes with two boys named Sue and Nora? That is a pilgrimage. But nothing compared to the saints who keep this charismatic fat parrot alive. I can't show you a photo. That is verboten (unless you are the likes of Bill Oddie or Stephen Fry, or one who has the privilege of working on one of their island refuges) but Invercargill has a street named for them. The boys now have their own names, Matangi (who was Nora, meaning breeze, is part of the wind line and was sat on and injured by Taeatanga as a nestling on Whenua Hou), and his exhibit mate in the former brothel behind the main street of Invercargill has become Ruggedy, after the mountains. Usually I'm properly riled up within two minutes of landing on Facebook.
Between the the chronic 'Like'rs, Obama haters, gun lovers, identical picture posters, "I MIIIISSSS YOUR SMILING FACE!!!!!!" commenters, game players, awkward hashtags users, and young 20-something wisdom preachers, there's already far too much working against the platform that even a zillion adorable baby animals could make it enjoyable for me.
And this is before factoring in all all the text-speak, typos, incorrect word usage, and poor grammar.
I mean really, people, there IS a difference between their, they're, and there.
Despite the fact that Facebook makes me crazy, I do check it regularly. I have a few friends and family members that use it exclusively and FB is how I keep up with what's going on with them. There are also a few brands, communities, and SME profiles that are better suited to the stickiness of Facebook than wash-through aspect of Twitter. Still… Ugh!
I'll be the first to admit I'm far from perfect when it comes language, but hey, I try. I frequently consult dictionary.com for definition confirmation and correct spelling and I reread these posts multiple times before unleashing them into cyberspace.
Basically, I don't want to come across as an idiot. Anywhere.
If you ask the 671 people I currently follow on Twitter, they'd probably all say they don't want to seem like an idiot either. That's right, EVERY. SINGLE. ACCOUNT I follow appears to care about those 140 characters - or less - every time they hit Send on a tweet.
I don't follow the @ tweeter above but they are a Facebook friend and their content there makes me want to scream. The whining and bragging and bashing and lecturing and judging and complete lack of awareness about how pathetic they appear. Their posts look as though a 13-year-old middle school dropout without autocorrect texted them, so of course they'd speak up about grammar not mattering on Twitter.
If you ask those 671 folks in my feed about it, they'd disagree. Trust me, it doesn't have to be perfect but it matters.

Tools needed to do it yourself =
(1) 1/2" Drill Bit - Titanium preferred.
(1) Drill -(duh)
(1) Pair of Needlenose Pliers
(1) Roll Of Duct Tape
(1) Bottle of Gorilla Glue
Now, the case being, the multi-function switch is just flopping around in the steering column. All functions still work, but it will cause you to fail inspection. (My inspection is due this month) - Cause = Wrist pin has broken loose, causing the switch assembly to not be properly secured.
So, what I did first, is drill a hole in the Steering column right above the area I am working. Apply LIGHT pressure, because the drill bit can easily drill through the housing, then hit the switch, then you just ****ed yourself over.
Once the column has been opened up with the drill bit, gently ease the needlenose pliers in there, and grab the wrist pin, and pull it out.
Then, adjust the assembly so it lines up (best you can) with the housing. insert the needlenose pliers with the wristpin into the top hole, and push it down, wiggling the assembly until everything slides into place.
Good as new, but not in my case..
The top hole had broken off, so, only half of my wrist pin would be in place. So, I used some Gorilla glue to properly secure it, and it is drying now. Everything appears to be working out fine.
* Well, OK, not properly, but..it'll pass inspection.
