Here, a familiar figure attentively but placidly regards autumn activities without so much as raising a paw.
“No one term properly or adequately describes this iris as it is a subtle blending of rich and intense deep chocolate and red brown with a hint of sultry, still deeper chocolate. Blooms are flaring; color is sunfast, and substance heavy. A rich beauty.” -Schreiner
‘Dutch Chocolate’ is a Tall Bearded Iris that typically grows to 35” tall. Flowers bloom May-June. Hybridized by Schreiner. Registered in 1970. Standards and falls are shades of warm red chocolate with red chocolate beards.

The Athabasca Glacier is one of the six principal 'toes' of the Columbia Icefield, located in the Canadian Rockies. The glacier currently loses depth at a rate of about 5 metres (16 ft) per year and has receded more than 1.5 km (0.93 mi) and lost over half of its volume in the past 125 years. Easily accessible, it is the most visited glacier in North America. The leading edge of the glacier is within easy walking distance; however, travel onto the glacier is not recommended unless properly equipped. Hidden crevasses have led to the deaths of unprepared tourists.
Note: This was taken less than a month (5/20) ago. At the time, there were still 70" of snow around. No hiking allowed. So happy we got to see it, one of my dreams did come true. :-))
Standing lakeside at Crater Lake is like nothing else—the deepest water in the country, filling a sleeping, dormant volcano, can only be described as a blue enigma. To visit Crater Lake is to step into the fiery moments of Earth's creation.
The deepest lake in the United States and the seventh deepest lake in the world is at Crater Lake National Park in Southern Oregon at the Cascade Mountains.
The lake (1,943 feet deep) lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, and was created when the 12,000 foot high Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago following a large eruption. Because the lake is filled almost entirely by snowfall, it is one of the clearest lakes in the world.
Crater Lake National Park is comprised of 183,224 acres of mountains, peaks, evergreen forests, and lake. The ranging elevations throughout the park provide diverse habitats for an array of wildlife and make for an outstanding outdoor laboratory and classroom. Crater Lake must be seen to be appreciated properly. Photographs simply cannot depict the majesty of the lake in its setting, the depth of the blue.
One captured from hills of Snowdonia yesterday, not often the camera comes out of it's bag this time of the year when capturing this beautiful landscape and I was just out enjoying the walk/fell run, when the clouds parted and Mother nature turned up, I have lost over a stone in weight so far this summer so onwards and upwards!!......Always say photography doesn’t start properly until the 21st September and then runs to 21st March!....seasons are changing indeed.

Notre Dame in Baueux is a beautiful medieval cathedral built in both Romanesque and Gothic style (depending on what part of the church you're looking at). But this tower is 19th century. Well, the lower part of it is properly medieval, but that part got renovated and a second level added in 1866 and all given that more-medieval-than-the-Middle-Ages look typical of the Neo-Gothic style. Still, it's pretty to look at.
A Rockhopper penguin porpoising his way to shore - - it was amazing watching a whole colony come swimming back to shore after an afternoon of fishing - - out on the water the "colony" of penguins is properly called a "raft" of penguins - - and once on shore - - they are a "waddle" of penguins - - "colony" is a more generic term I guess.
I was able to get an individual in the frame by using a heavy crop in this case.

Can you imagine 1000 years ago walking into this sacred place to commune with your ancestors and spirits and you step around the corner to see what looks like a figure of living rock patiently waiting for you ask it questions if you were brave enough to ask.
This shot was two steps forward from the shot yesterday highlighting the fact that composition is something that should be fluid and experimented with, two steps in any direction can make all the difference in the world.
Upper Antelope Canyon is a spot not to be missed and I am thankful I got a chance to photograph it properly before the last of the photo tours concluded.
Another lesson learned is always double check your equipment, after this shot my lens switch got knocked to manual focus by a tourist as we squeezed by to set up for next shots and what should have been 100 usable shots was greatly diminished.
Normally I am more observant but I had bagged and taped up my camera completely in plastic to keep fine dust out and was under constant pressure to set up and get out of tour groups way so my bad but at least I got a few keepers.

Ascocenda, abbreviated as Ascda in the horticultural trade, was a man-made hybrid orchid genus resulting from a cross between the former genus Ascocentrum and Vanda (Asctm × V). Ascocentrum is now synonymous with Vanda, so the name is obsolete. Hybrids in the nothogenus × Ascocenda are now properly termed Vanda. × Ascocenda hybrids are common in cultivation with numerous cultivars and often combine the large flower size of the Vanda parents with the color and compactness of the Ascocentrum parents. They are evergreen compact epiphytes with upright, narrow, oviform leaves. The inflorescence is an axillary cluster with 6 to 8 open flowers. They bloom twice or sometimes three times a year with long lasting flowers. The flowers are brightly colored, often overlaid with contrasting colors. 31455

When properly channelled, it can be a source of life, twisted though it may be. This is why I call myself the Plague Doctor. I take the world's Corruption, toxic to your kind, and I filter, cleanse, and consume it. In this way, everyone wins.

The old town of Matillas,
Speaking properly we should talk about Matillas (the old one) and La Estación (the new one). Let's start with the original: located in the valley of Henares, next to the Roman road to Zaragoza, it was founded and baptized in the repopulation of the XII-XIII centuries, giving it such name for the existing vegetation. It was integrated into the Common Lands of Atienza until the fourteenth century, when it passed to the Lord of Jadraque. Its people lived on cereal (wheat, barley and rye) and sheep.
In this term, due to its location, important battles were fought in the War of Succession (18th century), Carlistas (XIX) and Civil War (In) (1936-39) that left their trail. When the quarries were launched in 1904, the industry and the railway arrived that caused the ruin of the old town and the birth of a new one, next to the factory and station (La Estación). (Source: Blog of La Vereda de Puebla )

Yesterday, Yashka never let the groomer cut his muzzle properly. The paws were also only half cut. He bit her and the groomer failed to finish the job. Nevertheless, we paid her the full cost, and now we are trimming Yashka at home - little by little, each time encouraging him with all sorts of treats.
Thank you all for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!
I was so pleased to see that the puffins were still at their nesting site as they would be leaving soon to go out to sea for the winter. We met people just a few days after we were there and they didn't see any puffins. Timing is everything! I had an absolutely amazing evening with them when they flew much closer. Actually, they flew in just as we were arriving so 5 more minutes and I could have set up properly. After they started wandering around, no one moved so they would not be disturbed. This is one of the wonderful close-up views that I got. Taken at Elliston, Newfoundland.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

More properly known as Coypu (Myocastor coypus), a destructive invasive in Texas, previously over-running the Riverstone Wetlands in Sugar Land. Then a alligator came into the wetlands, maybe from the nearby Steep Bank Creek, and the nutria were gone. Now the alligator's gone, possibly removed from these family-friendly wetlands, and the nutria are back. Nutria eat tree roots and grass stems as seen here. BTW, the red incisors are typical of rodents.
A low-cost way to hold back sand is with tires. They are very effective when properly secured and backfilled with gravel. Behind me is an Earthen Road used decades ago. The tires here have escaped from the sand and found their way into the water.

Assumption Cathedral on the right and Annunciation Cathedral on the left....The Assumption Cathedral is now the main temple of the Moscow Kremlin, and in the XV-XIX centuries it was the main Orthodox church of the Russian state. All Russian tsars were crowned here. Weddings and baptisms took place here. They prayed here before the military campaign. Metropolitans and patriarchs were elected here and buried here.....The Annunciation Cathedral ("the Cathedral Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos that the Great Sovereign has above" or "on the porch") is an Orthodox church in Moscow, located on the Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin. Consecrated in honor of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos, it was the first house church of the Moscow grand dukes and tsars of the XVI century and the first tsar Mikhail Fedorovich before the construction of the Verkhospassky Cathedral......Golden domes shine,
Crowning temples exalted faces,
And years and centuries are reflected in them,
The stories are many-sided.
Golden domes are burning,
Casting off the sun 's glare,
Displaying as if in mirrors,
The harsh fate of a great country.
The difficult history of the Slavs,
Their knights on the battlefield scarlet tunics,
That they fought to the death keeping the motherland,
Defending Russia from the encroachments of the wild steppe.
From the hordes of foreign basurman,
With the sword of those who came to the boundless expanses,
And other quirky tyrants,
Creating ruin and strife.
But Russia did not disappear and did not dissolve
Within the infinite universe,
And preserved the memory for centuries
About the exploits of the great and conquests.
And the golden domes did not go out,
The exalted faces of the temples have not been erased,
And reflected in them as if in mirrors
The harsh history of a great country.
And there is no need to praise an already great country,
She will declare herself properly,
But no one should forget history,
And you don't need to take swords out of their scabbards either.
