This shot looks better on black. Flickr also seems to have removed some of the sepia from the photo. Go figure!
My goal for this picture was to do a profile shot - like Karsh was known for. I fought with trying to reduce the light on the face to just a mere line. I think I need barn doors for this.
To camera left is an Elinchrom BXRi 500 with a 10° grid to help focus the light. I have also put up a couple of GOBO's to block the light from hitting the background and to help reduce the light further. I have a black reflector (or is that absorber?) to camera right and a black background behind the subject.
For something that was going to be a "quick" shot it took way longer than I had planned for.
It's now complete..............well as far as I am concerned. It still looks a bit sterile in places, but I think I will call it a day. Question to myself, do I attempt to recreate the same place in the late 70s ?..........answer, probably not.
The Janacek Theater is a theater building in Rooseveltova Street in Brno, adjacent to the Koliště Park and the Moravske Square. It was built in the first half of the 1960s according to the design of the architect Jan Víšek. It is a part of the National Theater Brno. The opera and ballet performances are programmed, due to the long absence of its own large hall, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra also hosts the Moravian Autumn Festival
Theater building
The Janacek Theater building, which is located in Rooseveltova street in Brno and is surrounded by the Koliště Park, was built between 1961 and 1965. The first designs arose already in 1907 and 1910 and placed the theater in place of a provisionally purchased building (which was no longer sufficient) at the corner Žerotín's Square and Veveří Street or the Lužánky Park.
Building Proposals
Between 1910 and 1958, seven architectural design contests took place in the building of the theater, among the designers were Bohuslav Fuchs, Josef Gočár, Vlastislav Hofman, Josef Chochola, Pavel Janak, Jan Kotera, Emil Kralik, Otakar Novotny, Oldrich Stary and Jan Visek.
Josef Mařík won the first competition, the second was Alois Dryak and the third was Theodor Macharacek. The controversy between the parties was culminated in another 1913 competition, which was only announced for the 1910 competitor. Only twenty proposals were sent, the first prize was not awarded. Due to the First World War, construction did not start, the next round did not take place until 1936, the first prize was not awarded again. During this competition, Bohuslav Fuchs published his non-competition proposal as well, a futuristic viewing work. In 1940, the Cooperative called for five selected projects, winning a narrower competition by Jan Víšek. Later, in 1958, Jan Víšek was the winner of the project.

The Janacek Theater building in 2011
The building includes a stage with a turntable, adjoining the rear and two side stages. In the building there is an auditorium for 1,383 spectators, which is conceived as a stepped amphitheater with a box wreath. In the first basement under the vestibule there are restaurants, café and club of artists.
The supporting structure consists of a reinforced concrete monolithic skeleton with a filler wall, the auditorium and the stage are covered with steel trusses. Exterior materials such as stone, wood, steel, glass and aluminum are used on exterior surfaces. Lining and paving are made of granite, black syenite and limestone. The wooden panels are made of elm and walnut.
In 2007, Brno Councilor Jan Holík announced that Janáček Theater is waiting for reconstruction. In the same year the reconstruction began. It covered the reclamation of the surroundings of the theater, including the construction of an underground car park, the repair of an unsatisfactory auditorium and other changes proposed by the architect Jaroslav Cerny. The Brno budget for reconstruction allocated 111 million crowns (415.564,2700 Euro/464.767,0500 Dollar).
Now that the inside of the house is 95% done, we've been working on the outside. We did most of the hardscaping and rock last summer but we've done a lot of planting, mulching and cosmetic stuff this summer.

Haven't had much time to take pictures, quickly took this one last night. Old milk cans and an old tea pot, I love old things.
Some days, I'm really not to keen on the way things operate round about these parts. Especially on the other side of the freeway. It's as timeless a story as any. Wait until the last minute to drop everything one us.

Ce travail a été réalisé en étroite relation avec l’architecte dès la conception du collège. Plutôt que de poser un banal carrelage, Tetsuo Harada a souhaité apporter à l’espace plus de douceur et d’humanité. Les piliers, éléments de construction, sont intégrés à l’œuvre d’art. Le jeu des couleurs oriente et agrémente le parcours des élèves.

The Eden Project is a visitor attraction in the United Kingdom, including the world's largest greenhouse.
Inside the artificial biomes are plants that are collected from all around the world. The project is located in a reclaimed Kaolinite pit, located 2 kilometers (1.25 mi) from the town of St Blazey and 5 kilometres (3 mi) from the larger town of St Austell, Cornwall.
The complex is dominated by two enclosures consisting of adjoining domes that house plant species from around the world. Each enclosure emulates a natural biome. The domes consist of hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal, inflated, plastic cells supported by steel frames. The first dome emulates a tropical environment, and the second a Mediterranean environment.
The project was conceived by Tim Smit and designed by architect Nicholas Grimshaw and engineering firm Anthony Hunt and Associates (now part of Sinclair Knight Merz). Davis Langdon carried out the project management, Sir Robert McAlpine and Alfred McAlpine did the construction and MERO designed and built the biomes. Land Use Consultants led the masterplan and landscape design. The project took 2½ years to construct and opened to the public on 17 March 2001.

This day was great! You know those days when you wake up knowing your going to have a great day? I had one of those, I got up early in the morning and decided to walk to work today. I was so trigger happy with my camera, taking photos left and right. I got so many photos and so many that I wanted to put up today! So going through them, editing was so hard. I got down to about ten photos then knocked that down to about four then final choose this image.
So how did this photo come into being? Well this photo was taken late at night, I was in a great mood so I stayed around town till the sun went down. As I was walking around High street in Auckland I was passing a food stall. I noticed two people ordering food from it. I loved how the stall light up the subjects ordering food, while there surroundings are darkened but the night, the only thing that light up the street was artificial light.

Today was such a busy day, and the evening was worse. Meh.
Just a grab shot really. When I got home I did a quick trot to the Chemists to see if my prescription was ready.

Went to the zoo today. there is nothing like taking pictures of people in a aquarium. I think this would be one of the best places to take photos. That’s because people let their guards down, and everyone around them are taking pictures.
