VISUAL LIBRARIES - Leave your Mark.

A collaborative, visual project which encourages you to sign out a Visual Library Book and ‘Leave Your Mark’.

A Visual Library Book is whatever you want it to be, a sketchbook, a journal, a diary, a notepad.

You can ‘Leave Your Mark’ in whatever way you want, ranging from drawing, writing, sewing, adding photographs, markings, printing and sticking. How you make your marks is entirely up to you. All we ask is that you have fun with the different themes. Just borrow it on your library card with other books and materials. If you are not already a member, just ask the staff to help you.

45 Visual Library Books have been placed in Portsmouth Central Library and each has its own theme ranging from; Portsmouth, My City, When I Open My Eyes, Whilst I Was Waiting, Love, What’s in My Pocket and Memories. The intention is for you to feel free to explore the Visual Library Books and choose a theme that you like.

In Association with: Rhodia, Seawhite, Portsmouth City Council, University of Portsmouth, COPIC Pens

As I wind down my project and move on to other creative endeavors, I came up with this apparation with the scary looking alien on top. My friend says he sees demons in all my smoke pictures.

Its almost like a big eye to me.

Maybe one or two more tops, and I'll be retiring the smoke project and on to other creative endeavors.

On my way from the bus stop to the venue for tonight's Fringe Festival show I paused at Te Aro Park and snapped this pigeon. Seconds before he had been dipping a foot into the water and hurriedly taking it back out again, just like a kid on the beach when the sea is cold but they want to paddle anyway.

Supported by Reclamation funding, the Sailor Bar Project is an ambitious, concentrated endeavor taking place on a river that flows through suburban Sacramento County and which attracts multitudes of hikers, cyclists and rafters. The month-long project is implemented via the Water Forum, a consortium of public agencies, business groups and non-governmental organizations.

Feb 27: Awaiting the Storm…

Took a drive down to Tarague this evening. With the possible formation of a cyclone in our midst, we're all preparing for a major storm to hit us by Sunday/Monday time frame. But the beauty before the storm is always SO breathtaking.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a non-fiction book where Rebecca Skloot recounts what she learned about an African American woman named Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks had cervical cancer, and her cells became the first immortal cell line (her cells are still found in laboratories all over the world today). Her cell line is known as "HeLa", and her cells helped people make numerous medical & scientific discoveries.

For my first concept, I made the H in "Henrietta" out of scientific test tubes on a rack. For the title, I made "HeLa" stand out in Henrietta's name by making those letters capitalized.

For my second concept, I drew the title a little differently but still wanted the "HeLa" to stand out (made them different colors). For the H in the middle, I drew cells on the left of the H (because the story is largely focused on Henrietta's cells), and a red nail polish bottle on the right (because there is a significant part in the story where Henrietta is said to have always worn red nail polish). Then, I drew DNA going through the H.

Project 365 days

I made this for my friend Helen for Christmas. It's based on one my mum made for me, and she adapted the design from a tramping first aid kit of my dad's.

A million housewives every day, pick up a tin of beans and say

My closet after some cleaning. I really love my school bus bag and it's huge too which is nice. In the corner on top of my funky blue slippers is a pile of my dance clothes, leotards, tights, shoes, etc.

The paint color in the office is toasted cashew. Ignore the messy floor. I haven't cleaned it up yet.

“When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” ~Alexander Graham Bell~

Just came across this quote - I like it.

I can’t really think of anything to say today. Five more days and I’m finished with the self-portraits, that’ll be kind of weird but it will be good to focus on something else too. Though I’m sure I’ll post a selfie every now and then, especially with winter coming. I love shots in the snow; the landscape can change so dramatically with a good dump of snow.

Enjoy your weekend!

Couple things about me:

1. I love the wind, especially in fall when the leaves are falling off the trees and are blown all around.

2. My favourite type of chips are regular and preferably Lays. Some onion dip on the side is great too.

this is a creepy doll on our "welcome" sign from halloween...my mum likes it so much she won't take it down...and it creeps me out so much i won't clean it...

With one exception all the texts in this project come from my own work
