UNICEF Australia "Almost 15 years ago the global community resolved to build a more just and prosperous world by committing to the Millennium Development Goals: Five ways the world has achieved #progress for #children since 1990: 1) 46 million fewer children are missing out on their right to an #education. 2) The global rate of stunting has been reduced by 41%. 3) 2.6 billion more people have access to improved drinking water. 4) Half as many children are dying before their fifth birthday. 5) 900 million fewer people are living in absolute #poverty. Together we've taken immense strides forward but we must ensure that future progress includes #EVERYchild – that opportunity reaches even the world’s most disadvantaged and marginalised children." #UNICEF #MDGs #SDGs #ChildRights #HappyAndFreeKids #kids #family #smile #happiness #water #Australia
Volcano book, 32 inches high. The center part is an accodion fold book, there are two "wings" on the sides that have the palm trees and other landscapey bits. It folds down to 18 inches wide. It's made of Davey board. I cut it with a jeweler's saw, and hinged it with cloth hinges. At this stage it's painted with black gesso. I need to collage on it now. I'm blogging about the process of making this group of books here.
Near my home, the new McGill University hospital is being built. I managed quietly to approach the open gate without the security guard seeing me, installed my tripod and quickly took three shots.
This is being built on our block. We still can't work out how the hell they a) keep lifting the crane up, and b) how they get it down again.

Sumatra isn't the tourist magnet it once was, twenty years ago. But we loved travelling on this vast and green Indonesian island. So much to see, such beautiful nature and so many friendly people.
We had our share of bad roads, clouds and rain too, but hey: it was the wet season.

Here we go again, embarking on another year long journey!...
not much progress yet, as I have been dragging my feet all week just thinking about making another ring... thinking about quitting before I even begin, having a hard time committing, but all the time knowing how wonderful the experience was, so I am going back into the red-room right now to finish what I have started, to commit for at least today! I will hopefully be done tonight :)

progress on the studio--swept + de-cluttered desk. in case you don't remember, it looked like this a few days ago.
Logically I should have put the first one on the left but I didn't realise until I'd got them lined up nicely. suppose I could have flipped it. Never mind.
The three pics are all obviously the same doll but as you can see there is insane variation in the colour the resin shows up in the photo. The sanded area doesn't look anywhere near as bad irl, in artificial light, anyway.
Aesthetically I think I do like no.2 best. Should I have stopped there? Maybe. But I regret nothing.
I'm actually trying my hand at crazy mom quilts 'flea market fancy' quilt. These blocks will have white sashing in between them but even together they would look lovely!
