We are mounting the roll bar using the uprights and crossmember. The truss will soon be glued to it.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is making significant progress on the project to upgrade Highway 97 to four lanes between Winfield and Oyama in the District Of Lake Country, B.C.

This new alignment will remove highway traffic from the last two lane section of Highway 97 between Westbank and Vernon. The new 9 km alignment will be west of the existing highway above Wood Lake.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of what the county and state have done to our landscape this year. On the left is a shot of the roadside at the curve in front of our home taken last fall. On the right, the same view taken about three weeks ago.

The county of Allamakee and the State of Iowa (in their infinite wisdom) deemed it necessary to "improve" the road we live on. They bulldozed a full 25 feet off the end of that beautiful old slope and left us with a highly erodible, bare scar on what used to be that hillside. It is like this along the entire 8 miles of what used to be one of the most beautiful roads in the area. They told us it was necessary to "make the road straighter and safer". What they didn't tell us was how they planned to rape the entire area.

We used to have more than 30 species of wildflowers that bloomed all season long along this road. Now, after they have "improved" things, we have only three types of grasses and one flowering plant (Birdsfoot Trefoil), and it's not even a native! With the loss of native habitat, we also lost Orioles, Thrushes, Scarlet Tanagers, Goldfinches and any number of songbirds.

They will eventually pave this gash in the landscape allowing people to drive faster and more recklessly year-round. With that, we will likely see an increase in accidents. With more traffic, we will probably see more litter. And we will likely lose many more "barn cats" due to careless driving.

But then, what do I know? I am not an overpaid engineer sitting on my soft butt in an office somewhere approving projects based only on their paperwork. I just live here.

If this is "progress", they can have it.

"During the combat Apollyon's roar was like a dragon's, and from his mouth issued smoke and flame. But as he was about to draw what he thought would be the last blow necessary, Christian nimbly gave him a deadly thrust which made him fall back."

Please leave a comment I do appreciate them and lets me know what people think. I have so many photos and almost no comments. It also lets me know what pictures are best.

The Nameplate on Progress at The Tanfield Railway

Captured this image of our Vintage Alphabet Baby Quilt on Melody's design wall. All quilt projects go through various stages. Quilters refer to this as WIP - Work in Progress. At this stage Melody has pieced all the strips of the Keyboard border and has covered the middle of the work with tracing paper and created a quilting template for Vintage Alphabet panel - the first quilting stage for this Baby quilt. In this photo, Melody has even interviewed the binding - using fortune cookie print fabric that will also be the backing. Over the years, Melody has found design walls preferable to viewing quilting WIPs on top of a bed.

This is the second WIP photo for this project; the first having been posted some while ago and appears several slides past this one and also in my quilting album or set.

The district's new 7/8 building continues to progress. On May 23, members of the board and administrative team toured the new space. We look forward to seeing students walking these halls in August!

basic claw finger shape...I was deciding if they would actually pivot or not. They get to be solid walled, though, since they are most likely to get bumped around
