A veces falta alguien y le echamos de menos aunque en la vida diaria ni siquiera nos demos cuenta. De vez en cuando honramos su memoria tal y como mejor nos parece. Gracias, Sol, por permitirme participar de tu particular homenaje a alguien que sin duda es una de las personas más importantes de tu vida.

If you look at the rocks on the far side of this stream you can see the traces of sedimentary activity that is probably a billion years or older. These are some of the oldest rocks in North America, bearing all kinds of fossilized secrets, like remains of the first bacteria to inhabit our planet.
All of this deep geological age is amazing I think, in juxtaposition with a rushing stream whose waters fly past here one moment and gone the next.

Neath Abbey (Welsh: Abaty Nedd) was a Cistercian monastery, located near the present-day town of Neath in South Wales, UK. It was once the largest abbey in Wales. Substantial ruins can still be seen, and are in the care of Cadw. Tudor historian John Leland called Neath Abbey "the fairest abbey of all Wales."
Neath Abbey is also the name of an area of Neath near to the abbey ruins.
Neath Abbey was established in 1129 AD when Richard I de Grenville (d.post 1142), one of the Twelve Knights of Glamorgan, gave 8,000 acres (3,200 ha) of his estate in Glamorgan, Wales, to Savigniac monks from western Normandy. The first monks arrived in 1130. Following the assumption of the Savigniac order into the Cistercian order in 1147, Neath Abbey also became a Cistercian house. The abbey was ravaged by the Welsh uprisings of the 13th century. During the Dissolution of the Monasteries by King Henry VIII of England the last abbot, Lleision ap Thomas, managed to buy time through payment of a large fine in 1536, but the abbey was dissolved in 1539.
At this time, the abbey was turned into a large estate, initially granted to Richard Williams, although by 1600 it was owned by Sir John Herbert, and had a substantial Tudor mansion occupying a part of the cloisters. The mansion itself was only habitable for 100 years or so, before being abandoned as the site became a scene of industry.

Kathy likes globes, and I wanted a unique gift-delivery mechanism, so I printed/cut/folded/glued a rhombicuboctahedron from here:

I left the top square unglued so it would open up to reveal the gift (earrings).
An attempt at color printing. This came out too greenish, but by the time I printed it, I was already wanting to move on to another negative. Picture shot with the Anscoflex II using respooled Fuji NPH400. Printed on Kodak Portra III color paper.
Presented by the New York City Department of Transportation’s Art Program and the Bronx River Art Center, “Aqua Hung,” a large sculpture depicting a rocky formation and cascading water, was inspired by the East 182nd Street Dam on the Bronx River. Artist Xavier Figueroa collaborated with Emolior Academy scholars from the Bronx River Art Center’s afterschool program to create representations of animals including a North American Beaver, American Eel, Snowy White Egret and the migratory Alewife Herring. Ultimately, this sculpture pays tribute to the new fish passageway being constructed at the dam and the wildlife that will hopefully return to the area after a long hiatus.

El Peronismo de la Ciudad, inauguró anoche “El Bar del PJ” que funciona en la planta baja de la sede, en San José 181.
En la inauguración estuvieron presentes Víctor Santa María, presidente del PJ porteño, la Vicepresidenta segunda Lorena Pokoik, Claudio Pandolfi, vicepresidente tercero, Javier Andrade, Secretario General del partido, Mariano Recalde, presidente del Congreso Metropolitano del PJ, los representantes de la JP porteña Dante Sironi y Facundo Giampaolo, secretarios comunales, militantes. Y también asistieron los diputados nacional Roberto Feletti y el diputado de la provincia y secretario de la Juventud Peronista de Buenos Aires, José Ottavis.
Víctor Santa María señaló que “cuando asumimos dijimos que queríamos poner el partido en movimiento y lo estamos haciendo; este es un espacio de encuentro, de diálogo, para compartir expresiones artísticas, abierto a toda la comunidad”.
Por su parte,Recalde, manifestó: “Estamos muy contentos por esta inauguración que está pensada para seguir abriendo el partido a los afiliados y para abrir ámbitos y lugares de discusión, participación y militancia”.
El bar del PJ cuenta con espacio de exposiciones de pintura, dibujo y fotografía, pantallas para proyecciones audiovisuales y escenario para futuros eventos culturales, como lecturas de poesía, presentaciones de libros, stand up, música en vivo y reuniones.
Está ambientado con imágenes e íconos peronistas, desde los murales en las paredes hasta los nombres de los platos que remiten a la liturgia Justicialista. Los comensales pueden elegir tomarse un café en la mesa de la Lealtad, comer una picada en los sillones de Perón y Evita o consultar uno de los ejemplares de “La Doctrina Peronista”, entre otros títulos que se encuentran en la Biblioteca.
La idea es crear un espacio más de encuentro y debate con un agregado cultural e histórico para que cada comensal tenga la experiencia de conocer un poco más sobre el peronismo en general y las actividades del partido en la ciudad.

Union Pacific freight rolls past the foundations of the old Soldier Summit Ghost Town.
The town was incorporated in 1921 and it's growth was primarily due to employees working in the DRG&W locomotive and machine shops when they moved from Helper, Utah. At 7,477 ft (2,279 m) Soldier Summit is the fifth highest railroad summit on the main transcontinental railroad line. The town was disincorporated in 1984.
