Apolgoies for the delay in posting this one but i'm reflecting quite a bit at the moment. 12 months ago i had a bit of a bump and joined HPAD. Now i have Eleanor who's a little swedish babe in this photo. A lot can happen in a year.
There will be some more reflective photos over the next couple of weeks on the run up to Eleanor's birthday. I'm glad i found the mosaic maker.

Miltinus maculipennis Wasp mimic flies
Please humour me in this posting. These flies are just majestic.
We were on the hunt to photograph these, and I noticed one flying along touching the tops of the grasses (restionaceae). They fly in a lazy straight manner and not in any hurry until you disturb them and they disappear as quick as the blink of an eye.
The one I was following flew up and over a shrub. Another one came up from below hitting it hard and attached itself mid-air to mate. I took many photos and gave them some privacy 10 minutes later. They were still joined.
I had noticed previously that a Scholtzia involucrata plant had many large wasps and honeybees feeding on the flowers. A Miltinus maculipennis fly flying over the plant flew down and bombed one of the wasps, hitting it very hard from above and quickly flew away.

Finally posting a photo of my sourdough bread - hot from the oven. What can I say? One loaf of bread basically looks like another even if the ingredients are different. Since I generally use the same loaf pans, there's little difference to show. But oh! the taste! I love the taste of sour dough bread. And because of the combination of good bacteria & fungi (yeast), this bread has good keeping quality. It doesn't go bad quickly like most breads will.
This was my bedtime snack - notice the HUGE cup of hot milky tea (16 oz)? A cup of tea this size ensures I'll need to get up to use the bathroom & make sure I feed Mozza his soupy meal during the night. And when I've tried going to bed without a big drink, I wake up SO thirsty during the night so I can't sleep through.
And no, caffeine doesn't keep me awake. It actually helps me sleep. I once took a couple of Wake-up pills (200 mg caffeine) to try to stay awake one afternoon. Couldn't fight the tiredness & ended up napping for 2 hours! I read that people with ADD (or ADHD) often find caffeine focuses & relaxes them. And since I'd been clinically diagnosed as having ADHD, maybe that's why?

I'm trawling my archive at the moment of pre-Flickr pictures and the backlog of pictures which I have intended posting, but have 'never got round to it'.
This set is from 2008 when I was 'invited' to the wedding of the daughter of one of my colleagues. How I came to be invited to the wedding and the amusing post-script generated as a result is another story... Suffice to say I was not invited by my colleague or anybody else involved in the wedding! Nevertheless, he was very pleased to see me there and I was made to feel most welcome.
The groom was a 'bit late' as he'd travelled up from Pune and there'd been an accident which had closed the highway. So, it turned into a long day... In the meantime the band played and played. They were great. Ancient looking clarinets and saxaphones. Quite a unique sound. He eventually arrived on a horse though I don't think he'd ridden it all the way; just got on it round the corner. Still... I could be wrong!
It was a relatively modest affair, but still there was a few hundred people crammed into the assembly hall somewhere in Panvel. After this bit of the ceremony, everybody patiently queued-up to pay their respects to the bride and groom. As far as I could tell this entailed standing with the happy couple whilst a photograph was taken and 30-40 seconds of inaminate video was shot. After this, gifts were handed over. I was totally unprepared for this but told not to worry about it!
To conclude the day, everyone was provided with a tasty vegetable thali before the bride and groom were driven off to goodness knows where. Even after the event, I was never able to ascertain where they'd actually gone on honeymoon!

QUITO METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL - LATE POST
I’m almost done with posting my pictures from this great trip 😜

Coastal views from a camp at Tacking Point and a walk around the beach and coast then a couple of hours in the Maritime Museum..
Apologies for not posting the whole facade, he light just wasn't going to permit me a decent comprehensive shot of it!
St Mary's in Iffley is justly one of England's most famous Romanesque churches. Although the chancel was rebuilt in Gothic style in the thirteenth century (no doubt replacing an apse) the building otherwise is unusually close to what the Norman builders left.
The exterior is a delight, particularly the wonderfully rich west front (though first thing in the morning is not the best time to photograph it!). Both the west and south doorways have magnificent sculpted decoration with a full complement of beak-heads, capitals and masks surrounding both entrances.
The tower was heavily restored in the 1970s, when most of it's external surface was renewed, giving it the somewhat fake look it has today (a few more centuries of weather are needed to blend).
Inside the dominant features are the Norman arches supporting the tower with the vaulted gothic chancel beyond.
The church is also notable for it's stained glass; there are some medieval fragments in two nave windows, but the most famous piece is John Piper's window at the west end, gven to the church after his death in 1992 by his wife Myfanwy.
