If you were to quickly read up on a survey of the Ottoman Empire, the most famous sultan in their 500 year existence (1453-1923) that you'll encounter is Suleiman the Magnificent. (In the east, he's known as Suleiman the Lawgiver.) He ruled the longest (1520-1556) and the Ottoman Empire peaked both in terms of territory and accomplishments during his reign.
This is the mosque that was built (by him) and...in his honor. It was built from 1550-57 (he died in 1556) and his remains are on the grounds here. It's a larger mosque, and tends to have a lot of visitors, though it isn't the most beautiful mosque to me.
It does offer, however, some of the best panoramic views of Istanbul across the Golden Horn and the Bosporus straits into the Asian side of Istanbul. This is most likely one of the best places to come for nighttime shots of Istanbul, too (though I was honestly too lazy to come back just for that). It gives me something to look forward to later.
This is a popular place for tourists, and many love to take selfies here. It's definitely worth a visit.

Say "Cheese"! Not so easy to pose on a swaying bridge but people will do anything for a good picture
