The bench had a lovely memorial to Susan Fletcher, 1950 to 1996
"The dear earth everywhere blossoms in spring and grows green again. Everywhere and eternally the distance shines bright and blue."
This is "the farewell" taken from the final movement of Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth) by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, which was written shortly after the death of his daughter from scarlet fever.

My paternal grandma loves posing for photos, and have photos of herself all over her house. It's easy to convince her to let me take her picture :)
Aliya's got a peculiar way of posing. Head tilted to the side, body bent slightly, and a touch of huge infectious smile.
Tortoise and the hare. Well, cottontail bunny. Visited the wash in the desert again yesterday and spotted a few mature tortoises, jack rabbits and a cotton tail bunny. We saw a couple of coyotes crossing the wash farther down from us.
This little lady wanted to pose for us. She lays her head on her right leg and stands motionless. When tortoises see humans, they usually freeze in their tracks.
