I really love the way this block came out. The variety of fabrics works well together. The funny thing is, I was really digging in the bottom of the barrel (almost literally) to find some new fabrics. I was planning on going to the store to find some quill fabric, but found that gorgeous print at the very bottom of a tub at the very bottom of my stack of tubs. This project is making me want to rearrange all my fabrics!

I built Ruby a 'cat pod' so he has an outdoor home - with thanks to Jason Spriggs for the inspiriation.

Harpa color series. The Iceland landscape was phenomenal, but I continued to be fascinated by the Harpa, which is the performing arts center. The architecture is stunning and inspired a burst of creativity.

I gotta admit, I jumped [pretty far when I spotted this guy through the corner of my eye. I think I'm a pretty brave guy. I've climbed 2000 foot cliffs and photographed sharks at close range thousands of miles from the nearest hospital. But, this little critter made me jump.

Some day, I'm going to sit down and figure out why. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that this guy could lurk in corners, in a sock, or under my covers...I would never see him coming.

Or, maybe it's just because I think he's ugly. He's probably as dangerous as those fierce butterflies but the latter would never cause my heart to skip a beat.

If it is a fact that I judged this creature based solely on its physical appearance, then I've learned something about myself that I don't particularly like.

But, in the end, ugly or not, I refrained from killing it. I faced my fears, sneaked up on it, and trapped it with a trusty chinese take-out soup container (I knew I saved it for some reason other than my mom having collected hundreds of them over the years). I'm sure he just turned around and walked right back into my home with his eight hairy legs after I released him outside. But, that's okay. I have dozens of these containers and I can always order more soup if need be.

Panels trying to escape!

Found these odd seed pods on Kilmory Beach (Argyll, West Coast of Scotland) on Sunday. They look a bit like gherkins on the outside, but the inside looks a bit like corn (is that maize in British?) The outer skin was very hard and tough and had to be cut through with a knife.

Thank you to Martin Sanford (martinsanford on flickr) for the ID.
