My son wanted a cool shot of him playing soccer, so we came up with this during an improvised 5 minute shoot.

This is shot with my 5D2 and the 17-40 (17mm, ISO100, f/4, 1/4000). The secret to a shot like this is a trampoline and the magic of High Speed Sync. I used a Pocketwizard TT1 with AC3 on the camera to trigger two bare 580EXII's with Pocketwizard TT5's. Both flashes are to camera right just outside the frame and at full power.

Because we had rather limited time, we opted for shooting the ball and my son separately and composite them together in Photoshop.

I went shooting today with Hector aka BigboyDrums, and he's teaching me off camera lighting using up to 5 lights in trade for my landscape seminar. I was lucky enough to not only shoot on scene, but in his studio as well! Let me tell you his pp is nuts! I can't wait to get a Wacom Tablet!

Anyways, we posted the same photo, different pose, but he kicked me ass in the pp!

So I said I was going to focus more on creating composites this year and I'm trying to stick to my New Year's resolution. This composite is not perfect, I still need a lot more work but it's a start.

PlainJoe's newest intern/designer, Aaron Kim, happens to be a fellow photographer. Last Saturday he was going to shoot a friend for a school project, so I asked if I could join in. I wanted to get a close up (which is not too common for me), so choose my MF 135 f2.8. I like the slight DoF it added. I will say I am a little out of practice with the manual focus. Kayla was a total sport for sitting there taking direction from two photographers. Tomorrow Aaron and I will be off on a small vegas day trip. Hopefully we will get some fun snaps!

I scheduled a shoot with Kezia today all the while forgetting that the World Cup championship game was today. We have been trying to get together to shoot since late last year but either because of weather or other circumstances we weren't to make a shoot happen. We finally were able to hook up today even though the makeup artist had to cancel we were able to make something happen.
