Since taking my own version of this self portrait, I've taken more photos of my daughter than any other person. She's helped me better myself as a photographer, and we've had lots of fun pulling off some of my favorite shots. I call her my little "Strobist in Training".

No. Seriously. It's big. 3 inches or so in diameter. :)

I was watching Mythbusters last night and Adam got to ride in a vintage U2 spy plane. The Earth looks pretty peaceful from 70,000 ft. If only it was that serene up close.

And for those who like this kind of stuff...

SB-900 @ 1/32 zoomed to 120mm, snooted, low camera left, Rosco gel # 364. SB-600 @ 1/64 gridded above, slightly camera right. Triggered by pocket wizards.

I have been going through some insane life changes lately, so I haven't picked up my camera at ALL, but Ben made me and we had a fun night shooting photos and he taught me some new shit.

I always appreciate the help he throws my way.

I'd link you to his stuff, but he deleted it all haha.

I'm helping DJ/Producer TRONA with some images for a new album and website. We had a shoot at lris Studios and this is one of the images from that night. This is only my 2nd time shooting in a real studio, the first being my shoot at the Microsoft Studios. We had a really productive 3 hour shoot and I think we came away with some images that we can both be happy about.

I made up my mind to take a bit more equipment to my riding spot last night. Instead of just carrying my light option, the EOS 100D, the two pancake lenses and one tabletop tripod I took the 5D3, the 70-200, a flash, two tabletop tripods and pocketwizards. I was going to bring the TC 80N3 remote to get a longer timer and ended up forgetting it when I packed my bag. Oh well, it meant I had to be quick.

I set up the camera framing the shot with the cathedral and some space to the side for me to ride in, set it to 1/200s for fast flash sync and chose the aperture and iso according to my liking with the help of live view.

Then I put the flash just out of frame to the right, close to the spot i was ging to do the trick in, set it on 1/2 power and started trying by shooting on 10 second timer, rushing to the spot and doing the trick. It took about 10 tries to get a result I liked.

It's by far not perfect but it was freezing cold, literally, and there is always a bit of luck involved when shooting action selfies like this. I was happy enough with the result.

I hope you enjoy this!

A delightfully elegant waterbird with ornate head plumes which led to its being hunted for its feathers, almost leading to its extermination from the UK. They dive to feed and also to escape, preferring this to flying. On land they are clumsy because their feet are placed so far back on their bodies. They have an elaborate courtship display in which they rise out of the water and shake their heads. Very young grebes often ride on their parents' backs.

Guess who decided to start back up her 52 week project? Sometimes being an artist can kind of suck, we just get all caught up in our own heads. As a good friend of mine once said, "if the world was filled with artists, there would be plenty of pretty things, but nothing would get done." It's so true! I tend to over think a lot of different aspects of my life and end up not creating much during that time.

Here's an image I created awhile back when I was experiencing a lot of negative emotions and left feeling not so great about quite a few things. The next few weeks will be sort-of themed in the same sort of "she-had-it-coming" way. It'll be interesting to re-visit some of these because of all the emotions attached to each shoot.

Shoutout to anyone who's ever felt used like an authentic Irish wool sweater in December. Yeah, I went there.

I had some trouble last tonight with my Pocket Wizards. They would not let me fire the 580ex II as a master to my 430ex. I thought I had done this before, come to find out that the 580ex II will only work correctly if it's mounted on to a hotshoe adapter? I have since ordered one but sorry no backlighting for this shot. Oh well!

Sebastian had a certain shot in mind when we met on saturday morning. Once we had a few versions of that we decided to look for another spot to shoot. Just a few pedals lead us to a bridge with this beautiful wall and little ambient light. I instantly thought "silhouette!"

After reviewing the pictures on the computer I realised I need to be more careful in lighting the background more evenly. Practice, practice, practice!

Another one of Heather during our quick test shoot couple weeks back. Definitely need to pull a proper shoot together and work with her again.

Over the weekend I was shown a couple more awesome locations that are real close. It really does pay to get out and explore your ea...you would be surprised at all the cool places right under your nose.

I love old Hollywood and I'm a huge fan of film noir. I hate doing self portraits. Tonight in a moment of love/hate. I combined those two things and got this.

I almost got it by myself but after a bunch of frames, I wasn't happy with any of them. I called in another set of eyes to help get my position just right. With that little bit of help we nailed it in just three frames. Special guest art director credit goes to Rebecca. :)

I was working on a graphic for work and I had the idea of dropping in one of the shot's of Eden into it. Decide to post it as something different. The picture itself was taken outdoors using one light.

This looks like a composite, but is actually a single shot. It's for the cover of the Quarter's new CD. If I had a bigger studio I would have been able to blow out the background to avoid the shadows, but I'll get rid of some of the more troublesome ones in Photoshop later.

This the first session with Pocket Wizards instead of my trusty Skyports. Lighting was 2 Sunpak 383's either side and slightly behind the band fired into softboxes with the front removed. Front light was a bare Canon 430EX.

I had a fair idea of how Chris was going to jump, so I got Ivan (on the left) to lean over a little so he'd be peeking through the gap.

This was like the second take and it worked out pretty good. Working with musicians is pretty good sometimes because when I count them in for the shot, they're on it. For some people it's like "1-2-3...blink!"

We decided to do a last minute photoshoot late Friday evening because the sky had been killer all afternoon! Too bad the clouds moved away faster than we anticipated as the sky was much cooler just minutes before this shot.

Trying to get a panning shot while also timing his position for the flash was the hardest part. Not to mention it was getting pretty dark by this time.
