It looks as if this machine comes from the early industrial era. Clearly electro plating was an important process needed in the railway workshops. This photograph is designed to reflect the grunge and grime of the period.

This was the view of Chrome Hill as I had successfully descended the most treacherous bit of the Parkhouse ridge (mainly on my derriere). My Scarpa Manta boots had a coating of sticky mud on their Vibram soles, which meant staying upright on the slippy limestone quite impossible. There wasn't enough snow and ice for crampons, so I have now ordered some micro-spikes for situations like this in the future.

It was strange to see the Peak District's "Dragon Back Ridge" coated by snow and ice on the North faces, with the South sides being cleared by days of winter sun. I think the effect accentuates the shape of this wonderful reef feature. Hence the pun on "winter chrome-plating"!

It was quite an exhilarating little trek, in fact I found the Parkhouse descent quite embarrassing, having scaled many a peak in the Alps, I have never before had to slither around like a geriatric sloth on a descent from a hill. I'm just glad there were no others around to watch it!

You can see from this shot and another I will post at some point, how exposed this little ridge is. You certainly get a lot of excitement from this Hill and the view of Chrome is just great from here.

A gold plated RCA jack (phono jack). The gold plating provides corrosion resistance for a more reliable connection; its look is just an added benefit.

Happiness - taken from a monologue of Roberto Benigni

forgive my translation...

...our whole life is summed up in this word,

Love

But there is one thing to say, that time passes

and the fundamental problem of mankind since 2,000 years is the same,

Love

But now it is more pressing, very pressing.

And when we hear today repeating again we have to Love each other

now we know there is not so much time, we have to hurry.

Let's hasten to Love. We Love always too little and too late.

Let's hasten to Love, becouse at the end of life we will be judged about Love.

Because there is no wasted Love.

And because there is no greater thrill to fell, when we are in love,

our life totally dependents by another person.

And because everythings, also the inanimate one

like the mountains, the oceans, the streets ... but more, more

the sky, the wind ... more

stars, more

cities, rivers, stones, palaces

all these things that in themselves are empty, indifferent

suddenly, when we watch them, are loaded with human meaning

and fascinate us, move us.

Why? Because they contain a premonition of Love, even inanimate things.

Because the plating of all creation is Love

and becouse Love fits with the meaning of everythings, Happiness.

Yes, Happiness.

Search her constantly every day.

but, whoever listens to me now, goes searching of happiness! Now!

Just at this moment, because she's there.

You have her. We have her.

Because they have given her to everyone.

They have given us as gift when we were children

and it was a so beautiful gift that we have hidden her,

like dogs with bone when they hide.

And many of us have hidden her so well that they cannot remember where.

but we have her, you have her.

Look in all the closets, shelves magazines of your soul.

Throw everything up!

Drawers, bedside tables, you will see her comes out.

There is Happiness!

Try shooting turn around, maybe you take her by surprise, but she's there.

We must always think about the Happiness,

and although she sometimes forgets us,

we never have to forget her, until the last day of our lives.

And we must not be afraid even of death.

Its more dangerous to born than to die.

We havent to be afraid to die but never begin to really live.

Jump into the existence now, here.

Because if you do not find anything now, you will not find anything ever again.

Here is eternity.

We have to say Yes to Life

We have to say a so full Yes to Life that is able to contain all the No.

Because now we understand that we know nothing

and that we dont understand anything, and we just understand there is a great mystery,

and that we must take it as it is and let it stay,

and that the thing that makes the most impression in the world

is the Life that goes on, and its unclear how she does.

But how? But how can she resists?

Its another mystery and no one has ever understood,

because Life is much more than we can understand

for this reason she resists.

If Life was just what we understand she would have ended since a long, long time.

And we feel it, we feel that at any moment there could happen something infinite,

and then each of us can do just one thing, bows.

The Brush Bagnall shunter slowly draws its train of mixed steel, mostly coils, out of Port Talbot steelworks.

Operations here were in transition at this time, the first of the remaining blast furnaces had closed early in 2024 with the second and final one to follow just under three weeks after our visit.

66021 is on the front of what we think are imported coils - or possibly a train that will head for the tin plating works at Trostre west of here. The loco took a train of coil to Hartlepool that afternoon, but could have worked a trip to Trostre later that morning, although records suggest that a train of imported steel went there directly from Cardiff about an hour before this photo was taken and there were only light engine movements to Trostre from here after that working.

To the left are a train of empties that will head for Cardiff docks later that day to be loaded with imported steel slabs.

Some time previously a ship had arrived in Cardiff full of steel from Tata in India where the parent company is based. BSC, the British Steel Corporation, had sold its works to Corus in 1999, they in turn sold it to Tata in 2007.

The future is uncertain, but there are plans to build an electric arc furnace here that could start producing steel from melted down scrap in 2027.

One thing that does seem certain is a couple of thousand redundancies that will take place not long after this photo was taken leaving around one thousand staff at a plant that employed 18,000 at its peak.

The Morrigan is a heavily modified sloop-of-war that is featured heavily in Assassins Creed: Rogue, an instalment of the well known Assassins Creed franchise that was released in 2014 and quite recently received a remaster.

If one upgrades the Morrigan all the way it is completely covered in silver decorations and armor plating which made it so interesting to me since I love working with metallic silver. It took an absurd amount of pieces and I doubt I will undertake something similar anytime soon.

This model had been on my desk for the better part of a year. Originally supposed to be finished for the Assassins Creed collab last fall I had to postpone it again and again due to work and life being in the way, and also due to its complex nature. In the end it measured slightly longer than 1 meter, the picture doesn't quite do it justice.

I learned a lot throughout the process and yet the Morrigan turned out to be a bit of a failure: After its inner structure got destroyed on the flight to Chicago I was unable to set it up at Brickworld this year and it had to remain in my suitcase, leaving me without my ‚main model‘. At least I had taken some photos before leaving which now allows me to present it here. I’m afraid this is the only picture I will post due to the aforementioned debacle.

I hope you like it, it was quite marvellous in person if I may say so :)

Many thanks to Ben for his continuous support and the Rogues, without whom I likely wouldn't have posted this.

New Earth Strategic Trust

Classification: Mid Range / Melee

Armaments:

(1) AR-X99BURST-TG

(1) FW-BONEBUSTER

(2) SH-REACT02H1

After the success of the Mammoth model, the Zenithal was born out of NESF's aim for a better defense combat reFrame with improved mobility. The new heavy model features a thicker armor plating than its predecessor and is equipped with the DASH movement system. This allows it to briefly move in a straight line, closing the gap between enemy combatants.

Equipped with an improved version of the AR-G99BURST, the AR-X99BURST-TG can load armor piercing rounds and carry more ammo. The FW-BONEBUSTER allows the Zenithal to take out enemy reFrames foolish enough to get into close range, while the shoulder-mounted SH-REACT02H1 deflects enemy fire from a distance.

This build is highly inspired by the Zenith Wanzer from the Front Mission series. I actually combined elements from various Zenith models (FM1, FM3, Left Alive's Zenith) to make this version.

United States Space Force

Formed in December of 2019, the USSF is a branch of the US AIr Force. Although its mission is public knowledge, much of its activity and infrastructure is unknown except to the highest levels of the military and government. With gravity plating being engineered in the 1950's, the only constraint was the quantity of rare earth elements. There had only been several square feet of plating, no more than a standard bath-mat, but enough to prove the technology. Thus the missions to the Moon. Once acquired, designs for a secret fleet of manned ships in permanent orbit would be feasible.

With a crew of five to ten, the latest and most advanced ships are capable of multiple missions. Armed with nuclear and kinetic weapons for terrestrial targets, and phalanx and ship to ship missiles, these ships are both offensive and defensive platforms.

General George J. Stennard was a Union general during the US Civil War. He was in command of the Vermont Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg. The Vermont Brigade was known for stopping Pickett's Charge, July 3rd, 1863, winning the battle and stopping the invasion of Washington, DC. In spite of the cynicism surrounding the US Space Force, the mission, beginning 1982 as the US Space Command, has been crucial to the US and allied security. Thus, like her namesake, the Stannard and her crew may be the most important ship and soldiers you've never heard of.
