i had fun doing this, i just made one big mess of my bathroom that will never be clean ever again. i am enternally plagued with glitter.
this was a risky shot for me too. heres why.
1: its glitter, who doesnt feel like a dare devil when glitter is in your hand?
2: theres the risk it will never go away.
3: i had to use something to keep the glitter from falling off my face...(ha right!) i chose vaseline, i also had on make up, (which i cant wear and never do) and i had all of said glitter. my skin is HIGHLY sensative. putting this much 'unkonwn' on my face was a risk.
4: my mom would walk down and think i had turned 7 years old again and lock me up, or laugh.
the stakes were high, so i jumped higher. i was just going to put a little glitter at first but then my brains said "no. go big or go home, its that simple."
moral of this lesson: glitter is like sin, you try just a little and then you get addicted, when youve realized what youve done you try to quickly cover it up or remove it..but you cant, and it will never go away. theres no man made cure for removing glitter that you can buy, at least not at my walmart, only one thing can remove your sin, and that is death. but you dont have to die, Christ already did.
Eu tenho uns parentes de segundo grau que são pessoas muito humildes.
Vivem em barracos quase caindo aos cacos, mas são felizes, alegres e como já é de família, extremamente bonitos (as).
Essa é minha prima Monara. Ela é a mais velha das quatro irmãs. Tem 8 anos de idade e como as outras adora cantar na igreja, mas diferente das outras é a que realmente gosta mesmo de desenhar e pintar. Ela por ser a mais velha, é a que mais percebe os problemas da família, talvez por isso ela tenha sempre esse olhar triste e marcante, e quase não sorria também.
Acho que os olhos dela são a boca, não precisa dela falar pra se comunicar, basta olhar os belos olhos verdes dela.
Na minha opinião, ela vai ser artista quando crescer...mas ainda tem muita água pra rolar...

The Ingham County Arts Commission and the Ingham County Fair partnered in this project which brought together professional and student artists, and community residents to conceive of the images, design and paint the mural. The "Murinal" remained a landmark at the fairgrounds for over a decade but has now been painted out.

So here is a older image that i have had in my to edit folder. One of my biggest problems with it was that i cut off the top of the trees on the right, which i did not seem to realize when i took the photo. I think the main reason i came back to it today was that i have been feeling rather down in the past few days and i looked at this and thought hmmm this slightly goes along with my mood, a dreary depressing day.
This was taken on a foothill that faces Mount Bachelor in Bend Oregon, it was a very cold and rainy day but we were not going to let that stop us from a great photo trip. It was great to be able to see snow in person again as i have not seen it in over six years since i moved to Florida from Mass, so no mater how old and rainy it was i was very much enjoying my time.
Well hopefully i will have some good photo's for you guys tomorrow evening or the next morning as i am heading south to Jupiter's Blowing Rocks which is a fantastic place to shoot during a larger swell which we are having right now, its a large reef that is on the beach and with larger swells the water shoots up through the reefs creating the blowing affect.

Despertar os sentidos
A concepção do jardim assenta na especificidade da maioria dos seus criadores e na dos destinatários: é um jardim feito por crianças a pensar nas crianças.
A melhor forma encontrada para abordar o tema dos sentidos de um prisma essencialmente infantil baseou-se num desenho da Laura, na altura com 4 anos. Considerando que o rosto humano encerra em si a quase totalidade das janelas para os sentidos, e que é no rosto que temos os órgãos receptores de uma série de estímulos, foi também opção dos autores conceber a exploração do espaço de jardim num duplo propósito: o esteticamente aprazível tem de conviver com o ludicamente atractivo.
É sugerido ao visitante um percurso que também encerra uma dupla valência. Ao mesmo tempo que se exploram os espaços do jardim, é dada a primazia ao sentido que o rosto recebe mas não protagoniza. Com efeito, ao propor aos visitantes que se descalcem, os criadores remetem ao longo de todo o jardim para o tacto. É a pé e com os pés que se deve usufruir do espaço, experimentando as várias texturas.
Quanto aos outros sentidos, as propostas são variadas: a simulação de um lago no lugar da boca como ilustração da metáfora “água na boca”; os instrumentos musicais como a vocalarpa ou o tubobidonofone (este no local de uma das orelhas “forrado” por canas que emitem sons com o soprar do vento); a instalação da audeólica, os últimos para ilustrarem a audição. Na visão, os canteiros em forma de olhos e o apelo às mais variadas sugestões cromáticas nas variações de piso, nas cores da vegetação com tanto de mimético como de metafórico, ou através de vários artifícios, como as garrafas e as mangueiras pintadas no local dos cabelos, são alguns dos pontos a destacar. No que respeita ao olfacto, inevitavelmente centrado no nariz, são os odores florais e de plantas aromáticas que detêm a primazia.
Para além da ilustração dos sentidos, a sugestão do percurso não se pretende meramente contemplativa. Foram criadas áreas de lazer para o público infantil, onde para além dos instrumentos musicais, o visitante poderá encontrar um espaço de leitura, a VocaBolaRis, e outro para brincar. Este último inclui, na orelha esquerda do rosto, a espiralbola, ilustrativa da vertigem do tímpano. Ao lado, todos poderão jogar à macaca, numa área concebida e pensada para o efeito.

This 19th century cottage was recommended for local heritage listing in the City of Campbelltown Heritage Survey 1996. Council did not undertake the registration process for this cottage and for other places recommended in the survey. The cottage was demolished some time between approximately 2006 and 2008. The last few years have seen several of the handful of remaining old cottages and houses demolished in the Athelstone area. It is a pity I didn't get a better photo with a proper camera. Timber framed two roomed cottage clad with corrugated iron with pressed metal to front wall. Hipped corrugated iron roof with brick chimney. Bullnosed verandah on simple timber posts. Leanto addition to rear.
Statement of heritage value
Of simple timber framed and iron construction, this house was originally the residence for a market garden. Subsequently owned by labourers, gardeners and farmers, the house represents the horticultural and agricultural development of the area in the early part of this century.
Relevant criteria (under section 23(4) of the Development Act 1993)
(a) it displays historical, economic or social themes that are of importance to the local area.
(b) it represents customs or ways of life that are characteristic of the local area.
(c) it displays aesthetic merit, design characteristics or construction techniques of significance to the local area.
History
It is likely that this house ws built by John Russell, a farmer, who owned a property of over nine acres in 1893. The house remained in Russell's ownership until his death in August 1918. In December of that year the property was sold to Isabella Marchant. On 27 October 1919 Alfred Amber (the elder), a gardener, paid £210 for the property which then comprised seven acres.
In October 1923 the property was transferred to Arthur Amber (jun). Several people owned the house in the following years, including B.L. Hockley, a labourer, J. Crocker, poultry farmer, and D.M. Amber, a carter. In July 1957 the house was bought by Victor R. Cramer, a gardener, who sold it to Avis M. Hill in 1965. Claude T. Bennett, an accountant, owned the house between 1966 and 1976.
Inspired by Monet's paintings of Rouen Cathedral (take a look here www.learn.columbia.edu/monet/swf/ ) I decided to try something a little different to capture the imposing structure of the building and the delicate brightly coloured glass, which becomes the main focus for the eye once inside. It was also a chance to try out a feature of my new camera which I haven't tried before. It's a double exposure made in camera and made only once as the two viewpoints were a good few hundred meters apart. The first frame was a slightly over exposed shot of the cathedral facade taken under overcast sky and flat light and the second a slightly blurred shot of a stained glass window near the altar. I chose the window I felt was the most vibrant of all those around the cathedral and had a good mix of colours. All in camera, the two shots become a single RAW file which I converted to TIFF boosting the saturation and contrast a little. Whadaya reckon?
The Qolsarif mosque located in Kazan Kremlin is the largest mosque in Russia and, reputedly, in Europe.
Originally, the mosque was built in Kazan Kremlin in the 16th century. It was named after Qolsarif who served there. Qolsharif died with his numerous students while defending Kazan from Russian forces in 1552. It is believed that the building featured minarets, both in the form of cupolas and tents. Its design was traditional for Volga Bulgaria, although elements of early Renaissance and Ottoman architecture could have been used as well. In 1552, during the storm of Kazan it was destroyed by Ivan The Terrible.
Tatar scholars speculate as to whether some elements of Qolsarif mosque can be seen in Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow (8 minarets, a central cupola, not typical for Russian architecture). Since 1996 the mosque has been rebuilt in Kazan Kremlin, although its look is decisively modern. Its inauguration on July 24, 2005 marked the beginning of celebrations dedicated to the Millennium of Kazan.
Several countries contributed to the fund that was set up to build Qolsharif mosque. Namely, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates. Qolsharif is considered to be one of the most important symbols of Tatar aspiration to independence and liberty. Nowadays the mosque predominantly serves as Museum of Islam. At the same time during the major Muslim celebrations thousands of people gather there to pray.
The Qolsharif complex was envisioned to be an important cornerstone of Kazan architectural landscape. Besides the main mosque building it includes the library, publishing house and Imam's office.

This imposing tambol (mirrorless) aparador has Neoclassical influences popular in English furniture in the first few decades of the 19th century. Catching up with the trend, local artisans added ancient Greek and Roman in their work such as this elegant piece. The detachable crown is a Regency scroll carved with palmette, flowers and foliates; in the corners there are bulbous urn finials. Framed, beautifully carved interlacing foliates and flowers centering a bulbous stylized blossom decorate the moulded frieze. On either side of the cabinets are rounded pilasters flanked by flanges of blocks inscribed with flowers and palmette brackets. The doors have raised center panels and a silver keyhole cover, opening to 4 layers of shelving and 2 inner drawers for ample storage. Additional 2 outside drawers rest on the base supported by perfectly-shaped ball and blunt arrow feet.

Con elementos de la vida del propio autor, Viaje de un largo día hacia la noche gira en torno a los conflictos de una familia norteamericana quebrada por las frustraciones y los vicios. Mary, una mujer presa de una adicción imposible de desarraigar, está casada con James Tyrone, un actor que ha pasado su vida haciendo giras sin poder formar un verdadero hogar y llevando frecuentemente a su esposa, que de joven soñaba con ser monja o concertista de piano, como acompañante. Ambos tienen dos hijos, Edmundo y Jimmy, quienes consideran que la tacañería de su padre es la causa de muchos de los males de la familia. Very few images of Stephens Gap show this angle. The keyhole as we call it is a small opening on the upper side of the pit. At the very top it is just large enough for one person drop into. There is enough room however to rig two ropes and a second caver can drop in as soon as the first caver is about 10 feet down. At this level there is a small alcove in front of Sabrina as well as a window to her right looking out over the pit and main waterfall. Dropping a few feet more you pass though into the main section of the cave which bells out considerably. About eighty feet further and your on the pedestal rock. The pit drops another 30 feet to the bottom where the water crashes down and disappears into the rock below. For this shot we had two ropes - one for Sabrina and the other for me. Camera rig was double tethered to a tripod which in turn was double tethered to me. Safety is paramount when shooting in this environment. Fortunately this wasn't one of those days.

El Ebro es el río más caudaloso de la Península Ibérica, que recorre el valle de su nombre en dirección NO.-SE. con una longitud total de 910 km y 83.093 km2 de cuenca.
Nace en Fontibre cerca de Reinosa, en la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria, discurriendo por Miranda de Ebro, Haro, Logroño, Tudela, Alagón, Zaragoza, Caspe y Tortosa.
Los principales macizos montañosos que delimitan su cuenca son: los Pirineos al norte, el Sistema Ibérico al sur y los Picos de Europa en su nacimiento.
Desemboca al mar Mediterráneo en Deltebre (Delta del Ebro), próximo a Tortosa (Tarragona), formando un Delta donde la Isla de Buda divide la corriente en dos brazos principales (Golas Norte y Sur). El Delta del Ebro cubre 330 km2 - 20% de los cuales son áreas naturales y la superficie restante es agrícola y urbana; los campos de arroz en el Delta cubren sobre unas 21.000 ha.
El Ebro sufre sus crecidas más frecuentes en la estación fría, de octubre a marzo, aunque a veces se prolongan en el tramo final hasta mayo; las de estación fría suelen estar ligadas al régimen pluvial oceánico, mientras que las ocurridas en primavera son fruto de la fusión de la nieve de los Pirineos. Los estiajes se producen en verano: de julio a octubre, en Miranda de Ebro y de fines de agosto y primeros de septiembre en Tortosa.
Las aguas del Ebro se aprovechan en numerosos puntos para el regadío mediante los canales Imperial y el de Tauste. Su caudal es regulado por los embalses del Ebro, Mequinenza y Ribarroja. Estos embalses hacen que en la actualidad el Delta sufra un fenómeno geológico llamado regresión, porque detienen los sedimentos que deberían llegar a la desembocadura.
Su nombre deriva del antiguo topónimo Iber, que da también nombre a los pueblos íberos. Notablemente, en lengua vasca "ibar" significa ribera o margen del río.
Situación geográfica: Norte de España, atraviesa las comunidades de Cantabria, Castilla y León, La Rioja, Navarra, Aragón y Cataluña
Origen: Se plegaron los sedimentos exteriores (los Pirineos y Béticos) dando lugar a dos cordilleras de tipo alpino (Pirineos y Béticas) que produjo en compensación el hundimiento de dos cosas : el valle del Ebro, y el valle del Guadalquivir invadidos por el mar.
Nacimiento: tradicionalmente se fijaba en el manantial de Fontibre a 880 m. hoy se fija en las fuentes del río Hijar en Peñalabra a 1980 m., 27 km antes de Reinosa, corriente que viene del manantial.
Desembocadura: Mar Mediterráneo. El Parc Natural del Delta de l'Ebre fue creado en 1983 por la Generalitat de Catalunya por la demanda de los habitantes del municipio de Deltebre. Es la zona humeda mas importante de Cataluña con una superfície total de 7802 hectareas.

Original caption: On November 4, 2020, the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) confirmed that Antarctic sea ice extent had reached its seasonal maximum on September 28. Measuring 18.95 square kilometers (7.32 square miles), this maximum extent was the eleventh highest in the satellite record. Between that date and November 4, daylight has lengthened and temperatures crept upward as austral spring advanced, prompting sea ice to begin its annual melt cycle.
According to NSIDC, between September 28 and November 4, Antarctic sea ice has declined by 1.30 million square kilometers (502,000 million square miles, but at a slightly slower rate than average, which means that there is currently a slight increase in the difference between the daily sea ice extent and the 1981 – 2010 average.
On November 23, 2020, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of Antarctica.
Thin black lines have been overlain on the image to mark the edge of the continent. Inside of these lines bright white snow and ice stretch across the frozen land of Antarctica. On the other side, sea ice floats on the deep dark waters of the Southern Ocean. Close to the continent the ice clings to the continent and is known as “fast ice”. Two large ice shelves are easily visible: the Ross Ice Shelf sits near the bottom of the image and the Ronne Ice Shelf lies between the Antarctic Peninsula (left side of the image) and the Weddell Sea. Both ice shelves cling to the coast along West Antarctica. In contrast, fast ice along the curved coast of East Antarctica has begun to visibly melt, leaving open water in many locations.
While fast ice clings to the land and juts out over ocean waters, much of the sea ice surrounding Antarctica is free-floating. Thinner and often made of various sizes of broken bits of ice, sea ice may appear roughened and somewhat dark when viewed from space – a significant contrast with the shiny, smooth, bright appearance of solidly frozen ice of fast ice or ice and snow that cover Antarctica. Carried by currents, sea ice may also create swirls and filigrees over the Southern Ocean.

This daisy had a surprise for any little bug passing bye! The little white spider--barely noticeable--appeared as a daisy petal even from as close as 5-6 inches! I could not make its body parts out (i was not sure if I am shooting its front or back) until I developed the pictures. Because i did not see it clear enough, I took about 100 picture sof it.. so now I have 100 perfectly clear and sharp monsters on my computer hard drive! =) I suppose its mother would think it is cute!
Details: Canon 7D with Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM at f4.0 with shutter speed of 1/1000 at ISO 100 and I had the white balance on manual with an exposure bias of +2/3 EV. I am actually experimenting with white balance now to see what surfaces in what light will need an increase of exposure. I am amazed to find that it is the very light in high sun that need an exposure increase but subjects in the shade, if given an exposure increase, tend to bleach out. I find this counter intuitive... I will have to study up on the matter. =)
I did most of the picture developing in Lightroom 3 and the vignetted cutout in Onone's PhotoTools using a preset (available at OnOne's website). I used CS5 only to convert from TIFF to JPG and add my copyright stuff.

Made of highly prized indigenous rosewood known as balayong (Afzelia rhomboidea), it has a reddish brown color that tends to darken even more with age, and has a natural luster. Very difficult to work with due to its durability and interlocking grain. The craftsmanship and condition of this table is comparable to similar tables kept in museums and top-notch private collections.
Called colloquially as dinemonyo table, it is one of the most elusive pieces of early Hispano-Filipino furniture, considered arguably as the pinnacle object to many serious furniture collectors and connoisseurs. An authentic example with original members, it is an extremely rare find.
The rectangular paneled top is enclosed by a frame with ice-plate edge to soften the edges and disguise its thickness. Below are two large drawers fitted with umbrella bosses, ornate protective key plates, and O-ring pulls. Reinforced by flanges and aprons with conforming billowing, cloud-like outlines that connect the demonyo masks on all four corners. These finely carved masks have raised fluted top hair, bulging eyes, prominent nose, mouth agape revealing some teeth and fangs, and scrolling facial hair. The cabriole legs show the delineations of a lion’s lower leg before terminating in deep, highly detailed ball and claw foot grasping a ball, resting on round-edged stretchers surmounted on ogee feet. Assembled using ancient Chinese mortise and tenon (closed and through types), as well as dovetail joints that have remained firm and strong.

The Waldensia Coal and Coke Company under took in 1901 an effort to build a large complex to support their coal mining and coke making business. Among the supporting facilities were 80 cottages, a commissary, a hotel, offices, a school*, a post office, a train depot, many coke ovens, a large coal washing facility, and a railroad! It was all completed in 1904.
A sawmill was also constructed to prepare the wood for their building needs, and most of the required logging was done on their own property.
The lake was created by the building of a dam on Mammy’s Creek, where it still stands today. Since the lake and dam are on private property today (2009), you have to view the lake, and falls that cascade over the dam wall, through a large growth of hemlocks. I was told by the owner that someone had recently fallen on the property and was currently suing him over a broken hip. Therefore, “private property” signs have been posted and a fence is being built around the beautiful lake.
I suppose this means that the cool waters of the lake and the shade of the hemlocks will never be freely available to the general public again. Such a shame…why do Americans have to sue so much?

The bridge owes its name to a wooden "blue bridge" that was there from around 1600 but no longer exists and which was painted the characteristic blue of the Dutch flag. It kept the name after 1883 when it was replaced by the spans of a new bridge which is inspired by the architecture of several of the bridges over the Seine in Paris.
The stone bridge has three openings for ships and is richly decorated. The bases are formed like ships bows and on top columns with leaf-motifs, masks and finally the Imperial Crown of Austria. Also the lantern poles have shipping decorations and the lanterns themselves are again in the shape of crowns.

Montblanc is the capital of the Catalan comarca Conca de Barberà, in the Spanish province of Tarragona
The medieval walled City of Montblanc is situated in the interior of the province of Tarragona, Spain. It is the commercial & cultural centre of the district and is visited by tourists who come to see the medieval Wall, (La Muralla de Montblanc) The Cathedral, and the medieval architecture belonging to many of the City's buildings.
The area around Montblanc has been inhabited for thousands of years. Evidence of cave dwellings have been found dating back to Palaeolithic times.
From the 4th to the 1st century BC Iberian villages existed on Santa Bàrbara hill. These villages coexisted with the early Roman settlers. Evidence of Roman artifacts have been found which date from between the 2nd century BC to the 2nd century AD.
After the invasion by the Moors in 711 AD, much of the area became dominated by a patchwork of Islamic fiefdoms. The Islamic invasion initiated a long period of very successful agricultural and commercial development. This was responsible for the birth of many towns and villages in the region which still retain their Islamic names.
The 10th and 11th centuries seem to have been a period of relatively peaceful coexistence in which Muslims, Christians and Jews lived in the region of Montblanc. This productive period continued until an allegiance of forces, strongly supported by the Roman catholic church, initiated an era of violent & destructive expulsion (1492 ~ 1614, which forced the Moors, the Jews and many of the interbred mixed race peoples to leave the Iberian peninsular. After the expulsion, the region was dominated by the Roman Catholic Church during which time the nearby Monastery at Poblet was rebuilt and expanded.
The traditional local medieval fiestas & pageantry, that are still regularly performed in Montblanc, confirm the probable use of Montblanc by the Knights Templar. Such towns offered the Knights a place to stay during their passage across Spain.

Montblanc es un municipio, capital de la comarca de la Cuenca de Barberá, en la provincia de Tarragona, Comunidad Autónoma de Cataluña, España. Posee el título de Villa Ducal desde el 1387 y el casco antiguo fue declarado Conjunto Histórico-Artístico en 1948.
La villa debe su nombre al montículo situado en el casco antiguo, conocido como Pla de Santa Bárbara. En este monte (mont, en catalán) no había huertas ni campos agrícolas porque se consideraba muy poco fértil (blanc, en catalán medieval). La unión de los dos motes dio el nombre de Montblanc.
A principios del siglo XI se fundó un pueblo conocido como Duesaigües donde los ríos Anguera y Francolí se juntaban.
Para favorecer la repoblación de la Cataluña Nueva, el conde Ramón Berenguer IV otorgó licencias libres de impuestos (no pagar usatges, ni censos, ni tasas por la leña ni agua) a algunas poblaciones, entre ellas Duesaigües. Entonces, en 1155, la población se rebautizó como Vilasalva (villa salvada -villa libre de impuestos-).
Las continuas inundaciones y la necesidad de poseer una fortificación en el camino de Lérida a Tarragona, hicieron decidir al rey Alfonso I trasladar la población a un pequeño monte cerca de allí y otorgó la nueva carta de población a Pere Berenguer de Vilafranca. Así nació Montblanc, era el febrero de 1163.
La villa creció rápidamente; el 1170 ya están documentados el castillo y una pequeña iglesia románica dedicada a Santa María. Apareció el barrio del Mercado, con actividades comerciales.
Durante el siglo XIII Montblanc creció gracias a nuevos privilegios reales y a la concesión de mercados y ferias de ganado. Se constituyó el municipio por orden de Pedro el Grande el 1284, la veguería de Montblanc y se fundaron las Escrivanías Reales y el Estudio Mayor.
La villa adquiere importancia dentro de Cataluña. En estos tiempos de construyen la iglesia de San Miguel, la Judería, y los conventos de San Francisco, de la Serra y de la Merced, así como el hospital-iglesia de San Bartolomé y de Santa Magdalena. Y también algunos edificios civiles como la Casa de la Villa, el Palacio Real y la Casa de los Josa.
En Valencia hay una calle dedicada a Montblanc, regalo del rey Jaime el Conquistador a la villa agradeciendo la ayuda de un grupo de nobles locales que viajaron con él a la conquista del Reino de Valencia.
El auge más importante de la villa es en el siglo XIV cuando llega a ser la séptima ciudad de Cataluña por número de habitantes, después de Barcelona, Lérida, Tortosa, Gerona, Tarragona y Puigcerdá, y una villa con un importante peso económico. El rey Juan I concedió a su hermano (y futuro rey) Martín el Humano el título de Duque de Montblanc.
Se construyen las obras más importantes de la villa; el recinto amurallado (con 31 torres y 5 puertas), la iglesia de Santa María, el hospital de San Marcial y el Palacio de los Alenyà. Se cubrió el torrente Riuot, que pasa por el centro de la villa y se edificaron molinos, puentes, la prisión, etc.
Desde principios de siglo XV, el párroco de Montblanc tiene el título de Plebán. Hoy en día sólo hay dos más: en Oliva y en Onteniente, ambas en Valencia.
A finales de siglo, Montblanc cayó en desgracia. Malas cosechas, epidemias y la Guerra civil catalana acabaron con el crecimiento espectacular de la Villa Ducal. Las murallas y muchas casas y puentes se vieron gravemente afectadas.
Durante los siglos XVI y XVII se produzco una mejoría pero la Guerra de los Segadores fue un golpe muy duro para la villa; se destruyeron parte de las murallas, se quemaron los archivos y, durante su retirada, las tropas castellanas del General Palavicino bombardearon la iglesia gótica de Santa María. Se producieron asaltos, squeos e incendios, todo ello arruinó definitivamente la población que perdió su peso económico y político. Este episodio se conoce como La Gran Quemada
Con la Guerra de Sucesión la villa perdió sus privilegios y su veguería. La Guerra de Independencia y las peleas entre liberales i carlistas dieron la puntilla.
La población se fue recuperando rápidamente a mediados de siglo XIX con artesanos y agricultores del cultivo de la vid. Se produjo una explosión demográfica y comercial con la llegada de mejores comunicaciones (carreteras a Valls -1821- y a Reus -1843-) y, sobre todo, con la llegada del tren el 1863. Para dejar paso a los carros llenos de aguardiente, entre los años 1855 y 1865 se destruyen los arcos que cubrían la calle mayor. También se destruyen las puertas amuralladas de entrada y salida de la calle mayor (de San Francisco y de San Antonio).
Todo esto acabó con la llegada de la filoxera, que arruinó las vides completamente. Hasta mediados de siglo XX no se empezaría a notar una mejoría de la zona, y en los últimos años ha sufrido la transformación más grande de su historia, superando la cota de los 6.500 habitantes.
Montblanc tiene escudo propio desde 1287, cuando por el tratado de Olorón se autorizó a cinco poblaciones del reino que tuviesen sello: fueron Montblanc, Barcelona, Huesca, Lérida y Cervera.
La tradición catalana supone que la leyenda de Sant Jordi ocurrió en Montblanc. Existe el Portal de Sant Jordi donde cuenta la tradición que delante del portal el santo mató el dragón.

A visit to the Museo Etrusco on the Via Don Giovanni Minzoni in Volterra. Was a lot of Etruscan and Roman artifacts here. Also a back garden.
The Guarnacci museum is one of oldest public museums of Europe: it began in 1761 when the noble abbot Mario Guarnacci (Volterra 1701-1785) gave its enormous archaeological heritage, collected over years of research and purchases, to the "public of the city of Volterra".
The current disposition and location of materials demonstrate Maffei’s positivistic impact, with items separated by classes and the urns distinguished according to the theme of the bas-relief on the case. While respecting the historic memory of this arrangement, an attempt was made, in recent times, to associate it with another, more didactic, chronological tour inside the exhibition itself, able to conduct the visitor through the long history of the Etruscan Velathri.
The Guarnacci Etruscan Museum is located in via Don Minzoni in Volterra , and contains one of the most beautiful collections of Etruscan art.
In 1776 the canon of the cathedral of Volterra Pietro Franceschini found near the Etruscan necropolis of the Portone a hypogeum of considerable size dating back to the Hellenistic period, containing forty Etruscan urns, which in 1777 donated to the town of Volterra . This donation was the first nucleus of the Civic Museum which soon collected many other works found in the surroundings of Volterra and which until then had been kept in private collections of noblemen from Volterra.
Among the various donations, the most important and most important was that of Monsignor Mario Guarnacci ( 1701 - 1785 ), a wealthy priest who promoted numerous archaeological excavation campaigns, which on 15 September 1761 donated his entire collection to the newborn museum. He was named after the museum that in over two centuries of history has increased its heritage thanks to numerous excavation campaigns promoted by the Superintendency of Antiquities of Etruria.
The first seat of the museum was Palazzo Ruggeri, home of Guarnacci, later it was transferred first to some halls of the town hall and then from 1877 in the Desideri-Tangassi palace, the current headquarters.
The first Prefect and Librarian of the Guarnacci Museum is the Roman abbot Francesco Ballani , well-known librettist of his time, who was succeeded by Giuseppe Cailli in 1805 until his death in 1810 . Francesco Inghirami ( 1772 - 1846 ) occupied this position from 1810 until 1815 .
I didn't take much inside of the museum, only what took my interest at the time. Was mostly all the same kind of things from the Etruscan period.
On the floor in the middle of the building I didn't get more than these two sculptures. There was rooms with Roman tiles on the floors under raised walkways, and more sarcophagus!
L'Ombra della Sera - apparently somebody used to used this as a back scratcher until they realised how old it was!
The Shadow of the Evening
The bronze comes from the antiques market and was part of the collection at least since 1737 by Filippo Buonarroti in Florence. Since the work certainly comes from Volterra. Mario Guarnacci, the founder of the homonymous Museum where it is now preserved, acquired by exchange or purchase, around 1750.

Dallas Police Memorial stands next to Dallas City Hall is designed by Ed Baum and John Maruszczak my former Professors at University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture. They won the competition in 1996.
" A stainless steel construction emerges from the site like a figurative officer's shield and carries the badge numbers and names of police killed in the line of duty. One plane floats as an overhead bar while another follows the incline of the earth. The plane above casts a rectangular shadow across the broad asphalt steps, recalling the mourning bar worn on police badges when an officer is lost. Within this shadow the badge numbers of fallen officers are illuminated, projected by the rays of the sun. The removed stainless numerals, like reversed stencils. are mounted and given to the officers' families." ~ from record architects site

I rarely make a "political" comment but this just makes me crazy. Yes, reform is needed but even more critical is the need for people to stand up and take responsibility for their lifestyle and health-style choices. If you smoke, stop. If you are overweight and out of shape, diet and exercise. If you want to have multiple partners, use commonsense. Don't drink and drive. Excessive drinking will destroy you. Don't do drugs. Fast food is not a section on the food pyramid. Stop looking for the miracle pill to fix all your problems! Most of our health related problems in this country are self-induced. Wake up people and be personally responsible! You don't require any kind of government legislation to get up off your butt and get your act together. No obstacle is so unsurmountable if you take it in small pieces.
President Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." I offer this variation: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for yourself!"
