Receiving a few messages from home and feeling rough, home is the only place where Josh wants to be.

It worries me sometimes that the public don't think we're real people with real lives, doing things every other Tom, Dick and Harry does for themselves or their families. Nobody shakes a stick at footballers who earn millions, and even the bankers and government get away with blaming us and other people when really they're the real scumbags, toying with money that isn't theirs. The papers might say otherwise, but it's true what I say: You don't know how the Underground really works unless you've lived it. Annie Mole can tell you all she wants, and yes I wont doubt the fact she knows a lot about the Underground, but there's something she can't seem to capture about (after all, she just blogs about the Underground; she doesn't work for the Underground) – the real essence of the lives of those who work to keep this tinpot railway going – real life on the job as we say. I want to try and capture it, or the stories at least, and perhaps the ones you don't really care about because because you're too busy listening to what the Evening Standard is telling you about us.

We always tell each other to enjoy the days off and the annual leave when we do get it, because we spend our hours at work willing the time away to the ends of our shifts. Before you know it, that time has been and gone Underground. All the old-timers always tell me that if the shift work doesn't get around to killing you, something else will. There are endless stories of people finally managing to retire, but then keeling over days later. Or getting cancer (as we breathe in a lot of crap doing all that time Underground – and half the stuff we come into contact with is carcinogenic, not counting the cigarettes people smoke).

In my second year on the job, I worked a lot with a bloke called Roger, but then he passed away. I'd worked with him on a Sunday afternoon. He kept telling me now and again that this job would be the death of him. He passed away early on the Tuesday morning. It was weird. Everybody turned up at his funeral in full-and-formal uniform. There was even an Underground roundel made from flowers. Lewisham Crematorium was packed out with about 50 members of staff that day.

It's horrible not knowing what day it is because you've been working all night or because you've set the alarm for 02:30 for the dead earlies. Everything's a blur. People come and people go. We see thousands of faces everyday. Some are kind and some are not, but sometimes they're all a blur too. Things change, but some things stay the same. The stories, the traditions, the practises and the heritage. All in a fraction of a second. All forgotten by the next day.

Time might seem slow for you when you're stuck on a train for whatever reason, but for us, it flies by. I was 18 when I started and I remember my first day out on the gateline like it was yesterday, but when I think about the fact I'll be turning 22 towards the end of this year, I find it so hard to make sense of it all.

Walking Trails Ecocentro Danaus Reserve by DAngelo michael alan

Ecocentro Danaus (<-- video) is located a couple miles east of La Fortuna Costa Rica. It's a fairly small reserve, 600 meters of walking trails, but boy, do they pack a LOT in such a small area. Danaus was created about 13 years ago when some forward thinking people decided it might be better to grow life than cut it down. Danaus is like a mini oasis since it's completely surrounded by pasture and cattle land. Here's what Ecocentro Danaus says about itself: 'Ecocentro Danaus is an ecological reserve that preserves a natural regenerating secondary forest. Many different biological processes take place here and there is a great biodiversity of flora and fauna in its natural state.'Danaus is worth a look if your in the La Fortuna area and you need something to do for a couple hours.

Aún no he tenido ocasión de probar ‘Gods Will Be Watching’, lo nuevo de del estudio español Deconstructeam, pero si me guío por las palabras de mi compañero Gallego, sé que me gustará. Y también que lo sufriré. Porque entre sus contras está esa “necesaria y alta tolerancia a la frustración”.

Y si ni con ésas alguno se anima a catar este ‘Gods Will Be Watching’, al menos le alegrará saber que ya está su “actualización piadosa”, un parche que viene con nuevos ajustes de desafío para la dificultad general y la opción para eliminar el elemento del azar de las decisiones tomadas”.

En palabras de Jordi de Paco, diseñador de Deconstructeam:

“El equipo está muy contento con el lanzamiento de Gods will be watching y la recepción del intenso reto que nos propusimos entregar, pero también hemos estado escuchando con atención todos los comentarios y queremos que el juego sea accesible a cada tipo de jugador. ‘Mercy Update’ es el resultado de las discusiones de nuestro equipo con los fans y los críticos, el perfeccionamiento del juego y la creación de nuevos ajustes con los que más jugadores puedan experimentar Gods will be watching a un nivel de desafío más cómodo.”

Depuis le 3 Octobre, plus de 200 familles dorment dans la rue de la Banque pour protester contre l'absence de logements décents. Français ou immigrés en situation régulière, tous travaillent mais vivent dans des conditions déplorables: le plus souvent à l'hôtel, ou dans des appartements minuscules, parfois menacés d'expulsion.

Le 14 Décembre, le campement de la rue de la Banque a pris fin: un accord a été signé avec le Ministère pour reloger, sous différentes modalités et délais, l'ensemble des familles. Après l'annonce officielle par Jean-Baptiste Eyraud, président du DAL, une fête a été organisée rue de la Banque, en présence de Emmanuelle Béart, Josiane Balasko, Guy Bedos et le maire du 2e. Vers 20h, l'ensemble du campement (bâches, matels, etc.) a été démonté, dans la joie et le soulagement des familles, et aussi un peu de tristesse à se séparer.

I recently purchased my first lens with VR. I bought it to replace one that I broke. Note to self: don’t let your *#@$&% tripod fall over with your camera on it. Going into further detail would just make me feel like a jackass. Anyway, this is one of my first attempts at shooting handheld using the VR. I’m one of those photographers who has a tripod surgically attached at the hip, so this is a stretch for me. The bumblebees were buzzing around the first open blooms on the bluebells, so I thought I would take a shot at it. I must say, I was fairly impressed. I took several shots, and the bees were in sharp focus in most of them. It was fascinating to watch them as they crawled inside the few bluebell blooms that were completely open.

On The State House grounds there are a ton of pigeons. People come here just to feed them and the squirrels. The crazy Bird Lady had just fed the animals birdseed and peanuts before the crazy Camera lady showed up. Giggle.

Anyway Someone walked up and scared the flock into flight so I turned and hit the shutter. I think its a cool catch altho it does make me kinda dizzy. So I learned that if I stamped my foot at the pigeons they would fly off to the adjacent building. Then I discovered that if I picked up a handfull of peanuts and tossed them onto the pavement the birds would fly toward me.....Hmmmm Theres gold in knowing that. One day I might get a phenomenal shot. I did get a few goodies tho.

Stirling

Beautiful village in the Adelaide Hills

Located only 18 km from Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway, Stirling is a village and district of extraordinary charm. In many ways it captures the essence of the Adelaide Hills. Being quite unlike the typical Australian town it is middle class in temper, European in vegetation, and Mediterranean in its ambience.

The township came into existence as a very conscious act of real estate selling. In 1854 Peter Prankerd, a close friend of the South Australian politician, Edward Stirling, laid out the town (he named it after his friend) and on 27 February, 1854 the firm of Samson, Wicksteed & Co auctioned the lots with the advertisement that the area 'approximated to the spring temperature of our native land'.

At the time Stirling had natural advantages as the area around it was ideal for market gardening and orchards and the route running through the village was the main road through the Adelaide Hills.

Today Stirling is by-passed by the South Eastern Freeway. Consequently it has been left as a delightful, elegant small village in the hills

Ok first off, i know, yo-yo's are fun. They're a great toy and have been around for ages, and if you can do any of the "trick" that a yo-yo is capable of; you're a God among men.

thats with a real yo-yo. Duncan, Butterflys, etc. made of wood, with a good thick string.

this is not one of those.

first off i should point out i DID NOT cut the string short on this. thats exactly how it came. i did some research and apparently a yo-yo's string length are supposed to be the "distance from your bellybutton to the ground"

im 6"3 and this aint cuttin it, i cant even imagine anyone ever having fun with this.

you're not gonna do the Eiffel Tower, attempting the loop-to-loop is clearly a joke, and you damn sure can forget walking the dog.

yes, yo-yos are great.

Arcade Prize yo-yos are a no-no.

Fun Rating: 1.5 out of 5 tickets (due to string length and weight of the cheap plastic)

The Reed's Santa Fe House on Don Gaspar back in 1937 by Marti Reed

My dad moved with his mom and new stepfather to Santa Fe in 1933, when he was nine. Eventually they moved into this house, on Don Gaspar, about a mile south of the Capital. At the time, it was the southernmost house in Santa Fe. According to him, he could see all the way to Albuquerque.

My dad was lucky~

My grandfather didn't believe in owning things, especially real estate. So he never bought this house, and, eventually the Reeds didn't live there, anymore.

The house is still there. The last time I drove by, about four years ago, it was the least fixed-up house in what is probably a multi-million dollar neighborhood. I always wanted to get it back, but not so much, anymore. Still, something in me really loves this house. It's a beautiful house.

Scanned from one of many old tiny but exquisite black and white photos that somebody in my family took. I'm slowly contemplating the idea of rescanning this photo at a higher resolution and digitally editing it very carefully, something I didn't do when I did these the first time.

Today (Monday, November 30, 2009), is the second anniversay of my dad's passing. I decided to honor him a litte bit over the next few months by fixing up and sharing some photos of his extremely interesting life.

A family of Francois' Langurs high up in the trees on the Malayan tapir island in the Lied Jungle, the world's largest indoor rainforest and a "total immersion experience" at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. I love how this rare species sport wild mohawks.

And it is a rare species. According to a wikipedia:

There has been a dramatic decline in the population size by approximately 85% since [1990], making this species that of very high priority to potential extinction. The total number of wild individuals is unknown, but there are believed to be less than 500 left in Vietnam and 1,400-1,650 in China. There are only about 60 langurs in captivity in North American zoos.

And wikipedia further informs us that the baby's name is GinLu and:

she was was born in the Lied Jungle at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo [in September 2009]. After being rejected by her mother, Lied Jungle keepers worked for several weeks to teach the mother to feed and care for her properly. It was important to have a special holding area for mother and infant for safety, ensuring the family was within sight and smell at all times. Mother and infant needed to be strongly bonded before placing the group together. By October 13, 2009, the entire group was reunited into one holding area.

As wikipedia notes, Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is "nationally renowned for its leadership in animal conservation and research." And from the zoo's website:

The major purpose of the Lied Jungle is not only recreation, but education and conservation awareness. Rainforests play a vital role in the quality of life on earth. They are disappearing at the alarming rate of 50-100 acres a minute. That's an area the size of Massachusetts each year.

Well I'm recovering at home from my wrist operation, it's really sore so I'm not moving far from the house (had a bone graft from my hip so mobility is non existant).

I noticed there were lots of IR pics popping up on flickr and I've wanted to try for AGES so as the weather was ideal and I had nowt better to do, thought I'd give it a whirl. The garden ain't the most exciting subject but it has tons of green and it meant I didn't have to travel. Perfect.

My R72 filter has a 58mm diameter so I borrowed my dad's kit lens and took a few snaps. There was a horrible hot spot which I did my best to remove in PP and I wanted the effect of IR film so I converted to mono, added a little grain and a slight vignette in Photoshop.

Le 20 Octobre, une "journée nationale de la solidarité avec les étrangers" a été organisée pour protester contre le projet de loi Hortefeux sur l'immigration et sa disposition controversée sur les tests ADN. A l'appel de 3 associations (RESF, le collectif Uni(e)s contre une immigration jetable - UCIJ- et les Collectifs des sans-papiers d'Ile-de-France - CSP), des manifestations ont rassemblées dans une quarantaine de villes françaises des milliers de participants, dont 4000 à Paris (1500 selon la police) entre Belleville et Palais Royal.

Ici, place de la République, les différentes personnalités en tête de la manifestation, incluant Arlette Laguiller, porte-parole de Lutte Ouvrière, Jean-Pierre Dubois, président de la Ligue des droits de l'Homme (LDH), ou encore Jean-Claude Amara, porte-parole de l'association Droits devant.

Capsicum annuum es el nombre científico de una solanácea nativa de América. Se conoce con los nombres de chile (nahuatlismo de chilli), ají y pimiento. El pimentón es la pulverización del pimiento seco.

Esta especie es cultivada mundialmente, siendo originaria de Mesoamérica, donde fue domesticada y donde se encuentran variedades silvestres, como la conocida popularmente con el nombre de chiltepín, chile soltero o chile loco.

Es una especie del género Capsicum y muestra una piel de diferentes colores: rojo, verde, amarillo, púrpura, etc. A pesar de ser una sola especie, el C. annuum tiene cientos de formas, con una variedad de nombres, incluso dentro de un mismo idioma. Sus características son variadas, de tamaños pequeños a grandes, de dulces a agrios, y de muy picantes a sosos.

Características

La planta puede ser anual, bianual, o vivir varios años. Posee una tallo lleno de ramas y ésta alcanza los 0,5–1,5 m. Sus flores son blancas y los frutos pueden variar de color dependiendo del grado de madurez en el que se encuentren; incluso algunas variedades suelen comerse cuando el fruto está aún inmaduro.

Mientras que la especie puede tolerar la mayoría de los climas, es especialmente productiva en zonas cálidas y climas secos.

Se trata de una planta de cultivo extendido por todo el mundo, es considerada una planta de huerta y generalmente se suele comercializar en diferentes colores: verde, rojo y amarillo. Dentro de esta especie se pueden encontrar numerosas variedades, generadas por diferencias en el clima, las condiciones del suelo, etc.

Dentro de las variedades más populares, podemos encontrar: * Morrón o ají morrón* Jalapeño.

Usos

Se emplea frecuentemente en la cocina, asados, cocidos, preparados al horno, etc. En el este y el sur de Asia se consumen frecuentemente y forman parte principal de su cultivo. En algunos lugares se emplea como medicina.

Principios activos: contiene capsaicina, esencia, carotenos, capsorrubina, luteína, cobre, vitamina C.

Indicaciones: es antihemorroidal (en baja concentración), antirreumático, aperitivo, revulsivo, rubefaciente, estíptico, afrodisíaco, estomacal, carminativo. La elevada cantidad de vitamina C que contiene se pierde durante la desecación.

não gostava de cachorros certo dia a Belinha fugio de casa

e passou para o quintal dela e fez coco e xixi na porta da

casa dela e ela ficou furioza com este ato da minha cachorro

parou de ir na minha casa parou de falar comigo e com a

minha mãe certo dia ela falou para minha viznha da frente

que colocaria veneno na porta da casa dela só para minha

cachorrinha morrer e no mesmo dia ela colocou veneno

e no outro dia a Belinha foi no portão o portão estava
