I'm so bored and sick of life right now. It feels like I am just living day to day to one day die. Nothing exciting happens in my life. I know I'm to blame for not making anything happen, but I'm in a rut. My mouth is killing me. I hate my hair right now, I want to cut it and color it, but I'm to cheap and feel like I've been spending too much money lately. I want to lose weight and be skinny and cute again, but there is absolutely no motivation to do anything about it. So I just sit here looking like a fat ugly ass, hating myself for being fat and ugly. I want to wear cute clothes and little tight jeans again. Or shirts without sleeves when it's hot. i brought my bike into the house so I could look at it and it would motivate me. I got used to it sitting there by the door, and started hanging things on it. I finally moved it to the garage. I feel tired all the time. I get plenty of sleep at night, but I'm so tired and my eyes are falling by like 4pm. So, I nap for a little. Then I stay up until past 2am. My house is so cluttered and messy, but it takes everything in me to just dust and vacuum. We eat out every single night, except when I get all crazy and will cook for like a week straight. I want to cook dinner every night, but I hate going to the grocery store, and so I just avoid it and we eat out again and again. I just want to be like Martha Stewart except I am lazy and tired and bored and hate everything. I always have "big plans" but I never go through with anything, ever.
I'm just sick of myself, and I want to change me, but I have no idea where to even begin or how to do it. Plus, like I said I'm lazy, and even if I knew how to do it I would be to lazy to do it. Basically, I need to know how I become unlazy?

Red-Billed Hornbills often crossed our paths during game drives. Unfortunately, their cousins, the Yellow-Billed and Gray-Billed Hornbills were far more elusive. This image was actually captured at the Ngala Safari Lodge, a track of land, formerly a ranch, and gifted to the World Wildlife Fund by the previous owner. The safari lodge, adjacent to Kruger National Park (and totally open to the park) is a concession run by &Beyond for the benefit of the land, the wildlife, and the surrounding community.
According to Wikipedia, the Red-Billed Hornbills are found in the savanna sand woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. This group of conspicuous birds has mainly whitish underparts and head, grey upperparts, long tails, and a long and curved red bill which lacks a casque. The sexes are similar, but the female has a smaller bill. They are generally large, at 17 inches (42cm) long, but are considered as one of the smaller hornbills.
a couple of months ago i mentioned that at the end of last year i entered into a couple of online photo competitions. from the first competition my beach soccer shot was included in a list of 18 highly commended images. the other competition was the sony world photography awards, and again whilst i didn't win, i did get a commendation. i'm prouder of this as the competition seems more prestigious and the numbers are more flattering. there were over 50,000 entries in the open (non-professional) competition, and my los torres shot was included in the top 50 (or from my count 34) in the travel category. in addition the other shots are all very impressive, so it feels good to be in such attractive company. i received an email today asking for a higher resolution version, as it's also going to be included in the 2011 Sony World Photography Awards Winner's Book. again i'd have preferred the $5000 grand prize, but i'm happy enough with a page in a book.

Santes Creus spirit born in 1150, when the Montcada family gave the first location of the monastery in Valldaura del Vallès. The first date, but in possession of the place of Santes Creus in the valley of Gaia we find the 1158. Given the jurisdictional disagreements between the bishop of the archdiocese of Barcelona and Tarragona, the monastery was the victim of a lawsuit that led to his secondment was free of any diocese. The main facade of the church, surmounted by battlements, XII century Romanesque doorway and features a large window with a Gothic. The plant is a Latin cross, is closed behind the altar and reredos, Josep Tremulles (seventeenth century), with a large rosette. Also has three sturdy ships and five chapels abacales, near the main altar are located the tombs of Pere II the Great (thirteenth century) on the one hand, and of James II and Blanche d'Anjou (XV century) on the other. The monastery converted into a royal pantheon by the first of these kings was fortified during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The monastery preserves two cloisters, the tourist entry replacement is Gothic and Romanesque previous one, which is the only temple of the washing.

Only available here and only for a limited time!!
From a frozen ice cave deep within the Applachian Mountains....here come the Polar Skull Bunnies! They are just as cute but so much more rare than other Skull Bunnies. They love the cold and snow so they only come out in the winter. Their polka dot & lavendar fur keeps them warm during their chilly frolicks. But for the rest of the year they hide in their cave, so catch one while you can!
These bunnies are LIMITED EDITION, which means THEY WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME! Of course, being limited edition means they also come with a signed & numbered tag from Spooky Daddy himself.
But just like their cousins the regular Skull Bunnies each one is handmade out of super soft fleece with spooky love and attention to detail.
Since they are handmade no 2 are ever exactly the same. But they all are approx. 11 inches and filled with squishy polyfill. The eyes and faces are carefully machine sewn for duriblity.
If your Skull Bunny gets dirty don't worry you can easily spot clean them with a wet washcloth. Or if they get absolutely filthy just tie them up in a pillow case and toss them in the washer on a cold gentle cycle. And then dry them on low and they will be good and spooky as new and smellin real nice!
While awaiting the arrival of your new pal, you may choose to prepare for him. Here's a handy list of things you can do:
1.) Be sure to have a dark spot for him to hide in when he's feeling shy.
2.) Also, provide him with a nice sunny spot to frolick in when he's feeling peppy. You should also remember that he will only frolick when he's alone, so the sunny spot should be left attended for one half-to one hour per day.
3.) Provide some fake snow (or salt will work in a pinch) to recreate his natural habitat. HOWEVER, IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED AGAINST PLACING YOUR SKULL BUNNY IN A MAYONNAISE JAR. I know it'd a little snow globe but please resist the urge to contain his cuteness. He will thank you for it.
4.) Stop vacuuming underneath your bed. Your Skull Bunny will roam late at night, scouring your home for cookie crumbs (which are his sole source of sustinance.) Also, if you do not eat cookies near or in your bed, you should begin this practice 1-2 days prior to your Skull Bunny's arrival.
Taking these steps will ensure you and your Skull Bunny have a happy, harmoniously spooky life together!

aunque, gracias a Dios,
yo no soy creyente,
con lo que una ha visto,
y que Dios me perdone,
no hay que ser muy lista.
Pa mí… Jesucristo
el primer comunista.
Como te digo una “co” te digo la “o”
¿Y las religiones?
Ponme una de cada,
que están rebajadas
en el Corte Inglés.
¿Y cual es la mejor?
Mire usted, la mía,
porque es de cajón
que algo tiene que haber.
Llámalo equis,
me parece bien.
Llámalo energía,
mejor todavía
¿Y los curas?
esos ni en pintura
¿Y el tarot, y la astrología?
me los hice ayer en la peluquería
¿Y el dinero?
el único Dios verdadero
¿Y Lutero y Buda y Mahoma?
con su pan se lo coman
¿Y qué opinas del Papa de Roma?
ese… un particular.
¿Pero a ti qué te voy a contar?
Fíjate que yo,
sin ser socialista
de las de carné
y hasta aquí del GAL
y de la corrupción,
que sí, que existió,
una mala gripe
que había que pasar,
pero te decía, como mi Felipe
pa mí que no hay dos,
y si no, tú misma,
porque el del bigote
no tiene carisma,
Como te digo una “co” te digo la “o”...

The great thing about Wales is that all trails lead to a pub.
And because I'm not too good on my feet at the moment,,,I'm tending to see more pub than trail.
Seeing as my daughter knows how to handle a screwmount Leica, I get to be in some of the photographs when she's around too. This shot looks like it's 6x6 format, but that's because it was the last shot on the roll, and for some reason the right hand edge got wrecked, so I had to crop it.
Of course, all the writing in Wales and the Welsh Language (like on the front of this pub) is back to front, relative to English, because we read written Welsh from right to left, like the peoples of The Levant, from whom, as Welsh people, we are all descended.
In the far West of Wales, in Cardyland, they often speak it backwards too, though this practice is slowly dying out as free schooling for children over 8 years old spreads there, thanks to the enlightened policies of our fairly recent and independent Welsh Assembly Government. Also, they wish to avoid the label of Satanism.
Unlike other countries, which either drive on the left or right hand side of the road, in our little but very ancient country, we drive on both, alternating between each side depending on the phase of the moon, and whether the month has a letter 'R' (written backwards) in it or not.
It's all to do with Welsh Druidism and the ancient rights of cattle drovers.

The Indian Peafowl, Pavo cristatus, also known as the Common Peafowl or the Blue Peafowl, is one of the species of bird in the genus Pavo of the Phasianidae family known as peafowl. The Indian Peafowl is a resident breeder in the Indian subcontinent. The peacock is the national bird of India.
The species is found in dry semi-desert grasslands, scrub and deciduous forests. It forages and nests on the ground but roosts on top of trees. It eats mainly seeds, but also some insects, fruits and reptiles.
Peafowl are most notable for the male's extravagant display feathers which, despite actually growing from their back, are known as a 'tail' or a train. This train is in reality not the tail but the enormously elongated upper tail coverts. The tail itself is brown and short as in the peahen. They are a result of sexual selection and are displayed as part of courtship.

CASTELLANO

During my lunch hour today I wandered down to the Water of Leith for some dipper shots. Got a few okay ones but mostly throwaway. On my way back to the office my attention was drawn to loud chirping in the trees at Belford Road and to my delight around 6 Long-tailed tits were hopping about. Out of the corner of my eye I saw two land on a nearby branch and one of them began hanging upside down. It took a second to realise that it was dangling helplessly because its wing had somehow got stuck. Now that I've scrutinised the shots, it would appear that the wing is literally glued to the end of the branch where some sap is.
The poor thing dangled helplessly as the rain started and the wind picked up. Other long-tails landed beside it and looked down in what appeared to be a show of concern. They certainly knew something was wrong. There was lots of anxious tweeting. Eventually the bird managed to pull itself up enough to start pulling away at its wing feather. To no avail at first, and I really thought it was going to end up dying there.
But the story has a happy ending as the wee thing eventually managed to rip its wing free, with minimal damage it would appear. I hope so anyway!
Does anyone know if this is a common occurence. I'm aware that tree sap is extremely sticky and could act like a sort of glue to a delicate feather but surely this kind of thing doesn't happen too often.
FGR : fruit destruction.
and GWTL : diptychs (wk. 46 revisited....happy anniversary!)
i had a lovely nectarine...i sat and i looked at it....trying to figure out what to do to destroy it. and then i got hungry...and i ate it.
so i opted for grape jelly instead.
i never realized how sticky that stuff is. i kept adding more and more until it was all over my face, neck, and chest. it actually just looked worse the more i added, so i ended up going with two of the more minimal shots. the end ones were just gnarly looking. i tried to lick it off and got some really goofy looking shots. and then i tried to take some off and shoot some more, but it wouldn't come off so easily so then i had jelly and bits of toilet paper stuck to my face as well haha. maybe i'll post a reject later :)
so it got EVERYWHERE...i was sticky sticky sticky after this. it wouldn't come off! it was pretty bad. i was hoping that maybe i'd discovered a great new skin treatment haha. i'm just glad it didnt stain my face.
i did feel a new kinship with jelly donuts.
so in other news. i got new light bulbs on saturday and was probably way too excited about it. but they really make a huge difference...especially since i'm just using my normal house lights.
oh and my work sent me to shoot a kids' fashion show on sunday. it was pretty much an explosion of cuteness. a ton of fun.
i'll probably post a link, if not the actual shots once it's up and running.
happy tuesday everyone!!!!!

'Collingwood Terminals' On Black
A few recent shots of the Collingwood Terminals building, a landmark from both the water and land of Collingwood, Ontario. It was a bright sunny day but with the wind chill, it was probably -30C. So cold that you could not work without gloves and I had to keep ducking back into the car to keep from getting frost bite.
This building has been the subject of much debate about its fate. At one point there was talk about putting a restaurant on top of it which would provide a spectacular view of the area, but the costs apparently did not make this feasible. A local paint store agreed to donate the paint if the Town would provide the labour to repaint the exterior. From a distance it appears white, but as can be seen up close, it is quite another matter. Once again, the labour costs proved to be too much and this idea failed.
Never the less, if you have ever driven into Collingwood on HWY #124 or approached it on the lake, there is no mistaking this landmark.
PS:
Story about the Town of Collingwood considering the sale of the Terminals to a group that would put a condo building between it and the water, leaving the south side as is.

A camel is an even-toed ungulate within the genus Camelus, bearing distinctive fatty deposits known as humps on its back. There are two species of camels: the dromedary or Arabian camel has a single hump, and the bactrian has two humps. Dromedaries are native to the dry desert areas of West Asia, and Bactrian camels are native to Central and East Asia. Both species are domesticated; they provide milk and meat, and are working animals.
The term camel (from the Arabic جمل, ǧml, derived from the triconsonantal root signifying "beauty") is also used more broadly to describe any of the six camel-like creatures in the family camelidae: the two true camels, and the four South American camelids: the llama, alpaca, guanaco, and vicuña.
The average life expectancy of a camel is 40 to 50 years. A fully grown adult camel stands 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) at the shoulder and 2.15 m (7 ft 1 in)[clarification needed] at the hump. The hump rises about 30 in (76.20 cm) out of its body. Camels can run at up to 65 km/h (40 mph) in short bursts and sustain speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph).
Fossil evidence indicates that the ancestors of modern camels evolved in North America during the Palaeogene period (see also Camelops), and later spread to most parts of Asia. The people of ancient Somalia or the Kingdom of Punt first domesticated camels well before 2000 BC.

I've giving in and posting this for 2 reasons;
[one] There's quite a few hours of homework ahead of me
[two] A story to go along with this
Went snowboarding today. As most ski hills are (midwest or otherwise) they are always tucked back in the middle of nowhere with windy dirt roads leading to a "mountainous" area. Here in Northern Illinois, that's exactly how it is. There is this little road I always take as a short cut and as I was driving down it, the clouds quite literally parted over this field. It's been flurrying with sun for the past couple of days so, yes, those little white dots are snowflakes. I immediately backed up the car and started *snaps snaps*. I figured I actually get out of my car to get a better angle but as I was walking up to the fence as seen above, I tried to hit the shutter and it did nothing. My little info screen read 'f EE'. So I stood in the middle of the road for a minute, somewhat paniced as my shiny new camera appeared to have pulled a Windows Vista (LOL). So I hop back in the car, grab my BlackBerry and get to Googling.
After I had driven off, I found somewhere on a forum that my camera was "frozen" and I needed to take the battery and the SD card out and let it sit for a couple days. HAHA YEAH RIGHT. So I scrolled down some more and came across another post that simply said, "check the aperture ring, sometimes it can get twisted or knocked out of the lock." And tada, that would be the cure :D So all ended well... except for my crappy snowboarding shots. They...well, they just didn't work out so well, so I leave you with this to ponder.
(not a fan, 48 more days to make up for it)
"The Venaria Reale site is a unique environmental and architectural experience of extraordinary interest. It is an immense, varied and imposing space where the visitor cannot help feeling drawn into the magic atmosphere of cultural attractions and amusements that were the pastimes of nobility.
Venaria Reale and the old market town represent a treasure trove of historic events and trials and tribulations. We sense this in the imposing baroque palace, with its vast gardens, one of the most significant examples of the magnificence of architecture and art in the 17th and 18th centuries. We sense it, too, in the La Mandria Park, one of the finest examples of European environmental havens where numerous species of both domestic and wild animals live in complete freedom, and where a significant legacy of historic and architectural wealth is preserved.
The new splendours and exceptional quality of the architecture of the restored ‘Reggia’ palace, the immensity and beauty of the gardens and natural spaces in the park allow visitors the opportunity to spend their time immersed in new sensations, savouring new experiences and enjoying the modern concept - accessible to all - of “taste”, “leisure time” and the “art of living”.
The ‘Reggia di Venaria Reale’ royal palace and the residence of La Mandria have been declared “World Heritage” sites by UNESCO."
Cape Town (Afrikaans and Dutch: Kaapstad; Xhosa: iKapa) is the third most populous city in South Africa, forming part of the metropolitan municipality of the City of Cape Town. It is the provincial capital of the Western Cape, as well as the legislative capital of South Africa, where the National Parliament and many government offices are located. Cape Town is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Often regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cities because of its geography, Cape Town is one of the most popular South African destinations for tourism.
Cape Town was originally developed as a victualling station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern Africa, India, and the Far East more than 200 years before the construction of the Suez Canal in 1869. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope. It was the largest city in South Africa until the growth of Johannesburg and Durban.
According to the 2001 Census, the city has a population of 2.95 million.[2] Cape Town's land area of 2,499 square kilometres (965 sq mi) is larger than other South African cities, resulting in a comparatively lower population density of 1,158 people per square kilometre (2,999/sq mi).[2] Cape Town is town twinned with Nice in France and Haifa in Israel.
Heres the deal: Today I tried to get an awesome "got milk'-esque portrait of me with a chocolate milk mustache because my mom randomly got a gallon of awesome chocolate milk for my brother and I. Before doing the shoot, while I was searching Flickr, particularly the Strobist group, I stumbled across this picture. I used it as inspiration, and once I gave up on the milk mustache thing, I just decided to copy this kid's awesome expression. Thanks to Thomas Atterbom for his spectacular and photographically inspiring image.

The Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata), or just Mandarin, is a medium-sized perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41–49 cm long with a 65–75 cm wingspan.
The adult male is a striking and unmistakable bird. It has a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and reddish face and "whiskers". The breast is purple with two vertical white bars, and the flanks ruddy, with two orange "sails" at the back. The female is similar to female Wood Duck, with a white eye-ring and stripe running back from the eye, but is paler below, has a small white flank stripe, and a pale tip to its bill.[2] The Mandarin ducklings are almost identical in look to Wood ducklings, and appear very similar to Mallard ducklings. The ducklings can be distinguished from Mallard ducklings because the eye-stripe of Mandarin ducklings (and Wood ducklings) stops at the eye, while in Mallard ducklings it reaches all the way to the bill.

Pancho y Tommy.
Pancho y Tommy. Mostly a Pancho’s request to have a photo to remember with his dog. I hoped to get something different, but this is what we got.

Take care, friends.
I’m running out of ideas and there’s not much time for shooting. My preoccupations are on another place. In fact, I think this is the last photo that I will upload in a while. I’m gonna be busy the next two months, but I’ll take some time to get into Flickr and comment some photos. Maybe, some upload will appear. Take care, friends.
It's time to get personal again. Long story, read if you feel like it.
I met my first boyfriend when I was 16; second semester of my first year in high school.
It was a weird story from beginning to end.
We met at a party in March, in a big old house out in the countryside. Some rich Scientologist hippy siblings lived there while their parents were on a long holiday in the US; I think they grew up in America. They always made me feel inferior because they were so pretty (a girl and two boys, all equally dreamy) and today their kids have weird names like Almond and they grow ecological wine and draw futuristic houses warmed up by solar cells. Anyhow. They were very nice and I wish them all the best, so it's not that.
Ok, so at this party were some students from "People's college", which is like alternative colleges in the countryside with alternative programs like "the Ireland program" or "the Venezuela program", I don't know, lots of Art schools and writing classes too. I later went to a writer's class like that for two years. There were some Art students there, one guy was really cute but he was quite a bit older than I (at least it was quite a bit when you're 16) because he said that Jimi Hendrix' and Janis Joplin's spirits "fought over his body to be reincarnated in" when he was born. I thought that was a 50 % cool and 50 % totally embarrassing thing to say. Come on, at 16, you're still half impressed by crap like that.
My best friend had a long glass bead necklace that broke on the dance floor so all the beads spread over the entire room and no one could dance before they were gone, so there was some pointless drunken drama about that for a while, and my friend was SO sad, like only a drunk 16 year old girl can be. I eavesdropped on a conversation between two girls with Henna-dyed hair while they were smoking, and one of them said "last night I had sex six times with my boyfriend" and the other said "nooo way!" and the other girl said "and I had an orgasm every time!" and smoked in a, eh, bohemian fashion, I suppose.
Someone put on a The Doors record and everyone went on the dance floor (now cleared from glass beads) and this guy that I hadn't even noticed tried to slow dance with me, so I jokingly went along with it, and then he whispered "come on baby light my fire" in my ear (yes, the chorus of the song) and I was like, ew, pushy AND cheesy! and walked away.
For some reason this turned into a big drama where he was made out to be this seducer of the young and innocent, because he was 19 and a freshman at college. I really didn't make it into a big thing, I was just not interested. He walked away with some friend and went "she hates me now!" and my girlfriends who knew him said he was really a good guy, blah blah blah. Then the party ended and we went home in the car with some guy who was lying in the trunk and quoted Hamlet (which I recognized, and I thought that was DREAMY): Goodnight, sweet ladies, goodnight goodnight. He fell in love with one of my best friends soon after, who was also at this party, they were a couple for 11 years or so.
So, two months passed, and the seduction on the dance floor continued to be a Big Issue. I can honestly say that a couple of my friends, and his friends, nagged me into becoming his girlfriend. "you would look sooo good together!", "he's the sweetest guy on the planet!" etc etc. So at last I was like ALL RIGHT THEN, and we met at some campfire party in the forest in May and kissed and then we were going out.
Seriously, it was BORING to be a couple. It was like we never had ANYTHING to do other than make out, and it's not that much fun after a while. He studied Philosophy and I read all his Philosophy books much faster than he did, in English, and wanted to discuss what I've read, but he just wanted to snuggle. All the girls in my class were sooo impressed that I went out with a college guy, and he was in a semi-successful band too. I admit that the social part of it was a lot more fun than the romance. It was cool to hang out with a bunch of older guys, 19-23. They went on tour and I felt like a real rockstar wife.
But at the same time I was SO above waiting outside while he rehearsed, or to "admire" his record collection (I knew a lot more about music than he thought I did. He was smug because he thought he was the one who introduced me to Sonic Youth, but he wasn't.)
I also had a pair of really awesome box-shaped speakers from the 60s that he kept nagging me to sell to him, and I was like, why the hell for? "You don't need them like I do!" And why is that? "You're not into music like I am!" Eh? It all boiled down to that I didn't need awesome 60s speakers because I was a GIRL.
Let's just take a moment here. Breathe.
Ok.
So we had been going out for a month, a month that was roughly pointless except for the obvious fact that he was My First Boyfriend. At one point he said he loved me, and I almost blurted out "Oh COME ON!" but I didn't. Then it all became this big "You never say you love me!" thing from his side, and then I went to France for a month. I had an awesome time and hung out with French punkrockers and English surfers on the beach in Biarritz, and did a million things my parents wouldn't approve of, and probably not my BF either. I actually almost got kicked out of my French class. Hm. But it was great! I walked barefoot to Jim Morrison's tomb in Paris! From Gare du Nord, I mean, not from Biarritz. I think like 20 men offered me drugs on the way, and at least one offered me his dick. Good times!
Anyway.
I called my BF maybe twice during that month, he said he and his friends were making tie-dye shirts to sell at festivals, and I said great. He talked about his band and I said great. Then I got home and didn't call him for two weeks to tell him I was home again. I was in the countryside reading Anaïs Nin and some other writers I had picked up, e.e cummings perhaps, and I was writing my first attempts at "real" poetry. So I was trés busy. I also got a part time job at a flea market, which I raided for all its black lace dresses and blouses, and a couple of old Adam Ant tapes. I biked for miles daily, lost a lot of weight and looked great, except I shaved off an eyebrow to test if he'd like me without it - and I sort of hoped he wouldn't. It didn't grow out for ages.
When I finally got back, he dumped me at a party. I don't know if it was the eyebrow or that I was never around, but I was relieved in which case. I remember clearly what I wore that night - a short orange skirt with many ruffles, a turquoise top, brown 70s wedges and a pair of huge 70s sun glasses. I had just dyed my hair with Henna so it smelled horrible, but it was very red, like I wanted. He got sick on a carpet, but I didn't clean it up, some other GIRL did, of course. :P
We never kept in touch after that, for the better I'd say. The weird thing is, he lives on my street now, but I rarely see him. It's a long street, but it's still kind of weird.
