1) The only animal in Pet stores that I would not own is a Ferret. I was attacked by a couple of male ones when I was 6 years old (family friends had four sons who thought it was funny to lock me in the shead with thier hunting Ferrets) and even now I don't trust them! They are cute, I understand why some people love them and I will be nice to your pet Ferret - THROUGH the cage!
2) I love Glee. I don't admit it to everyone, but I was in show choir during my year in a USA high school. We has blue sequined dresses, shiny tights and black tap shoes, mmmmmmm 1998 Iowa fashion!
3) I am terrified at the idea of making money off my photography. Its something I need to start thinking about to make back some of the money I spend on Camera and Computer equipment!
4) If I could live my life in a green forest surrounded by love, music and friends I would be the happiest girl in the world.
5) I have a temper. One that flares up instantaneously yet fades quickly, for the most part anyway. I dont hold grudges but fuck me over and I may not be able to forgive and forget.
6) I am in love with the American Apparell Bandeu Dress. I have bought three in the last year and now have Black, Teal and Forest Green. Im wearing the Teal one in this shot 3>
7) I have the biggest thighs in the world! OMG I used to think I just had a fat arse but now i realize its my legs, damn things.
8) I love Kiwi accents. I know that Australians are meant to hate everything New Zealand but it is the cutest way of talking, I used to pay my friend Erin to say "Six" and "Beer" when we were drunk cause it always makes me laugh :)

In the Button Factory, as part of the Yellow Lounge - a new concept club, which originated in Berlin, bringing classical music to a club environment. To start they had a DJ, Bernard Clarke spinning classical tracks. The Fauré Quartett were amazing...playing a medley of stuff from Schumann to System of a Down. Brilliant music, without the stuffiness of a performance in the National Concert Hall. Visuals by C-Division and 3-Pin accompanied the music. The idea dates back to the Baroque era where audiences were able to drink and socialise at performances. I was never a fan of the bit-o-whisht anyways. Great idea for a classy night out.

Observatory Avenue terminates in the heart of Ault Park - the fourth largest park in Cincinnati with its 223.949 acres.
Providing picnic facilities, nature trails, and children's play areas, Ault Park adds to its attractions with a splendid Pavilion and lookout point and beautiful gardens.
The Pavilion, dedicated in 1930 with ceremonies arranged by the Mount Lookout Civic Club and other organizations in Cincinnati's East End, has an entrance consisting of a broad, double flight of steps, between which flows a water cascade. At the top of the steps you see the Pavilion's artistic columns outlined against the sky. From the Lookout on the Pavilion roof you can enjoy a 360 degree view - many miles of changing vistas in all directions. You can spot, also, from the Lookout, the Little Miami River flowing in its broad valley where once flowed the Ohio River itself in the pre-glacial age. Ault Park, like Alms, was once a vineyard area.
Ault Park is named in memory of Ida May Ault and Levi Addison Ault, her husband, a former Park Commissioner who was prominently active in Cincinnati Parks development. The initial 142-acre tract in 1911 and 9 subsequent acquisitions were gifts of the Aults to the City of Cincinnati. Two other fractional-acreage tracts were given by W.E. Harmon and Paul C. Kunkel and others.

All-new from the platform up
Starting with an all-new "D" platform, Nissan lowered the engine, upgraded the front suspension geometry and improved the shock absorbers for better steering response and handling. The new engine location allows the half shafts to be mounted at equal angles to reduce torque steer, while a new upper cowl structure provides increased rigidity at the front-suspension mounting points. The rear suspension continues to use an independent, multilink design and antiroll bars are mounted at both ends of the car.
Base Altimas utilize 16-inch steel wheels with 215/60 tires, but 17-inch alloys wearing 215/55 tires are available on the 3.5 SE models. The 3.5 SE also features a sport-tuned suspension and larger antiroll bars. Much of the 2007 Altima's improved rigidity comes via the use of high-strength steel throughout the platform, as well as a 1-inch-shorter wheelbase. Despite these structural gains the new model is only 55 pounds heavier than the current car.
With a proclaimed engineering target of creating "the best performing front-wheel-drive sedan in the world," we had rather high expectations for the new Altima. What we got was a noticeable uptick in steering feel and feedback and an overall sharper, more nimble car. The improved front suspension tuning, along with the new speed-sensitive, power rack and pinion steering system, provides a precise and linear steering response that rivals the class leader in this area — Honda's Accord.

الحقوقية الليبية نيفين الباح لـ " وكالة أخبار المرأة " : حقوق المرأة الليبية تراجعت بفعل النزاع المسلح وغياب القانون

نيفين الباح حقوقية ليبية، ترى أن الانتهاكات التي تتعرض لها المرأة الليبية كالتهجير والنزوح واستمرار النزاع المسلح أضعف مشاركة المرأة السياسية في صنع القرار. كما وصفت الخطاب الإعلامي الليبي بانه خطاب كراهية وعنف وهو ما سبب في المزيد من التعقيد في الأزمة الليبية.

" وكالة أخبار المرأة " حاورت نيفين الباح وإستعرضت معها عن قضايا المصالحة الوطنية ومسودة الدستور القادم فيما يخص العدالة الانتقالية والاعتداءات التي تعرضت لها الحقوقيات الليبيات.
* احتفل العالم باليوم الدولي للمرأة هذا العام تحت شعار "أنا جيل المساواة: إعمال حقوق المرأة."، مقدما أرقام ومحاذير حول خوف النساء من الانتقام والوصم بالعار وانعدام المساواة مع الرجل. كيف ترين هذا الواقع؟
- حماية المرأة بموجب الدساتير والقوانين وحدها لا تكفي في ظل انتشار الفوضى والحروب، بل يجب التوعية والإرشاد بحقوقها وطرق التعامل معها مع آليات تنفيذ القانون الذي وفر لها الحماية سواء تحدثنا عن القوانين وآليات تنفيذه وسرعة الاستجابة أو الثقافة المجتمعية والعراقيل التي تواجه تقدمها. لا يمكن أن نحقق أي تقدم دون إرادة مجتمعية ومنظومة بيئية وثقافية وقانونية متكاملة قابلة للتغيير وإشراك الآخر.
تشهد مجتمعاتنا مراحل انتقالية استمرت معها فوضى مجتمعية ونزاع مسلح وانهيار كبير في المنظومة الأخلاقية والاقتصادية كما لا ننسى تعاطي المخدرات وسهولة الحصول عليها وانتشارها وقوة تأثيرها ومدى خطورتها على المرأة وظهور جماعات وايديولوجيات تكرس في مشاريعها الحد من تحرر المرأة وتقدمها مما ادى إلى حدوث الكثير من الجرائم الجسيمة في حق المرأة ووقوع الانتهاكات. فمثلا على الصعيد الوطني، سجلت الكثير من الانتهاكات والجرائم في حق المرأة الليبية نتاج بروزها ومشاركتها السياسية والحقوقية والمدنية وكذلك النجاح الذي حققته في مجال الإعلام، مما أدى إلى تصعيد العنف ضدها، ولم يتوقف الأمر عند الحياة العامة بل تتعرض المرأة بصفة عامة بعيدا عن السياسة إلى عدة انتهاكات من بينها الخطف، الاحتجاز والاغتصاب والتهديد بالقتل والتشهير ومحاولة النيل من سمعتها لأسباب خارج دائرة السياسة، حتى يصل الأمر أحيانا إلى قتلها. وعلى سبيل المثال لا الحصر تعرضت الكثير من الناشطات البارزات السياسيات والحقوقيات إلى جرائم على مدى السنوات التسع الماضية، من بينها انتهاكات وجدت صدى لدى الرأي العام الوطني والدولي كاغتيال المحامية والناشطة الحقوقية سلوى بوقعيقيص عام 2014 ، واغتيال عضو المؤتمر الوطني بمدينة درنة السيدة فريحة البركاوي عام 2014، ومقتل الصحفية نصيب كرفانة عام 2014 ، وكذلك الناشطة المدنية التنويرية انتصار الحصائري عام 2015 ، واختفاء عضو البرلمان الليبي في ظروف غامضة عام 2019 . كما تعرضت وافدات يحملن الجنسية السودانية لجرائم قتل عام 2019 ، وكذلك خطف الشابة وصال من بيتها العام 2020. بالإضافة إلى وقوع الانتهاكات داخل بعض مراكز الهجرة غير النظامية. ولعل التقارير الدولية والمحلية قد سبق وأن ادانت الكثير من الانتهاكات على المستوى الوطني الليبي التي طالت الكثير من النساء.
كما توجد جرائم لا تستطيع وسائل الإعلام ومواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تسليط الضوء عليها تقع في دوائر المجتمعات الصغيرة والمناطق النائية التي يصعب اكتشافها أو التعرف عليها نتيجة الطبيعة المناطقية أو القبلية. هنا لا يمكن ملاحقة مرتكبيها خصوصا عندما يرتكبها أقارب من الدرجة الأولى يتم التستر عن الجاني واخفاء الأدلة الجنائية خاصة إذا تعلق الأمر بالوصم بالعار أو محاولة الخروج من صندوق الثقافة الذكورية والسلطة الابوية.
* برأيك هل هذه الأسباب وراء ضعف المشاركة السياسية للمرأة الليبية؟
- بالتأكيد تسببت في تدهور مركز المرأة وتراجعها عن المشاركة في الحياة السياسية بالإضافة إلى عوامل أخرى من أبرزها استمرار حالة النزاع المسلح والتغيير الديمغرافي وعدم الاستقرار واستمرار النزوح والتهجير، وكذلك تدهور المستوى الصحي والتعليمي والاقتصادي وضعف أجهزة القطاع الأمني وعدم قدرتها على حماية المرأة والمواطن بصفة عامة. مع تدفق السلاح وتواجد المليشيات والعصابات المسلحة كل ذلك تسبب في ضعف مشاركة النساء في صنع القرار وإبداء الرأي.
* مع ضعف أداء مؤسسات المجتمع المدني، في مجال المصالحة. هل يمكن للقبيلة أن تكون بديلا عن المجتمع المدني؟
- في بداية التجربة بعد ثورة فبراير 2011 ، عول الكثير من السياسيين والحقوقيين على دور القبيلة الاجتماعي وضرورة اشراكها في عملية المصالحة الوطنية ولكن بعد خوض التجربة تبين عدم إمكانية ذلك، لعدة أسباب منها: أن النزاعات لم تتوقف بإسقاط القذافي ومنظومته. بل أصبحت القبيلة جزءا من الصراع فعندما يبرز أحد ابناءها أو ينشط سياسيا تجدها تصطف بجانبه فهي تنحاز دائما لأبنائها وأن تعارضت مع المصلحة العليا للدولة الليبية. كما لا توجد أية تحديثات أو مدخلات تتماشي مع النظام العالمي الجديد والمجتمع الدولي فلم تستطع القبيلة أن تواكب كل هذه المتغيرات وسرعة التطور، فحدث الكثير من الانتهاكات بسبب القبيلة من بينها قطع المياه والكهرباء على المدن الكبرى والحقول النفطية في محاولة للمساومة بها مقابل بعض ابناءها كما شكلت القبيلة مظلة للمجرمين الفارين من العدالة في الكثير من القضايا ووفرت الحماية للكثير من الارهابيين.
لا أرى أن دور المجتمع المدني ضعيف بل العكس تماما، فقد شكل القوة الناعمة التي احدثت التغيير والتأثير في الكثير من المجالات في ظل بيئة محفوفة بالمخاطر.
برزت الأنشطة وظهرت الشراكات مع القطاعات الوطنية والدولية وعمل أغلب أفراد ومنظمات المجتمع المدني على ملف المصالحة من سنة 2011، إلا أن ارتفاع صوت البنادق همش الرصيد الوفير للمجتمع المدني وما يقوم به من أعمال احدثت تغييرا فعليا في بعض القطاعات والمفاهيم والإدارات سواء بالتدريب أو الورش أو الاستشارات، وكذلك الكم الهائل من مدخلات المعلومات ولا ننسى ما قدمته مفوضية المجتمع المدني حتى الآن. بالتالي لا يمكن أن نعتبر دور المجتمع المدني ضعيفا بل هو الدور الفعلي للمرحلة القادمة على المستوى الوطني والدولي.
* برأيك ما شكل المصالحة التي تحتاجها ليبيا في ظل هذا الوضع المعقد؟
- أرى أنه لابد من التكريس لدور المجتمع المدني وما يحدثه من أثر في مفهوم المصالحة وشكلها خصوصا وأن الجرح غائر بين المواطنين فكل الأطراف تعرضت للأذى فلا يمكن الحديث عن مشروع موحد في ظل هذه الظروف. وهنا يلعب المجتمع المدني دور مهم في بناء جسور السلام والحد من خطاب الكراهية والتوعية بمفهوم تقبل الآخر والانفتاح على تجارب المجتمعات التي مرت بمراحل انتقالية صعبة من نزاعات مسلحة وحروب أهلية نجحت في اجتيازها.
* هل أسهمت وسائل الاعلام الليبية برأيك في حل الأزمة السياسية والعسكرية أم في تعقيدها؟
- على العكس تماما ساهمت وسائل الإعلام في تأزم الأوضاع بتأجيج الرأي العام ومحاولة تخوين الطرف الآخر وملاحقة الأطراف المحايدة والتوعد بالملاحقة لكل من يخالفها الرأي. في حين وصل الأمر إلى تأسيس خطاب الكراهية الذي يدعو إلى التحريض. فمثلا هناك دعوة إلى مقاطعة بعض السلع والمنتجات سواء المحلية أو المستوردة للتأثير على المواطن. وهذا أدى إلى تأزم المشهد السياسي والعسكري.
* الكوتا المقررة بالمادة 184 بنسبة 25%، لماذا لا يجب رؤيتها كإنجاز حقيقي للمرأة الليبية؟
- تتفاوت الآراء في ذلك. البعض أعتبر الكوتا انجاز لحماية حق المرأة في الانتخاب والبعض الآخر اعتبرها نوع من الألتفاف والتقييد بنسبة مشاركتها في الحياة السياسية ومخالفة لمفهوم المساواة ومحاولة اظهارها على أنها فئة مجتمعية تحتاج لحماية حقوقها. واختصار المشاركة في الحياة السياسية على فئات معينة تحتاج دائما لدعم ولا تستطيع أن تخوض تجربة منافسة منفردة ضد الرجل. رغم أن معظم دساتير العالم جاءت تنادي بالمساواة في عمومها.
وبالنسبة لي الكوتا (تمييز ايجابي) في ظل ما نعيش من ظروف عارضة وأخرى مستمرة تستوجب الحد الأدنى من الحماية. لا نستطيع أن ننسف كل المجهودات النسوية لمجرد المطالبة بمساواة نظرية لا نتمكن من تحقيقها مرة واحدة بل تحتاج لمجهود كفاح ووقت طويل.
* في العام 2017 تم استحداث وحدة خاصة بدعم المرأة في المفوضية العليا للانتخابات تحت مسمى (وحدة دعم المرأة)، هل هذا التخصيص يعد سببا في تدني مشاركة المرأة في العملية السياسية؟
- لا أعرف القصد الحقيقي وراء استحداث وحدة تمكين المرأة وبمتابعة شروط تأسيسها اعترضت الكثير من النساء على بعض هذه الشروط التي كان من بينها درجة علمية عليا، متناسية الخبرات والمشاركات والنشاطات وحضور بعض النساء في المحافل الدولية، حيث تجاهلت الاستفادة من كل هذه الخبرات.
السؤال الذي يبقي مفتًوحا ولا يمكن الإجابة عليه هو: هل استطاعت وحدة تمكين المرأة إحداث أثر وتغيير حقيقي في وضع المرأة؟ الإجابة أنها اختزلت في فئة معينة تسببت في عرقلة الكثير من المناضلات النساء اللاتي لهن القدرة الفعلية على المشاركة بالعملية السياسية وصناعة القُرار. نحتاج إلى الوقت والجهد للتمكين، وأرى شخصيا أنه ليس بالضرورة من خلال وحدة التمكين. هناك مجهودات فردية وأخرى جماعية منظمة أفضل بكثير من استحداث وحدة تمكين تكون تابعة لأهواء السياسة وتنفذ إرادتها.
* يرى الكثير أن تأخر العدالة الانتقالية في ليبيا بسبب الفكر القبلي خاصة وأن قانون العدالة الانتقالية حسب المادة 81 في مسودة الدستور الصادرة عام 2017، يحتاج إلى مراجعة ومزيد من التوضيح. لماذا برأيك؟
- فيما يتعلق بالعدالة الانتقالية لم يكن الفكر القبلي عارض إذ لم تكن المطالبة بها مطلبا شعبيا أو وطنيا حينها، إلى جانب استمرار المرحلة الانتقالية وحالة النزاع المسلح والأحداث المتعاقبة، وانحراف المسار الديمقراطي، وجاءت غير شاملة فكرة جبر الضرر، ولجنة تقصي الحقائق لم تمثل فيها المرأة والشباب وباقي الفئات، كما أنها كانت حق أريد بها باطل حينها فقد استهدفت بعض الشخصيات لمنعهم من المشاركة في صنع القرار واستبعادهم بشكل مجحف.
رغم حجم الانتهاكات الذي خلفه النظام الجماهيري إلا أن الانتهاكات اللاحقة واستيفاء الحق بالذات والجرائم المستمرة لم تستطيع السلطات الحد منها أو القدرة على معالجتها، أضف إلى عدم الاستقرار، وعدم شمولها على اصلاح وتطوير المؤسسات خصوصا الأمنية التي كانت سببا من أسباب الانتفاضة، وتكريسها لمفهوم الإفلات من العقاب بصورة علنية، وغياب مبدأ إشراك الضحايا، وغياب الإرادة الوطنية المحايدة، ثم جاء بعد ذلك كله، قرار العفو من مجلس النواب الليبي الذى نسف كل المجهودات لاعتبارات سياسة وليست وطنية، ما تسبب في الإفلات من العقاب، وكردة فعل بين الأقطاب المتصارعة، وبذلك أهدرت الكثير من الحقوق بسب الصراع السياسي وردود الأفعال غير المسؤولة من صُناع القرار.
أما فيما يخص مسودة الدستور، فقد جاءت دسترة العدالة الانتقالية أسوة بمناهج الدساتير الحديثة المتبعة في بعض دول الجوار بتوصيات الأمم المتحدة ولكن رغم المحاولات والوقوف على تجارب بعض الدول إلا أنها كضمان للحقوق وتكريس العدل وغاب عنها توفير الضمانات لتحقيقها أو التدابير الوقائية الرادعة لعدم تكرار ارتكاب الجرائم، ولم تتطرق إلى اصلاح وتطوير المؤسسات وأن اشارت له، الأمر الذي نحتاج معه إلى توضيح مفصل وأكثر دقة وإلا سيكون النص المتعلق بالعدالة الانتقالية مبهم وغير واضح.

I was walking alongside the "Leuvense Vaart" canal ,(Leuven is a city in the flemish part of belgium hence the name "Leuvense Vaart" means "canal from Leuven" in Flemish/Dutch ) in the direction of the subburb "Battel" , in the city of Malines (Mechelen) Belgium, and noticed this old, apparently Islamic, woman sitting on one of the benches alongside the canal.I felt a great need and urge to photograph her especially because of the whole scene, the light, the woman's composure....I carefully approached her and began to talk to her, she spoke a little Flemish/Dutch and managed to tell me why she was resting there.She had been suffering from a pneumonic or a heart condition and was feeling short of breath.She complained that she had great difficulty of breathing normally and hence found it hard to walk around.

Blackmore's Night is a Renaissance-inspired folk rock band led by Ritchie Blackmore (electric guitar and acoustic guitar) and Candice Night (lyricist and lead vocals).
The origins of the band lie in 1990 when Candice Night was working at a local New York rock music radio station. She first encountered Ritchie Blackmore, then with Deep Purple, at a soccer game in which he was playing. The two became romantically involved and discovered that they shared a passionate interest in the Renaissance.
After leaving Deep Purple in 1993 and recording the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed backing vocals and some of the lyrics, Blackmore became interested in the idea of bringing Renaissance music to a contemporary audience. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as "frontwoman." In 1997 the pair were ready to launch the band, the name being a pun of their own names, and which would consist of themselves plus session musicians.
Their debut album Shadow of the Moon was an instant success, particularly in Europe. In subsequent albums, particularly Fires at Midnight, there was an increased incorporation of rock guitar into the music, whilst maintaining a folk rock direction. Over time, Candice Night has increasingly participated instrumentally as well as singing the vocals, and is competent in a wide variety of Renaissance instruments.
The group performs at Renaissance fairs and Renaissance Festivals, as well as in stand-alone concert tours in appropriate venues including 'castle tours' of Europe, where they perform in historic surroundings for an audience dressed largely in period costume. The band has been successful enough to inspire a number of international tribute bands including: Renaissance Night and the Italian Morning Star.
They have also performed the music for MagiQuest, a live simulation game located internationally. In 2006, Candice performed a duet with Andi Deris on Helloween's "Light The Universe", which was released as a single in certain countries and is available on their album Keeper Of The Seven Keys - The Legacy, released in the same year. A new album is due to release in June 2008, called Secret Voyage.

Traveling smack-dab into the middle of the Norinaga/Rebel war.. the awkwardness is immediate.. as the guys charge in full Samurai armor on war horses at the Rebel's direction.
Poor Mikey has it the worse.. as the time jump sets him in the saddle of the Guard's horse backwards into battle.. and even sends the horse off with Mikey ..leaving the 3 other brothers to fend for themselves until they are reunited later.

Thaipusam actually celebrates the birthday of the Hindu deity Subramaniam. On this occasion, Hindus show the sincerity of their faith. It is a time for making and fulfilling vows. Devotees pray for divine help and make vows. When their prayers are answered, they fulfil their vows.
To do this, a devotee would pierce his cheeks, tongue, face or other suitable body parts with sharp objects. Next his friends or relatives load a *kavadi on his shoulder. Finally, in a trance-like manner, he goes on a 4km journey of faith.
Others, including young children, might join the procession carrying only milk pots. The Thaipusam Singapore procession starts at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on Serangoon Road and ends at the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple on Tank Road.
At first look, one might think that the festival starts at one temple and ends at another. Not so. Many of the devotees start fasting a month before the Thaipusam Singapore festivities. Others fast a week. Yet others three days.
A Hindu friend said this to me, "If you are going to put a 12-inch skewer through your cheeks and a hundred spikes in your chest, you'd better take your fast seriously!"
* A kavadi is a cage-like structure carried by devotees during the Thaipusam Festival.
It is traditionally decorated with peacock feathers and aluminium plates which show images of Hindu deities. Sharp spikes criss-cross its lower section.
An elaborate kavadi might weigh up to 15kg! It is quite something just to lift it. But these chaps I saw actually walked with them for 4km - kavadis, skewers, hooks, spikes and all!
Some of them even skipped and danced with their kavadis. Either they have great endurance or they have some supernatural help.
An old grocery store occupied by a spanish speaking gentleman located in the "hoogstraat" or "rue haute" in the old city quarter known as "De Marollen" or "Les Marolles" (in French) (the name Hoogstraat means Highstreet in Flemish/Dutch).
I'd noticed this quaint little grocery store when I passed by and decided to talk to the shopkeeper and ask him if it was allright for me to take some photos.We spoke in french, talked for a while and I took some photographs.
Brussels is , in fact, the only major city in Belgium.I've always avoided going to brussels to shoot photographs partly because I was afraid it would be to overwhelming.It is ! But, as this is the only major city in Belgium with some international allures that's more or less comparable to say Paris or london ( on a much smaller scale though) it is here that one may find the most captivating scenes and images and fascinating people of all genders and cultures.
Up 'till now i've always gone out to smaller cities to shoot but now that i've tasted the feeling of shooting here I'm bound to come back many times.
This is the true HDR version of my previously posted Cowles Mountain Sunrise (see below), done using Photomatix Pro to combine 3 bracketed exposures (+/- 2). Trying to use a light touch, I used the tools in Photomatix to pull out the detail so as to look natural.

See '1957, Gapinge' On Black!
My brother R behind me, my sister N seemingly holding the horse (but in reality we can discern the farmer's wife standing behind the colossal front legs of the horse...)
It's 1957, the setting is Farmer Vos's estate in Gapinge, Zeeland. We're there on holiday as we were almost every year. This time we rented half the house Vos's son Wim lived in at Vrouwenpolder. That's how we got to go to the farm.
I loved it there and went back many summers. As a teenager I stayed at the farm and helped out, even made some (little) money but, more importantly, got to frolick in the hay (literally) with the miller's daughter from next door.
Landlife was simple. In the morning we went to milk the cows before breakfast (huge pieces of white bread with porc fat, called 'reuzel'), worked on the land afterwards. If it was far off, the wife or one of the daughters would come and bring us lunch.
Living was done in the kitchen. The livingroom ('opkamer') was used only on Sundays after church, and then only if visitors came. I slept in a genuine old 'bedstee', a bed built into a cupboard in the wall, with double doors to close it off in the daytime. I'll be uploading more pictures from Vos's farm over time.
I've written about those magnificent and impressive workhorses from Zeeland before. This here is a prime example! In those days they were still in abundance all over the place and famous for their strength and character!

My first attempt to do image filtering using the flickr API with a PHP script.
It first ramdomizes a list of all my groups an then checks the first 10 images in each group. I only show images that are favorited at least once and have all sizes available.
The API calls are rather slow. Therefore this script is not really suitable for interactive viewing.
The script itself is in the first comment. The function DumpArrayToTable comes from selfphp.com/code_snippets/code_snippet.php?id=56. I need it to figure out the arrays that phpflickr returns after it calls the flickr API.

Ahmed put out a casting call on Model Mayhem asking for a photographer to catch his martial arts moves. I answered the call and we set this up. It was a heck of a walk from the hotel I was in but it was very much worth it, we shot for an hour and a half and I have quite a few usable images from it.
I was very fortunate we had an overcast day, it only took a flash or two on 1/4 power to completely control the ambient light and make it look like we shot in the middle of the night, it was about 5pm.

A 60-foot granite monument, dedicated in 1932, is perched atop 90-foot-tall Kill Devil Hill, North Carolina commemorating the achievement of the Wright brothers. They conducted many of their glider tests on the massive shifting dune that was later stabilized to form Kill Devil Hill. Inscribed in capital letters along the base of the memorial tower is the phrase "In commemoration of the conquest of the air by the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright conceived by genius achieved by dauntless resolution and unconquerable faith." Atop the tower is a marine beacon, similar to one found in a lighthouse, that was installed to make the monument more "functional".
The tower was designed by Rodgers and Poor, a New York architectural firm; the design was officially selected on February 14, 1930. Prior to the memorial's construction, the War Department selected Captain William H. Kindervater of the Quartermaster Corps to prepare the site for construction and to manage the area landscaping. To secure the sandy foundation, Captain Kindervater selected bermuda grass to be planted on Kill Devil Hill and the surrounding area. He also ordered a special fertilizer to be spread throughout the area to promote grass and shrubbery growth and decided to build a fence to prevent animal grazing. With a strong foundation in place, the Office of the Quartermaster selected Marine Captain John A. Gilman to preside over the construction project. Construction began in October 1931 and with a budget of $213,000, the memorial was completed in November 1932. In the end, 1,200 tons of granite, more than 2,000 tons of gravel, more than 800 tons of sand and almost 400 tons of cement were used to build the structure, along with numerous other materials.

a couple of months ago i mentioned that at the end of last year i entered into a couple of online photo competitions. from the first competition my beach soccer shot was included in a list of 18 highly commended images. the other competition was the sony world photography awards, and again whilst i didn't win, i did get a commendation. i'm prouder of this as the competition seems more prestigious and the numbers are more flattering. there were over 50,000 entries in the open (non-professional) competition, and my los torres shot was included in the top 50 (or from my count 34) in the travel category. in addition the other shots are all very impressive, so it feels good to be in such attractive company. i received an email today asking for a higher resolution version, as it's also going to be included in the 2011 Sony World Photography Awards Winner's Book. again i'd have preferred the $5000 grand prize, but i'm happy enough with a page in a book.

Santes Creus nace en espíritu el 1150, cuando la familia de los Montcada cede la primera ubicación del monasterio en Valldaura del Vallès. La primera fecha, pero, de posesión del lugar de Santes Creus en el valle del Gaià la encontramos el 1158. Dadas las disensiones jurisdiccionales entre el obispado de Barcelona y el arzobispado de Tarragona, el monasterio fue víctima de un pleito que motivó que su adscripción fuese exenta de ninguna diócesis. La fachada principal de la iglesia, coronada por almenas, data del siglo XII y presenta una portalada románica con un gran ventanal gótico. La planta es de cruz latina, queda cerrada por detrás del altar y retablo mayor, de Josep Tremulles (siglo XVII), con un gran rosetón. Tiene además tres robustas naves y cinco capillas abacales, muy cerca del altar mayor se localizan las tumbas de Pere II el Gran (siglo XIII) por un lado, y de Jaume II y Blanca d'Anjou (siglo XV) por el otro. El cenobio convertido en panteón real por el primero de estos reyes fue fortificado durante los siglos XIV y XV. El monasterio conserva dos claustros, el de la entrada turística que es gótica y reemplazo uno de anterior románico, del cual sólo queda el templete del lavatorio.
Santes Creus spirit born in 1150, when the Montcada family gave the first location of the monastery in Valldaura del Vallès. The first date, but in possession of the place of Santes Creus in the valley of Gaia we find the 1158. Given the jurisdictional disagreements between the bishop of the archdiocese of Barcelona and Tarragona, the monastery was the victim of a lawsuit that led to his secondment was free of any diocese. The main facade of the church, surmounted by battlements, XII century Romanesque doorway and features a large window with a Gothic. The plant is a Latin cross, is closed behind the altar and reredos, Josep Tremulles (seventeenth century), with a large rosette. Also has three sturdy ships and five chapels abacales, near the main altar are located the tombs of Pere II the Great (thirteenth century) on the one hand, and of James II and Blanche d'Anjou (XV century) on the other. The monastery converted into a royal pantheon by the first of these kings was fortified during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The monastery preserves two cloisters, the tourist entry replacement is Gothic and Romanesque previous one, which is the only temple of the washing.

From a frozen ice cave deep within the Applachian Mountains....here come the Polar Skull Bunnies! They are just as cute but so much more rare than other Skull Bunnies. But just like their cousins the regular Skull Bunnies each one is handmade out of super soft fleece with spooky love and attention to detail.
Since they are handmade no 2 are ever exactly the same. But they all are approx. 11 inches and filled with squishy polyfill. The eyes and faces are carefully machine sewn for duriblity.
If your Skull Bunny gets dirty don't worry you can easily spot clean them with a wet washcloth. Or if they get absolutely filthy just tie them up in a pillow case and toss them in the washer on a cold gentle cycle. And then dry them on low and they will be good and spooky as new and smellin real nice!
While awaiting the arrival of your new pal, you may choose to prepare for him. Here's a handy list of things you can do:
1.) Be sure to have a dark spot for him to hide in when he's feeling shy.
2.) Also, provide him with a nice sunny spot to frolick in when he's feeling peppy. You should also remember that he will only frolick when he's alone, so the sunny spot should be left attended for one half-to one hour per day.
3.) Provide some fake snow (or salt will work in a pinch) to recreate his natural habitat. HOWEVER, IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED AGAINST PLACING YOUR SKULL BUNNY IN A MAYONNAISE JAR. I know it'd a little snow globe but please resist the urge to contain his cuteness. He will thank you for it.
4.) Stop vacuuming underneath your bed. Your Skull Bunny will roam late at night, scouring your home for cookie crumbs (which are his sole source of sustinance.) Also, if you do not eat cookies near or in your bed, you should begin this practice 1-2 days prior to your Skull Bunny's arrival.
Taking these steps will ensure you and your Skull Bunny have a happy, harmoniously spooky life together!
