We are visiting the witch-doctor.
Father and son.

The island is part of the Bismarck Archipelago and is often described as having the shape of a musket. The tropical island of New Ireland is long, narrow and mountainous covered by several mountain ranges and dense rain forests. For much of its 360 kilometers in length, its width varies between less than 10 km to 40 km, yet the central mountainous spine is very steep and rugged. The highest peak is Mount Taron in the Hans Meyer Range (2,379 meters). The island lies between two and five degrees south of the Equator.
New Ireland is surrounded by the Bismarck Sea in the southwest and by the Pacific Ocean in the northeast.

The announcer said Flash photography and led screens were prohibited.
At intermission I remembered that my Cam has stage mode. So I turned off the flash and the led screen.... looked through the viewer ant shot away. I didnt get a lot of great shots because the movement was so fast AND I didnt know what to expect having never seen the Nutcracker. I LOVED IT
I think I loved the first act with the party and easy to follow story the best. The rest was just absolutely beautiful fantasy.

I recently returned from a week in my home town, Omaha (for Fathers Day, the College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium, music, good friends, etc).
I spent some time in parts of the Lauritzen Gardens, the 100 acre Omaha Botanical Gardens.
Captured this guy with a 200mm telephoto (unfortunately he and his friends refused to fly any closer to the edge of the marsh for a better shot).
Sometimes what make me like a photograph are the smallest of details. In the photograph below of Waterlemon Cay it is the couple walking along the beach. Without them I don't think this photo has the same impact. There are quite a few people that claim the snorkeling around Waterlemon Cay is some of the best snorkeling on St. John. If you ask me however it is pretty good almost anywhere on St. John. I also want to mention a new web site that I am lucky to be a contributor and guest editor for. It is a new project from Stuck in Customs photographer Trey Ratcliff called HDR Spotting. Trey is using this venue as another outlet for great photographers to share the world of HDR photography with everyone. I encourage you all to go check it out and see all the great work being posted but be sure you have some extra time on your hands because you may find yourself staying awhile. Part of this project is selecting guest editors that review the submission and post the photographs they feel are some of the best out there and I was honored to be chosen as one of the first guest editors. If you have work you would like to contribute post a comment here on my blog with a link to your work and I will go check it out.

Love Me On Black. :P
"He (or she) has such a heart-shaped face." How often do you hear that? I hear it often enough. Think about it. Just imagine the bone-structure required for a face to look like that (nevermind the vampiric hairline that would be required :P LOL!). I know! I know! It's such a literal interpretation. But what else do people mean by that? That their face looks like a real, physical heart? Wouldn't that be even more grotesque? "Uh, excuse me, but I think your left eye has a myocardial valve dysfunction. Maybe you should see a facial cardiologist about that." I know. I'm being silly. And I'm just having fun, too. :D
I'll just say that this one's being sent out to all my FlickrFriends... with love (and a rather large dollop of silliness, too). :P :D
Seriously, though. Couldn't you just love a guy with a face like this? Hmm. Then again, maybe that's why women find Dracula so sensual. With a hairline like that, he would have a rather heart-shaped face, wouldn't he? (Oh, jeez. I need to stop. I'm killing myself! ROFLOL! I'm putting away the liquify tool, and the bad jokes, too. I promise. :P)
Happy Valentine's Day, my FlickrFriends! :D
FOOTNOTE: I was NOT smiling in this photograph. That smile is sooooo Photoshopped. :P LOL That's why it looks silly. This is the same photograph as the one previously posted. This is what the Liquify tool can do for you, too! If you're so daring. :P

According to Wikipedia:
Postman's Park is a small green memorial garden in the City of London. It is located between King Edward Street, Little Britain and Angel Street. It was created in 1880 from the churchyards of St Leonard, Foster Lane and St Botolph-without-Aldersgate together with the graveyard of Christ Church Greyfriars. St Leonard's had been a ruin since the Great Fire and was probably demolished at the time of the creation of the park. St Botolph's is still open and stands at the north east corner of the park. Christ Church was detached from its graveyard and is now a ruin on the other side of King Edward Street.
The park was the idea of the painter George Frederick Watts who wanted to celebrate people who may otherwise have been forgotten. Its name celebrates the postmen who work in the principal London post office and the former sorting office in King Edward Street.
A wall in the park has 34 hand-painted tiles paying tribute to everyday people who sacrificed their lives helping others. The hand-lettered tiles were made by Royal Doulton.
The park features in the film Closer - Natalie Portman's character takes her pseudonym 'Alice Ayres' from one of the painted tiles, as Jude Law's character discovers at the end of the film.
Langania village, Tantanua dance (mask dance) and the Sing-sing of the malagan people.
Sing-sing is a gathering of a few tribes or villages in Papua New Guinea. People arrive to show their distinct culture, dance and music. The aim of these gatherings is to peacefully share traditions. Villagers paint and decorate themselves for sing-sings.

Malagan ceremonies are the most large-scale and famous of the many events that take place within the malagan culture. They take place irregularly, and are typically large and complex events, taking several days, and requiring months or years of preparation.
While a malagan ceremony is always held in the name of one or more people who have died in recent years, it is not at all merely a mortuary rite. Many other interactions take place within the overall event, including announcements, repayment of debts, recognition of obligations, resolution of disputes, and many other customary activities.
Malagan carvings
Malagan carvings, now world-famous, are the wooden carvings which are created for use in malagan ceremonies. Traditionally these were burnt at the conclusion of the event; in modern times most are now retained, as the carving tradition is now only known by a few.

Lake Titicaca is a lake located on the border of Peru and Bolivia. It sits 3,812 m above sea level, making it the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. By volume of water, it is also the largest lake in South America.
The lake is located at the northern end of the endorheic Altiplano basin high in the Andes on the border of Peru and Bolivia. The western part of the lake lies within the Puno Region of Peru, and the eastern side is located in the Bolivian La Paz Department.
The lake is composed of two nearly separate sub-basins that are connected by the Strait of Tiquina which is 800 m across at the narrowest point. The larger sub-basin, Lago Grande (also called Lago Chucuito) has a mean depth of 135 m and a maximum depth of 284 m. The smaller sub-basin, Wiñaymarka (also called Lago Pequeño, "little lake") has a mean depth of 9 m and a maximum depth of 40 m. The overall average depth of the lake is 107 m.
Lake Titicaca is fed by rainfall and meltwater from glaciers on the sierras that abut the Altiplano. Five major river systems feed into Lake Titicaca. In order of their relative flow volumes these are Ramis, Coata, Ilave, Huancané, and Suchez. More than 20 other smaller streams empty into Titicaca, and the lake has 41 islands, some of which are densely populated.
Having only a single season of free circulation, the lake is monomictic, and water passes through Lago Huiñaimarca and flows out the single outlet at the Rio Desaguadero, which then flows south through Bolivia to Lake Poopó. This only accounts for about 10% of the lake's water balance.
(Wikipedia)
More magnificent that one can imagine, the famous lake of Titicaca is an awesome sight: silent, endless, deep, peaceful, quiet, dangerous... Here the view is taken when sailing from the town of Copacabana to the island Isla de Sol.

wins points for his version of "time is tight" and the "godfather" theme. the album was recorded in edgbaston - and is signed on the back by the man and his band.
"Keith Lloyd was a Birmingham based keyboard player who is known to have accompanied many top stars of the day as they made their way through the clubs of the West Midlands. The likes of Bob Monkhouse, Frankie Howard and Les Dawson all used Keith as musical director to their stage shows at some point during the late 1960s and early 1970s and Keith maintained a residency on the Woman Today BBC TV programme.
Unfortunately, apart from the information contained on the sleeve notes to his "This is My Life" album, little else is known about Keith Lloyd and his band, which featured Geoff Cox on drums, Barry Peacock on Bass and Mick Large on guitar. The album was recorded at Zella Studios in Edgbaston in 1974, and released on the label of the same name. This was owned and run throughout the 1960s and 1970s by Johnny Haynes, but alas is no more - Johnny having sold the studio to soft rock behemoths Magnum in the 1980s. During this time local Asian musicians were regular customers at Zella studios, and perhaps hundreds of traditional Asian recordings were produced there.
An early incarnation of Black Sabbath produced a 45 on Zella Records and a large number of aspiring beat combos and hard rock bands of the period are known to have made use of Zella Studios.

A short stop by the road. I took the opportunity to photograph the grass!
Grass flowers have always appealed to me.
I remember that when I was a kid, fog grass gave me terrible hayfever. It made me itch all over and my eyes ran so much that I could hardly see. Yet, I thought the grass was so beautiful that I picked bunches of it to take home to my mother!!
Now I'm happy just to photograph it.
Going through my photos recently, someone was looking over my shoulder and when I came to the grass pictures, they said, well there's some you can delete. :-O
I am glad to find plenty of people on Flickr who recognise the beauty of grass.
Here are some of my favourite 'grass' pics. No doubt there are many more... feel free to post a link to your best grass shot(s) in the comments box! :-)

A poustinia is a small sparsely furnished cabin or room where one goes to pray and fast alone in the presence of God. The word poustinia in Ukrainian means desert (пустиня). One called to live permanently in a poustinia is called a poustinik (пустиник).
"an entry into the desert, a lonely place, a silent place, where one can lift the two arms of prayer and penance to God in antonement, intercession, reparation for one's sins and those of one's brothers.... To go into the poustinia means to listen to God. It means entering into kenosis — the emptying of oneself." - Catherine Doherty (Poustinia: Christian Spirituality of the East for Western Man, 1975)
Ever since I was young, I've had a very special bond with my Grandpa Al. We decided when I was in my early teens that we were soul mates. Not in the way you traditionally understand that term, but in a way that we both understood. We've always been able to tap into each other's spirits in a way nobody else can. In many ways, I am just like my grandpa. I love to tell stories, and often times I run off on tangents that take longer than the original story itself ever would have taken to tell. I don't like people to rush me to my point. I'm proud. I'm passionate. I wear my heart on my sleeve. And it doesn't take much to make me tear up and get emotional. These are all traits I believe I've inherited from my grandpa.
Every year for probably the last twenty years, my grandpa writes me a special note for my birthday. He always includes some bits of wisdom. Perhaps a poem he wrote, perhaps the words of another poet. But he never ceases to pass along some idea to me that he believes (and rightly so) will help to shape me into a stronger, warmer, better woman. And every year I've tucked those notes away for safe keeping. I pull them out occasionally, and invariably wind up tearing up as I read them. But there are a few quotes that have stuck with me so firmly that I need not pull out the letters to be reminded of their sentiment. The title to this photo is an excerpt from a poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox that my grandpa included in a letter to me during my junior year of college. It pops into my head at the most obscure times and fills me with warmth, love and comfort.
I can't think of anyone besides my parents who has influenced me in the way that my grandpa has. I hope that I have become the woman he always believed I would be. My gut tells me that I still have a ways to go. I'm sure my grandpa will weigh in on this at our 4th of July barbeque this year.
One Ship Sails East
One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
'Tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

About this event: Anyone who loves "The Right Stuff" and "The Legend of Pancho Barnes" will love the old Flabob Airport (Flay-bob), a true gem that will take you back in time; and even though the city of Rubidoux (Roo-bih-doo) surrounds it, there is still an incredible feeling of openness here, and today's sky was 'majestic'! This was the airport's Veterans Day tribute. And the Pacific Battleship Center went all-out to show the Battleship IOWA in video, displays, and questions answered by (PBC President) Robert Kent and volunteers. Many visitors signed-up for membership -- 'plank owners' -- and made donations to save the last of the battleships ~ USS IOWA as a floating museum in San Pedro, California. If the LA Harbor Commission rewards the thousands of hours already put into this effort, IOWA will open to the public at pier 87 -- on the main channel of Los Angeles harbor -- on the 4th of July, 2012..... everything now rides on the upcoming Nov. 18 meeting of the Los Angeles Harbor Commission.

On the opposite side, there is land for sports and community activities, then some private homes on dead-end streets (cul-de-sac, the l is not pronounced) and a large grassed school yard. Saint-Lambert citizens are endlessly fighting the city to preserve these green spaces but we are slowly losing them.

don't go by its looks... this one is dangerous.. Spotted feasting on the wild berries in uttaranchal called 'Kafal'.
One of these bit my son at the start of the trip.. 10 days after that.. even today my son gets rashes on the body.. so if you spot one of these.. be careful.

Pollination is an important step in the reproduction of seed plants: the transfer of pollen grains (male gametes) to the plant carpel, the structure that contains the ovule (female gamete). The receptive part of the carpel is called a stigma in the flowers of angiosperms and a micropyle in gymnosperms. The study of pollination brings together many disciplines, such as botany, horticulture, entomology, and ecology. Pollination is important in horticulture because most plant fruits will not develop if the ovules are not fertilized. The pollination process as interaction between flower and vector was first addressed in the 18th century by Christian Konrad Sprengel.

Yesterday I was a bit sad. Several news on friends too early departed made me think about life in general, my life in particular. So, honoring my friends, in the name of life, I decided to look around. This one I got in Sta Cruz, a very special place where I have written in the past, where I plan to return to go on writing. And photographing. And go on with life. There, somewhere, everywhere. Life is one. One life. Your life. My life. Cheers!

The Pulaski County Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge, better known as the Big Dam Bridge, is the newest bridge to span the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas over the Murray Lock and Dam, and is open only to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The bridge is the longest pedestrian/bicycle bridge in North America that has never been used by cars or trucks. At 4,226 feet (1288 m.) in length, the Big Dam Bridge rises to 90 feet (27 m) over the surface of the Arkansas River and 30 feet (9.1 m) over the dam. The span over the river is 3,463 feet (1055 m.), with the ramps on either side of the river accounting for the rest of the length.
Everybody from Arkansas has taken photos of this place, so i figured I might as well do it too.

Foundation and expansion
After ascending the throne of Cambodia in 1181 A.D., Jayavarman VII embarked on a massive program of construction and public works. Rajavihara ("royal temple"), today known as Ta Prohm ("ancestor Brahma"), was one of the first temples founded pursuant to that program. The stele commemorating the foundation gives a date of 1186 A.D.
Jayavarman VII constructed Rajavihara in honor of his family. The temple's main image, representing Prajnaparamita, the personification of wisdom, was modelled on the king's mother. The northern and southern satellite temples in the third enclosure were dedicated to the king's guru and his elder brother respectively. As such, Ta Prohm formed a complementary pair with the temple monastery of Preah Khan, dedicated in 1191 A.D., the main image of which represented the Bodhisattva of compassion Lokesvara and was modelled on the king's father.
The temple's stele records that the site was home to more than 12,500 people (including 18 high priests and 615 dancers), with an additional 80,000 souls in the surrounding villages working to provide services and supplies. The stele also notes that the temple amassed considerable riches, including gold, pearls and silks.Expansions and additions to Ta Prohm continued as late as the rule of Srindravarman at the end of the 13th century.

Founded with the Life century by the Saint-Avit bishop, it was rebuilt in XIe and XIIe centuries, after being burned by the Norman ones. It is altered at the XIXe century by the addition of the bell-tower and flagstones of lava to replace the Romance tiles of origin. These flagstones were withdrawn since and the roof remade with identical of original, in tiles channel.
An important restoration campaign began in 2007 inside the church and finished at the end of 2008, restoration which follows those of the exterior facades and the roof. This work consisted in the cleaning of all the stones, the removal of the cement joints going back to the restoration of the XIXe century, the rebadigeonnage of the facings, the restoration of the boards and the repair of the glosses in order to return the church in the state where it was in 1900. The crypt of the church was not concerned with this restoration campaign. On Sunday, 7 December 2008 the statue of Notre-Dame of the Port was reinstalled in the church (it had been preserved in the cathedral of Clermont during renovation works), thus marking reopening with the public of the building.
In 1998 it was registered with the world heritage of UNESCO to the title/titre of the inscription of the ways of Saint-Jacques-of-Compostelle.
Its name comes from what it was built in the district known as of the “port”, in Latin “portus”, i.e. the place where the goods were brought.

Recovery of Liberty Bell 7
One day shy of the 38th anniversary (July 20, 1999), of Mercury 4's suborbital flight, a team led by Curt Newport and financed by the Discovery Channel, Oceaneering International, Inc. lifted the Liberty Bell 7 capsule off the floor of the Atlantic ocean and onto the deck of a recovery ship. The capsule was found after a 14-year effort by Newport and his team at a depth of nearly 15,000 feet (4.5 km), 300 nautical miles (550 km) southeast of Cape Canaveral and was in surprisingly good condition. Some of the interior aluminum panels showed deterioration but some fabric pieces, including Grissom's personal parachute, were perfectly intact. The recovery failed to answer some of the questions surrounding the prematurely blown hatch.
Liberty Bell 7 was recovered exactly 30 years to the day after man first landed on the moon.

It took a while to get the right framing here. I kind of wish I had fewer distractions around the entryway, but I like the contrast between the cold stone and the warm colors of the tree in the background.

This little cutie right here is Ginger (:
My other cousin's dog.
I was at the baby shower of ANOTHER cousin (yeah, I have many :P lol)
and she was sitting next to me, licking my hand.
So I said "Oh yeah? Think you're all cute? Well pose for me." and she did haha.
As you can tell, I loveeee photographing dogs/puppies (:
They just get to me (:
I'm feeling much better today despite my loss from yesterday.
So I thought i'd upload a cute little picture (:
I'm still a little "meh", but it'll be okay.
Thank YOU ALL for your comments. They're part of the reason I'm feeling good (:
Today's been great so far. Worked from 1-3 and I went to Target with my dad.
We had quite a conversation. We haven't talked in a while because things at home have been a little shaky lately. But today, I enjoyed our talk. I was talking to him about how I'm applying at Hollister, but how I was afraid they wouldn't hire me because of my fear on register. He began to explain to me that I must not be afraid. That I can do anything, I must just practice, He then began to relate that to my photographs.
And I was surprised when he said "You take very beautiful pictures. I was looking at them on the Internet the other day, and there was a few pictures in particular that made me think. They made me feel things I haven't felt in a while." I was touched. He rarely compliments my photos, let alone, rarely talks with me about my photography.
He then asked my relationship with my boyfriend, we pretty much catched up. which was great because I missed that.
(:
I'm going to church tonight! I'm really excited! I'll talk about that more on another picture hehe. (:
I don't wanna write too much in one description!:O
love you all.
