A b&w view of just a portion of Iguazu Falls from the Argentina side.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit this fascinating location, be sure you do both the Brazilian and Argentine sides. They are both very different and fascinating experiences.
Have a great weekend and thanks for looking!

night time city lights in Chicago... with a reflective twist...
so i am out for a walk listening to Micheal Buble on the hotels ipod that they let you use and i get back into the hotel and there is this guy playing the piano singing this Micheal Buble song to his girfriend... Chicago to me has always meant music... so it was kind of appropriate that i got the chance to hear a great voice sing a great song...
Haven't Met You Yet...
I'm Not Surprised
Not Everything Lasts
I've Broken My Heart So Many Times,
I Stop Keeping Track.
Talk Myself In
I Talk Myself Out
I Get All Worked Up
And Then I Let Myself Down.
I Tried So Very Hard Not To Loose It
I Came Up With A Million Excuses
I Thought I Thought Of Every Possibility
And I Know Someday That It'll All Turn Out
You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid That I'll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Mmmmm ....
I Might Have To Wait
I'll Never Give Up
I Guess It's Half Timing
And The Other Half's Luck
Wherever You Are
Whenever It's Right
You Come Out Of Nowhere And Into My Life
And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Baby Your Love Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Possibility
Mmmmm ......
And Somehow I Know That It Will All Turn Out
And You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid I'll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet
They Say All's Fair
And In Love And War
But I Won't Need To Fight It
We'll Get It Right
And We'll Be United
And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Being In Your Life Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Single Possibility
Mmmm .....
And Someday I Know It'll All Turn Out
And I'll Work To Work It Out
Promise You Kid I'll Give More Than I Get
Than I Get Than I Get Than I Get
Oh You Know It'll All Turn Out
And You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid To Give So Much More Than I Get
Yeah I Just Haven't Met You Yet
I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Oh Promise You Kid
To Give So Much More Than I Get
I Said Love Love Love Love Love Love Love .....
I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Love Love Love .....
I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Lumbier, Navarra (Spain).
ENGLISH
The Foz de Lumbier is carved out of the limestone rock by the river Irati at the western end of the Leyre range of mountains, at the foot of the Navarrese Pyrenees. It is one of the most spectacular gorges in Navarre, a landscape created over millions of years by the waters of the river Irati, which have left their mark on this sanctuary of nature day by day. The gorge was declared a Nature Reserve in 1987.
Lumbier is a narrow and small gorge, just 1,300 metres long, but of spectacular beauty. Its vertical walls reach a maximum height of 150 metres and large birds of prey live in the cracks and ledges, with species such as griffon vultures whose flights will accompany you in your visit to the gorge. It is also a refuge for foxes, boar, badgers and owls, and is strewn with gall and kermes oaks and bushes such as thyme, lavender and gorse that hang from the cracks, vegetation that is transformed into woods of poplars, willows and ash trees at the entry and exit of the gorge.
In contrast to many other canyons, you can walk through Lumbier along an easy track that runs along the bottom of the cliffs for 2.6 kilometres. The route was created for the old Irati train (the first electric train in Spain) that linked Pamplona with Sangüesa between 1911 and 1955.
The signposted path runs along the river and crosses the rock through two tunnels (206 and 160 metres long) that do not have artificial light. Towards the end of the path the route goes around the rock and reaches the remains of the Puente del Diablo (Devil's Bridge), which was built in the 16th century with a raised arch 15 metres above the river. It was destroyed by the French in 1812 during the War of Independence, and owes its name to a legend that says that its builder asked the devil for help to finish it.

CASTELLANO

Photoshop has a content aware feature that will allow someone to select something and then delete it. Photoshop will then recognize what the background should be and add soemthing in there that works!
i deleated myself from this...
it didn't fill it in perfectly, but i think that the fact that it is remotely coles and has all of the right colours is pretty impressive!
i forgot my left sholder, and idn't realize it, so...
yeah! i just thought this looked cool and interresting!
school is almost out, thursday is the last day of school,
and summer means lots of new photos! haha! YES!
ooh, and if anyone has any suggestions on how to work with photoshop, please send them my way! i would greatly appriceat some direction and help (on one i know is good w/ that!)
i might upload a lot of stuff early on in the week, but i am probably going to be spending a lot of time editing and getting the feel for how to do some nice edits, so probably just sooc stuff if anything next week!
i had the worst car trip of my life...i'm prone to panic attacks in public (i can't deal with crowds at all) but in a car, i've always been fine...i love road trips and driving everywhere...we've driven to the mountains dozens of times before, up and down steep hills, close to the edges where you could see everything below...
but, this time something went wrong...we were coming back home from Tehachapi, and recently i'd started to get nervous there so my dad promised me he woudn't drive through the mountains where you have to drive around the edges and see your death at the bottom...well, he forgot and while i was lost in my head listening to my iPod, i looked over the side and started to freak...
next thing i know, i've as much on the ground as my seatbelt will allow, i'm crouched and crying and shaking and i've pulled my hoddie over my head, my sunglasses on and my iPod is as loud as it can go...i'm clenching my cell phone so tight i have to drop it because i'm suddenly afraid i'll somehow manage to crush it...
panic came over in way i've never in my life felt...i thought we were all going to die, and go over one of the edges at the next sharp turns...i was unable to breathe and i just kept crying while my parents tried to calm, but it didn't help...and somewhere in the back of my head i was amused that i would die while listening to Jim Gaffigan do his bit on Hot Pockets on my iPod...
once we descended i was fine again, and i felt so incredibly stupid...i wasn't afraid for the rest of the trip back and haven't been afraid since...i just really hope this was a one time thing...
anthony and i were talking, and we think it came from my fear that something horrible will happen to my family and soon...the holidays are always really wonderful for us, but at the same time it's when family tragedy strikes the most...i can't help but shake the feeling of doom, but i'm determined to try...

I can’t stay away from black and whites for too long can I ? This is one of the very first photos I took on the safari and it continues to be one of my favourites. I mean come on, zebras crossing the road, zebra crossing? The joke practically writes itself! And boy were we excited when we saw these zebras crossing our path! Good times :D
To think about it, this was quite a mundane sight in the savannah; Zebras were everywhere and they were constantly in front of our vehicle. A couple of times we had to stop for quite a bit of time so that they could clear out. Now that’s the kind of traffic I don’t mind!
And also note the dust raked up by the safari vehicles up ahead. Note to all potential visitors- Amboseli is a dust bowl, and it will get in your eyes, hair, ears, mouth - everywhere. But you will be happy. That much I can promise.
I realise that most of you live too far away to be able to come along but on Tuesday 12 October I'll be giving a talk to North Cheshire Photographic Society about my photos: www.ncps.org.uk/pages/syllabus/syllabus.html
The talk is scheduled to last for about an hour and a half. I've never done any public speaking lasting longer than a few minutes so, as you can imagine, I'm a little apprehensive and I'm now regretting having agreed to the thing! :-)
For the first hour I'll be showing lots of my own photos using a digital projector as well as discussing the work of photographers who have inspired me, like our own Leeechy www.flickr.com/photos/leechypics/ who first showed me over at DPR that photography could be an art form, as well as the work of iconic photographers like Michael Kenna: www.michaelkenna.net/
In the final 30 minutes of the talk (after a tea break!) I'm going to be discussing basic tips on photographic composition.
Anyone who would like to come will be made very welcome!

Another shot from Sunday morning out with the Ramble with Amble gang. As i had took many shots of the groyne in my earlier post i decided i would head for the eroded outlflow structure posts up towards the pier on Blyth Beach. As i splodged back to dryish sand i nnoticed that it was very close to sunset and began running as its quite a distance across to them and also i could do with shedding the winter flab lol. Anyhoo half way there i was dying and as i turned the sun broke the horizon! Not one to lose an oppurtunity i thought what the hell and planted the tripod if not only to rest on it haha. I took 2 shots here at different exposures with some blending in mind. Back in Photoshop i have opened both exposures then unveiled the darker exposure in the horizon area using a 50& Opacity right on the horizon then faded it back with a 30% opacity either side of the central area. Ive had to drop saturation abit to try and control the sun (must get a Reverse Grad) and messed a touch with curves and an unsharo mask.
What a morning this was! Thanks again to all of the Ramble Posse for being so friendly and helpfull and sorry for uploading yet another Blyth shot as youre all probably sick of them haha.
Location i shot from... The 2 areas i ran between are at the very bottom to very top of this Flash Earth shot VVV :O

Steal my heart and hold my tongue
I feel my time, my time has come
Let me in, unlock the door
I've never felt this way before
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummer begins to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know which way I've come
Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone, someone who hears
For you, I've waited all these years
For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my day, my day is done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummers begin to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know what I'll become
For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my days, my days are done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

dici solo che aspetterai... aspetterai me
Nelle tue lacrime... e nel tuo sangue
nel tuo fuoco... e nel tuo flusso
ti sento ridere... ti ho sentita cantare
dici solo che aspetterai... aspetterai me
...reminded me of Dylan Thomas:
The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
Is my destroyer.
And I am dumb to tell the crooked rose
My youth is bent by the same wintry fever.
The force that drives the water through the rocks
Drives my red blood; that dries the mouthing streams
Turns mine to wax.
And I am dumb to mouth unto my veins
How at the mountain spring the same mouth sucks.
The hand that whirls the water in the pool
Stirs the quicksand; that ropes the blowing wind
Hauls my shroud sail.
And I am dumb to tell the hanging man
How of my clay is made the hangman's lime.
The lips of time leech to the fountain head;
Love drips and gathers, but the fallen blood
Shall calm her sores.
And I am dumb to tell a weather's wind
How time has ticked a heaven round the stars.
And I am dumb to tell the lover's tomb
How at my sheet goes the same crooked worm.

Full moon rises over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, CA.
A photo of Stephen W. Oachs inspired me to try and take a shot of San Francisco from a new viewpoint. So today Jess and I hiked down to Kirby Cove in the Marin Headlands. I tried to find a good spot to set up my tripod and shoot this panorama shot. I wanted to be a bit above the water so that the nightlights would get reflected in the water better. But also not to high up, so that the city remains under the bridge. After some exploring I found a promising spot that included no major but some climbing down a cliff...
At first I was a little disappointed because of the lack of clouds over the city (for some extra color). But then I remembered that tonight the moon is the closest to Earth for the entire year resulting in a 14% bigger full moon than usual. I chose this spot to snap a shot of the moon over the city and with a perfect full moon I didn't want to miss the opportunity.
The sun set and it got cold. I was a little worried about the climb back up the cliff in the dark. I had a flashlight, but I would need my arms to pull myself up the steep parts. I was just about to leave in order to still be able to use the last remaining light as I noticed the glow of the moon over the horizon (sooner than expected). A little while later I was able to take a series of eleven 2min shots to create this panorama. I think it was worth the extra wait.
I packed up my gear and with flashlight in mouth climbed out of the cliff.

New York is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.[6] The city is referred to as New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the State of New York, of which it is a part. A global power city,[7] New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. The home of the United Nations Headquarters,[8] New York is an important center for international diplomacy[9] and has been described as the cultural capital of the world.[10][11]
On one of the world's largest natural harbors,[12] New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a county of New York State.[13] The five boroughs—the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island—were consolidated into a single city in 1898.[14] With a census-estimated 2013 population of 8,405,837[4] distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2),[15] New York is the most densely populated major city in the United States.[16] As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York,[17][18] making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world.[19] By 2013 census estimates, the New York Metropolitan Area's population remains by a significant margin the United States' largest Metropolitan Statistical Area, with approximately 19.9 million people,[20] and is also part of the most populous Combined Statistical Area in the United States, containing an estimated 23.4 million people.

Ario and I were walking around Brooklyn Heights after getting some coffee and were in search of neat architecture. We were talking amongst ourselves about where to find some old churches, when a passerby overheard our chatting. He walked back towards us and told us that we had to check out the Lebanese Catholic church just up the road. We were fortuate to run into him because the interior of the church was absolutely stunning!
This cathedral was constructed in 1844 and was incorporated as a Roman Catholic cathedral in 1903. The exterior doors actually came from the SS Normandie, a french cruise liner which sunk into the Hudson River in 1942. The stained glass in the interior was actually made on site - they had a blast furnace at some point - by a member of their congregation. The interior doors were taken from a mansion of some sort around the turn of the century.
We ran into the pastor who told us all these things and more as we were admiring the interior, and was even kind enough to turn on the lights for me so I could get a better photo. I'm very glad we visited this place!

The Carnival of Cunit is the oldest of the region of the Baix Penedès as we understand it at the moment since it is being celebrated of uninterrupted way from 1988; they are practically 2 weeks of different playful acts and celebration that has like central event great the cavalcade of carnival.
The cavalcade is celebrated the Saturday of carnival and is headed by Her Majesty Carnestoltes, “king of insolents” and the queen of carnival and her ladies (chosen in an act celebrated in the middle of August of the previous year); behind them it follows to him more than 60 groups of krewes and floats of all Penedès and part of Tarragona with a participation in 2006 of more than 4,500 different people disguised of thematic. The cavalcade leaves the railway station and finalizes in the square of Catalonia (square of the Casal). The route of cavalcade has a length of 3.5 kilometers where they are possible to be reunited up to 30,000 watching people (as much disguised as not). At the end of the cavalcade most of groups they go to the Platja de Calafell to make another cavalcade there.
The midnight after cavalcade is celebrated the great dance of carnival where they are distributed the prizes to the best groups as well as to the more original individual disguises, balconies and showcases of stores better adorned.
Sunday is celebrated the infantile carnival infantile with groups of animation and a "chocolatada" for the assistants when finalizing the act.
The carnivals finalize Wednesday with the burial of the sardine, in which is made a small cavalcade by the town taking for a walk the body of the Carnestoltes and finalizes in the station where is made popular "sardinada".

The Taj Mahal ( /ˈtɑːdʒ/ or /ˈtɑːʒ məˈhɑːl/;[1] Hindi: ताज महल, from Persian/Urdu: تاج محل "crown of palaces", pronounced [ˈt̪aːdʒ mɛˈɦɛl]; also "the Taj"[2]) is a white Marble mausoleum located in Agra, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage."[3]
Taj Mahal is the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Turkish and Indian architectural styles.[4][5]
In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen.[6] The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision, including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.[7][8] Lahauri[9] is generally considered to be the principal designer.
Italia a Zandvoort
My stream was kind of dominated by Lamborghini's, after beeing at Italia a Zandvoort, but there were many beautiful Ferrari's too.
Here is a shot of a white Ferrari 430 Scuderia.
Serving as the successor to the Challenge Stradale, the 430 Scuderia (scuderia meaning "stable of horses", but also used in the context of motor racing teams, including Ferrari's own) was unveiled by Michael Schumacher at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. Aimed to compete with cars like the Porsche RS-models and the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera (superleggera meaning super light weight), it is lighter (by 100 kg/220 lb) and more powerful (515 PS (379 kW; 508 hp) at 8500 rpm) than the standard F430. Increased power comes from a revised intake, exhaust, and an ion-sensing knock-detection system that allows for a higher compression ratio.[11] Thus the weight-to-power ratio is reduced from 2.96 kg/hp to 2.5 kg/hp. In addition to the weight saving measures, the Scuderia semi-automatic transmission gains improved "Superfast", known as "Superfast2", software for faster 60 millisecond shift-times. A new traction control system combines the F1-Trac traction and stability control with the E-Diff electronic differential. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia does 0-100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds,[12] with a top speed of 198 miles per hour (319 km/h).[13] Ferrari claims that around their test track, Fiorano Circuit, it is faster than a Ferrari Enzo.
When tested on Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson said "It appears to have been welded together by apes", referring to the exposed metalwork. However, he also said that it was a knife-edge racer, which is how a Ferrari should be. He was deeply impressed with its performance, and said that it blew away any Lamborghini. When given to the Stig to take round the Top Gear Test Track, it completed the cicuit in an impressive 1 minute 19.7 seconds which is faster than a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (1.20.9) and a Porsche Carrera GT (1.19.8).
I spent the day at the hospital with my dad. It's strange, being on the inside.....I'm sure I used to see these scenes from the outside - some tired old man doddering along with his family. I don't remember what it looked or felt like when it wasn't so personal.
It was my mom's birthday - and she was in a horrible mood.....angry at everyone within reach for forgetting - only she attacked everyone before they even had a chance to wish her a happy birthday. I know it's her day, but that isn't an excuse to go on a rampage.
I love Portland, but my mother's presence has tainted the thing that I love most about it - the laid back attitude of everyone who lives here.
PS - Advice from anyone who has let their pro account die? Did you regret it? I just got the pro account eminent death warning....and I can't decide whether the money or the community is a higher cost to an unemployed artist. I mean, it seems like I would be okay with a normal account, or could change my mind with no big issue...right? Is there any reason that it's not an irreversible decision?

Maresme's territory occupies a long and narrow area between the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of Serralada Litoral (Catalonia's coastal mountains), and specifically Montnegre's and Corredor's hills in the northern half and Sant Mateu's hills in the southern half. This particular shape has conditioned both the geography and the history of this comarca. Probably the main distinct elements of its geography are the characteristic rieres (torrents). These short, intermittent water streams, which cross the comarca transversally almost every hundred meters, produce powerful and dangerous floods when it rains.
Canet des de els Tarongers
Maresme has been historically very well connected with the rest of the comarca as well as with Barcelona thanks to old Camí Ral (Royal Way) (actual N-II main road) and railroad (The Barcelona–Mataró railroad route, finished in 1848, was the first ever in all the Iberian Peninsula). Communications were enhanced in recent years with the construction of the C-32's Barcelona–Mataró section (1969), which was the first autopista (highway) ever in Spain, and its subsequent enlargement, the Mataró-Palafolls's section (1995).

Cathedral of Cologne
Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen
Germany
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Cologne Cathedral (German: Kölner Dom, officially Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria) is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Joachim Meisner, and is under the administration of the archdiocese of Cologne. It is renowned as a monument of Christianity, of German Catholicism in particular, of Gothic architecture, and of the faith and perseverance of the people of the city in which it stands. It is dedicated to Saint Peter and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The cathedral is a World Heritage Site, one of the best-known architectural monuments in Germany, and Cologne's most famous landmark, described by UNESCO as an "exceptional work of human creative genius". Cologne Cathedral is one of the world's largest churches and the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. For four years, 1880-84, it was the tallest structure in the world, until the completion of the Washington Monument. It has the second-tallest church spires, only surpassed by the single spire of Ulm Cathedral, completed 10 years later in 1890. Because of its enormous twin spires, it also presents the largest façade of any church in the world.
The choir of Cologne Cathedral, measured between the piers, also holds the distinction of having the largest height to width ratio of any Medieval church, 3.6:1, exceeding even Beauvais Cathedral which has a slightly higher vault.
Construction of the Gothic church began in 1248 and took, with interruptions, until 1880 to complete – a period of over 600 years. It is 144.5 metres long, 86.5 m wide and its two towers are 157 m tall.
Cologne Cathedral, despite having been left incomplete during the medieval period, eventually became unified as "a masterpiece of exceptional intrinsic value" and "a powerful testimony to the strength and persistence of Christian belief in medieval and modern Europe", as was befitting a worship-place of the Holy Roman Emperor and the traditional shrine of the Three Kings.

This photo was taken at sunset in Lincoln City, Oregon, USA. This is a beautiful beach on the Central Oregon Coast.
About this photo: We stayed in a beach apartment for 1 week in Lincoln City. When we arrived around dinner time at this place it was cloudy. After dinner we decided to go for a walk on the beach and at the end of the evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset as it started to clear up. What a gorgeous evening that was!
As the sun was setting I wondered down to the beach to enjoy the sunset and take some photos. At that point I remembered my "panorama" button on my camera and figured it was time try it out again as I haven't used it that much yet. I liked the results! I hope you do too! :)

Some information on Lincoln City and the beach: Lincoln City is nestled between seven miles of sandy beaches and a 680 acre scenic lake on the central Oregon Coast. And while it's a charming resort town, it's also a paradise of beauty, history and adventure.
The mighty Pacific Ocean greets the beach along seven gorgeous miles in Lincoln City. The beauty and activities along the seashore change with the seasons, adding spice and variety. There are excellent locations for wave, whale, sunset and storm watching, and the beach is a treasure trove for collecting driftwood, agates, shells and floats. Large rocks emerging from the sea create perfect pockets for tide pooling during low tides, and beach hiking, surfing, windsurfing and fishing challenge adventure seekers. Fifteen public beach accesses welcome those who wish to indulge!
The Oregon Coast is the coast of the U.S. state of Oregon along the Pacific Ocean, constituting the western border of the state. Stretching 583km/362mi from the city of Astoria to the California border, the Oregon Coast is unique in that the entire coast is public land. Oregon law prohibits private ownership of coastline property.
The Oregon Coast is often divided into three regions
•The North Coast—from the Washington border at Astoria to Lincoln City.
•The Central Coast—from Lincoln City to Reedsport.
•The South Coast—from Reedsport to the California border, just south of Brookings.
There are no large cities on the coast, mainly due to the lack of deep harbors with access to the inland agricultural areas. The largest metropolitan area consists of the bordering cities of Coos Bay and North Bend on the South Coast. This area has a population of approximately 25,000 people. There is only one continuous highway along the coastline, the U.S. Route 101. The relative isolation of the coast from nearby large population centers has given the coast a reputation for being somewhat rustic, being a mixture of old logging towns, fishing villages, seasonal resorts, and artists' colonies. Tourism, fishing and logging are the major industries on the coast. The coastal region's popularity, combined with the fact that there are only a few two-lane roads from the more populated areas in the Willamette Valley contributes to traffic to the north and central coasts being named the worst tourist traffic in the United States. Took this photo during my short 1 week break back in Hong Kong for my birthday. Big thanks to Euky who volunteered his own time in taking me to this location for the shoot. I was always fascinated by housing estates and the lifestyles which surrounded them even though I have never really lived in one myself. With the government tearing these places down in favour of newer public housing these places are really getting rare too. Hopefully this one lasts till the next time I am home for me to shoot it again. View On White

In fact, I "hate" those classical landmarks (too crowded)...but I couldn't miss this special one. A couple of weeks ago, my son david learned about the Romans in school and he knew a lot more about the Colosseum than me or my wife did. So it was quite a big deal for him.
The Colosseum, or the Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium, Italian Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering.
Occupying a site just east of the Roman Forum, its construction started in 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus, with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign (81–96). The name "Amphitheatrum Flavium" derives from both Vespasian's and Titus's family name (Flavius, from the gens Flavia).
Capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine.
Although in the 21st century it stays partially ruined because of damage caused by devastating earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum is an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome. It is one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions and still has close connections with the Roman Catholic Church, as each Good Friday the Pope leads a torchlit "Way of the Cross" procession that starts in the area around the Colosseum.
The Colosseum is also depicted on the Italian version of the five-cent euro coin.
The Colosseum's original Latin name was Amphitheatrum Flavium, often anglicized as Flavian Amphitheater. The building was constructed by emperors of the Flavian dynasty, hence its original name, after the reign of Emperor Nero. This name is still used in modern English, but generally the structure is better known as the Colosseum. In antiquity, Romans may have referred to the Colosseum by the unofficial name Amphitheatrum Caesareum; this name could have been strictly poetic as it was not exclusive to the Colosseum; Vespasian and Titus, builders of the Colosseum, also constructed an amphitheater of the same name in Puteoli (modern Pozzuoli).
The name Colosseum has long been believed to be derived from a colossal statue of Nero nearby (the statue of Nero was named after the Colossus of Rhodes). This statue was later remodeled by Nero's successors into the likeness of Helios (Sol) or Apollo, the sun god, by adding the appropriate solar crown. Nero's head was also replaced several times with the heads of succeeding emperors. Despite its pagan links, the statue remained standing well into the medieval era and was credited with magical powers. It came to be seen as an iconic symbol of the permanence of Rome.
In the 8th century, a famous epigram attributed to the Venerable Bede celebrated the symbolic significance of the statue in a prophecy that is variously quoted: Quamdiu stat Colisæus, stat et Roma; quando cadet colisæus, cadet et Roma; quando cadet Roma, cadet et mundus ("as long as the Colossus stands, so shall Rome; when the Colossus falls, Rome shall fall; when Rome falls, so falls the world"). This is often mistranslated to refer to the Colosseum rather than the Colossus (as in, for instance, Byron's poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage). However, at the time that the Pseudo-Bede wrote, the masculine noun coliseus was applied to the statue rather than to what was still known as the Flavian amphitheatre.
The Colossus did eventually fall, possibly being pulled down to reuse its bronze. By the year 1000 the name "Colosseum" had been coined to refer to the amphitheatre. The statue itself was largely forgotten and only its base survives, situated between the Colosseum and the nearby Temple of Venus and Roma.
The name further evolved to Coliseum during the Middle Ages. In Italy, the amphitheatre is still known as il Colosseo, and other Romance languages have come to use similar forms such as le Colisée (French), el Coliseo (Spanish) and o Coliseu (Portuguese).

The photo (processed from RAW) is very bad because the high ISO, blindly manual focus, and to maintain the balance on tiptoes 30 seconds (holding the button) with the camera in a minitripod at the top of a mud wall. But it is the best one of those than I could do. What it is seen here it is just like one at naked eye watching towards the SE, after to have trained the eyes to see in the dark.

Orion (pronounced /ɒˈraɪən/), a constellation often referred to as The Hunter, is a prominent constellation, one of the largest and perhaps the best-known and most conspicuous in the sky. Its brilliant stars are found on the celestial equator and are visible throughout the world. Its three prominent "belt" stars - three stars of medium brightness in the mid-section of this constellation - make this constellation easy to spot and globally recognized. From mid-northern latitudes, Orion is visible in the evening from November to early May and in the morning from late July to November.
Greek mythology has several versions of the history of Orion, the gigantic hunter of primordial times. These end in different versions of his death: He challenged the gods, either by attempting to rape Artemis or by claiming that he could kill every wild animal on Earth. Some versions then say Artemis shot him with her arrows; but others say that Artemis or Earth produced a great Scorpion whom he could not defeat and which killed him. The gods raised him and the Scorpion to the skies, as Scorpio/Scorpius. Yet other stories say Orion was chasing the Pleiades.
The nearby constellations of Canis Major and Canis Minor are visualized in some myths as Orion's hunting dogs.

První "dvojičky" rekonstruovaných lokomotiv byly dokončeny v roce 2005 a dostaly označení 2ZAGAL (v překladu dva bílé koně).
RogueOlympics has started again, with the first prompt being "As Sweet as Sugar". Also an entry for the Sweet Scenes category of the Adorabuild contest on Bricknerd. I did not have any ideas early in the week, and then didn't have much time when the concept did come. Still had fun assembling this fantasy portrayal of the joy a parent experiences having fun with their kids. 89 parts were used.

A blizzard blew as the ship, loaded with migrants bound for Australia, sat at its moorings awaiting clearance to cast off and begin its epic journey halfway around the world. Streamers thrown optimistically between ship and shore were blown off course by the wind and lost in the driving snow, denying those parting their symbolic breaking of the bonds. Not that it made any difference to him, personally. There was no one in Southampton to bid him farewell. His goodbyes had been said a day earlier on the railway platform in Aberdeen. He was already en route to the Antipodes.
The Beatles had recently released an album to catch the Christmas market and one of its tracks, I’ll Follow the Sun, seemed particularly appropriate for this shipload of migrants. One of the young people on board the vessel had brought with him a copy of the album but had no means of playing it until the ship docked at Port Said and was surrounded by a flotilla of vendors in Bum Boats selling all manner of goods from food, to clothes, to souvenirs, to watches and electronics. He bought a portable record player and from that moment onwards, the ship followed the sun to the sound of The Beatles, through the Suez Canal, down the Red Sea and across the Indian Ocean.
After voyaging for a month since leaving wintry England, they finally docked at the port of Fremantle in Western Australia. It was 106 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale as he stumbled down the gangplank and as the hot, stifling blanket of air enveloped him, almost suffocating him, he vowed to quit this inhospitable land at the first opportunity.
Needless to say, this vow, like so many others sworn on the spur of the moment, was not honored. But he never quite became acclimatized to the rigors of the Australian summer. And every year thereafter, as winter’s chill abated, The Beatles would taunt him with another of their songs: Here Comes the Sun

tienes paloma,
un temblor de primaveras,
palomitay,
un volcán corre en tus venas.
Y mi sangre como brasa
tienes paloma,
en tu cuerpo quiero hundirme
palomitay,
hasta el fondo de tu sangre.
El sol morirá, morirá,
la noche vendrá, vendrá
Envuélvete en mi cariño
deja la vida volar
tu boca junto a mi boca
paloma, palomitay.
¡Ay! paloma.
En tu cuerpo flor de fuego
tienes paloma,
una llamarada mía
palomitay,
que ha calmado mil heridas.
tierna paloma
no pierdas las esperanzas
palomitay,
la flor crece con el agua.
El sol volverá, volverá,
la noche se irá, se irá.
Envuélvete en mi cariño
deja la vida volar
tu boca junto a mi boca
paloma, palomitay.
¡Ay! paloma.

From www.artic.edu/artexplorer/search.php?tab=2&resource=65:
Will the apples fall off the table? Explore the tension between stability and imbalance in this late still life by Cezanne.
Many of Paul Cézanne's late still lifes depict complex arrangements whose artificial character underscores the artist's role as contriver. They are, however, very different from the seventeenth-century Dutch prototypes to which they are sometimes compared. Cézanne never aimed at illusionism, and his still-life compositions can be anthropomorphic, expressive of psychological tension, in ways never dreamt of by his Baroque predecessors.
The Basket of Apples exemplifies this effect. The theatrical tilt of the basket implies that the apples on the tabletop have rolled out of it; yet the way they huddle and nestle in the crumpled napkin suggests that they possess independent minds. The biscuits on a plate are carefully stacked, but they too seem animate, as if straining to take in the drama unfolding before them. The bottle—slightly askew and off center, teasingly close to stabilizing union with the picture's upper edge—presides over the scene like a dark sentinel. Poised between resolution and imbalance, sensation and ponderation, The Basket of Apples makes tangible the complex eye-mind interplay that determines visual experience.
Cézanne's grave attentiveness to this dynamic gives his art a philosophical cast, but the pleasures afforded by his robust color chords, lively touch, and sure compositional instincts make it seductive. Here, his considered juxtapositions of autumnal hues, like the resolutely disjointed table edges and intentionally "unfinished" contours, draw attention to the deliberative nature of art-making.
Cézanne's determination to recognize the provisional nature of perception derives from Impressionism, but his stress on the tension between optical sensation and aesthetic transformation sets him apart. In his mature work, he found beauty of a new kind in the inherently charged dialogue between contingency and contemplation, thereby facilitating the more radical break with realistic representation effected by the Cubists and other modernists in the early twentieth century.
An examination of Cezanne's dynamic composition of fruit and objects in this still life from the mid-1890s.
Paul Cezanne spent most of his working life in and around the southern French city of Aix-en-Provence and, partially as a result of his self-imposed isolation, was for many years all but unknown in Paris. In 1895, he was persuaded by the dealer Ambroise Vollard to have a one-man show in Paris. The exhibition, held at Vollard's popular gallery, was not an important financial success, but it had a profound effect on the history of French art. It was the first time in nearly twenty years that French artists who had heard about this painter from Provence could actually see his work. Basket of Apples was among the paintings selected by Cezanne and Vollard for inclusion in this exhibition. Like several of the other paintings in the exhibition, it was signed, most probably at the insistence of Vollard, who felt that an unsigned painting might be considered unfinished and, hence, would fail to sell. Cezanne grudgingly complied, and, for that reason, the paintings in the Vollard exhibition are among the few the artist actually signed.
Basket of Apples is among Cezanne's "baroque" still lifes painted in the late 1880's and 1890's. Its pictorial structure derives from seventeenth-century Dutch still lifes. Like the Dutch artists, Cezanne sought to establish a dynamic, asymmetrical arrangement of objects that are held in place only by the painter's compositional skills. Yet, where such an effect of imbalance was merely a compositional device of the Dutch painters, it was an essential element of Cezanne's conception of the still life. Cezanne recognized the fact that the artist is not bound to represent real objects in real space. He was able, therefore, to impart to everything a strength and relative position that could not possibly be duplicated in an actual studio arrangement.
Here, the basket filled with apples tilts improbably on a small base or stand, its contents held in check only by a bottle and a cloth, in whose complex, craggy folds lie many other pieces of fruit. The table, like virtually every one in a Cezanne still life, has four edges that cannot be aligned to form an exact rectangle. At the raised upper right corner of the table, the artist created a latticed "log-cabin" of the French pastry called dents de loup, contrasting the informal and unstable arrangement of the circular apples on the table with the architectonic stack of cookies. Both arrangements vie for dominance around the central form of the bottle, which, with its own silhouette shifting from left to right, acts as an anchor for a composition in endless flux. Thus, the balance that Cezanne achieved is a purely pictorial one: the actual arrangement of objects he painted in his studio could never have possessed the dynamism and tension with which it is endowed in Basket of Apples.

The Louvre Pyramid is a large glass and metal pyramid, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace in Paris. The large pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Completed in 1989, it has become a landmark for the city of Paris. The construction of the pyramid triggered considerable controversy because many people felt that the futuristic edifice looked quite out of place in front of the Louvre Museum with its classical architecture.
The Louvre Pyramid is the work of American architect Ieoh Ming Pei. His architectural works are characterized by the search for a certain purity of form combined with functional efficiency. The use of abstract forms and the use of cold materials such as stone, concrete, steel or glass are accompanied by a strong propensity for theatrics and technology challenges.
