Explored #183 (8/13/2013, but no longer in the day's top 500). Thanks!
Since I didn't want to brave the weather last August 10, my 366 Snaps shots were taken inside the house.
Several of 'em were of the rain on various windows....
=========
Actually, I had an idea for a daily photo: I'd shoot a pic of Joan's CD collection. This turned out to be surprisingly difficult, as poor light and the small room worked against me. The bigger problem was the minimum focus distance for the lens, which forced me to lean against the far wall of the room. The smaller problem was that exposures were in the quarter-second range.
I worked at improving the light. I got serious about steadying the camera. I tried several ways to frame the picture. I shot several dozen photographs. Eventually I made a capture I was willing to share.
==========
This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps.
Number of project photos taken: 87 [you doubted that "dozens"?]
Title of "roll:" Playback
Other photos taken on 8/10/2012: A grey day, but by noon the rain had stopped. All afternoon I was shooting pix of birds at feeders, using both Nikons. I'm pretty sure we never saw any sunshine...

On April 26, 1986, the world’s worst nuclear power accident occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near the Ukrainian-Belarus border. Toxic radionuclides like Cs137 and Sr90 contaminated an area of 155,000 square kilometers in what is today Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, sickened from radiation-induced illnesses, or resettled to uncontaminated land.
Today, the immediate area remains off limits to humans. The plant was permanently closed in 2000. The surrounding agricultural land has been abandoned, and the two nearby towns (Pripyat to the north and Chernobyl to the south) where plant workers lived are largely ghost towns. Instead of people, abundant wildlife—packs of wolves, deer, and birds—roam and live near Chernobyl.
This image, taken from the Russian Mir spacecraft, shows Chernobyl and the surrounding countryside. The power plant is situated on the northwest end of a cooling pond on the Pripyat River, which flows into the Dnepr River just 80 miles north of Kiev. The main features visible in the image are the massive concrete dams and levees that were constructed to contain elements of the power plant and prevent contaminated runoff from entering the local streams. The cooling water canals leading to the pond, and the levees in the middle of the pond that channeled the water circulation can also be seen. The darker green regions are forests and the light green areas are cleared land used for agriculture.
Image NM23-745-116 was taken April 27, 1997, from the Russian Mir Space Station with a Hasselblad medium format camera equipped with a 250-mm lens and is provided by the Earth Observations Laboratory, Johnson Space Center. The NASA-Mir program was the first phase of the International Space Station Program, which now supports the Earth Observations Laboratory. The program trains astronauts to take pictures of Earth that are of value to scientists and the public, and to make those images freely available on the Internet. Additional images taken by astronauts and cosmonauts can be viewed at the NASA/JSC Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth.

A very typical Spanish street--albeit I removed all of the electrical wiring and even a motorcycle leaning against the wall... I used Topaz "HDR pop" to get the near painterly effect and used Viveza 2 to get some spots darker and others lighter. It is very difficult to shoot in blazing sunshine streets where the buildings are so close to each other and the shadows cast are so intense.

Fonte do Mouro (Fontana del Moro) - Fountain of the Moor - At the southern end of Piazza Navona, in front of the brazilian embassy, we find the Fontana del Moro, designed by Giacomo della Porto and erected in 1575. The fountain has statues of four Tritons and the basin is made of special antique rose marble. In 1654, Bernini carved the central figure, a muscular Triton riding a dolphin, that resembles a "Moor". Thus, the fountain is called the Fountain of the Moor. During a restoration in 1874, the original sculptures were moved to the Villa Borghese and substitute copies were made and are still on the fountain.
Navona Square (Piazza Navona).
Following, a text, in english, from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Piazza Navona is a city square in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in first century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium.[1] The ancient Romans came there to watch the agones ("games"), and hence it was known as 'Circus Agonalis' (competition arena). It is believed that over time the name changed to 'in agone' to 'navone' and eventually to 'navona'.
Defined as a public space in the last years of 15th century, when the city market was transferred to it from the Campidoglio, the Piazza Navona is a significant example of Baroque Roman architecture and art. It features sculptural and architectural creations: in the center stands the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi or Fountain of the Four Rivers (1651) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini; the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone by Francesco Borromini and Girolamo Rainaldi; and the Pamphilj palace also by Rainaldi and which features the gallery frescoed by Pietro da Cortona.
The Piazza Navona has two additional fountains: at the southern end is the Fontana del Moro with a basin and four Tritons sculpted by Giacomo della Porta (1575) to which, in 1673, Bernini added a statue of a Moor, or African, wrestling with a dolphin, and at the northern end is the Fountain of Neptune (1574) created by Giacomo della Porta. The statue of Neptune in the northern fountain, the work of Antonio Della Bitta, was added in 1878 to make that fountain more symmetrical with La Fontana del Moro in the south.
At the southwest end of the piazza is the ancient 'speaking' statue of Pasquino. Erected in 1501, Romans could leave lampoons or derogatory social commentary attached to the statue.
During its history, the piazza has hosted theatrical events and other ephemeral activities. From 1652 until 1866, when the festival was suppressed, it was flooded on every Saturday and Sunday in August in elaborate celebrations of the Pamphilj family. The pavement level was raised in the 19th century and the market was moved again in 1869 to the nearby Campo de' Fiori. A Christmas market is held in the piazza.
Other monuments on the Piazza Navona are:
Stabilimenti Spagnoli
Palazzo de Cupis
Palazzo Torres Massimo Lancellotti
Church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore
Palazzo Braschi (Museo di Roma)
Sant'Agnese in Agone
Literature and films
The piazza is featured in Dan Brown's 2000 thriller Angels and Demons, in which the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi "The Fountain of the four rivers"(the Danube, the Gange, the Nile and the River Plate) is listed as one of the Altars of Science. During June 2008, Ron Howard directed several scenes of the film adaptation of Angels and Demons on the southern section of the Piazza Navona, featuring Tom Hanks.
The piazza is featured in several scenes of director Mike Nichols' 1970 adaptation of Joseph Heller's novel, Catch-22.
The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi was used in the 1990 film Coins in the Fountain. The characters threw coins into the fountain as they made wishes. The Trevi Fountain was used in the 1954 version of the film.
Fonte do Mouro.
Stabilimenti Spagnoli
Palazzo de Cupis
Palazzo Torres Massimo Lancellotti
Church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore
Curiosidades

I became a lover of red later in life.
I took a course on colours years ago, very interesting, a real eye-opener... all very logical!
HOW THE COLOR RED AFFECTS US PHYSICALLY:
It increases enthusiasm.
It stimulates energy and can increase the blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate.
It encourages action and confidence
It provides a sense of protection from fears and anxiety.
Red stands for Happiness, Celebration and Ceremony!
Red is the color most commonly associated with joy and well being. It is the color of celebration and ceremony. A red carpet is often used to welcome distinguished guests. Red is also traditional color of seats in opera houses and theaters. Scarlet academic gowns are worn at by new Doctors of Philosophy at degree ceremonies at Oxford University and other schools. In China, it is considered the color of good fortune and prosperity, and it is the color traditionally worn by brides. In Christian countries, it is the color traditionally worn at Christmas by Santa Claus, because in the 4th century the historic Saint Nicholas was the Greek Christian Bishop of Myra, in modern-day Turkey, and bishops then dressed in red
Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me.

I was hiking in Chincoteague this weekend and luckily happened upon a roundup of the wild ponies. It was pretty cool, hopefully more pictures to follow.
There are many "legends" concerning the origin of the ponies. One is that the ponies are descendants of ponies that swam ashore after a Spanish galleon wrecked off the coast of Assateague Island. Another is that the ponies are descendants of the horses put ashore by Spanish pirates. The U.S. Government maintains the ponies descend from domesticated stock that was grazed on the island in the 17th century by Eastern Shore planters seeking to avoid mainland taxes and fencing requirements.
Whatever their origin, ponies have played an important part in the development of the the islands. They were used for transportation and work up until the early part of this century.
Since the 1930s, the ponies have survived storms and diseases. They are deemed by the Federal Government as the only wild herd still grazing east of the Rocky Mountains. Currently, there are two herds of horses on Assateague Island separated by a fence at the Maryland-Virginia Border in the middle of the Island.
Finally one of these makes into interestingness noticed just yesterday.

My fifthteenth 2 nines & 2 Singles (quadtych) mosaic, I am enamored with this format , so much so I started 2 nines & 2 singles (quadtych) Mosaics Group If you favor this format or see the possibilities consider joining the group and putting some of your own pieces together (it's easier than it looks, and directions are @ the group page). I hope some others will jump in to do some of these too, Please make yourself welcome.
Of course it all started with fd's Flickr Toys which is an ever-expanding body of tool-age for images with the MOSAIC tools I started the 9 panel (3X3)mosaics GROUP If you favor the 3X3 (9panel square format with faves) Check out 3x3 FAVs GROUP this is a way of redirecting to and seeing images from your pool or favs in a different way.
I usually link below as the mosaic images are somewhat cropped and of lower resolution.

overprocessed things. i hate most HDR photos, they look soso fake. i don't mind if things aren't sooc as long as they aren't sickeningly overprocessed.
4. What I admire from other photographers:
the ability to capture sunset lighting in every photo.
5. What I'd like to learn better:
photoshop. i recently got into using curves and all that but i think it's amazing how much you can do with an otherwise boring photo, though as i said i don't like things that are too overprocessed.
alright, i'm gonna tag:
go write in my formspring! (it's a place where you can anonymously write whatever you want to me and i'll reply in the comments of the formspring picture, for those of you who don't know) :)

[Chorus]
[Coda]
Dẫu biết đó lá thư này.. sẽ ko tới tay em..
Đêm ngày.. chờ mong tin em nơi xa xăm
Từng đêm anh vẫn thầm mơ

Nathan stood alone on the steps of the ruined Jedi Temple, the dunes of Ossus cascading before him. High above he could make out the dim shape of the Imperial Light Cruiser hanging in orbit. Even closer were the pristine white angles of the Shuttle soaring down to the planet, coming for them.
His mind raced. Why was the Empire here? Were they followed? Was the Empire tracking the Lucky Star? Had they led them right to a temple full of dangerous Jedi and Sith secrets?
Worst of all was the thought that Mayla was somehow involved. That he had been stupid to trust her, that she’d been playing him all along.
There wasn’t time to think about that now. It didn’t matter. What mattered was dealing with the situation.
Ozz and Eefo were safely away to the Searcher’s camouflaged outpost on the speeder bike. They couldn’t risk the Empire following them and finding the outpost, there was too much to lose there. That’s why Nathan had stayed behind: he was going to be the distraction. How very brave of him, he thought wryly. How was he going to find Mayla as a corpse?
He had a blaster pistol and one of Eefo’s storm conductors. It wasn’t one of his better ideas, but he could make this work.
Step one: draw their attention. It was crucial that he make them forget about the speeder bike. The process for this step was a little inelegant, but sometimes the obvious choice was the best one.
He flicked off the safety on Eefo’s blaster pistol. He couldn’t help but laugh. This was going to look absurd.
He raised the pistol, aimed at the shuttle, and pulled the trigger. He did this several more times, firing enough shots at the starship that it might draw its pilot’s attention. It was impossible to do any damage--especially from a few hundred feet away--but their sensors would notice, and he had to hope they’d choose the temple and the source of the blaster fire as a more interesting landing zone than wherever the speeder bike was headed.
It worked. He watched the shuttle nervously, but soon he could tell it had worked. Based on their flight path, they were coming in an arc towards him. He punched the air in triumph, but he didn’t have time to rest on his laurels. It was time for step two, and he had always been disciplined when it came to processes. That’s probably a part of why he had so few friends.
Eefo showed him how to operate her Conductor before she’d left. The Searchers used the charged chromium poles to attract Ossus’ giant storms and drain them for energy. Energy wouldn’t do him much good; all he needed was the storm.
He flicked the switch to reverse the charge on the pole, and left it planted in the ground. Nothing seemed to happen, and he looked at the sky anxiously. He guessed it took a few minutes.
The shuttle alighted a few hundred feet away, its wide wings closing gracefully with its dorsal fin, its ramp lowering with a hiss. Down walked an Imperial officer clad in gray, accompanied by a tall figure in black robes, and a squad of remnant stormtroopers.
It must’ve been the sight of the stormtroopers that did it. Suddenly it felt real. Those people could shoot and kill him. Nathan felt every fiber of his body push him to run and hide. But he had to wait for the storm.
The sky began to darken as the group of Imperials crossed the dunes toward the temple, creating a dramatic shadow over the flatlands. Lighting arced in the sky above, occasionally flashing down and striking the conductor, forcing Nathan to cover his eyes to avoid being blinded. The stormtroopers were close enough that he could make out the vents on their helmets. The storm was here, he had to move now.
He raised the blaster once more, and fired a bolt at the conductor.
With a dramatic burst of energy, it exploded, knocking him off his feet and into the temple atrium. He scrambled to his feet to find some sort of cover. He located the dead droid chassis on the staircase and clambered behind it, like a rabbit running to its warren.
Outside, things had become dangerous. Lighting, previously contained and directed toward the conductor, now had no conductor on which to focus. Bolts now struck the ground freely and often, crystalizing the orange sand. A flash of light incinerated a stormtrooper and created a rush of activity among the group, who dashed towards the temple doors for cover.
Lt. Syfot brushed himself off once indoors, surveying his squad for casualties. The Vu’othh stood by, disturbingly serene as always.
Syfot turned to scan the empty atrium. There was obviously someone here. Someone who would presently be killed.
“Come out, swine! Pathetic,” he sneered. “Troopers, find them!”
The stormtroopers, emblazoned with the Pyerce colors, fanned out into the ruins, E-11s raised.
Two approached the staircase where Nathan was hiding. Any second now and he’d be done for.
He turned to stare at the darkness of the tunnels. He had only just emerged from that pitch-black pit, no part of him wanted to go back down there. But he knew the way, at least better than the Imperials. It was his only chance to survive.
So he allowed himself to be pushed further inside the temple. He scrambled down the stairs, ignored the shout from the stormtroopers above, jumped to dodge the blaster bolts that flashed past, and ran at a sprint through one of the lower doorways. He would disappear into the dark.
Nathan ran, and turned, and ran, and turned, until he was sure he had taken a convoluted enough path that the stormtroopers wouldn’t easily be able to follow. It was silent now, in the horrible way that caves sometimes are, where the pressure of the rock above seems to bear down and muffle everything in a quiet dark.
The blaster, he realized, had fallen when the exploding conductor knocked him down. He had nothing to fight with.
He felt terribly alone.
He really didn’t want to die in the dark.
Thoughts of Mayla helped brighten his mood, and her smile appeared in his mind’s eye. But those thoughts were quickly soured by the possibility that she was behind the Imperials’ appearance. Instead, he remembered the only people he knew he trusted, or at least closest to it. He wished Ozz were with him; he’d be just as terrified, of course, but at least they could banter back-and-forth about the hellishness of the situation. At least he’d have a friend.
“You must be Nathan.”
His heart flew out of his chest and he stumbled to the ground. A soft blue glow touched the dusty ground under his fingers, and illuminated his arms as he raised them in defense.
“Woah!” he shouted. “What--”
A woman stood there, though what she was doing was closer to floating. She was ageless and calm, and smiled at him softly in a way that the caretakers at the orphanage had, when he looked particularly foolish and in need of rescue.
“I met your friend, Ozzamandes. We enjoyed a lovely conversation.”
Nathan starred in the way one does when encountered with a ghost, when they had previously believed ghosts to be entirely fictional. Despite his shock, he was able to mutter a skeptic, “Doesn’t sound like the Ozz I know.”
He climbed to his feet with some effort, suddenly afraid this glowing...whatever-it-was would give him away. And that he was going crazy.
The woman became suddenly urgent.
“Come with me, young one. They search for you. I can show you a way out.”
“Yes,” Nathan burst. “Please, please. Thank you!”
She smiled, and gestured for him to follow.
They hurried through the tunnels, away from the distant sounds of stormtrooper chatter and the barks of the officer.
“Dark spirits haunted these tunnels, until today. Your friend convinced me to banish them.”
Nathan wasn’t sure what to do with this information. “Wow,” is what he settled for.
“Come, it isn’t far now--” she turned suddenly, alarm flashing across her noble face. “What--? Such...evil,” she scowled. “That presence, do you sense it? But I banished--”
In a horrible dying of the light, as though her glow suddenly sickened and withered, the woman disappeared. Nathan was left alone, once more.
“Hello?” he called in a unnerved whisper. “W-Where did you go?”
He gasped and jumped. A facemask peered at him from the half-dark, a long-fingered hand outstretched.
“What did you do to her?” Nathan demanded, backing slowly away from this new figure.
The creature stepped slowly toward him, its black robes swishing against the rock-strewn ground.
“The spirit returned to the Force. Do not be afraid,” slithered a voice.
Nathan felt himself go still, bound by unseen, unfelt hands. He grunted and struggled, but the ghastly mask appeared in his vision, craning down at him. The pallid fingers pressed against his face.
“Come, speak to Absalom.”
Nathan came to with labored, frantic breaths, his body numb. He slumped against the stairs in the atrium, the crumbled edge digging into his back. Thunder rolled overhead, shaking the ground.
The creature from the tunnels stood watching him, but it was the Imperial officer who now filled his sight. He grinned like a madman, the sort of grin only moments away from killing you.
“What...the--” Nathan managed. Lt. Syfot had no patience for blubbering.
“You, boy. I came here for something, and--congratulations--you are in the fortunate position of giving it to me.” He cast a glance to the Vu’othh, saying quietly, “If my...consultant, is to be believed.” He then straightened and said, once again in his loudest, most in-charge tone of voice, “You seem to know these ruins well. I suspect your presence here indicates familiarity with the subject of my search. Yes, yes...I’d wager good money on that. You little leech.”
“Uh,” Nathan said, raising an eyebrow. “ I’m sorry, but...what the krif are you going on about?”
Syfot turned and whacked him painfully across the face.
“Shut your mouth, until I order otherwise.”
Hanging his head and wincing in pain, Nathan considered that maybe mouthing off hadn’t been the right move. One of his teeth felt loose.
“Don’t worry, I’ll have plenty of time for you to talk soon. Garel, Targonn, Yavin VI...you have been busy, haven’t you?”
No way, Nathan thought. He couldn’t know that was them.
“Yavin is, naturally, the odd one out. But to lose two spies in the same sector, in the same week? These, I am sure, were you. And from there you picked up the trail, found your way to the temples of Yavin’s moon, and of course, to here. How do I know this? Because I am brilliant, you little fool. Hit him!”
Before Nathan could react, a stormtrooper stepped forward and slammed the butt of his blaster carbine into his gut, knocking the air out of him. He doubled over, his side aching.
“And if you started on Targonn, well, I wonder which of our agents it was you encountered first…the girl?”
Nathan felt any number of sudden, powerful emotions. He did his best to keep all of them away from his face. He went slack, diligently avoiding Syfot’s gaze.
Syfot apparently found this amusing. He leaned down until they were inches apart, a smile toying at the corner of his mouth. There were scars across his face, subtle ones, ones he had tried to conceal. The violence in his eyes was overwhelming up close. It was as though a wild animal were trying to play dress up as a gentleman.
“Ahhh, the girl. Quite the beauty, but, as I understand, it’s only skin-deep. You must know her as...Mayla, perhaps? Oh, my poor boy. Did she put you up to this? Is she why you’re here?” He tisked sympathetically, and Nathan wanted so badly to hit him. “Then she is truly cruel indeed. Now, I admire a little imagination--let no one say differently--but most of our agents accomplish Moff Pyerce’s goals in more traditional ways. I’m not sure I approve. But…” his grin widened, as did his eyes. “I cannot complain about the results. A most useful tool you’ve proven to be, indeed. You’ve rooted out our weak links beautifully! Congratulations are in order.”
Syfot started to clap, then looked around to his squad. “Come now, congratulate our young friend! Quite the hero.”
Hesitantly, the Stormtroopers began to join in the applause. Some of them added mocking words or cheers.
The Vu’othh just watched.
Nathan stared at the ground defiantly, feeling utterly defeated. What if it was true? It wasn’t unlikely. Of course he’d been played. Of course this had all been for nothing.
Finally, Syfot had had his fun. He gestured for them to stop, and like that, the room was silent but for the sound of thunder. His grin disappeared. He grabbed Nathan’s shoulder and his fingers dug in, his face so close Nathan could smell his breath.
“Now, your chance to be truly useful. Tell me, boy, what you know. Where is Balaam’s Heart?”
As if on queue, the sounds of starships rose over the peals of thunder to reach their ears. The stormtroopers rushed to the doorways, and raised their blasters. Syfot stared at Nathan a moment more, running his tongue over his teeth before releasing him, and turning towards his men.
“What is this? What’s going on!”
Nathan knew, and he managed a weak smile.
The Searchers had arrived.
“Secure my shuttle! Go! You, contact the Rigorous for fighter support!” He turned last to the Vu’othh, whom he stared at as though wondering if it was worth it. When he finally spoke, it was painfully polite. “If it pleases you, any aid would be welcome.”
The Vu’othh bowed its head slightly, and Syfot was glad to leave off there.
Nathan heard the scream of TIE fighters and the sounds of battle outside. He was pulled to his feet; they were going for the shuttle.
They left the temple for the diminished light of the storm-cloud sky, lighting striking with no delay. The Searchers, he saw, were on speeder bikes and on foot. Their freighters were not warships, and were only useful as transports. The stormtroopers had kept the Searchers at bay, engaging them where they’d taken cover behind the rocks. The lightning was a constant danger, and struck unpredictably around the dunes.
Nathan was pulled out into the open, and he saw the open ramp of the shuttle waiting for him. Imprisonment, torture...Imperial victory.
He heard a buzz from his left, and the stormtrooper let go of his arm. A speeder bike came hurtling towards them. Blaster bolts rang past his ears, downing one of the stormtroopers, and he felt someone grab his harness. All of a sudden he was being dragged behind the bike, the sand scraping against his backside. Someone grabbed his arms, tried to help him onboard.
“Gotcha, kid! Not bad for a guy who’s never fished!”
“Ozz!” Nathan grinned. He grabbed the bike as tightly as he could with both arms and legs. Eefo was driving. “Eefo! Thank you!”
As selfless and heroic as their mad dash to Nathan had been, it was bound to cost them something. That’s when the bike lost control. It was struck by blaster fire in the charge, lost one of its balance pylons, and went spinning out from under them. They all had the sense to bail, jumping and rolling roughly into the sand as the bike went smashing into the sand, bouncing, losing parts with every impact.
The battle raged around them. Syfot and the Vu'othh passed by, making their way to the shuttle when step 3 of Nathan's plan miraculously came to pass: a stray bolt of lightning came down in the exact spot where the shuttle had been landed. Superheated molecules made impact with engine fuel, resulting in a blinding flash. A spectacular blue explosion threw sparks and metal out of the left side of its hull, and the entire thing fell unceremoniously onto its side.
Syfot and his entourage stopped in their tracks, staring at what had been their plan of escape.
"No!" Syfot shouted. He turned to survey the battlefield, and that was when he spotted Nathan, Eefo, and Ozz lying a few meters away. The three climbed to their feet, and a stand-off ensued.
"Contact the Rigorous," barked the Lieutenant. "They must send everything! All our forces! Crush these insects!" He ordered, before turning to Nathan with fury in his eyes. "WHERE IS THE HEART, BOY! WHERE IS IT!" He screamed, his dignity long-forgotten.
"You'll never get it!" Nathan taunted, unable to resist the chance to rub it in. "You're a failure! You're pathetic! And you'll never get what you want. I'm going to take it from you." Nathan glanced at Ozz. "We're gonna take it from you."
Ozz had enough to worry about already. He had no axe to grind, and definitely no desire to provoke the near-rabid officer any further. "No, no, just you! You're gonna take it from him. I'll just...eh, watch."
There was a wave of noise from behind them. The Searchers made a push forward, giving the Imperials no choice but to retreat. Abay, newly restored to his former glory, led the charge.
Syfot turned to run. "I'll find you! I'll find the heart! You'll rue this day, boy! You'll wish you'd never crossed my path!"
One of his troopers pulled him into safety behind the wreckage of the shuttle, while the Searchers similarly enveloped Nathan, Ozz, and Eefo into their own battle line.
"Quite a mess!" Exclaimed Abay. "But nothing we can't handle."
Eefo looked at the Duros with barely restrained hope. "Scriptist, are you..."
"Back?" He smiled. "I certainly am." He looked at Nathan. "Did you find what you need, Son?"
"Yes! Once this fight's over, we'll go--"
Abay cut him off with a shake of the head. "No. If it concerns something worthy of the Empire's interest, you must go immedietly. Take one of our speeder's back to your ship. We'll handle these stragglers!"
Nathan struggled with that, but Ozz knew there was no time to waste. "We'll take you up on that, gramps!"
Eefo turned to them, her eyes serious. "I'm really free?"
"Yeah, I meant what I said," Nathan replied.
"Then I'm staying with my people," she said firmly, with another look at Abay as though she couldn't believe it. "I'll make things right. Thank you. Don't let the Heart fall into the wrong hands."
Nathan gave her a wry look, considering their previous conversations. "Are there right hands?"
"There are wrong hands," the Rodian replied bluntly, and she pointed at the waiting speeder. "Now go!"
They hustled away, ducked low to avoid blaster fire. Abay called out once more before they sped away.
"Take heart! Find hope! And may the Force be with you!"
Nathan sensed a funny feeling in himself, in response to those words. A sense of kinship.
"You too!" He called back, and, after checking to make sure Ozz was strapped in behind him, he gunned the speeder's accelerator. They'd get to the Lucky Star and get off this planet. They had to start translating Balaam's writings, and find the next clue, and they had to hurry, before the Empire could catch up.
There was no time to waste.
The battle raged on in Nathan and Ozz's absence. The Searchers pressed their advantage, but ultimately, they were unprepared for the sheer might of the Imperial reinforcements. They fought bravely, but TIE Fighters and the arrival of three more squads of Stormtroopers proved too much to endure.
When they had woken up that day, only a few of their most sensitive had sensed the coming tragedy. Most of them never saw it coming.
Robed warriors lay still on the orange dunes, white-clad troopers walking among them and prodding the bodies with their guns.
Only a few remained alive, including Abay and Eefo. Van Konn died in the fighting. The survivors sat defeated in a circle, some mourned aloud.
Lt. Syfot, now bandaged for a minor blaster wound, commanded the situation. The Vu'othh was at his side.
"The Duros is strong with the force," the Vu'othh told him. "He is dangerous. He must not live."
Syfot listened and considered the Scriptist with an appraising eye. Abay sat kneeling, his head bowed in solemn sorrow.
Syfot made his decision. "Which of you knows the most of things like...this temple?" He asked the circle.
Slowly, Abay looked up. "I do."
"And have you any pupils?"
Eefo struggled to her feet, her head held high. "I have had the honor of learning all he knows!" Then the fire entered her eyes and her voice. "You sick, poor man. You lack knowledge and respect. Your life is a withered one."
Syfot sneered. "Shoot the old man."
Eefo's eyes went wide.
"No!"
A shout went up from the Searchers as the Stormtroopers took aim. They shot Abay, again, and again, until he'd fallen over in the sand, his body smoking. This only happened for a moment, for his body soon disappeared, fading away into nothing.
This disturbed Syfot, but to the eyes of those around he was only thrown off for an instant.
"Bring the Rodian!" He commanded. "The rest will pay for their defiance: you know what to do, Sergeant!"
The squad of Stormtroopers trained their blasters on the defeated Searchers. Many of the robed scholars and warriors reacted bravely. Others bargained.
Troopers dragged Eefo away to a waiting transport, as she struggled and raged.
"No! They have done nothing wrong! Leave them be! LEAVE THEM BE!"
Her cries were muffled by the ship, and the rest of the Searchers joined their fallen brethren in a hail of blasterfire.
When the Imperials were gone, and the Searchers safe at the outpost found them, rites would be performed to return their spirits to the living Force. Each one of the dead would be well mourned and dearly missed.
Already concerned with something else, like a child quickly bored by a toy, Lt. Syfot shook his head in unsettled frustration.
"The boy has our lead on the Heart. Surely he's escaped by now...blast it all to hell. What do you think, Vu'othh?"
The tall creature had watched the execution with passive interest. It now turned to the Leuitenant with a wave of deference and spoke in its persistently unaffected tone.
"Cast away your fears, Absalom," it said, voice filtered by its mask. "The child will continue the hunt as the unknowing servant of the cause. You need only go where you know he must appear."
Syfot thought about where this might be. His eyes grew wide with understanding.
"Back to Mustafar. To the house you first spoke of, yes?"
His tone turned threatening. "Unless he already has that part of the puzzle. If I do as you say, we might very well waste time and lose the trail."
"Waste not your time. Send this one, Absalom. This one submits to your will."
Syfot considered it, enjoying the idea not the least because it meant a great distance between him and this vile thing.
"Very well. Return to the Mustafar system. Wait for the boy there."
"As you desire," said the Vu'othh, and it bowed. Tall and thin as it was, even inclined it towered over the Lieutenant. Another reason he kept their conversations brief.
Syfot turned to survey the battlefield once more, his gaze idle and passive, and entirely unemotional.
That is, except for pride.
The sight of the many bodies, their robed forms at odd angles and in crumpled positions, made him smile. He so enjoyed a lack of loose ends.
"Back to the Rigorous, men!" He announced. "Time is of the essence, and I have a guest to host."
Streetcars in New Orleans have been an integral part of the city's public transportation network since the first half of the 19th century. The longest of New Orleans' streetcar lines, the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar, is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world, according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Today, the streetcars are operated by the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA).
There are currently three operating streetcar lines in New Orleans: The St. Charles Avenue Line, the Riverfront Line, and the Canal Street Line.
The wide destruction wrought on the city by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent floods from the levee breaches in August 2005 knocked all three lines out of operation and damaged many of the streetcars. Service on a portion of the Canal Street line was restored in December of that year, with the remainder of the line and the Riverfront line returning to service in early 2006

The Bucegi plateau is more than 2000m high (the highest mountain is Omul Peak - 2505 meters).
The Bucegi Mountains are located in central Romania, south of the city Braşov. They are part of the Southern Carpathians group of the Carpathian Mountains.
To the east, the Bucegi Mountains have a very steep slope towards the popular tourist destination Prahova Valley (a.o. Buşteni and Sinaia). At a higher elevation is the Bucegi Plateau, where wind and rain have turned the rocks into spectacular figures such as the Sphinx and Babele.
The Bucegi is believed to be the Dacian holy mountain Kogainon, on which the mythical figure Zalmoxis resided in a cave.

''El Nini siguió avanzando por la calleja solitaria, arrimado a las casas para eludir el lodazal. Restregaba la moneda que portaba en la mano contra los muros de adobe y al llegar a la primera esquina examinó el brillo nacido en el borde con pueril fruición. El barrizal era allí más espeso, pero el niño lo atravesó sin vacilar, sumergiendo sus pies desnudos en el cieno entreverado de estiércol y escíbalos caprinos, en la pestilente agua estancada de los relejes.''

In memory of those who perished 32 years ago today, 30th September, R.I.P.
At about 3am on the 30th September 1976 the Admiral Van Tromp, a new powerful Scarborough trawler ran aground on the scaur at Black Nab, Saltwick Bay. There was thick fog and a heavy swell running.
The Whitby lifeboat, William & Mary Durham, was launched and both Whitby's and Robin Hood's Bay's coastguards were called out. Several rocket lines were fired by the coastguards, but the crew of five trapped in the wheel house, were unable to reach them. The Watson type lifeboat tried to reach the trawler by dropping anchor and drifting back to the wreck. On the first attempt the line parted. A stronger anchor from one of the trawlers standing off was used and Cox'n Robert Allen tried again. However the sea was too strong. With waves washing over her and three of the crew injured the lifeboat got to within 30 feet of the stricken vessel.
As daylight broke the Van Tromp lay on her side with waves breaking over her. One of the crew was spotted clinging to Black Nab, he was saved by the crew of the inshore lifeboat who drove the D class lifeboat at full speed onto a ledge and the man was grabbed just as a large wave broke over the boat and washed it back into the waters. The other four were washed ashore, but sadly two did not survive.
A silver medal was awarded to coxswain Robert Allen and a bronze medal to helmsman Richard Robinson for gallantry.

"When we're married," He began. "And when I'm a pro baseball player, I take you anywhere you want to go."
His fingers brushed away hair and tears from my face. The words though, made me want to cry again. You always see movies about couples and when the boy says that he'll actually marry his girl, you get all bubbly inside and can't help to smile. Its the same feeling in a person's real life. I wanted nothing more than to be with Scott forever.
"Anywhere?" My voice sounded tired but his smile gave me all the energy I would ever need.
"Anywhere."
"What if I want to go somewhere, to just go there. Like, to Iceland."
Throwing his head back with laughter, he said yes.
"What if I want to go somewhere for just a day, to see one building or park?"
Moving his face closer to mine he answered yes again. "I told you Taylor, anywhere you want to go, we'll go."
"What if I want to go somewhere and get lost with you?"
"What do you mean?"
I smiled. "Getting lost, just that. Having plans to go someplace but then something goes wrong, and we get lost. In a different side of a city, with a different view above us in a different hotel."
"I love the way you think,"
His lips met mine and this kiss felt so real. Not real in the sense that it was fake or real, but just so alive. It had so much truth and it was almost of way of Scott not having to say "We can get lost together". This kiss said it all. I pulled back though to hug him and using force, he fell on his back onto the sand.
I smiled, kissing his lips on top of him.
"Oh please," He said as he pulled away from my lips. "I let you knock me over."
His arms came onto my stomach, pushing me off of him but it was totally fine. The sand didn't hurt me.
"You couldn't knock me down if you tried your hardest!" He stood up, flexing his body- which was so sexy. I stood up and ran backwards, then foward into him. I thought he would atleast be pushed back, just a little, but nothing happened. He let out a laugh so I punched him in the arm.
"Taylor," He said repeating the "r"'s again and again. "You're really going to get hurt. I just have huge arms from baseball."
Of couse I knew that, I didn't see the reason for him telling me. As he took a step towards me, I took one back. Again and again and again until finally, I took off running down the beach. My bathingsuit jiggled on my body and my feet dug into the sand. I knew I was a good runner, but I couldn't beat him. It annoyed me to say it, but he was a better athlete.
I turned around but he wasn't anywhere. I didn't see him at all.
My heart pounded as I called out his name. Out of nowhere, his arms were around my stomach, pulling me into him. I screamed when I felt his arms but it was the kind of scream with the laugh at the end.
"Put me down!" I kicked my arms and legs in any direction they would go but even when I felt his skin beneath mine, nothing happened. I screamed again but the scream with the laugh on it as we fell into the sand. His body was still tangled in mine and his arms stood up on eaither sides of me, boxing me into him.
He pressed his lips into mine, and our kiss was so intense. I ran my fingers through his hair, hugging his neck. All I needed was his lower lip in my lips.
I'm sure if someone were to take a picure of us two, covered in sand with love in our hearts and eyes, it'd come out the same as Scott and I: Perfect.

The ancient Roman city of Iesso, mentioned by classic authors Pliny the Elder and Ptolemy, identified by the preserved archaeological site in the village of Guissona.
Iesso was founded around the year 100 BC exploiting the natural resources of the flat Guissona: the presence of abundant water and ease for the exploitation of agricultural land nearby. This city has developed over more than seven centuries an important and constructive business. The current state of research allows noted that the Roman city of Iesso is walled and polygonal form a plant of about 15 and 18 are long, with a regular urban development characterized by a network of orthogonal streets, according to the models of the Roman cities of the time. To the second century BC and first century BC, is the foundation of the Roman city of IESSO. A city perfectly organized and structured with orthogonal streets, with a wall that protects the city center, with areas of cemeteries and public spaces. Its economy is based on agriculture, although there are also small articles such as pottery and domestic looms. This city has a very long endurance reaching s. VI AD. After that date there is a little-known period archaeologically and historically, that extends until S.XI. It is the period of confrontation between the Arab world and the counties feudal Catalans, and our land becomes "no man's land", where the border between the two worlds. The story continues to s. XI, particularly between 1010 and 1023, in which there is a process of recovery from the county of Urgell. Finding a strategic defensive and is a sufficient defense tower or castle in the current PL. of Capdevila, around which the people were rising. Guissona is set to Closa medieval village.Since the eleventh century until the thirteenth, the domain of the village of Guissona is shared between the Bishop of Urgell and the family Fluvià. In this double lordship is in our arms, showing the lineage of Fluvià (the waves of water) and the domain of the bishop (the Greek cross). From s. XIII, the lordship passed entirely into the hands of the bishop, which explains the presence of several palaces Episcopal our people. The last of these palaces are built around the seventeenth century and occupied the land where currently there is the Plaza del Obispo Benlloch, the City Council and the Catholic Center. We must stress also the work of Fluvià, an episcopal palace unfinished initiated by Bishop Peter Cardona with a style of detransició beginning of the s. XVI, the work that still rest with us. Another example of the importance of this domain is the religious renewal that affects the parish church. At the end of the s. XVIII, the former Romanesque church dedicated to s. XI is demolished and in its place is a temple built in neoclassical style, the majestic dimensions that still exists today. Especially the Baroque altarpiece of Solomonic dedicated to the Virgin
Lord make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
And where there is sadness, joy.

O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive-
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it's in dying that we are
born to eternal life.
Amen

our heavenly wolf creek pass.....just 28 miles from pagosa springs =o)
^i^
see it heavenly live here: www.wolfcreekski.com/wolf-creek-web-cam.php
Me an' Earl was haulin' chickens,
On the flatbed 1 out o' Wiggins 2 ,
An' we'd spent all night on the uphill side,
O' thirty-seven miles o' hell called Wolf Crick Pass 3 ,
Which is up on the Great Divide.
We's a-settin' there suckin' toothpicks,
An' drinkin' Nehis 4 an' onion soup mix.
An' I says, "Earl, let's mail a card to Mother,
Then sen' them chickens on down t'other side.
Yeah, let's give 'em a ride."
Wolf Crick Pass, way up on the Great Divide.
Truckin' on down the other side.
Well, Earl put down his bottle,
Mashed his foot down on the throttle.
Then a couple'a boobs 5 an' a thousan' cubes 6 ,
In a nineteen-forty-eight Peterbilt 7 screamed to life.
We woke up the chickens.
We roared up off o' that shoulder,
Sprayin' pine cones, rocks, an' boulders,
An' put four hundred head o' them Rhode Island Reds 8 ,
An' a couple o' burnt-out roosters on the line.
Look out below. 'Cause here we go!
Wolf Crick Pass, way up on the Great Divide.
Truckin' on down the other side.
Well, we commenced ta truckin',
An' them hens commenced ta cluckin'.
An' then Earl took out a match an' scratched his pants,
An' lit up the unused half of a dollar cigar an' took a puff.
Says "My, ain't this pretty up here."
I says, "Earl, this hill can spill us.
You better slow down or you gon' kill us.
Just make one mistake an' it's the Pearly Gates,
For them eighty-five crates o' USDA 9 -approved cluckers.
You wanna hit second?"
Wolf Crick Pass, way up on the Great Divide.
Truckin' on down the other side.
Well, Earl grabbed on the shifte
An' he stabbed her into fifth gear,
An' then the chromium-plated, fully-illuminated,
Genuine accessory shift knob come right off in his hand.
I says, "You wanna screw that thing back on, Earl?"
He was tryin' to thread it on there,
When the fire fell off o' his cigar,
An' dropped on down, sorta rolled around,
An' lit in the cuff of Earl's pants an' burned a hole in his sock.
Yeah, sorta set him right on fire.
I looked on out ta winda.
An' I started a-countin' phone poles,
Goin' by at the rate of four to the seventh power.
Well, I put 2 an' 2 together, an' added twelve an' carried five.
Come up with twenty-two thousand telephone poles an hour.
I looked at Earl an' his eyes was wide,
His lip was curled, an' his leg was fried.
An' his hands was froze to the wheel,
Like a tongue to a sled in the middle of a blizzard.
I says, "Earl, I'm not the type to complain,
But the time has come for me to explain,
That if you don't apply some brake real soon,
They gonna have to pick us up with a stick an' a spoon."
Well, Earl rared back, cocked his leg,
Stepped down as hard as he could on the brake,
An' the pedal went clear to the floor,
An' it stayed right there on the floor. 10
He says, "It's sorta like steppin' on a plum."
Well, from there on down it's just not real pretty,
It was hairpin county an' switchback city. 11
One of 'em looked like a can full o' worms.
Another one looked like malaria germs.
An' right in the middle of the whole damn show,
Was a real nice tunnel, now wouldn't you know?
Sign says, "Clearance to the twelve-foot line,"
But the chickens
was stacked to thirteen-nine.
Well we shot that tunnel at a hundred-n'-ten,
Like gas through a funnel an' eggs through a hen,
We took that top row of chickens off,
Slicker than scum off a Lousiana swamp.
Went down an' around an' around an' down,
An' we run out o' groun' at the edge of town.
Bashed on into the side of a feed store,
In downtown Pagosa Springs 12 .
Wolf Crick Pass, way up on the Great Divide.
Truckin' on down the other side.
Wolf Crick Pass, way up on the Great Divide.
Truckin' on down the other side.
* Wolf Creek Pass * ~ by C.W. McCall
This ensemble of the two buildings represents one of the top achievements of Hungarian Art Nouveau in architecture and ornamental art, located in Târgu Mureş, Romania.
Palace of Administration (on the left, with the 55 m high tower) was built in 1906-1907 as a town/city hall (and was used this way as far as the 1950s, when it has become the headquarters of the Romanian communist party for forty years; from 1990 it belongs to the county prefecture).
The right one, Palace of Culture was built a few years later, between 1911-1913. Both buildings were designed by the Budapest-based ardhitects, Marcell Komor and Dezső Jakab, the right one was planned to be a 2-story building, but according to the local legend, György Bernády, the legendary mayor of the town of his age, who had comissioned the building, spent a few weeks in the United States then, and following his personal impressions wanted to have a higher construction than the original plans. Thus the building with the extra level added could house a concert hall with a capacity of 800, a smaller hall with 300 seats, a 45 m long Mirror Hall (rather a wide corridor suitable for different social events), a gallery, a museum and a library. (Note, please, that this capacity must be compared to the total population of 25.517 according to the census of 1910 held in the town - the first cathedral was inaugurated in the 1930s.) A lot of cultural-educational activities are still going on in the building, and it was always used for cultural purposes, even in the darkest times.
The ornaments (roofs, stained glass windows, mosaics, sculptures, facades etc.) were made by the leading Hungarian artists of the age, e.g. Aladár Körösfői-Kriesch, Miksa Róth, Ede Kallós and many more, and the most modern artistic tecnologies were utilized during construction.
Restoration works of the two rather decayed edifices were carried out in 1995-1998 and 2003-2007, respectively. While Palace of Culture was refurbished more or less according to the very original state (and is opened to the public), most of the outdoor and indoor ornaments of Palace of Administration has been removed (e.g. all plaques referring to the original construction, stained glass-windows introducing great scenes of Hungarian history, a portrait gallery of the Hungarian past etc.), or hasn't been replaced as carefully as in the case of Palace of Culture. Palace of Administration cannot be accessed by visitors.
See a closer view of Palace of Culture.

The working day on Brunette Downs station begins well before dawn. The cook is cranking out a hot breakfast from about 4.15 a.m. By sunrise, the boremen and the grader drivers are heading out; the mechanic’s wondering which engine to fix first as the pilot taxis down the runway, watched only by kangaroos; and the ringers are in the saddle (horse and motorbike) mustering at the yards or with helicopters in distant paddocks.
Coutesy of Australian National Geographic
“That’s just working with nature,” Brunette’s manager Henry Burke says, explaining the early call. Cattle are more active when it’s cool. No animal, two or four legged, is eager to put one foot in front of the other when the sun is on high grill out here.
Covering 12,212 sq. km of the Barkly Tableland, in the Northern Territory, Brunette Downs is one of Australia’s largest cattle stations and bigger than some countries. It’s one of several Barkly properties owned by the Brisbane-based beef-producing Australian Agricultural Company (AAco), which controls 77,000 sq. km – about 1 per cent of Australia’s land area – across Queensland and the NT.
Brunette runs 72,500 head of cattle, including the 6500 bull-breeding herd, and lies about 430 km north-west of the mining metropolis of Mount Isa, a dusty six-and-a-half-hour drive, and 350 km north-east of Tennant Creek’s bare-essentials hospital. In between, civilisation holds on by the skin of its teeth. A sign at the top of Brunette’s 10 km long driveway proclaims Sorry No Fuel, although 120,000 L of diesel are stored on-site. A cattle station’s first obligation is to its own community.
About 52 people work and live at Brunette during the reliably dry March–November ‘on’ season. Most are young, single and male: those who aren’t understand that here stockmen rule and the rest serve. Station employees receive free housing and food and a daily wage that starts from $150 a day for those aged over 21.
Fringed by horse yards, workshops, generators, dry stores and cool stores, and serviced by fleets of small aircraft and large vehicles, including a road train, Brunette is more oasis township than lonely outpost. Its neat rows of offices and company houses are linked by well-watered lawns, rose beds, trellised bougainvillea and mature trees. At the centre of the complex are blocks of dormitory accommodation, a health clinic, butchery, commercial-grade kitchen and the social club – an open-sided shed where alcohol from a lock-up bar is served for one hour at sundown. The illusion of connectedness is powerful: common rooms and offices have internet access and TVs, and the workers’ quarters have phones. Beyond the boundaries of this small community, it’s flat for as far as the eye can see and all the clichés about heat, dust and flies stick.

This was supposed to be my contribution for Salon8.
When I used Maxime as a model for testing the light, she came out so much more beautiful and vulnerable.
In the end I chose her for Salon8, and this one was ment to be in my '365 times me', i guess.
The Corvair FC's were designed to compete with the Volkswagen Transporter/Microbus/Pickup type II vehicle of the time. Chevrolet did some market research and determined that those who bought the VW products did so because they had more interior volume than a pickup based sedan delivery, were smaller outside, were more economical and easier to handle in city traffic. VW owners complained about the type II's lack of power, lack of an automatic transmission, small load rating and the relative uselessness of the pickup body.
The Chevrolet reply to the Volkswagen is really very much like a modern minivan or mini pickup. It has 80-110 horsepower, 130-160 lb-ft of torque (depending on year and engine option), weighs 2800-3000 lb, and has similar exterior dimensions to a Plymouth Grand Voyager. Unlike the modern vehicles, though, all Corvair FC's have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4600 lb, which works out to about a 3/4 ton payload. All Corvair 95's with stock paint were delivered in two-tone: one of about six colors with a white accent stripe. A white body was also available, which came with a red accent stripe. The Greenbrier Sportswagon was available with a limited range of the Corvair car colors for that year. The same accent stripe color rule applied. Fleet purchases could be any color or combination by special order, and were indicated by special codes stamped onto the body dataplate on the front cowl. So if you look in the book to find the original paint color for your FC Corvair and discover that the number on the body data tag (which is located on the kick panel by the handbrake) isn't in the book, chances are your truck was factory painted in some commercial livery. These numbers are decodable by Chevrolet, should you desire to reproduce the original paint.
The Corvair 95 Corvan panel van (model R1205) was an industrial delivery van and was produced 1961-1964. It had a lot of volume in a relatively small package and had a loading height of only 18" above the pavement into the side doors. It could be optioned from bare-bones (no heater, no radio, single speed wipers, painted bumpers) to pretty nice (chrome bumpers and trim, dual speed wipers with washer, direct air or gasoline heater, second and third bench seats, side and rear doors with windows). Normal Corvans have six doors: two front, two on the right side, and two rear. A second pair of side barn-doors was available on the driver's side as an option. Ma Bell bought quite a few Corvans.
The Corvan was also available with a full-window option, which made it look like a Greenbrier. But the comfort options had to be individually checked off just as with the panel van. The four square side windows didn't roll down unless you bought the "roll- down windows" option. The window option Corvan was primarily intended for ambulance and taxi use.
FC engines were the same size as the Corvair car engines of that year: 145 c.i. from 1961-1963, and 164 c.i. in 1964 and 1965. In all year models they have a special oil filler/dipstick tube location: a 1" hole on the right rear of the crankcase. This allows the engine oil to be checked and adjusted on an fc without raising the rear cargo deck, which is normally screwed down and is raised only for maintainance items like changing air cleaners, synchronizing carburetors, or overly intrusive concours inspections at CORSA meets. FC's also have a special low-height version of the 1961-1963 car air cleaner system to make the drivetrain fit under the deck.
Early Corvair 95s and Greenbrier Sportswagons were only available with one engine: a heavy-duty truck rated version of the 80 hp base car engine. Compared to the car engine, the FC version had exhaust valves of tougher metal, exhaust valve rotators, reduced compression, and richer carburetor jetting. As with the cars, the 1961-62 Forward Controls came with the highly efficient "folded-fin" oil cooler. 1963 models were equipped with the 8-plate cooler.
The 1964 and 1965 standard engine was the 95 hp base sedan engine with the same modifications mentioned above, except that they use the "heavy duty" 12-plate oil cooler. Greenbriers were also available with the 110 hp engine as an option. 1965 Greenbriers (and therefore all 1965 FC's) have alternators, all other years and models have generators.
All years and models came with a 3-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, with optional 4-speed manual and Powerglide automatic transmissions. Three final-drive ratios were available: 3.27:1 (default with '61 four-speed Greenbriers--good for highway cruising), 3.55:1 (default for all other FC's) and 3.89:1 (for heavy towing or mountain climbing). Manual transmission FC's had different gear ratios than the cars of that year to better match the power curve of the engine to the larger tires and greater weight of the vehicle. Powerglides were equipped with a special external fluid cooler under the battery box.

A bientôt

Snow falls on El Alto.
El Alto is the sister city of La Paz, right next to it but above, in the altiplano. While La Paz expands downwards along the valley, with the richest population leaving in the lowest parts, El Alto is growing further from it, peopled by poor immigrants from the highlands.

EXPLORE: 01.08.2009 #316
It was chaos in our living room. Most of the family was there, and we're not a quiet bunch. Everyone's a communicator and everyone was communicating. The adults were involved in several conversations at once. Our two young grandsons were playing with -- let's call it enthusiasm -- maybe hoping to command a little attention. Surveying the uproar in our living room, I suddenly noticed a precious scene in the corner. It was our son with his dark-haired infant daughter, sprawled peacefully in her Daddy's arms. First they had been cheek to cheek, then she just simply fell asleep, oblivious to the storm around her, and safe in her Daddy's arms.
Our granddaughter felt safe, not because she wasn't in the middle of chaos -- believe me, she was -- but because of the security she has being in her Father's arms. It's a kind of security maybe you can only wish for right now because everything around you is up for grabs. Divorce can do that. A bad report from the doctor can do that, losing your job, losing someone you love, facing some frightening unknowns -- so many upheavals that can stress us, scare us, sink us. They remind us of a search we've been all our whole life -- the search for a safe place, no matter how out of control things around us may become -- the search for peace.
That search will not end until you are safe in your Father's arms -- Heavenly Father, that is. You weren't made to navigate life's white water alone. You were made for an intimate, trusting love relationship with the God who created you. The peace we need so badly is exactly what Jesus Christ promised to every person who belongs to Him. In John 14:27, our word for today from the Word of God, Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Let those words sink into your storm-battered soul. "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you." That peace is within your reach this very day.
The peace that may have eluded you your whole life is within your reach today. It's peace that can only be found, that can always be found, in your Daddy's arms.
