The next photos in my Visual Acoustics architecture series will all be shot with the new Formatt-Hitech Firecrest 16 stops IRND filters. Why? I already wrote a review on that a few weeks ago on my blog, and I can tell you again that there’s no colour cast at all, not even when shooting in poor light conditions and that the accuracy is very high and that there’s no vignetting with the circular filters, simply because they’re so thin and you don’t need to stack, but I’m not going to say that again. Just look at all the other reviews by independent photographers or read my review here or convince yourself. And if you're interested in how to create images like this, then all this is explained on my website and also in my book that you can find on my website.

Elliot last July .. We had just moved here in May..I think he felt pretty much at home! ; ) I had this new stand custom made for him at this place here called Purrniture (so he could fit on the top)... He is really a big boy.. ; ) The top of his kitty stand is almost as big as my table on the deck! ; )
Here's a link to the store...This cat furniture is made so much better than the stuff at the pet stores.... It's in St. Paul Minnesota.. Just click on store to see all the stuff this guy custom makes...
I've chosen to feature this castle in sepia to emphasize its history, its place in a bygone age and above all, its sense of mystery and yes, even romance.
"The castles which are today such an unmistakable feature of the Rhein landscape date back to the Middle Ages. Their founders were feudal overloards, who, so far from cherishing any romantic notions, built them with one simple aim in mind: to protect their lands from marauders and predatory neighbours. They chose mountain-tops as strategically ideal situations, and we today, looking back through the haze of ninteenth-century medievalism, are still often prone to see them as objects of mystery and splendour, forgetting the warlike function for which they were built and the back-breaking labour of the feudal serfs, whom we must presume to have been forcibly employed in quarring the huge stone blocks and dragging them up the mountain slopes.
Since Roman times the Rhein valley has been a line of communication of vital strategic importance. In the Middle Ages the German emperors used it for their frequent progresses into Italy, and rich merchants sent their goods to and fro along it. Obviously anyone owning a castle overlooking the valley was in a powerful position, since he was able to survey and regulate the flow of traffic across his particular territory and levy tolls on merchants. This accounts for the large number of castles along the Rhein from Mainz to Bonn, particularly in the narrow gorge connecting Bingen and Koblenz. Along this stretch of river, which has a length of only thirty-five miles, there are more castles than in any other river valley in the world. "

Thanks for visiting and have a lovely day!
one recently weekend afternoon, i happened to drive around downtown after a quick coffee break with my sister. somehow, i drove through this freeway overpass. i came down my car with tripod and a 10 stop filter... thinking some long exposure sunset shoots would be nice....
but when i saw all these cars and peole heading different directions to their own way, all the sudden, i felt like a headless chicken (aka - KFC :P). not feeling like to set up anything, not inspiring. i then point & shoot a few single exposures and headed back to pick up my son.
have you had one of those blurr moment before, just don't feel like to shoot anything? bleh bleh... bleh bleh bleh....

Ya no has vuelto por la costa
Te quedaste en la canoa

The vignetting is from shooting wide open on a 1.4, but it was worth it to catch the light. And it's noisy, but I couldn't care less.
When I was shooting this, my friend said he could see what I'll make of it.... I hope this doesn't fall short of what he expected me to do...
and BTW, for those of you who have been unfortunate enough to see the previous upload, this is the storm that I was talking about.. hehe... :P :D
This is going straight to my portfolio coz this defines me as a photographer and the kind of work I like.
Hope you all like this....
And yes, I'm so touched by all your comments/faves/views on my stream, I read them over and over again inspite of the training that has me running most of the time....
I dedicate this to Ambuj Bhaiya, the one who believed in me so much that he bought and sent me the SLR that I wanted from Japan (My KissX2) inspite of me repeatedly saying "No, That'll be too much." and to Papa, who said, "Go, touch your dream. I'll take care."
I could have done this at the time when I posted my first shot from the SLR. But I was waiting for The photograph that could do what it was supposed to.

Whittington Castle..BEST VIEW ON View On Black
Whittington Castle is very impressive and picturesque, situated in the heart of Whittington village.
Although little remains today of Whittington Castle to suggest the glory of its magnificent hay-day, the gatehouse towers are still standing, reflected in the clear water of the moat, home to a small community of swans and ducks.
Whittington Castle looks especially good when floodlit, with the light reflected in the water of the moat.
The famous Bishop Howe, a son of Shrewsbury and author of the hymn 'For All The Saints', was a rector of the Georgian church in Whittington for 28 years.
The village of Whittington, near Oswestry is the setting for the remains of a feudal fortress.
Whittington Castle is first mentioned in 1138, when it was fortified by the Norman Chief, William Peverell against King Stephen.
William Peverell, the reputed son of William the Conqueror, who had fought at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 was given property and lordships in Derbyshire and he was also awarded Whittington castle.
William Peverell demolished the original wooden castle and replaced it with one built from stone.
The Castles position on the border with wales gave it a valuable role in history and the Peverells held it until the twelfth century.
On the death of William Peverell, the castle passed to his son Pain Peverell, who in turn left it to his son William. This is where the male right to succession seemed to end, as William had no son, only two daughters.
In the early twelfth century, ownership of Whittington Castle passed from the Peverells to Warine de Metz who became founder of the line of Fulk-Warines. Warine de Metz was succeeded by Fulk Fitz Warine, his son, who was knighted by Henry the First.
The next Fulk became a famous warrior, fighting and slain in the battle of Lewis, Sussex. He left a son and heir, and a daughter called Eve. In 1221 Fulk was given a licence to fortify the Castle, to repel Welsh invaders.
The main feature of the new defenses at Whittington was a rectangular inner bailey, en-circled by a stone wall
with semi-circular towers at it four corners.
A succession of Fulks followed, one of which was also a warlike warrior, who attended the Black Prince into Gascoigne and the Earl of Warwick into Flanders, amongst other places.
This Fulk expressed a wish that upon his death he be buried in the chancel of the church at Whittington. It is rumored that his remains, found in an Oak coffin three inches thick, were found in the porch of the present St. John the Baptist church in the eighteenth century.
Fulk Fitz Warine III and his family held the castle at Whittington until 1420, upon the extinction of the male line.
Shot with my very nifty 50mm F1.4. Has to be the best lens purchase I have ever made.
The difference between whether you say, 'I wish I would have,' or 'I'm glad I did,' at the end of your life is whether or not you take DECISIVE ACTION during your life.

Comment:
Between 6th and 7th Street there is a small area that is infested with drug dealers and gang members. I was told many times not to walk in that area. You think I listened? Well, whilst in that area I came across this man. He has caused quite a commotion amongst you. It was a hot day…brilliant sunshine but he was sat in the shade….back resting against a wall. I approached and asked if he minded me sitting next to him for a while. He said no…so I parked my ass down on the curbside. He asked me what I was doing with my cameras and I explained I was a crazy Englishman who didn’t value his life. He laughed of course, which was beautiful to see because I have never seen a face as sad in all my life. I gave him a cigarette. In fact I gave him the whole pack. I went on to explain how I took pictures of homeless people and shared them online. He smiled again. I wondered what I said that was so funny. He went on to explain that there are MANY photographers who go down to that area but in the majority of cases they hang their lenses out of the car window and never get out. “That’s fucking wrong” he retorted. I nodded my head and asked would he mind me taking his picture. “Of course not…you asked” he replied.
We talked some more. Mostly about shit that doesn’t matter but for those few hours or so…it kinda did….you know….

Con una rosa hai detto
vienimi a cercare
I went El Matador beach last night for sunset. I put my $8 parking fee in the envelope, and headed down to the beach.... came back to my car about an hour later, and had a ticket for $162!
Part of the fee was for not paying the parking fee (which I did), and part of it was for parking at the beach past posted hours. I'm disputing both, so hopefully I'll at least get part of it back. California is a cool state but man do they nickel and dime you on shit like this.
I'm not even super happy with this shot (the sunset was kind of meh as there is a big marine layer on the horizon), but I wanted to get something for my $162 trip!
The usual subject from a rather usual angle, if compared to my previous jetty shot, which was a bit unusual...

The growing importance of the monastery of Ripoll and cultural center, library, medieval monastic scriptorium, and school, motivated successive enlargements of the building being completed by Abbot Oliba (1008-1046) to settle its final form: 60 by 40 meters in building stone of an austere and solid forms of five ships, with a body above the front building was erected two towers and steeples on the back a great transept topped by a central apse apsidioles and three on each side.
The temple has undergone several restorations. Especially the one made after the earthquake of 1428 and 1830 it dropped to five ships originales.Las the three dimensions of the nave are the original: 60 m. long by 9 wide. In the cruise and on the walls of the nave are the tombs of many counts of Besalú models and the Pelós Guifré Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer III and IV.
The main work of the monastery and the Romanesque sculpture of Catalunya, is the cover of the twelfth century. The cloister of the temple consists of two floors. It was begun in the twelfth century, was paralyzed construction until the end of the fourteenth century. The upper gallery was completed in the sixteenth century. Have trapezoidal shape and consists of 112 semicircular arches and 252 columns capitals carved with religious, mythological and popular.

I have been so bored without the internet. Its pathetic.
1. I deleted over 1000 songs on my itunes.
2. I wrote seven letters I have been meaning to for months and sent them out today
3. I got my first roll of film developed.
4. I rode a bike for the first time in years.
5. I finally figured out the perfect combination for my starbucks coffee
6. I ate over 21 rolls of Mentos in two days. Im not kidding. Im about to run out and get more.
7. I rediscovered my love for Harris Teeter.
They got rid of all of them in GA and here in NC they are all over the place.
8. I read two very long magazines devoted to Michael Jackson's life. My mother is in love with him and I had nothing else to do. Members of my family will appreciate that. Just take my word for it, that meant I was literally dying of nothing to do.
9. I got to know the cashier at ACE hardware while going there to purchase a dryer aghast pipe.
Apparently her husband lost his son for over 27 years because his first wife ran off with him as a baby. The husband found him though, he was in FL, and they are now reunited and the husband of the cashier was able to attend his long lost sons wedding last month.
After a few posts from other parts of Brazil, I am continually drawn back to my favorite location there, Iguazu Falls. The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y [ɨ], meaning "water", and ûasú [waˈsu], meaning "big". wiki That said, I'd be hard pressed to not call this place "land of the waterfalls" or "terra das cachoeiras".
This is a 6 shot vertical pano (w/reverse ND Grad) taken 10 mins. prior to and up stream from this post. With the nice light, I was really hoping this pano would turn out. You can see all of the mist, so I was kept busy wiping off the lens in between shots. I couldn't get Photoshop to stitch these together, so after numerous tries I went a different route and am very glad I was able to salvage it.
Thanks for looking!

Comments and constructive criticism always appreciated.
Once upon a time, three little girls lived in a cottage in the middle of the woods while their parents went on a business trip.
Goldilocks, Whiteylocks and Hazelocks.
You have most probably read about Goldilocks's story before, but have you heard of what happens next?
After Goldilocks fled from the home of the 3 bears, she was angry and humiliated, being the spoiled little girl she was, she felt that she had done no wrong. She vowed to get them back somehow, some day.
One early morning, Goldilock's youngest sister Hazelocks barged into her room excitedly announcing that a baby bear was in their kitchen. Hazelocks had medium length brown hair, she was tomboyish and did not act like a proper lady, she also had certain strange sadistic habits and was fascinated with torturing insects.
Goldilocks was delighted when she rushed to the kitchen and saw the familiar bear, although it had messed up the kitchen and was even stealing oatmeal from one of their bowls. Hazelocks started jumping around in excitement, and Goldilocks started formulating a plan.
Goldilocks was vain, arrogant and as aforementioned, terribly spoiled. She wanted a fur coat, her parents had promised to buy her one but their business trip was taking forever. She came up with a stupid and cruel plan, she wanted to skin the bear and use the baby bear's fur for a coat.
She told her sister who happily agreed that she would help Goldilocks with any "bloody disgusting" jobs when they skinned the bear. She was as excited as her sister and because of her warped mind, she enjoyed seeing any living organism suffer, except for herself or her family members.
Just then, Goldilock's 2nd sister, Whiteylocks (the middle child) rushed in and in her gentle persuasive tone, tried to stop her sisters from such acts of cruelty against animals. Whiteylocks was demure, gentle, well-mannered and she loved animals. Like all sickeningly sweet fairy tale princesses, she was adored by everyone but her eldest sister who was jealous of her.
Ignoring Whiteylocks, Goldilocks and Hazelocks were still bent on carrying out their plans. Advancing towards the bear cub with a knife, Hazelocks had a murderous look in her eyes as she raised the sharp deadly object.
The bear cub sensed danger and started squealing and calling for its mother in its own bear-speak that none of the three girls understood.
Just then, the girls heard a growl and charging with miraculous speed for an animal so large, the mother bear jumped through the window and continued growling menacingly at the three girls while protectively defending her baby cub.
She recognized Goldilocks as the intruder to her home and roared with anger, firstly, she had stolen their food, ruined their furniture and slept in her baby's bed and now, she wanted to hurt her baby.
Goldilocks and her sisters were already cornered, in her fury, the mother ripped Goldilocks apart and that sent her other 2 sisters screaming and crying, running for their lives. The mother bear turned to chase Hazelocks whom she had seen holding the knife and tore her into shreds. Whiteylocks being well read knew that there were 2 ways to escape a bear,
1. Climb a tree
2. Act dead
and since there was no tree in the house, she sprawled on the floor, trying to hold her breath and keep her calm, faking death. But the mother bear did not hurt her, she and her baby cub left the house which had been so clean a few minutes ago. (In comparison to it's current state the messed up kitchen would have been considered "clean")
Whiteylocks stared at her sister's dead bodies, or rather, what was left of them, and froze, her already semi-white hair turned whiter from shock into a pure white, her naturally pale skin paled further and her large eyes remained opened to the fullest, she couldn't stop shaking, she couldn't talk, she sat there in the house in the same position for days.
Eventually when the parents of the three girls returned, they were shocked to see the blood and the torn up bodies.
Whiteylocks was also dead. She sat in the same position, wrapping her arms around her own body. She had died from the lack of water and food.
And that was the sad end of the three little girls who lived in the cottage in the middle of the woods.

Experimented with DoF, this one was interesting, the bigger flower was little away from my focus and smaller one was my PoF, and as always this piece of nature also has a great message for us, not every body is equal in this world, some are rich, some are poor, some have disabilities and some have rare abilities, but no matter who you are and how you are there is something special in everyone of us, everyone one of us are special in some way are the other. Never underestimate yourself, if you are not special to yourself then don't expect others to expect that you are special. Belief in yourself, you are special, no matter who you are. Thanks for all your comments and fav

A couple weeks ago I organized a "glitter party," which was basically just a mass photoshoot involving lots of people, glitter, and a field. Unfortunately, the internet on my computer is down and has been down for about a week or so now. I can't seem to figure out how to get reconnected to the internet, neither can my brother. So my internet usage is reduced to whenever I can get on somebody else's computer. I don't like it at all.

Dad playing the Wii. Which is very hilarious to me because Jeremy wants one SO bad but my dad refuses to buy him another video game system. We have 2 NES's, one SNES, one N64, 2 PS1's, 2 PS2's and a Game Cube. Plus we have the first Gameboy, and Jeremy personally (personally meaning he doesn't share them with the family, hah) has the first colour Gameboy, a flippy Gameboy, and 2 of the touchy pencil thingy Gameboys. And for each system we have over 20 games in addition to controlers, rumble packs, memory cards, all those accessories. Yeah, add it up. The boy is OBSESSED with video games. My dad is vehemently against buying him any more because that's all he seems to do anymore is play video games. So It was just really funny to me that my dad got sucked into playing the Wii at a friends house on New Years. Jeremy didn't come to the party obviously, because if he had my dad would not have touched the damn thing. And he had SO much fun playing it! It was fun to watch him. You can see he's sort of smiling here. :)

With the company of mister Nelson Bolinhas.
Despite the bad weather, we decided to shoot another sunrise, to remember how good it feels to wake up at 5:00 ...
The aim was to repeat the visit to the piers in Povoa de Santa Iria, but after an attack of thousands of mosquitoes we decided to look elsewhere, and we went to this place never after photographed.
The weather was bad, the colors and the sun didn't appeared and this was my last record already in the rain.

Cara catastrofe in quei corridoi bianchi interminabili. Cara catastrofe e i tuoi aerei dispersi. Ancora tu e i nostri piatti rotti. I nostri inutili patti atlantici, notturni.
Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco, May 2010
Taken just after sunrise on a beach just to the east of the Bay Bridge tunnel. This was my first time to Yerba Buena/Treasure Island to shoot photos, and I spent half an hour trying to figure out where to go/park. By the time I found a spot, the sun had already crested the East Bay hills, so I just did some long exposure sea shots.
A freighter was passing by when I was shooting the rocks, so I managed to catch it during one exposure. Thinking back, I probably should have shot a quick shutter speed shot of the ship and merged it with the long exposure of the water. Anyhow, I spotted some cool piers with the SF skyline in the background for my next return trip, so I chalk this expedition up as educational.
30 seconds, f/8.0, 8 stop ND w/ graduated ND for ship/sky.
From My Blog
Kind of funny story with this one... The kid was very enthralled with me taking pictures in the park and so I turned around and pointed at my camera and then at him and his parents were extremely happy so I knew they wouldn't mind me taking a picture so I took one, showed it to them on the LCD, and they walked off.
When I got home I loaded this up and noticed that he had wet himself and his pants were almost totally soaked. I had to crop out a large amount of the photo to keep it clean here as well as extend his shirt with the clone tool.

A legend tells that in 1170 a rich merchant, Alberto (Besozzi family - Arolo), while he was sailing with his boat on the lake, a storm breaks over him. He trusted in S. Caterina (Alessandria) and decided to do penance if he survived the storm; so he avoid dead and once landed, he went to live alone in the place where now is the monastery. In 1195 Alberto stroke against the plague that hit the surroundings and, following the revelation of the angel, he made the "sacello" to be build like the one hosting the remains of S. Caterina on the Sinai. In 1205 when he died his corpse was buried in the chapel near S. Caterina.
The monastery was built after the miracle, so the supernatural help continued to draw his life. When in 600 some stones fell on Alberto's grave, destiny wanted them to stop a few cm from the soil and made them to pose quietly on the land years later. This event contributed to associate definitively the pray zone with the miracle. Since 1379, it was the territory of hermits, in 1670 belonged to the Carmelite friars and afterwards in the 2nd half of 1700 was cancelled. The province of Varese bought and financed long restorations, ended in 1986. Its structure was entitled to some Dominicans friars.

Although this shot has been my most popular high alpine photograph, I have never been happy with the processing of my original post. At the time I will admit I really had very little clue about what I was doing with post processing and fumbled it up in my opinion. From setting a poor white balance for the scene to my blending technique and managing dynamic range, I just didn’t know enough to due this photograph justice, so I decided to take another crack at it recently.
This time around I decided from the start to go with the full un-cropped version. It does center my foreground a little, but I found I really loved the beautiful reflection of the more colorful clouds in the lower right. From there I carefully processed each RAW file and then did a meticulous hand blend to try to maximize dynamic range. I paid a lot of attention in Photoshop to try to balance out the light for a more even exposure throughout the scene, despite the use of a filter.
The end result was an image I was much happier with, and one that I feel more accurately represented the scene that morning. I know that in the world of post processing there is a never ending learning curve, so sometimes it pays to go back and revisit an old image. That is one reason why I always keep my original RAW files around. I would love to get some feedback on this shot and see what you all think.
Thanks for viewing and I hope you all have a wonderful week.
