Boycott Guillermo Habacuc Vargas!
21/10/2007
www.marcaacme.com/blogs/analog/index.php/2007/08/22/5_pie...
"Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway.
EXPLANATION OF GALERIA CODICE
Managua, 19 of October
Gallery Codice from its creation in 1991, has promoted the Central American, but specially the Nicaraguans visual arts, as much in the national level, like in regional and the international. In Codice they have exposed great Central American teachers, as well as consolidated and emergenging artists. The contemporary languages of the universal art also have had space in Codice, reason why periodically it welcomes samples of conceptual art. With that spirit, Thursday 16 of August just last No.1 Exhibition appeared, of the Costa Rican artist, Guillermo Vargas, known artistically as HABACUC.
One of the exposed works consisted of presenting/displaying a famélico dog that Habacuc gathered off the street, and during the exhibition he appeared moored with a nylon cord, that was subject as well to another cord that hung of two nails in a corner of the Gallery. Habucuc named the dog "Natividad" in tribute to the Nicaraguan Natividad Canda (24 years) that died devoured by two Rottweiler dogs in a factory of San Jose, Costa Rica, the dawn of Thursday 10 of November of 2005.
The dog remained in the premises three days, from the 5pm afternoon of Wednesday 15 of August. He was loose all along in the inner patio, except the 3 hours that the sample lasted, was fed regularly with dog food that the same Habucuc brought. Surprise, to the dawn of Friday 17, the dog escaped happening through the iron doors of the main entrance of the building, while the nocturnal watchman who finished feeding cleaned it the outer sidewalk of the same one.
The Gallery Codice reserves the right of guarding by the quality of the exposed works, respecting at any moment the creativity of the artist and it has never tried to exert no type of censorship, as long as they do not attempt against the elementary principles of the ethics and much less than they imply the life of a living being, is human or animal. I thought to remain with "Natividad", but he preferred to return to his own habitat. I celebrate the one that so many people in the international level have been annoying by the declarations offered by Habacuc, in which she maintained that its intention was to let die to the starvation dog, which is of its absolute responsibility. When fulfilling informing the truth into the facts, I hope that all those same people have also elevated their voice of repudio when Natividad Canda was devoured by the Rottweiler.
Kindly, Juanita Bermúdez

This unusual and vacant home is here in University Place, not too far from Day Island. The people who used to live there certainly had an affinity for "gingerbread" trim and "Little Dutch Boy/Girl" cutout designs. I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it. They even had a matching structure that to me looks like a playhouse in the yard. It looks like a cinderblock home and from what my mother said was seen more in the 40's around here than the 50's. Regardless, I found this home totally fascinating from a photographic point of view. I chose to shoot this as an HDR using 3 different exposures. After tonemapping I worked with it further in Photoshop Elements 3. Unlike "Vintage Kitsch", I did not use the Orton technique. The wet, rainy and windy weather added to the depressed mood I got from this abandoned home.
This is a hand-held, 3 exposure, (-2ev, 0ev, +2ev) HDR, processed and tonemapped with Photomatix and further processed with PhotoShop Elements 3 and Microsoft's Picture It! Premium 10.

Llanthony Priory is a partly ruined former Augustinian priory in the secluded Vale of Ewyas, a steep sided once glaciated valley within the Black Mountains area of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Monmouthshire, south east Wales. It lies seven miles north of Abergavenny on an old road to Hay on Wye at Llanthony.
The priory dates back to around the year 1100, when Norman nobleman William de Lacy reputedly came upon a ruined chapel of St. David in this location, and was inspired to devote himself to solitary prayer and study. He was joined by Ersinius, a former Chaplain to Queen Matilda, the wife of King Henry I, and then a band of followers. A church was built on the site, dedicated to St John the Baptist, and consecrated in 1108. By 1118, a group of around 40 monks from England founded there an Augustinian priory, the first in Wales.
In 1135, after persistent attacks from the local Welsh population, the monks retreated to Gloucester where they founded a daughter cell, Llanthony Secunda. However, around 1186 another member of the de Lacy family, Hugh the fifth baron, endowed the estate with funds from his Irish estates to rebuild the priory church, and this work was completed by 1217.
The Priory became one of the great medieval buildings in Wales, in a mixture of Norman and Gothic architectural styles. Renewed building took place around 1325, with a new gatehouse. On Palm Sunday, April 4th 1327, the deposed Edward II stayed at the Priory on his way from Kenilworth Castle to Berkeley Castle, where he is alleged to have been murdered.
Following Owain Glyndŵr's rebellion in the early fifteenth century, the Priory seems to have been barely functioning. In 1481 it was formally merged with its daughter cell in Gloucester, and after 1538 both houses were suppressed by Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Marching along Park lane next to Hyde Park, London, the Grand Lodge of England Bicentennial Parade. Certainly worth watching if you happened to pass by as I did on my way to a picnic!
After searching the web (the press seem to have ignored this march) this is what I found: To mark the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the Grand Orange Lodge of England there will be a parade through the streets of our nations capital city on Saturday 9th June 2007.
This particular section of the parade featured the Ulster Special Constabulary which was a reserve force of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

Today I was with family for an early easter get-together/late birthday gift giving because my grandfather, aunt and I are the only ones that have birthdays at the beginning of the year and that always gets messed up. Nearly EVERYONE else's birthdays are around september, which used to make me sad as a kid because I would never get my gifts around the same time as everyone else, and I basically had to sit around when all of my cousins were getting things and be polite and shut my mouth. xD I don't mind it anymore at all (but i was a kid and i was a pouty little thing sometimes, haha!). I got more money for crafty stuff. Yay! Thank you Aunt Jane. =D
So anyway, off with that rambling. My step-grandmother took us to her "southern mansion" (as she calls it; it's more like an antique store gone wrong) to show us her reupholstering jobs. The outside is fabulous, though i totally spaced taking a decent picture. So the next few pictures will be from this place, along with the songs that have plagued me throughout the course of the day. xD
So! I found this little beauty (the necklace) on one of the walls in the place. AND I WAS ALLOWED TO KEEP IT. YAYYYY.
This one just happens to remind me of my lovely. =o
I was out of your league
And you were 20,000 underneath the sea
Waiving affections
You were out of my league
At a distance that I didn't wanna see
Down to the bottom
I wanted a junction and often there was one
You'd surface face first and we'd share our thought bubbles
And I still believe in the phrases that we breathed
But I know the distance isn't fair to cross
I was out of your league
And you were 20,000 underneath the sea
Waiving affections
You were out of my league
At a distance that I didn't wanna see
Wanted you nearer
Your depths made a pressure that punctured my works and all your fluids couldn't tolerate the force of my thirst
I love the place where we shared our tiny grace
But because it's real doesn't mean it's gonna work
I was out of your league
And you were 20,000 underneath the sea
Waiving affections
You were out of my league
At a distance that I didn't wanna see
Wanted you nearer
And true affection floats
True affections sinks like a stone
I never felt so close
I never felt so all alone
I was out of your league
And you were 20,000 underneath the sea
Waiving affections
You were out of my league
At a distance that I didn't wanna see
Wanted you nearer...

I have known Holly since I was about 2 or so. Our parents met on the first day that our older sisters went to kindergarten, we lived almost across the street from each other, and we grew up together. We drifted apart when we went to separate post-secondary schools, and her family moved to a different neighbourhood, and eventually, I moved across the country as well. Although we don't talk much, when we got together this past summer, it was like old times. We talked so much and have so much in common - it was awesome seeing her again.
I convinced her to let me photograph her. We had lots of fun!

ENGLISH
The Black Swan, Cygnus atratus is a large waterbird which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. The Black Swan was formerly placed into a monotypic genus, Chenopis.
‘Swan’ is the common gender term, but ‘cob’ for a male and ‘pen’ for a female are also used, as is ‘cygnet’ for the young. Collective nouns include a ‘bank’ (on the ground) and a ‘wedge’ (in flight). Black Swans can be found singly, or in loose companies numbering into the hundreds or even thousands.
The Black Swan is common in the wetlands of south western and eastern Australia and adjacent coastal islands. In the south west the range ecompasses an area between North West Cape, Cape Leeuwin and Eucla; while in the east it covers are large region bounded by the Atherton Tableland, the Eyre Peninsula and Tasmania, with the Murray Darling Basin supporting very large populations of Black Swans.
The Black Swan is also very popular as an ornamental waterbird in Western Europe, especially Britain, and escapes are commonly reported. As yet the population in Britain is not considered to be self-sustaining and so the species is not afforded admission to the official British List, but the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust have recorded a maximum of nine breeding pairs in the UK in 2001, with an estimate of 43 feral birds in 2003/04 (though that is undoubtedly an under-estimate given the level of monitoring undertaken).
The black swan was a literary or artistic image, even before the discovery of Cygnus atratus. Cultural reference has been based on symbolic contrast and as a distinctive motif. The Black Swan's role in Australian heraldry and culture extends to the first founding of the colonies in the eighteenth century. It has often been equated with antipodean identity, the contrast to the white swan of the northern hemisphere indicating 'Australianess'. The black swan is featured on the flag, and is both the state and bird emblem, of Western Australia; it also appears in the Coat of Arms and other iconography of the state's institutions.
The reclaimed wetlands of the river Foix estuary have made this area into one of the main attractions of the town. The River Foix, which is dry during most of the year due to construction of the Foix Resservoir is another of the most emblematic places in Cubelles. At the Foix estuary, you can spend the day enjoying nature and birthwatching, or at one of the picnic areas. This zone is also intended for school visits, as it is a place where children can study the ecosystem of a Mediterranean river such as the Foix.
The estuary is separated from the sea by a sand barrier which has accumulated over time, due to sea currents and rainwater sediments, forming freshwater laguens behind the barrier. The natural area of the Foix Delta has a branch of land that sticks out into the sea. This was formed during the floods of 1994 and joins onto another branch, leaving an island in the middle. Tourists can visit the island by crossing a wooden footbridge.

CASTELLANO

Towering at 8 1/2 feet, armoires like this can only be found in grand houses owned by wealthy hacienderos. Found in the main bedroom to store and keep neatly folded clothes and other valuables, the pediment crown of this Gothic Revival piece has bolection moldings decorated with beads and reels, bulbous finials at the corners, acanthus flanges, and topped by pierced foliated and flowering scrolls that overflow at the center with large bulbous campanilla or bellflowers and acanthus leaves they appear to be protuberating as they dangle from the crown. Cabinet doors and sides have confirming double lancet arches appliqued all around with bead and reel moldings, and at the spandrels are leafy rose flowers in deep relief and are exceptionally palpable. Similar bolection moldings below the doors frame the large keyholed drawer with iron bail pull, above a secret drawer disguised as a simple faschia, and the block feet supports. Inside are ample shelvings and a pair of smaller drawers. The crown, main carcase, and the bottom drawers can be detached for portability.

According to Wikipedia:
Postman's Park is a small green memorial garden in the City of London. It is located between King Edward Street, Little Britain and Angel Street. It was created in 1880 from the churchyards of St Leonard, Foster Lane and St Botolph-without-Aldersgate together with the graveyard of Christ Church Greyfriars. St Leonard's had been a ruin since the Great Fire and was probably demolished at the time of the creation of the park. St Botolph's is still open and stands at the north east corner of the park. Christ Church was detached from its graveyard and is now a ruin on the other side of King Edward Street.
The park was the idea of the painter George Frederick Watts who wanted to celebrate people who may otherwise have been forgotten. Its name celebrates the postmen who work in the principal London post office and the former sorting office in King Edward Street.
A wall in the park has 34 hand-painted tiles paying tribute to everyday people who sacrificed their lives helping others. The hand-lettered tiles were made by Royal Doulton.
The park features in the film Closer - Natalie Portman's character takes her pseudonym 'Alice Ayres' from one of the painted tiles, as Jude Law's character discovers at the end of the film.
About the Artist -
Statement
Alejandro Diaz is originally from San Antonio, where he developed a provocative and pertinent body of work exemplifying the complex and visually rich cultural milieu particular to South Texas and Mexico. He has lived in Mexico City, and is currently based in New York City.
Diaz is well-known for his conceptual, recurrent use of everyday materials; his humor infused politics; and his ongoing involvement with art as a form of entertainment, activism, public intervention, and free enterprise. He began making and selling his cardboard signs, “Mexican Wallpaper”, on the streets of Manhattan in the late 90s. More recently, he has translated them into a compelling series of colorful neon signs. Some of Diaz’ recent projects include a commission to create large-scale outdoor sculptures for the Public Art Fund (2005), New York’s premier presenter of public art, now part of the permanent public art collection of the City of San Antonio, on display at the San Antonio International Airport, and a public art commission for the Havana Biennial (2003). He is currently in a group exhibition at LACMA which will travel to Mexico City, San Antonio, New York, and Houston (2008-2010), and is currently in a solo exhibition at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (2009). Most recently, he received the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award for excellence in the visual arts in 2008. Diaz has had numerous solo exhibitions, including his first at Jessica Murray Projects, NY. He has lectured on his work at the Whitney Museum of American Art and at the Drawing Center, NY.
Had a chat with this stranger today near Chateau Frontenac. Very interesting character. Lots of life stories :)
At the end he did thank me a lot for the discussion and finished with "You've just talked to the biggest bottle gatherer of Québec City"

A dying vulture, waiting for the ending.

ENGLISH
The Griffon Vulture, or Eurasian Griffon Vulture, (Gyps fulvus) is an Old World vulture in the bird of prey family Accipitridae.
The Griffon Vulture is 95-110 cm (37-43 in) long with a 230-265 cm (91-105 in) wingspan, and it weighs between 6 and 13 kg (13.2 and 29 lb). It is a typical Old World vulture in appearance, with a white bald head, very broad wings and a short tail. It has a white neck ruff and yellow bill. The buff body and wing coverts contrast with the dark flight feathers.
Like other vultures it is a scavenger, feeding mostly from carcasses of dead animals which it finds by soaring over open areas, often moving in flocks. It grunts and hisses at roosts or when feeding on carrion.
It breeds on crags in mountains in southern Europe, north Africa, and Asia, laying one egg. Griffon Vultures may form loose colonies. The population is mostly resident.

This was an incredible old real-ale pub owned by the equally extraordinary Mrs Davies (who has now sadly passed away) until just a couple of years ago.
She was well into her eighties when this photograph was taken, and had grown up in Melbourne Australia, where her father was a racehorse trainer.
She inherited this pub when she was a little younger, and simply decided to come over to Wales to run it.
Absolutely nothing inside had changed since the 1930's,,,and the beer was just as good as then too, I've little doubt.
If you look at this photograph in "original" size, and look at the left hand side of the frame, you can just about see Mrs Davies in an even older framed photograph, hanging on the wall.
The guy sitting next to my wife is Genadii Dubayev, the Chechen novelist, who now teaches at The Sorbonne in Paris.
We were privileged to have him visit us over that Christmas and New Year (2002-03).
He's also a mean hand with an old vintage Leica out of the true Cartier Bresson mould.
If you should ever run into him however,,,don't let him challenge you to a Vodka drinking competition.
A genuine "Extreme Sport", at which you will certainly lose,,,but big-time, as I did (that is if you're a "normal" human being,,,and not somebody from Chechnya).

Gullfoss (English: Golden Falls) is a waterfall located in the canyon of Hvítá river in southwest Iceland. (source Wikipedia)
Its name comes from the fact there is very often a rainbow over it. (but when i was there the sun was a bit shy... as you can see)
But the most important thing is that this place is so wonderful ! Because of its greatness but also because of the desolate landscape all around, the rocks and mosses and the texture of this turbulent water...
Yesterday I saw this modest Ferrari, parked tight between other cars, and at first I wasn't that creative with taking pictures of it.
So, I've tried to do something different from what I use to do here.
The car was quite dirty, had lost some of its shine and had a dent just before its front wheel.
The light was actually quite nice though, so I thought this shot fitted the car very well.
The Ferrari 328 GTS is the targa version of the fixed roof 328 GTB.
The GTB referred to the Gran Turismo Berlinetta (coupé) body while the GTS was a Gran Turismo Spider (targa top).
The 328 GTS and GTB were the final developments of the normally aspirated transverse V8 engine 2 seat series.
The 328 figures in the model title referred to the total cubic capacity of the engine, 3.2 litres, and 8 for the number of cylinders. The new model was introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Salon alongside the Mondial 3.2 series.

In 1969, George Pereira began design of a small one-seat flying boat intended for homebuilders. This resulted in the Osprey 1 a small open cockpit plane powered by a single engine and a pusher type propeller. At about the same time the U.S. Navy began a search for a small light observation plane for use in Vietnam. One of the main requirements was that the plane be simple enough to be produced in Vietnam. The Navy approached Pereira in 1971 about his design and after examining the plane acquired it for testing. Designated as the X-28A the Osprey 1 joined the more famous X-Planes such as the X-1 and X-15. Navy testing in the fall of 1971 produced very good results with the plane meeting most of the requirements for the program. However, the program was cancelled with the end of the war in Vietnam and no military variants of the Osprey were built. George Pereira soon began work on an improved version of the Osprey. The main changes included an enclosed two-seat cockpit and amphibious capability. With the ability to land on both water and a conventional runway the usefulness of the plane was more than doubled. About 500 Ospreys of both versions have been built from kits and plans since 1975.
Took this shot yesterday. Didn't spend too much time editing the shot besides running it through photomatix. I like the way it turned out. A little darker than I would like but it was pretty cloudy. I haven't been back to the Capitol in some time and it was nice to use my new equipment.

The Saint Lawrence River (in French: fleuve Saint-Laurent; Kahnawáˀkye in Tuscarora, Kaniatarowanenneh meaning big waterway in Mohawk) is a large river flowing approximately from southwest to northeast in the middle latitudes of North America, connecting the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean. It is the primary drainage of the Great Lakes Basin. It traverses the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario and forms part of the international boundary between Ontario and other places in the U.S.A.
The Saint Lawrence River originates at the outflow of Lake Ontario between Kingston, Ontario on the north bank, Wolfe Island in mid-stream, and Cape Vincent, New York.
From there, it passes Gananoque, Brockville, Ogdensburg, Massena, Cornwall, Montreal, Trois-Rivières, and Quebec City before draining into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, the largest estuary in the world. The river runs 3,058 km (1,900 mi) from the furthest headwater to the mouth and 1,197 km (743.8 mi) from the outflow of Lake Ontario. The furthest headwater is the North River in the Mesabi Range at Hibbing, Minnesota. Its drainage area, which includes the Great Lakes and hence the world's largest system of fresh water lakes, has a size of 1,030,000 km2 (397,685 sq mi). The average discharge at the mouth is 10,400 m3/s (367,273 cu ft/s). The river includes Lake Saint-Louis south of Montreal, Lac Saint-François at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Lac Saint-Pierre east of Montreal. It encompasses three archipelagoes: the Thousand Islands chain near Kingston, Ontario; the Hochelaga Archipelago, including the Island of Montreal and Île Jésus (Laval); and the smaller Mingan Archipelago. Other islands include Île d'Orléans near Quebec City, and Anticosti Island north of the Gaspé.it is the 2nd longest river in Canada.

¡Ja!

5.Deci a venit la o cetate a Samariei, numită Sihar, aproape de locul pe care Iacov l-a dat lui Iosif, fiul său;
13.Iisus a răspuns şi i-a zis: Oricine bea din apa aceasta va înseta iarăşi;

4 Jesus had to go through Samaria. 5 He came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, which was near the land Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there. Jesus was tired from his journey, so he sat down at the well. It was about noon.
7 A Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.” 8 His disciples had gone into the city to buy him some food.
9 The Samaritan woman asked, “Why do you, a Jewish man, ask for something to drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (Jews and Samaritans didn’t associate with each other.)
10 Jesus responded, “If you recognized God’s gift and who is saying to you, ‘Give me some water to drink,’ you would be asking him and he would give you living water.”
11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you don’t have a bucket and the well is deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 You aren’t greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave this well to us, and he drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.”
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will never be thirsty and will never need to come here to draw water!”
