El pájaro moscón (Remiz pendulinus) es una diminuta especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Remizidae.
Descripción
Mide aproximadamente 10 cm de longitud y tiene unos 10 g de peso.
Presenta cabeza gris con anchas franjas negras, en la frente y ojos, en forma de antifaz. El dorso y la cola son marrones. Las partes inferiores tienen tonos castaños y cremas. El pico es corto y muy puntiagudo.
Las hembras tienen el dorso y el pecho de un tono más claro.
Distribución
En Europa se localiza de forma permanente en el sur de Portugal, en la parte sur y este de España, en el sur de Francia, en Italia, en Bulgaria, en Rumania, en Ucrania, y en el sur de Turquía.
Comportamiento
Emite un balbuceante y característico zii-ii y breve gorjeo.
Alimentación
Se alimenta principalmente de insectos y arañas, aunque en su dieta también entran algunas semillas.
Reproducción
Cría en árboles caducifolios, generalmente a orillas de ríos y lagos con mucha vegetación, ya que necesita árboles apropiados para construir sus nidos colgantes en forma de huevo o bolsa, con un túnel de entrada. Para la construcción de estos usa ramas finas, fibras (ya sean animales o vegetales), telas de arañas, semillas plumosas, etc.
Pone de 5 a 8 huevos durante el mes de abril, siendo estos incubados sólo por la hembra, durante unos 14 días. Los huevos son de color blanco mate.
I've been tagged....for the first time...and had no idea what that meant or what I was supposed to do. But thanks to Clay Wells he thought I was worthy enough to play this freaking Flickr game of tag. SO if you are one of the unlucky 16 contacts of mine I hit....don't blame me.....blame Clay....he's a pest. And I ask this: who the hell thought listing 16 things about yourself was a fab idea? And I did say fab.....I say fab because this little listing game feels like being Paris Hilton's new BFF.....contrived and silly..so i say FAB!
So after all the shoveling of snow, and blowing of driveways, and scraping of ice, I set back for a second and took in the gorgeous view off the front deck. I struggled with this shot....I wasn't sure if I should go for a long drawn out exposure to emphasis the dramatic skies...but once I clicked the shutter a few times, I figured mother nature did a darn fine job on her own and no ND grad filters were needed to help her this time.
I did however utilize a circular polarizer on this one and then converted to Black and White with a heavy red filter emphasis...something about the IR look and effect really appeals to me

1) I'm taller than 6'2" but shorter than 6'4"
2) I hate brussel sprouts, okra, egg plant, and any othe vegatable that are used to torture kids
3) I once faked being drunk (in my 20's) so i wouldn't have to spend anymore time of a painfully boring evening with a girl I was set up with on a blind date. She later asked her friend (who had set us up) if i was allergic to alcohol because I had reacted so violenly to one Coor's Light.....I thought she wouldn't have noticed I had only bought one beer....obviosuly her boring stories included relatively awesome observation skills.
4) I snore......relentlessly.....get some ear plugs cause I'm never having that silly surgery that every wife tries to get her husband to have....I mean really...surgery? Did Alexander the Great, or Hannibal, or Braveheart have surgery to lessen their manly snore horn...for crying out loud
5) I had a bunk mate in college that was from Ireland.....he played a game at parties (after a few pints) called "Hide the dook." i won't give you the details since the name simply says it all...i will say this though....there were many places we were never invited back to when they "found the dook."
6) I once got busy in a Burger King Bathroom......well not really but I did love me some of the Humpty dance back in the day....lyrical genius! And in a roundabout way this reveals I liked silly hip hop songs with guys with pickle noses.
7) I tend to exaggerate.....but only if it gets a really big laugh
8) I tend to like getting a laugh...which causes me to exaggerate
9) I played a professional sport after college.....
10) Both of my grandfathers were veterans of WWII...surprisingly, one of them was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific, and the other was a Seabee....

12) Quite possibly the funniest and my most favorite movie ever is 3 Amigos.....I mean, who could deny that its probably the last funny movie Chevy Chase made before his failure as a talk show host? And El Huapo....he's so dreammmmmyyyyy
13) I love to read.....when i was in 4th grade I guess I was reading a little better and faster than the other kids in my class (we won't talk about how far behind them I was in math). Anyways. my teacher met with my parents and told them they needed to start challenging me with more adult and abstract reading material. My father asked her "Like What?" She suggested Stephen King and Playboy......to my dismay, I never got the playboy reading materials...but my twisted parents, in their weird attempt at trying to "challenge" me were succesful in having me read "the Shining" and never wanting to sleep or ride an elevator again....as if looking at some breasts and reading about Stephen Spielberg interviews in Playboy would have been so detrimental....
14) I like and will continue to use Flickr as long as the sense of community, reciprocation, and feedback continue to be a staple diet of my daily experience here....I will however begin to weed out contacts whom I comment on photos regularly for (whether it be for praise, questions about their process, or just to comment about what did or did not work in their shot) but never seem to visit or comment on my or other people's streams. This is not a whine, merely a point ot be made...the community is only as good as the two way street it was desgined to be.....those that are takers only don't interest me...no matter how great they might be.....we are all in this together and reciprocation, no matter how slight, is an important part of the feedback we receive here.....

Maria Waldrast (means "Maria Rest-in-the-Forest" in English) is one of the highest Convents in Europe - 1641m (5383 Ft.) Altitude. It is located in Tirol, Austria, near Matrei am Brenner. The Foundation of the Convent is based upon a Story, that says, that in the Year 1407 two Herdsmen found an Effigy of the Virgin Mother in a Tree Trunk.
It is a very popular Place of Pilgrim here in Tirol - located very solitary in the Middle of the Mountains. There is a Spring with right-turning Spa-Water - right turning Water is very seldom and really amazing to drink. You can't compare it with any other Water in the World. It's a Healing Water too, and many People come up here to fill the Water and take it home - it is drinkable for a long Time. I did the same today and also made a Prayer for my Family and some Friends.
A very calmful and contemplative Place up there.

It was a gut feeling to use an additional 6th shot. Actually when I started, I took 17 shots. Cars and buses kept annoying me (yes I was on road with tripod) and having got home I realized that only 7 frames matched. I used 6 of them. Another annoying thing is that car that came right in the middle of my shoot.
Curves and enhancements in Photoshop CS2. Color correction and Cooling Filter (the lamps here dominate yellow shades and destroy the the color profile of pics). Would like to dedicate to Vikrant Gupta (yet to start an account) as he really waited for me to complete the shot. When at ease, do take out some time to take a Slide Tour of HDRs that I made.

Trumfes es la sólida apuesta de dos cocineros muy jóvenes, quienes, tras finalizar sus estudios de gastronomía (Joviat) y el subsiguiente periplo de “stages” en diferentes restaurantes de la geografía hispana, deciden finalmente instalar su propio negocio en la lejana población de Llivia.
Se trata de un restaurante modesto pero bien dispuesto en el que quizá habría que mejorar una iluminación algo triste que, junto al color asalmonado de la mantelería, le confieren un cierto aire de serio clasicismo que, la verdad, no se corresponde con el carácter vital de su cocina, ni con el talante atento y afable que difunde por la sala uno de sus artífices (el otro se ocupa de los fogones). En cualquier caso, es un escenario con cierto encanto.
Y respecto a su oferta gastronómica, traduzco del catalán lo que ellos mismos difunden: "Cocina catalana de temporada con productos de mercado, basada en la tradición y buscando la máxima expresión del producto junto a la proximidad del cocinero en la mesa.". Pues eso, una cocina que bebe de la tradición y aplica técnicas modernas para obtener unos resultados más que notables y, además, con una relación calidad/precio insuperable. En definitiva: una cocina y un conjunto que transmiten muy buenas vibraciones. Lástima que esté tan lejos.
En la fotografía: el arroz de perdiz. Perfecto punto del arroz en un conjunto de sabor rústico, intenso y rebosante de cebolla caramelizada (quizá no del todo integrada pero siempre convincente). La perdiz (cazada en la propia Llivia) servida en dos cocciones: rustidos el ala y el muslo (delicioso) y en óptimo punto de plancha una pechuga de carne firme y sabrosa. Se remata con queso y cebollino en la superficie. Un suculento y magníficamente interpretado arroz de montaña.
Lo mejor: la cocina y la buena relación calidad/precio del conjunto; el pan con tomate; el secreto; el arroz
Lo peor: lo lejos que está
Mejorable: la salsa de las bravas; la iluminación; la carta de vinos
Recomendado: una opción honesta y de calidad muy recomendable si se ronda por la zona

Halteria se asomó por una ventana de esta galería ayer, y hoy, casi transfigurada, lo vuelve hacer, ahora prácticamente irreconocible, sin embargo es la misma. En estos momentos posa de frente, en una vista ecuatorial, mostrando la parte inferior de su corona de cirros en cuyo centro se abre la cavidad oral.
La hemos vuelto a encontrar en un descuido de sus intermitentes periodos de descanso, aunque apenas unos segundos ha durado esta tregua de escasa movilidad, el tiempo suficiente como para hacer tres rápidos retratos, porque enseguida, Halteria ha retomado su frenética carrera de velocidad y saltos y se ha vuelto a perder en la inmensidad de la gota de agua que la contenía.
De perfil, Halteria muestra un contorno casi globoso y algo afilado en uno de sus extermos y es aquí donde un conjunto de numerosos y gruesos cirros rodea su cavidad oral. Los cirros de esta parte de su cuerpo no sólo atraen las partículas que le sirven de alimento, sino que también se encargan de impulsar y de mover velozmente a este inquieto ciliado en sus rápidas correrías. Vistos de frente, los cirros de la región oral forman un círculo perfecto de afiladas puntas y hacen recordar a la disposición de los finos tentáculos y espinas de los heliozoos.
En la región de su ecuador Halteria presenta un cinturón de finos y alargadísimos cirros ramificados, son éstos, los responsables de los acrobáticos saltos con los que este infatigable ciliado puede recorrer largas distancias en un instante. De este modo, catapultado por los casi invisibles resortes Halteria puede estar casi en dos lugares diferentes en un mismo tiempo.
Halteria pertenece al grupo de ciliados oligotricos (con pocos cilios) sí, son pocos pero muy eficientes. Los saltos de Halteria pueden despistar a cualquier depredador y al mismo tiempo sorprender a cualquier presa.
La especie que hemos podido fotografiar, probablemente Halteria cirrifera, vive en aguas estancadas y limpias, casi siempre entre entre las algas y prodede de una pequeña charca situada en las inmediaciones de Moreruela de Tábara, en la comarca zamorana de Aliste.
(Large on black). View to the West-Northwest from Toronto's Prince Edward Viaduct, which spans the Don Valley, joining Danforth Avenue and Bloor Street. At left is part of the so-called Luminous Veil, a structure designed to prevent suicides, hundreds of which tragically occurred by jumping off this bridge, usually onto the highway below.
The actual barrier is a series of steel rods strung vertically about 13cm apart, some of which you see along the far left side of this picture. The cross- or t-shaped beams which dominate the left half of the shot, provide structure to support the Veil, and are part of the "sculpture". The idea is not only to prevent suicides, but to look "beautiful" without ruining views such as this one. Some think it is great, while others think it is ugly. Here I am trying to present it as beautiful, whether it is or not. In that I think this picture is more successful than my last attempt.
To take this picture I put my treasured Sony Alpha through the barrier and braced it as I could, making damned sure I had the strap wrapped securely around my wrist.

Church of St Brynach , Llanfrynach
Llanfrynach Church is in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon, in the community of Llanfrynach in the county of Powys. It is located at Ordnance Survey national grid reference SO0752325791.
The church is recorded in the CPAT Historic Environment Record as number 16859 and this number should be quoted in all correspondence.
Summary
St Brynach's church is situated in the centre of Llanfrynach village some 4km from Brecon. It is a Victorian structure attached to a medieval tower and contains only a few items of interest, namely the only survivor of three early medieval stones found during the rebuilding of 1885 and a medieval font. The churchyard is large for a village church and may once have been more curvilinear than it now appears.
Tower is attributed to 14thC, though it is as likely to be 15thC, but rest of the building dates from 1885.

History
An early medieval foundation here seems likely, though the dedication and the three reputedly sculptured stones apart there is no evidence to collaborate such a view.
The 1291 Taxatio records 'Ecclesia de Lambernach' at the unexceptional value of œ4 6s 8d.
The nave and chancel were replaced by a local builder, William Jones, in the Decorated style in 1885. The rood loft which functioned as a gallery according to Theophilus Jones was removed a this time and of three early medieval stones found at the time only one can now be located.
In 1864 the tower wall was broken through to create space for a set of pews for the de Winton family. A west window was created at the same time. The vestry was added in 1892, the tower was re-roofed in 1905, and internally the font was re-dressed in 1892.
Architecture
Llanfrynach comprises a nave with a slightly narrower chancel, a west tower of the same width as the nave, a north vestry with a boiler room underneath, and a south porch towards the south-west corner of the nave. It is aligned north-east/south-west but 'ecclesiastical east' is adopted here for descriptive purposes.
Fabrics: 'A' consists of greyish red sandstone, though with some variations in colour, in both blocks and slabs, irregularly coursed and with ashlar quoins. 'B' is of more regular blocks and slabs, less weathered, and randomly coursed. All this stone looks new and there are buff-yellow sandstone dressings.
Roof: reconstituted clay tiles. Cross finials on chancel and porch.
Drainage: there are no obvious signs other than downpipes into raised drain holes against the walls. It is possible that any trench around the wall has now grassed over.
Exterior
Tower. General. Fabric A. Wall faces are heavily pointed, obscuring the masonry. Certain features are consistent to all faces: there is a chamfered plinth at a height of 1m, a string-course in rounded section at 1.5m, a string-course defines the top of the second stage about two-thirds of the way up the tower, and a third with hollow moulding at the top of the belfry stage; above this is a battlemented parapet, which Griffiths of RCAHMW thought was modern. The whole tower is usually attributed to the 14thC.
North wall: at base of second stage is a trefoil-headed lancet of buff sandstone with a relieving arch over, completely Victorian, inserted. This stage also shows some possible plaster remnants. Belfry is lit by a four-centred arched window, the two lights having cusped tracery and louvre boards; some of the dressings renewed.
East wall: nave apex reaches to just below the second stage string-course. Third stage has standard belfry window but not possible to determine whether any of the dressings renewed. Two waterspouts on the string-course above.
South wall: second stage has an inserted Victorian window as in north wall. At the top of this stage there is also a slit window with unchamfered jambs and a lintel that is splayed on the underside. This slit is blocked up as is part of the standard belfry window in the third stage.
West wall: the second stage carries a large two-light window of Victorian date, and above it is a slit window with undercut lintel as on the south side. The standard belfry window has some renewed tracery, and there are two waterspouts on the string-course above.
Nave. General. Fabric 'B'. Plinth with chamfer at height of between 0.3m-0.6m. Windows of regular form and all have relieving arches in 'B'.
North wall: two two-light windows. Buttress overlies junction of nave and tower.
South wall: three two-light windows, having quatrefoils above, hoodmouldings with ballflower stops; two buttresses, one at south-east angle, the other overlapping tower wall as on the north.
Chancel. General. Similar to nave in terms of fabric, plinth, windows etc. The roof is lower by almost one metre.
North wall: almost completely disguised by vestry.
East wall: three-light window with cusped tracery, hoodmoulding with weathered human-headed stops, relieving arch; two diagonal buttresses at corners.
South wall: one two-light window with trefoiled heads, hoodmoulding with ballflower stops, relieving arch.
Vestry. General. Boiler house beneath with flight of steps leading down to it. Door plus windows are square-headed and the latter have lights with mock Caernarvon arches. Blocked window in east wall.
Porch. General. Fabric 'B'.
East wall: one trefoiled window with a 'decorative' relieving arch; buttress at south-east angle.
South wall: high-pitched gable end. Two-centred arched doorway with complex mouldings and a hoodmoulding with ballflower stops. Old gravestones leant against wall.
West wall: as east wall.
Interior
Porch. General. Stone flags for floor, plastered walls; roof of rafters with collars.
North wall: Gothic arched doorway with complex moulding and ballflower stops to the hoodmoulding. Plain wooden door.
East wall: small splayed window with stone bench beneath.
West wall: as east wall.
Tower. General. Floor is reached by two steps up from nave. Wooden floor with pews set on it. Plastered walls.
North wall: nothing significant.
East wall: high two-centred arch, chamfered on both faces but only above springing points. Early medieval stone (see below) attached to northern reveal.
South and west walls: nothing of significance.
Nave. General. Tiles, some decorated, and raised wooden floors under seats; no grilles or obvious heating ducts. Walls plastered and whitewashed. Roof of spaced scissor-trusses with collars.
North wall: splayed windows, two-centred arched doorway of Victorian form to vestry. Three mural tablets, one of 1763/1785, the other two 19thC.
East wall: high two-centred arch with stops and responds. Galvanised steel plaques bear Lord's Prayer and Ten Commandments.
South wall: splayed windows. Two mural tablets of 19thC and 20thC.
Chancel. General. One step up to chancel and two to altar. Tiled floor with carpets over. Roof as nave but no scissor trusses.
North wall: has organ against it and two 19thC mural tablets.
East wall: galvanised reredos painted with 'Art Noveau' angels on either side of altar.
South wall: 20thC mural tablet.
Churchyard
Llanfrynach churchyard is exceptionally large and flat. Its present shape is sub-square and there is no evidence to indicate an earlier fossilised boundary.
It is overgrown on the east and north sides where there are fewer burial, but the areas of more recent burials are better maintained.
Boundary: the perimeter is defined by a stone wall, replaced by breeze block walling at the north-west angle.
Monuments: their spread is irregular. The area north-west of the church is currently in use, there is a single row east of the chancel, 19thC groups to the south of the church, and further graveslabs have been cleared and are now set against the east and much of the north wall of the churchyard.
Furniture: a churchyard cross, but of the 20thC, having been copied from one at Merthyr Mawr, Glamorgan, in 1910.
Earthworks: church is set on a slight platform, visible at the eastern end and around part of the north side. The earlier bank of the churchyard can be seen running about 2m outside the present eastern perimeter wall.
Ancillary features: small, double iron gates at the western corner, similar gates with the addition of a kissing gate on the south, both served by tarmac paths. On the south-east opposite the pub is a stone stile and on the north-east access from Ty-mawr was provided by a mock crenellated gateway; both of these served by grass paths. The rectory was linked to the church by a vertical stone stile in the north wall.
Vegetation: there are a number of large pines and deciduous trees on the north side of the churchyard and yews form both sides of an avenue running from the porch to the south gate with a few more by the grass path leading eastwards.

UPDATE Feb. 28, 2010: The Port of Los Angeles has rejected a 16-page proposal by the Pacific Battleship Group to move IOWA to San Pedro, CA. The nearby city of Vallejo, CA has been seeking donations to move her to Mare Island for years.
It is a very dark time for this proud warrior, which represents so much of this country's history.

Her forward 16-inch (rifles) guns are visible in this view. Mount Diablo's foothills rise in the background. From land, one of the closest viewing spots is from Industrial Way in Benicia. This photo was taken at the extreme range of my 40x telephoto. There is also the Levee Trail off Bayshore (it begins beneath the most easterly span of the Benicia-Martinez Bridge (there is free parking - look for the public access sign at the entrance of the giant 'new cars' import storage yard). About a 20 minute walk to the trail's end: Don't try walking in the marsh... it's very wet and muddy.

Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as Sri Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple, (on account of its scenic beauty and golden coating for English speaking world), is named after Hari(God) the temple of God. The Sikhs all over the world, daily wish to pay visit to Sri Amritsar and to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in their Ardas.
Guru Arjan Sahib, the Fifth Nanak, conceived the idea of creating a central place of worship for the Sikhs and he himself designed the architecture of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Earlier the planning to excavate the holy tank (Amritsar or Amrit Sarovar ) was chalked out by Guru Amardas Sahib, the Third Nanak, but it was executed by Guru Ramdas Sahib under the supervision of Baba Budha ji. The land for the site was acquired by the earlier Guru Sahibs on payment or free of cost from the Zamindars (landlords) of native villages. The plan to establish a town settlement was also made. Therefore, the construction work on the Sarovar(the tank) and the town started simultaneously in 1570. The work on both projects completed in 1577 A.D.
Guru Arjan Sahib got its foundation laid by a muslim saint Hazrat Mian Mir ji of Lahore on 1st of Magh, 1645 Bikrmi Samvat(December,1588). The construction work was directly supervised by Guru Arjan Sahib himself and he was assisted by the prominent Sikh personalities like Baba Budha ji, Bhai Gurdas ji, Bhai Sahlo ji and many other devoted Sikhs.
Unlike erecting the structure on the higher level(a tradition in Hindu Temple architecture), Guru Arjan Sahib got it built on the lower level and unlike Hindu Temples having only one gate for the entrance and exit, Guru Sahib got it open from four sides. Thus he created a symbol of new faith, Sikhism. Guru Sahib made it accessible to every person without any distinction of Caste, creed, sex and religion.
The building work completed in 1601 A.D. on Bhadoon Sudi 1st, 1661 Bikrmi Samvat (August/September,1604). Guru Arjan Sahib installed newly created Guru Granth Sahib, in Sri Harmandir Sahib and appointed Baba Budha ji as its first Granthi i.e. the reader of Guru Granth Sahib. After this event it attained the status of ‘Ath Sath Tirath’. Now the Sikh Nation had their own Tirath, a pilgrimage center
Sri Harmandir Sahib, is built on a 67ft. square platform in the centre of the Sarovar(tank). The temple itself is 40.5ft. square. It has a door each on the East, West, North and South. The Darshani Deori (an arch) stands at the shore end of the causeway. The door frame of the arch is about 10ft in height and 8ft 6inches in breath. The door panes are decorated with artistic style. It opens on to the causeway or bridge that leads to the main building of Sri Harmandir Sahib. It is 202 feet in length and 21 feet in width.
The bridge is connected with the 13 feet wide ‘Pardakshna’ (circumambulatory path). It runs round the main shrine and it leads to the ‘Har ki Paure’ (steps of God). On the first floor of ‘Har ki Paure’, there is continuous reading of Guru Granth Sahib.
The main structure of Sri Harmandir Sahib, functionally as well as technically is a three-storied one. The front, which faces the bridge, is decorated with repeated cusped arches and the roof of the first floor is at the height of the 26 feet and 9 inches.
At the top of the first floor 4 feet high parapet rises on all the sides which has also four ‘Mamtees’ on the four corners and exactly on the top of the central hall of the main sanctuary rises the third story. It is a small square room and have three gates. A regular recitation of Guru Granth Sahib is also held there.
On the top of this room stands the low fluted ‘Gumbaz’(dome) having lotus petal motif in relief at the base inverted lotus at the top which supports the ‘Kalash’ having a beautiful ‘Chhatri’ at the end.
Its architecture represents a unique harmony between the Muslims and the Hindus way of construction work and this is considered the best architectural specimens of the world. It is often quoted that this architecture has created an independent Sikh school of architecture in the history of art in India.

This is another image from my archives, taken in 1982 at the Gordon Bennett Balloon Race southeast of Palm Springs at the El Dorado Equestrian Grounds in the Indio/La Quinta area of the Coachella Valley. This was a self-assigned project with several of the images taken subsequently sold as stock through my agent. The original is a Kodachrome 64 slide taken with a Nikon F3 camera and a 50mm 1.2 Nikkor lens. I scanned the image using an Epson Perfection V500 Photoscanner. This image has been handled a great deal. The cleaning and color matching was a lengthy and intensive process for which I used Photoshop CS5. To remove as many dust particles and small pieces of hair as possible (not uncommon when a slide has been handled and viewed as much as this one) I enlarged the image to 150 percent.
The Gordon Bennett Race is one of the, oldest, largest and most prestigeous balloon races in the World. Most of the time it is held in European Venues in Switzerland. These balloons are not the typical hot air balloons that are so popular with tourists. These are helium filled and made to be used for long distance racing.. The subject is one of the crew members of the "Rosie O'Grady" team, an American Entry which won this race in 1982. The winner is determined by the length of the trip flown. Balloons like thes have been used since the late 17th Century, yet ballooning and balloon racing are still considered risky and a potentially dangerous activity. Outcomes are so dependent on wind and other weather conditions. Some balloons fly only a few miles while others may travel hundreds. On the slim chance that two balloons were to fly the same distance, time of arrival is the determining factor. This crew member is using a roller to apply an adhesive material that will make the seams of the fabric leak proof.

i got up at 5:45am and drove into work... rush hour in atlanta... so i arrived at about 7:45. at 9am i developed a migraine. as i type this, i still have it, at 12:16am, saturday.
to make things better, the company that was mounting the play tonight was extremely unprofessional, rude, and clueless on how a show is produced, mounted, and teched. they made a lot of mistakes that they blamed on us the staff, and it all made for a very frustrating night. all you who follow me on twitter got to read along with some of it.

This Veritas RS was purchased by the current owner in 2001 from the assets of its deceased owner Björn Övre. Mr. Övre was a collector of Veritas and early BMW cars who has purchased already in the 1950s and 1960s several Veritas cars in Belgium and imported them to Norway. He was indeed well known in Veritas circles and often a most welcomed guest at Veritas meetings at Meßkirch and at the Nürburgring. Sadly his intention to restore 61651 after retiring did not happen due to his untimely death.
After being in the now vendors ownership the car was completely restored by German specialist Georg Thiele and a photographic documentation of the restoration is available in the cars file. This restoration included restoring the original space frame, front and rear axles, wheels, braking system and fitting of new shock absorbers, rebuilt engine with new pistons, polished con rods, new oil and water pumps (by Feierabend) and a 5 - speed gearbox is fitted with the original gearbox supplied. Fresh paint and seats trimmed in the traditional style finish the car.
Today 61651 presents itself in superb race and road ready condition. This car campaigned in many classic races, rallies and classic outings all over Europe within the last 10 years while in the ownership of its current custodian, himself a well known pre - and post war BMW collector and is in mint condition throughout. Needless to say that it is highly collectible, very rare and simply beautiful, certainly not to be missed.
Der Veritas RS # 61651 stammt aus dem Nachlass des norwegischen Sammlers Björn Öwre und wurde in 2001 vom jetzigen Einlieferer vom Nachlass - Verwalter erworben. Öwre besaß seit den 1950/1960er Jahren mehrere Veritas, die er in Belgien erworben und nach Norwegen importiert hatte. Er war den Veritas Freunden seit Jahren bekannt und ein gern gesehener Gast an deren Treffen in Meßkirch und am Nürburgring.
Unter der Leitung von Herrn Georg Thiele und dank vorhandener Pläne wurde 61651 von Grund auf restauriert. Der originale Gitterrohrrahmen wurde auf einer Richtbank vermessen und ausgerichtet. Beide Achsen wurden komplett revidiert, ebenso Räder,Adapter, Bremsen sowie Bremsseile und Leitungen. Der Wagen erhielt neue Stoßdämpfer. Der Motor wurde mit neuen Hochleistungskolben versehen, die Pleuel wurden ausgerichtet und poliert. Öl - und Wasserpumpen lieferte die bekannte Fa. Feierabend. Der Zylinderkopf ( Bristol 100 ) bekam neue Solex 32PJCB - Vergaser ( NOS ). Ein leistungsfähiges Kühlsystem ist ebenso verbaut wie der für den Rennbetrieb vorgeschriebene Ölauffangbehälter. Zur Zeit ist ein VOLVO 5-Gang Getriebe verbaut, jedoch ist das Original - Getriebe vorhanden.
Der Gitterrohrrahmen wurde mit Aluminium Blechen beplankt, teilweise unter Verwendung alter Karosserie - Teile. Die Lackierung ( innen + aussen ) wurde ebenso wie die Sattlerarbeiten in der ,, alten Art ,, ausgeführt. Das Armaturenbrett und die Instrumente wurden nach Vorlagen und Muster neu angefertigt und entsperechen dem Original.
Tank und Batterie wurden aus Sicherheitsgründen - abweichend vom Original - im Heck des Wagens untergebracht. Eine Fotodokumentation ist vorhanden.

The calçotada is a typical food of the western region of Catalonia; original of Valls, in the region of Alt Camp, in the last decades has been extended and it can taste in almost any part of the community during the end of the winter and beginnings of the spring; calçots, a variety of chives specially cultivated for this intention, roasts directly on live coals of vine and they eat with the hand, seasoned with a special sauce, the salvitxada similar to the romesco. Meanwhile, the live coals take advantage of to roast meats or sausages for the second course.
Cooked in their point, the outer layer of calçots calcine, leaving tender and creamy the inside. Traditionally they take to the table on a mud roofing tile or they are packed with newspaper paper, that helps to conserve it warm.
The ingestion procedure - taking the layer carbonized with the hands - makes inevitable to get dirty itself, reason why it is traditional to put an enormous bib that arrives from the neck until the knees.
The typical dates to taste this species of sweet onion it is during the months of winter and spring.
It is custom to accompany them with a good Catalan cava (for calçots) and with excellent wines of the zone (with the second course, for which some purists say to prefer “botifarra amb mongetes”).

By December 1863, much of Louisiana was occupied by the Union army. Ninety-five schools serving over 9,500 students--including almost half of the black children in Louisiana--were running under its auspices. But keeping these schools up and running would require ongoing financial support.
Toward this end, the National Freedman's Association, in collaboration with the American Missionary Association and interested officers of the Union Army, launched a new propaganda campaign.
Five children and three adults, all former slaves from New Orleans, were sent to the North on a publicity tour. A drawing of them was printed in the 30 January 1864 issue of the popular Harper's Weekly, bearing the intriguing caption: "EMANCIPATED SLAVES, WHITE AND COLORED." The authors of this campaign were pursuing a surprising, and quite effective, strategy for arousing sympathy for blacks--they portrayed them as white.
Of the eight slaves sent north from New Orleans, four children--Charley, Augusta, Rebecca, and Rosina (Rosa)--looked white. As the article accompanying the group portrait in Harper's Weekly affirmed, they were "perfectly white;" "very fair;" "of unmixed white race". Their light complexions contrasted sharply with those of the three adults, Wilson, Mary, and Robert; and that of the fifth child, Isaac--"a black boy of eight years; but none the less intelligent than his whiter companions".
Accompanied on their tour by Col. George Hanks of the Corps d'Afrique (the 18th Infantry, a corps of colored soldiers), the group posed for photographs in New York and Philadelphia.
The portraits were produced in the format of cartes de visite (CDVs), albumen prints the size of a calling card, and sold for 25 cents each. The proceeds of the sale were directed to Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks in Louisiana, where the money would be "devoted to the education of colored people," as the verso of each photograph explains.
Of the "Emancipated Slaves from New Orleans" series, at least 22 different prints remain in existence today. The bulk were produced by New York photographers Charles Paxson, and Myron H. Kimball, who took the initial group portrait later reproduced as a woodcut in Harper's Weekly.
In "Visualizing the Color Line," Carol Goodman notes that much of the power of the photographs stemmed from allusions to physical abuse. When paired with a related article in the same issue of Harper's Weekly, the allusions in the portrait of white slaves to the white masters' sexual exploitation of their female slaves is clear. The most grievous sin of slavery, the editor of Harper's Weekly contends, is that it permits slaveholding "'gentlemen' [to] seduce the most friendless and defenseless of women". Moreover, two of the four black slaves included in the publicity tour bear the marks of abuse on their skin--Wilson has a brand upon his forehead; Mary, as she is described in Harper's Weekly, has more than 50 rawhide-scars on her arm and back.
Well it's been forever since my last post. I haven't traveled anywhere new for landscapes and haven't felt very inspired for much else. Kids and school seem to make life feel very chaotic during the spring and I tend to retreat to my garden. Digging, weeding, watering, and watching the dirt for new life to sprout where I planted it seems to put things back in order.

UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office (MCO) was proud to participate in the Pacific Humanitarian Partnership (PHP) Meeting held 2-3 October in Suva, Fiji, which brought together the humanitarian community – including government, UN agencies, civil society organisations, social movements and international and national non-government organisations (INGOs and NGOs) – to share best practices and strengthen localisation of preparedness and response activities.
UN Women Fiji MCO Representative Aleta Miller spoke at the meeting’s opening session. UN Women also facilitated a joint session with Diverse Voices for Action and Equality (DIVA for Equality) to promote the visibility of gender and protection actors in humanitarian response – those who may not always be part of formal humanitarian structures but do vital work in their communities. Experiences were shared by national civil society members from across the Pacific region including FemLINKPacific/Transcend Oceania, Pacific Rainbows Advocacy Network (PRAN), Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation (FDPF), Women United Together Marshall Islands (WUTMI) and DIVA for Equality.

● INGREDIENTS
☞ 2 pounds large Yukon Gold potatoes
☞ 2 TBSP malt vinegar
☞ 1/3 cup vegetable stock or potato-cooking water
☞ 1 cup vegan mayonnaise (such as non-soy Just Mayo)
● EXTRAS
☞ 2/3 cup finely chopped onion
☞ 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
☞ 3 small radishes, roughly chopped
☞ 3 TBSP finely chopped dill pickle
☞ 3 TBSP chopped fresh scallions
☞ 1 TBSP capers
☞ 1 tsp ground white pepper
☞ 1 tsp ground mustard
☞ 1 tsp turmeric
☞ 1 dash Liquid Smoke
☞ 1 dash smoked paprika
☞ Kosher salt, to taste
● GARNISH
☞ Crisp whole red-leaf lettuce leaves
☞ Thinly sliced radishes
☞ Chopped scallion greens
● PROCEDURE
1) Peel the potatoes and slice each one lengthwise in half, or in quarters if very large; then cut crosswise into half-round or quarter-round slices, about 1/2 inch thick.
2) Put the slices in a saucepan with water just to cover and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt per quart of water. Bring water to a boil, and reduce to a simmer, uncovered. Cook the potatoes for 5 to 6 minutes, checking with a fork for cooked through, but still firm. Check frequently. DO NOT OVERCOOK.
3) Immediately remove from heat and drain into a colander, but save a cup of the cooking liquid for dressing the potatoes.
4) Add the malt vinegar to 1/3 cup of vegetable stock or the reserved potato water. Transfer the potatoes to a mixing bowl. Drizzle the vinegar/stock over the potato pieces, turning them gently to distribute evenly. Let sit 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
5) Add potatoes to colander. Strain out any remaining liquid.
6) Return to mixing bowl. Add the onion, celery, pickle, scallions (reserving some for the garnish), capers, Liquid Smoke, and spices (minus the paprika and salt). Toss. Top with 2/3 cup of mayonnaise and, with a large rubber spatula, gently fold everything together until well blended. Taste the salad and add more salt, pepper, mayonnaise, or vinegar/stock as needed.
7) Cover the salad and set aside in the refrigerator for at least an hour or so before serving. If it is refrigerated longer, let it come back to room temperature before serving.
8) To serve, line a bowl or a platter with red-leaf lettuce, and mound the salad on top. Decorate at the last moment with radish slices, chopped scallion greens, and a couple of dashes of smoked paprika.

"Ravensbrück was a notorious women's concentration camp during World War II, located in northern Germany, 90 km north of Berlin at a site near the village of Ravensbrück (part of Fürstenberg/Havel).
Construction of the camp began in November 1938 by SS leader Heinrich Himmler and was unusual in that it was a camp primarily for women. The camp opened in May 1939. In the spring of 1941, the SS authorities established a small men's camp adjacent to the main camp.
The first prisoners at Ravensbrück were approximately 900 women. The SS had transferred these prisoners from the Lichtenburg women's concentration camp in Saxony in May 1939. By the end of 1942, the inmate population of Ravensbrück had grown to about 10,000. In January 1945, the camp had more than 45,000 women prisoners.
Between 1939 and 1945, over 130,000 female prisoners passed through the Ravensbrück camp system; only 40,000 survived. Although the inmates came from every country in German-occupied Europe, the largest single national group incarcerated in the camp consisted of Polish women." (Source: Wikipedia)

Artist Statement
The platters I have sent to this exhibition combine several ceramic traditions. The first is, The Palace Art Pot. Palace Art Pots were made to demonstrate wealth and power. They were made to tell a story, to commemorate an event or a person, and to demonstrate skill and challenge the abilities of the artisans who made them. The second tradition is the Fish Platter. Fish platters were a staple of the Neo Arts and Crafts Movement of the 1950s and 60s. The third and last tradition is the One-Line visual and verbal Pun, Platters of the ceramic Funk Movement.
Humor through the use of the visual pun was a mainstay of the California Funk movement. Humor in clay has a tradition as old as the use of the material. I have always felt that humor has been given short shift as a serious emotion. Art work that uses humor and has been actively excised from collections of serious art. It may be that we do not understand the function of humor as well as we understand the function of the other emotions.
In the work presented I have tried to inject some humor into the decorative / commemorative object. The platters are big to give them a slightly overblown sense of their own importance and to be able to be viewed from a distance . They are meant for the wall and the table. The large size to fit the importance of large gatherings.
I have tried to replace historical patterns with objects reduced to pattern. Some of the objects are extensions of my environment or reflections of personal interests. Images of turn of the century technology, (the Machine Age), are a personal favorite. Subject matter ranges from humorous depiction of everyday objects to gender stereotypes. My abilities as A draftsman are limited but seem to be adequate for the kind and quality of image that the subject requires. They have a cartoon look as opposed to the crisp complexity of fine china.
The clay body, a red earthenware, is heavily potted and makes no secrete of its variations and flaws. The glaze work is in the Majolica style and is done very much like a watercolor on soft paper. The pots are fired twice. They are bisqued to cone 05 and glazed to cone 04. Some may have an additional firing to Cone 018 for low temperature luster and enamels. They are fired in an oxidizing atmosphere using an electric kiln.

Se asoman a su balcón desde su funda transparente que es una vaina que además de dar protección al cuerpo de estos ciliados también les da el nombre. Se trata de Vaginicola, ciliado alargado en forma de trompeta , que en su cabeza se abre en corona como una flor.
Los cilios de Vaginicola ruedan en la corona fabricando pequeños remolinos en los que quedan atrapadas pequeñas partículas y algunos organismos diminutos que después este ciliado selecciona para él o para devolverles la libertad en el agua.
A Vaginicola parece que no le gusta vivir solo, por eso, casi siempre se asoma a su balcón en compañía, quizá estos compañeros hablen del tiempo, de la vida, o de los lunares que adornan su interior. Estos pequeños lunares son también amigos y hacen con Vaginicola una simbiosis ejemplar y que con frecuencia se da también con otros protozoos, son así, cientos más dos.
Vaginicola cuida con mimo su colección de lunares verdes que son algas del género Chlorella y estas pequeñas algas verdes en muestra de agradecimiento, corresponden con Vaginicola regalándole las golosinas de los azúcares y proteínas que ellas fabrican, pero estas golosinas no son un capricho, se han vuelto ya imprescindibles y sellan esta relación de amistad.
Vaginicola recuerda mucho a Cothurnia y a Thuricola por su apariencia, pero Vaginicola vive dentro de una funda que se muestra como un vaso, abierto y sin protección, mientras que sus otros compañeros, más precavidos o más frioleros, cierran la entrada de la vaina que los protege con una puerta que se siempre hacia afuera, de este modo ellos pueden salir, pero nadie puede entrar.
Dos amigos, probablemente hermanos, se asoman al balcón y muestran alegres su cuerpo de lunares verdes. No son dos amigos en realidad, son cientos más dos en un incondicional vínculo de amistad y proceden de la balsa de Ajamil en La Rioja de donde procede la muestra que ha sido fotografiada a 400 aumentos empleando la técnica de contraste de interferencia .

An hórreo (Spanish) is a granary built in wood (Iberia or Scandinavia) or stone (Iberia), raised from the ground by pillars ("pegollos", in Asturian, "esteos", in Galician) ending in flat stones or "mueles" or "tornarratas", to avoid the access of rodents. Ventilation is allowed by the grooves in its walls. In some areas, hórreos are known as hórreu, horru (Asturian), horriu (Leonese), hórreo, paneira, canastro, piorno (Galician), espigueiro, canastro, eira (Portuguese), stabbur (Norwegian), härbre or more precisely stolphärbre or stolpbod (Swedish)
Hórreos are mainly found in Northwest Spain (though there are also in other Northern villages). There are two main types of hórreo, rectangular-shaped, the more extended, typical from Galicia and square-shaped from Asturias, León and eastern Galicia. The oldest Spanish document containing an image of an hórreo is the Cantigas de Santa María by Alfonso X "El Sabio" (song CLXXXVII) from XII A.C. In this depiction, three rectangular hórreos of gothic style are illustrated. The longest hórreo in Galicia is located in Carnota, A Coruña and is 35 m long.

Un hórreo (cabazo, cabaceiro, cabaceira, canastro o piorno en gallego; horru en asturiano y hurriu en cántabro) es un granero construido en madera o piedra, que se eleva del suelo mediante pilares o "pegollos", que están terminados en unas placas o "tornarratos" para evitar el acceso de roedores y que suele disponer de paredes con ranuras para que se ventile el interior.
Se usa para almacenar infinitos tipos de productos y enseres, destacando todo tipo de aperos de labranza, maíz, patatas, fabes, etc.
Hay quien afirma que la historia del hórreo comenzó con el Imperio Romano (horreum). Sería una tecnología que éste dejó, y que perduró en algunas partes del norte de la Península Ibérica como un medio eficaz para mantener el grano a salvo de los roedores. Lo que es seguro es que uno de los nombres actuales de esta edificación proviene del latín. Sin embargo, la tecnología constructiva básicamente ya es conocida en estadios civilizatorios muy anteriores a los romanos, en los propios territorios del Imperio, pero también en muchos otros lugares del planeta donde aquéllos nunca pisaron. En Europa se encuentran restos arqueológicos del Neolítico, y de la Edad del Hierro en las actuales Francia y Alemania, en contextos ligados a la práctica de la agricultura. Una de las representaciones gráficas más antiguas, también prerromana, se halla en Valcamónica, norte de Italia, que posee un importante conjunto de insculturas pétreas, atribuidas a los celtas lepónticos. Por lo tanto cabe también la posibilidad de que los hórreos del noroeste ibérico sean prerromanos, hipótesis no descartable, aunque tampoco demostrable a falta de hallazgos arqueológicos similares por ejemplo a los de la antigua Galia.

The Douglas DC-3 is an American fixed-wing propeller-driven aircraft whose speed and range revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Its lasting impact on the airline industry and World War II makes it one of the most significant transport aircraft ever made. Many DC-3s are still used in all parts of the world.
The amenities of the DC-3 and DST popularized air travel in the United States. With only three refueling stops, eastbound transcontinental flights crossing the U.S. in approximately 15 hours became possible. Westbound trips took 17-1/2 hours due to prevailing headwinds — still a significant improvement over the competing Boeing 247. During an earlier era, such a trip would entail short hops in slower and shorter-range aircraft during the day, coupled with train travel overnight.
A variety of radial engines were available for the DC-3 throughout the course of its development. Early-production civilian aircraft used Wright R-1820 Cyclone 9s, but later aircraft (and most military versions) used the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp which offered better high-altitude and single engine performance. In 1950 three DC-3S Super DC-3s with Pratt & Whitney R-2000 Twin Wasps were built
Total production of the DC-3 was 16,079. More than 400 remained in commercial service in 1998. Production was as follows:
10,655 DC-3s were built at Santa Monica, California, Long Beach, California, and Oklahoma City in both civil DC-3 (607) and military C-47 (10,048) versions. 4,937 were built under license in Russia as the Lisunov Li-2 (NATO reporting name: "Cab"). 487 Mitsubishi Kinsei-engined aircraft were built by Showa and Nakajima in Japan, as the L2D2-L2D5 Type 0 transport.
Production of DC-3s ceased in 1942, military versions were produced until the end of the war in 1945. In 1949, a larger, more powerful Super DC-3 was launched to positive reviews; however, the civilian market was flooded with second-hand C-47s, many of which were converted to passenger and cargo versions of DC-3s, and only three were built and delivered the following year. The prototype Super DC-3 served the US Navy with the designation YC-129 alongside 100 C-47s that had been upgraded to the Super DC-3 specification.

Maximum speed: 237 mph (206 kn, 381 km/h (=Never Exceed Speed (VNE), or Redline speed))
Cruise speed: 150 mph (130 kn, 240 km/h)

This camoflagued Douglas D-3 (C-47), built in Santa Monica California has an interesting history. It was owned and flown by the Israeli Air Force and used in the first air trip ever between Tel Aviv and Amman Jordan. Many Israeli paratroopers remember this paritcular plane as it was used as the principal aircraft to train Israeli paratroopers. A number of former paratroopers and their children, now living in the United States, have visited the Camarillo airport telling stories about this particular aircraft. Some have even brought flight records.

This is by far my worst work... thanks to my shaky hands... but the best view thus far from Langkawi.
I was seated in my hall trying to fix my SD Card coz the lock slider came off. I looked out my balcony and saw some very nice crimson hues... my balcony faces South so I knew I was at the wrong place... I shouldn't be at home but at the seaside... I should have stayed on at the other end of the island as I was there this afternoon... but this afternoon it was threatening to rain again so I came home.
Anyway, I went to my balcony to see if I could get a clear shot. No luck.
I went downstairs to the first floor, at the poolside and managed a couple of shots. But I was not happy as it looked so beautiful. I thought for a while.
Then I went up to the10th floor. Still no shot.
Very unhappy now... I went to the rooftop. There was a window... but taking a shot from here I would get the penthouse's roof in the frame. Grrrr...
Aha... then I saw the water tank. Should I? I am acrophobic. Being on the roof in itself took a lot of courage. I gathered all my courage and started climbing the metal steps/ladder. Camera around my neck... clinging onto the railings for dear life. When I got to the top... I went.... WOW!!! Legs shaking, hands trembling... I started snapping. Left hand clinging on to dear life... right hand trembling away and snapping away. You can see my hands were shaking away if you saw the picture large. No matter how I changed the ISO or shutter speed it didn't help. Maybe next time I will take my 50mm up instead... yes, there will be a next time. I'll find a way.

I've been tagged by Daifuku Sensei so apparently I must tell you 16 random facts about myself.
1. Help! by The Beatles was No.1 on the day I was born.
2. On 7th February I will have been married for 16 years. That seems so much longer written down than actually living it.
3. I can wiggle my ears.
4. My favourite accident involved me riding a friends Harley Davidson motorbike through a hedge and over a hidden 15 foot drop. I wasn't wearing a helmet but managed to walk away with just a few cuts and bruises. The bike wasn't so lucky.
5. I was 8 years old before I slept in a house for the first time.
6. I stopped smoking a year ago yesterday. I am not a smoking fascist like many ex-smokers. I still think it looks cool and sexy.
7. I play the guitar, very badly.
8. I love chocolate biscuits.
9. My 2nd favourite accident involved me wrecking my brand new car, with less than 100 miles on the clock. This marvellous feat made a appearance in all the national newspapers.
10. Apart from a short spell working in the family business after leaving school, I've been self employed all my working life. The idea of having a boss sends a shiver down my spine.
11. I got myself and my, then new, wife arrested at a football match. I had unknowingly bought stolen tickets from a tout and we were escorted to the police cells inside the stadium. After going through the formalities I managed to persuade the policeman to let us watch the rest of the match from the standing area.
12. On the football theme, I once gave a lift in my car to Sir Bobby Charlton and his wife, Norma. He maybe one of the greatest footballers to play for Manchester United and England and a hero to millions of supporters but he is a bit of a dull conversationalist. Norma is nice though.
13. My Uncle John fought in WW2 and was among the liberators of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. When he told me of the horrors he witnessed he made me promise that I would pass on his story to future generations. I have and will contiue to do so. His main conclusion wasn't that evil men do wicked things, we all know that, but how ordinary, civilized people can allow evil acts to happen in their midst by not caring enough about the lives and fate of their fellow human beings.
14. I played cricket for many years until a rib injury forced me to stop.
15. I once fought with 4 men in a drunken street brawl in Denbigh, North Wales. The lesson I learned was that Denbigh in the 1980's wasn't quite ready for a man wearing make up in public. I think it was my smudged lipstick that really annoyed them.
16. I love skiing. My first skiing holiday was 6 years ago. I had 2 lessons on a plastic ski slope at home, went to the top of a mountain in Switzerland and fell all the way to the bottom. At the end of the week I was bruised and battered but could ski reasonably well. My advice if you want to learn to ski is to have 3 lessons.

Enjaulada en su fino palacio de cristal, la ameba sol Penardiophrys asoma sus más de veinte brazos de hilo desde sus ventanas de encaje, para palpar el agua y recoger de ella, con delicadeza, su cosecha de alimentos.
Nadie ha castigado a Penardiophrys a vivir en una jaula tan abierta, que es como un traje de encajes amplios, ventanales circulares que se asoman a la vida desde las profundidades, a fin de cuentas un vestido de princesa tejido con proteínas, quizá no tan hermoso como el de su maravillosa prima Clathrulina, pero sí exclusivo único y especial como ella.
El delicado cuerpo de Penardiophrys posiblemente se dispersaría como la bruma al primer golpe de corriente si su casa jaula no le diese esa protección, y por ello, sus amplias ventanas sostienen sus finos brazos y un largo cabo, sujeta su esfera de palacio anclándolo a los fondos para que no se pierda en el infinito.
Toda esta arquitectura esférica de óvalos soldados que es jaula, es al mismo tiempo vestido holgado y precioso en el que el delicado cuerpo estrellado de Penardiophrys reticulata se refugia. Podrá salir de él en cualquier momento y lo hará para reproducirse, dividiendo su cuerpo blando como lo hacen otras amebas o fabricando en un misterioso proceso células flageladas que en un proceso de mágica metamorfosis formaran de nuevo estas esferas huecas y vivas.
Penardiophrys reticulata vive anclada a los fondos como un globo sujeto por un hilo a la mano de un niño, entre grumos de sedimento, que mullidos la protegen.
Cada una de las ventanas del caparazón de Penardiophrys está enmarcada por unos nervios finos y apenas visibles que forman una estructura de red con facetas similares; todas ellas presentan un fino orificio central a través del que asoman los finísimos pseudópodos (axiopodios) que pueden alcanzar hasta 3 veces el diámetro del caparazón. subcentrally. El núcleo en esta especie está situado casi en posición central y se ve con dificultad.
La especie que mostramos hoy fue descubierta y descrita por Penard en 1904 bajo el nombre de Hedriocystis reticulata . Pero tras la revisión realizada por Mikrjukov en el año 2000, esta especie pasó a formar parte del nuevo género Penardiophrys denominado así en honor a Penard, bajo el nombre de Penardiophrys reticulata .
Esta interesantísima y rara ameba se ha encontrado en escasas ocasiones, sobre vegetación de esfagnos y en el fondo de zonas pantanosas y ésta, desde el Lago de Sanabria es la primera referencia que se hace de ella en territorio Ibérico.
La fotografía de hoy, realizada a 400 aumentos empleando la técnica de contraste de interferencia, se ha tomado sobre una muestra recolectada a cinco metros de profundidad, el 30 de agosto de 2015, por Laura, Mª José y Tomás en las inmediaciones de la Isla de Moras en el Lago de Sanabria (Zamora), desde el catamarán Helios Sanabria el primer catamarán construido en el Planeta propulsado por energía eólica y solar.

I'm a daylight photographer, I don't like using flash and am not good at nightscenes. Today was a very rainy day, and I needed a 365 shot for today and a blue and white shot for a contest in the Challenge Club ---> So I took a picture of the swimmingpool where I did my ten 50 meter laps tonight and immediately thought about one of my fave music tracks ! Pic taken without flash, I was helped by the huge spotlights lighting the place up and I was the last swimmer, so no ripples :-)
The name 'Clingendael' means 'valley in the dunes'. The original part of the Clingendael building was built between 1643 and 1660 for Philip Doublet, whose family had moved to The Hague from the south of the Netherlands. Several of the Doublets held the office of Treasurer General in the Republic of the Seven United Provinces.
Philip's wife was the sister of the celebrated poet and statesman, Constantijn Huygens, and Philip’s son married one of Huygens’ daughters, Suzanna. The architecture of the original part of Clingendael shares some of the features of the Huygens’s country house in Voorburg, Hofwijck.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Clingendael belonged to the Van Brienens, a prominent family of merchants and bankers. During the period of French rule in the Netherlands, Willem Joseph van Brienen was appointed Mayor of Amsterdam and elevated by Napoleon to 'Baron de l’Empire'.
The last of the Van Brienens in the male line, Arnout, built a racecourse for his guests at Clingendael; it has since been moved to nearby Duindigt. Arnout’s unmarried daughter Marguérite, known as Lady Daisy, laid out Clingendael’s fine Japanese garden.
During the Second World War, the house was occupied by the Nazi Reich’s Commissioner for the Occupied Netherlands, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, and his family.
In 1954, Clingendael became the property of the municipality of The Hague, which it remains today. Since 1983, the Clingendael Institute (the Netherlands Institute of International Relations) has been located in Huys Clingendael.

المنامة: علمت "إيلاف" ان الملك حمد بن عيسى آل خليفة عاهل البحرين سيتقدم وفداً من كبار العائلة المالكة في البحرين " آل خليفة"، وعدد كبير من المقربين من الوزراء والمسؤولين لطلب يد كريمة الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي، الاسبوع القادم لنجله الرابع الفارس الشاعر الشيخ ناصر بن حمد آل خليفة، قائد الفريق الملكي ورئيس مجلس أمناء المؤسسة الخيرية الملكية، ورئيس اللجنة الاولمبية البحرينية، في مصاهرة نحو تعزيز الروابط الاخوية التاريخية بين العائلتين.
وحسب معلومات "إيلاف" فان تاريخ 27 سبتمبر 2009 سيشهد حدثا خاصا ومميزة، اذ ستجرى مراسم خاصة لحفل عقد القران في دبي يحضره كبار العائلتين، على ان تجرى في البحرين مراسم الاحتفال بزواجهما في حفلين ضخمين بعد اسبوع من عقد القران خصص احدهم للنساء قرب قصر والدة الشيخ ناصر بالرفاع الشرقي حيث تم نصب خيمة ضخمة تتسع لالاف المدعوين، وخصص الاخر لضيوف عاهل البحرين ومدعوي حفل زواج نجله في قصر الصخير حيث من المتوقع ان تشهد تلك الليلة احتفالا بحرينيا امارتيا مميزا.
ويحظى العريس الجديد بمحبة وتقدير من الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم تعكسه الصور واللقطات التي تنشرها وسائل الاعلام دائما في تغطيتها للمناسبات التي تجمعهما في المحافل المحلية والاقليمية والدولية على صعيدي الشعر والفروسية.
الشاعر الفارس ناصر بن حمد آل خليفة سيصبح الصهر الجديد للشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم الجديد، وصهرا لزوج شقيقة ملك الاردن، وعديلا للشيخ منصور بن زايد آل نهيان نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير شؤون الرئاسة، وللشيخ محمد بن حمد الشرقي ولي عهد الفجيره المتزوجان من كريمات الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم.

وحسب السيرة الذاتية فإن الشيخ ناصر هو النجل الرابع لملك البحرين ، و من مواليد 8/5/1987، و تم اختياره رئيساً للجنة الأولمبية البحرينية - يونيو 2009، ، كما عين رئيساً لمجلس أمناء المؤسسة الخيرية الملكية بقرار ملكي بتاريخ 27 نوفمبر 2007.
كما امر ملك البحرين في 23 أبريل 2008 عضوا في مجلس التنمية الاقتصادية ، وهو خريج الأكاديمية العسكرية البريطانية - ساند هيرست - أغسطس 2006ـ وخريج مدرسة ابن خلدون الخاصة عام 2005.
وفروسياً فقد أصبح رئيساً للاتحاد الملكي للفروسية وسباقات القدرة وذلك منذ 22 مارس 2003، وأصبح قائداً للفريق الملكي للقدرة منذ تأسيس الفريق في عام 2000 بعد تنظيم البطولة الدولية للقدرة وأول بطولة رسمية يوم 7/4/2000، كما تولى الرئاسة الفخرية للجنة البحرينية لسباق القدرة للخيل عام 2000.
استطاع بفضل جدارته ان يحقق العديد من بطولات القدرة على المستوى المحلي والخارجي، حيث حقق بطولة ثاتفورد في بريطانيا وأسرع زمن 08.16.21 ساعة - يوليو 2007، وحقق المركز السابع في بطولة أوروبا للقدرة في البرتغال - سبتمبر 2007.
كما قاد الفريق البحريني لإحراز المركز الثاني والميدالية الفضية في بطولة أوروبا للقدرة - سبتمبر 2007، كما حقق المركز الأول في دورة المظليين والصاعقة ببريطانيا - يوليو 2008، وحقق المركز الثامن في بطولة العالم للقدرة في ماليزيا - نوفمبر 2008.
وقاد الشيخ ناصر الفريق الملكي البحريني لتحقيق المركز الثالث والميدالية البرونزية في بطولة العالم للقدرة - ماليزيا 2008، كما حقق المركز الأول في دورة الغوص والقوات الخاصة بسلاح البحرية الملكي - فبراير 2009، وحقق المركز الثاني في بطولة عمالقة القدرة 2008-2009، وقاد الفريق الملكي البحريني لتحقيق المركز الثالث والميدالية البرونزية في بطولة كومبيان للقدرة - فرنسا 2009، اضافة إلى انه حقق المركز الأول في بطولة ثاتفورد للقدرة - بريطانيا 27 يونيو 2009.
الشيخ ناصر بن حمد آل خليفة إلى جانب انجازاته الرياضية وشغفه بالرياضة إلا ان لديه لديه هواية القنص والطيور ونظم أول بطولة على مستوى المملكة في مجال الصقور خلال شهر مارس 2005 ولقيت البطولة صدى كبيراً على مستوى المملكة وخارجها.

كما يهوى الرياضة منذ صغره ويمارس كرة القدم ، والسباحة ، والفروسية ، والرماية، و لديه اهتمامات عديدة بالأنشطة المختلفة من الاجتماعية إلى الرياضية، وهو بلاشك فارس للخيل ويعشق رياضة سباقات القدرة وحقق فيها العديد من البطولات، كما انه شاعر وقام بتأليف العديد من القصائد في المناسبات المختلفة.

Spillage of uranium-bearing effluents into the environment at the SOCATRI nuclear facility (Drôme, France)
During the night of 7 to 8 July, for a so far unknown reason, a tank of the Uranium-bearing Effluent Treatment Station (STEU) of the SOCATRI* company flowed over its retention tank. This retention tank being undergoing works was not tight at that time. These effluents, on one hand, percolated in the soil within the SOCATRI facility boundary and on the other hand, flowed to the “Gaffière” river and then to the “Lauzon” river through rain collectors.
SOCATRI initially evaluated the release to about 30 m3 of uranium-bearing solution with a concentration of about 12 grams of natural uranium per litre. A new evaluation performed by the utility lead to lower estimates.
For the sake of precaution, ASN advised the Prefects of the Drôme and Vaucluse départements to take, not awaiting the results of expertises, restriction measures of nautical and fishing practices and use of water for irrigation and drinking purposes.
SOCATRI performed today, July 9th, a removal of the contaminated soil on its site so as to prevent the underground migration of uranium. ASN requested IRSN to confirm the efficacy of such a countermeasure.
The measurements performed by SOCATRI in the water table, in private wells as well as in the neighbouring ponds of the « Trop Long », the «Baltraces » and the « Girardes » do not exhibit an abnormal increase of the uranium concentration from the natural level. Monitoring by SOCATRI of surface waters of the « Gaffière and Lauzon » show a fast decrease of the uranium concentration. The last measured values in these rivers outside the SOCATRI site boundary are of the order of guide value of the World Heath Organisation (WHO) for drinkable waters.
ASN requested the utility to perform measurements in the riverbeds of the Gaffière and the Lauzon so as to detect a possible uranium deposition.
ASN requested IRSN to proceed to independent measurements from those performed by the utility and to determine the best additional means of surveillance of the radioactivity of the water table.
The precautionary measures will be discontinued depending on the results of the ongoing expertises.
ASN will perform an inspection on July 10th, on the SOCATRI site in order to assess, in particular, the precise causes of the event and examine the provisions taken by the licensee.
ASN has provisionally classified this incident at level 1 on the INES scale.
* The SOCATRI facility is involved in support of the nuclear installations of the TRICASTIN site performing in particular maintenance of equipments contaminated by uranium and treatment of uranium-bearing effluents.

Er lag 56 km nordwestlich von Side auf ca. 1000 m. ü. M. im oberen Tal des Eurymedon (heute: Köprüçay) am westlichen Ende des Taurusgebirges.Der Überlieferung nach soll Selge nach dem Krieg um Troja durch den Seher Kalchas gegründet und durch Griechen aus Sparta besiedelt worden sein. Auf Münzen ist der Ort seit dem 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. nachweisbar. Wirtschaftliche Grundlage war der Anbau von Wein und Oliven auf der umgebenden fruchtbaren Hochebene. Politisch bestanden zu Aspendos gute Beziehungen, ansonsten war die Stadt kriegerisch gegen ihre Nachbarn ausgerichtet. Als Alexander der Große durch Kleinasien zog, verbündete sich die Stadt mit ihm, um, allerdings erfolglos, die nahe Stadt Termessos zu belagern. Polybios beschreibt einen Krieg zwischen Selge und Pednelissos 220 v. Chr., in dem Pednellissos Achaios, den Statthalter von Side, zu Hilfe rief. 25 v. Chr. verlor Selge die Selbstständigkeit und wurde in die römische Provinz Galatien eingegliedert. Laut Strabon soll die Stadt zu dieser Zeit etwa 20.000 Einwohner gehabt haben. Seine größte Blüte erreichte Selge zur Zeit des römischen Kaiserreiches. Im Jahr 339 kam es zu einer erfolglosen Belagerung durch die Goten. In byzantinischer Zeit war Selge Bischofssitz. Die Stadt wurde später in seldschukischer Zeit aufgegeben.Es sind die Reste der Stadtmauer, eines Theaters, eines Stadions, der Agora mit Säulenhallen, eines Gymnasions und einer Basilika erhalten. Außerhalb der Stadtmauer lagen ein Aquädukt und einige Kammergräber. ---- Selge (in Greek Σελγη) was an important city in Pisidia, on the southern slope of Mount Taurus, modern Antalya Province, Turkey, at the part where the river Eurymedon River (Turkish: Köprüçay)forces its way through the mountains towards the south.
The town was believed to be a Greek colony, for Strabo[1] states that it was founded by Spartans, but adds the somewhat unintelligible remark that previously it had been founded by Calchas. The acropolis of Selge bore the name of Kesbedion.[2] The district in which the town was situated was extremely fertile, producing abundance of oil and wine, but the town itself was difficult of access, being surrounded by precipices and beds of torrents flowing towards the Eurymedon and Cestrus (today Aksu), and requiring bridges to make them passable. In consequence of its excellent laws and political constitution, Selge rose to the rank of the most powerful and populous city of Pisidia, and at one time was able to send an army of 20,000 men into the field. Owing to these circumstances, and the valour of its inhabitants, for which they were regarded as worthy kinsmen of the Spartans, the Selgians were never subject to any foreign power, but remained in the enjoyment of their own freedom and independence. When Alexander the Great passed through Pisidia (333 BC), Selge sent an embassy to him and gained his favour and friendship.[3] At that time they were at war with Termessos.
At the period when Achaeus had made himself master of Western Asia, Selge were at war with Pednelissus, which was besieged by them; and Achaeus, on the invitation of Pednelissus, sent a large force against Selge (218 BC). After a long and vigorous siege, the Selgians, being betrayed and despairing of resisting Achaeus any longer, sent deputies to sue for peace, which was granted to them on the following terms: they agreed to pay immediately 400 talents, to restore the prisoners of Pednelissus, and after a time to pay 300 talents in addition.[4] We now have for a long time no particulars about the history of Selge; in the 5th century AD Zosimus[5] calls it indeed a little town, but it was still strong enough to repel a body of Goths. It is strange that Pliny does not notice Selge, for we know from its coins that it was still a flourishing town in the time of Hadrian; and it is also mentioned in Ptolemy[6] and Hierocles. Independently of wine and oil, the country about Selge was rich in timber, and a variety of trees, among which the storax was much valued from its yielding a strong perfume. Selge was also celebrated for an ointment prepared from the iris root.[7]
The remains of the city consist mainly of parts of the encircling wall and of the acropolis. A few traces have survived of the gymnasium, the stoa, the stadium and the basilica. There are also the outlines of two temples, but the best conserved monument is the theater, restored in the 3rd century AD.

About a week ago I made some cherry buttermilk ice cream but I wasn't all that satisfied with the final texture. Yesterday I picked up a few peaches at the farmers market and figured what better to do with them then to cook them down and add them to some ice cream so I went for attempt #2 on the buttermilk. All it took was about twice the number of egg yolks and now I have a beautifully textured peach and vanilla buttermilk ice cream.
I was hoping it would last for a while in my freezer but I ended up eating about half of it while shooting this photo. Speaking of shooting this photo, I started out with one light and shooting against a black posterboard background but wasn't too happy with the results, it just sort of snowballed from there.

Looking up at the 205-foot Gothic and art deco Carillon Tower is an experience like no other. Designed by famed architect Milton B. Medary and ornately crafted by noted stone sculptor Lee Lawrie, the Tower houses one of the world’s finest carillons. Concerts from the 60-bell carillon fill the Sanctuary daily. Because the primary purpose of the Tower is to house the carillon, it is not open to the public. On the first floor is the Founder's Room, created as a private study for Edward Bok. Level two and level three contains mechanical equipment. The curator's workshop is on level four. The Anton Brees Carillon Library, located on level five, is the largest carillon library in the world. Between level five and six is a practice keyboard. The carillonneur's studio is on level six. The Carillon fills the upper third of the Tower on level seven.
Directly below the bells, inside the bell chamber is a playing room, housing the clavier or keyboard. There are 211 stairs going from the Founder's Room to the bell chamber, and an elevator to level 6. Bok, Medary and Lawrie made it a goal to create perfect unity and symbolism in the design of the Tower. The scheme for the sculptures and grille work is mostly birds and plants with a few other forms of wildlife depicted. Besides various flowers and trees, you can find cranes, herons, eagles, seahorses, jellyfish, fin fish, pelicans, flamingos, geese, swans, fox, storks, tortoise, hare, baboons, Adam and Eve, and the serpent. The colorful tiles found only in the top third of the Tower depict the perfect balance in nature, species and gender and were designed by H. Dulles Allen.
