Day 3

Inspiration : Kitchen

[The background story]

I love being in the kitchen and I am obsessed with food, the beauty of it and the presentation of a freshly made something-or-other. I'm really getting into being healthy and making things from scratch, so for this prompt I couldn't wait to scrap a photo of my green kitchen.

I'm not sure why the stitch lines around the outside tend to get cut off when I scan in my layout, but they do in fact go all around the page. I also think this looked a lot better before I wrote the journaling...but maybe it'll grow on me.

Journaling reads:

"Thanks to the combination of Pinterest & my house being equipped with a kitchen, I've discovered I love to cook. I've always loved to bake-but I'm teaching myself to cook-from scratch. I love experimenting with recipes & tweaking them to make them my own. I've even been inspired to start a [small] garden & I can't wait to have fresh fruits & veggies to share. One of my fave rooms in my house. May 3. 2013. :)"

This is the two page spread that will kick off my mini book [think number of pages, not size] for my summer full of concerts! So far, I've got another ten shows lined up!

I followed a sketch from Becky Higgins' sketch book [The best of Becky Higgins sketches for scrapbooking] on page 41.

Journaling reads: "Cleveland. Ohio: House of Blues. Year two of Phil Vassar concerts! He puts on such an AMAZING show! I love that he doesn't use a set-list. He takes audience requests and goes from there. He plays the piano like nobody's business-incredible! He tells stories and sings songs and dances around. His version of Piano Man is so phenomenal. Unreal. We had dinner at the HOB before the show, then swiped bar stools on first level so we could see everything. I took pictures, we sang along. What a fantastic start to a summer full of country concerts!"

This is an original encaustic artwork.

Created on a wooden plaque, it measures approximately 5X5 inches, with a depth of 3/4 inch.

For this work, I decided to really play with layering again and again and again.

This work uses multiple techniques, to create a dynamic surface.

-The patterned paper (with the leaf pattern) was laid down as my background pattern

-I covered the sides of the plaque with turquoise wax, and blew it unevenly with the heat gun over the sides

-I laid down a transfer of the budgie with pencil, and then did ANOTHER transfer on top with black carbon paper, to add more contrast and interest

Made using patterned paper & a design from Silhouette Studio.

These are just - some - of the pages in my new Autumn Journal!! I had a blast making them up, using Elsie's previous Autumn kit and digital papers from:

minitoko.com/

www.jessicasprague.com/

www.kitschydigitals.com/

www.puglypixel.com/category/freebies/

I inked them up using distress inks, made extra pages using hand embroidered felt and postcards and envelopes! I stamped my heart out using my fave Autumn themed stamps too and added hand made felt embellishments..

Sooooooo much fun!

Journaling reads:

"Whenever I see that red tool bucket, I know something good is in the works. It belongs to my dad...Mr. Fix it all...Mr. Handyman extraordinaire. He can do it all - & he does. He has been INCREDIBLE with the endless projects I come up with. I love the way he doesn't just help, but continues to teach me along the way! It's a two way street as I'm also teaching him to think outside the box - or bucket. I'm so lucky to have such a great handyman, role model & dad. :)"

I got a request to make some Eclipse card similar to one I had done in green colours... but my Copic had run out so changed it up to red Poinsettias. The Noel was cut with my ScanNCut - then layered with two more white die cuts and one black one before being relaid into the die. I made two this colour and one in greens

Yay! Dana gave me the go-ahead to post the first peek into The Dozens' April kit - she asked me to design some fun monster/candy-love papers and a stamp for this kit, so these are my designs! Inspiration : Why?

[Uploaded 12:30 am, est]

[The background story]

People always think Jon & I are crazy when they find out we have two chihuahua puppies, currently 5 months old. Why get two? Why not get two. We're so in love.

Journaling reads:

"the background story of hercules & harley

our friend julia fosters puppies for the apl. when i found out she had chihuahua pups, i had to visit with them. i had pretty much decided i was getting the only girl puppy before i even got to her house. jon went with me & we both fell in love with another pup-who didn't have a home. that was the end - or beginning. we adopted both pups - hercules & harley. they have other, to play with, rough house with, snuggle with and get into trouble with. we got two so we wouldn't fight over who got to hold the pup. we got two to complete our little family. we got so much more than just two puppies. we got love...puppy love."

Supplies used:

Patterned paper: American Crafts [kraft], Basic Grey [plaid]

Washi Tape: Queen & Co., Bella Boulevard

Letter stickers: American Crafts

Gems: Queen & Co.

Adhesive: Darice [pop dots], Scotch

Pen: Staedtler

Sometimes I really hate having so many different, craft hobbies because there's just not enough time to do them all - but mostly I love that I get to play with so many different colours, textures and techniques!!!

A sneaky peek of my male themed card due to go live on the blog next week.

A new page in my RVA art journal... I used some scrapbooking paper to make paper bunting across the 'top' of the page. I like the colours too - an unusual combo for me!

...what do you want to achieve from this journal, week, month, season?

I've had so much fun creating my own snowmen!!! Love this clear set of stamps!! After stamping the snowballs, I glued them onto vintage text paper which I had glued to white CS. The snowman is mounted with foam tape. Each snowflake has a touch of Crystal Stickles in it's flower's center. The same was used on the eyes and top of his head. Mouth and holly berries were made or highlighted with Stickles xmas red. Hope he / she makes you smile and warm all over ; D

Hero Arts CL368, CL183 (snowflake centers)

PP: Cosmo Cricket , K&Co

Martha Stewart snowflake punch

Stickles Crystal, xmas red

Copics: Y21, G07, BG10, BG72, R29, RV14

This is a close-up of one of the pumpkins on my Ruffled Pumpkin Card. It is hard to capture the effect of the Glimmer Mist in a photo, but it shimmers in real life.

I am in love with this background stamp from Simon Says Stamps - it's so versatile!

Come say Hi!

My son has taken up making these stars and I convinced him t make me a red and blue one....

Using one of the new Doodlebug cards and papers, I made this fun card with the stamp layering technique. Both the crocodile and the circle with the design are stamped in black on the card base, then raised up with pop dots on the patterned paper.

Supplies Used:

Card: Doodlebug

Patterned Paper: Doodlebug [green on crocodile, stripes] DCWV [orange circle]

Stamps: Hero Arts [CL153, CL291]

Ink: Versafine, Versamark

Embossing Powder: American Crafts ZING! [white, black]

Adhesive: Tombow, Scrapbook Adhesives [pop dots]

182 layouts- [one every two days]. 120 cards- [10 every month]. 12 mini books- [1 every month]. 365 photographs- [1 per day]. 208 blog entries- [4 per week]. 6 altered projects- [1 every 2 months].

Patterned paper using a pen tablet and my own handwriting. Made for week 2 of "Pen Tablet Basics for Scrapbookers."

I'm really enjoying this week's challenge on the Hero Arts blog. which is to use trimmings,

odds and ends that have left been over from making other cards. I've been rumaging through my 'left-overs' box, and have been very inspired by the endless possibilities. I've chosen some patterned papers to which I've added some paper flowers, some brads and matching buttons. The Happy Birthday sentiment is the Hero Arts stamp A2153 Little Happy Birthday.

I love doing these little doddles! Despite my outfit being heavily black and grey, I wasn't feeling sad at all today - until I came home and switched in the news,
