Diversionary tactic: since the sweater that I knit for Kris had some issues to work out, I quickly knit this hat for him... but he wasn't home to model it... so, I decided to try it on for size.
Pattern: Ski Beanie, from Son of Stitch n' Bitch book
Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca, black and yellow
Needles: Size US 5 circs
*Bought the patch at an online fan store. I have another one for a hat for me...

Hi ya! My name is Patches! I am a young, energetic, happy-go-lucky dog in need of a forever home. I love to play with toys. I will romp and run, tossing them around in the air, tail always wagging with a big, heartwarming grin on my face. I get along well with other dogs, especially those who will play with me. I also have a sweet, friendly, loving personality. I enjoy being petted and told I'm a good boy. I have been around cats and I pretty much ignore them. I am a good dog who is looking for a home where people have the time and energy to spend with me, play with me and shower me with love and kisses. Could that be you? Apply today! Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance, one session with a certified behavior trainer and microchip. Apply online: www.pawsforliferescue.org
I got this owl patch from Etsy. I had a hole in my sweater, and didn't know how to fix it. I figured it would be good to put a patch on it. This was patch was too big, but it was too cute to pass up. I got a different patch from my sweater, but I have this extra one for a bigger sweater hole in the future. Hehehe.

dad's army patch. he flew around in a helicopter, dropping propaganda on the vietnamese. Hence, litterbugs.
22.5 lb 6-8 yo black and white cocker spaniel. He came in severely matted and was scheduled to be euthanized for lack of space. A kind soul pulled him to a kennel to save his life. He has been boarded for over 4 months now. 2 years Rabies vaccination 7/10/09. He interacts well with other dogs and people, and loves to romp and play.
Update 7/12: Patches went to church this morning - socializing with a lot of children and adults. The sermon was about promises - the 2 different kinds (relationship and performance-related). I thought that Patches was the right dog for this sermon. He is about forgiveness, and both relationship and performance promises. A few interested people from the church - the question being whether he wants love and attention more, or exercise more. Some of the people who want to adopt have a backyard, but have broken bones in their feet and can't walk very well. Patches doesn't know commands yet, jumps up on people, and will need work with house-training. A really nice disposition both with other dogs and people.
Patches went into a temporary foster home for 2 days this afternoon. We need an adoptive or foster home by Tuesday afternoon, or he goes back to WV.
I also found Patch at Goodwill today...I almost didn't see him cuz he was sort of hidden away on a shelf with some Fisher-Price stuff.
I think Patch is probably the third orca plush I've found at a Goodwill...I found a Free Willy plush by Dakin back in 2007, I found a small SeaWorld orca plush at another Goodwill back in 2009, and I found Patch today.
Meet my two-and-a-half year-old grandson, John, on a recent visit to a local pumpkin patch sporting his brand new straw hat.
Unknown species of jumping spider (either a Jotus sp. or a Maratus sp. I am guessing) in the leaf litter of a bush trail. I liked the pretty royal blue iridescent patches the spider had on the back of the head (and parts of the underside and legs). Any I.D. suggestions welcome! [Glenbrook, Blue Mountains, NSW]
