Hi ya! My name is Patches! I am a young, energetic, happy-go-lucky dog in need of a forever home. I love to play with toys. I will romp and run, tossing them around in the air, tail always wagging with a big, heartwarming grin on my face. I get along well with other dogs, especially those who will play with me. I also have a sweet, friendly, loving personality. I enjoy being petted and told I'm a good boy. I have been around cats and I pretty much ignore them. I am a good dog who is looking for a home where people have the time and energy to spend with me, play with me and shower me with love and kisses. Could that be you? Apply today! Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance, one session with a certified behavior trainer and microchip. PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: This is Dorothy--She was a generous gift in July 2024, she is AWESOME, and she is in great shape! She reminds me of one of our favorite Cabbies--Joy Irene--because of her golden blonde hair, but she's so much more vibrant! In July of 2024, two packages from two very generous guys showed up at our door two days in a row! (The guys mailed them at the same time, but the boxes got separated in the mail.) Because there had been some strange thing with tracking, the generous senders actually messaged Shelly the day before the first box showed up and asked if we'd gotten anything. So, it was, therefore, not a total shock to find a giant box. Box one had a note saying there was ANOTHER box. Box two had a LOT of Cabbage Patch Kids! Which was AMAZING! Shelly and I had been LOOKING for more Cabbies. (The lady who regularly has more than one at our local flea market wants ten dollars or more each--I think we paid fifteen for Nathan--and most of them aren't interesting enough to pay more than a few dollars for.) But hadn't had success in a while. Suddenly, we'd been inundated with Cabbies! (Coleco Cabbies hold onto a lot of odor too, so the studio smelled a little weird for a couple days.) What on earth were we going to name them all? A few names jumped out at us, then Shelly suggested borrowing names from our guinea pigs! In the end, this girl was left with "Dorothy" because the "gorgeous" one had been named Penelope, the "monkey face" girl Poppy, the "dirty" one had to be Delilah, and the quirky Cornsilk doll was Winnie (our guinea pig Winnie died before we got these dolls, but her name was PERFECT for the Cabbage in question). However, I think Dorothy FITS her. A brunette would've been a more natural choice for the name, because of Wizard of Oz, but I really do think this girl is a Dorothy. She's like our guinea pig--sweet, vibrant, bright eyed, and lively! She's a real charmer! I definitely feel like she cleaned up better than some of the others and they all cleaned up really well! We're guessing these dolls (who I think the guys thrifted with us in mind) all originally (or most of them) came from the same person's collection. Most were wearing attire that was likely original (all the dates checked out in terms of dolls' stamps and years outfits were used) and all had the look of either being owned by a collector or gently loved by a careful kid. No one was totaled--although a few were really dirty (especially Delilah). But sometimes, even if dolls were manufactured around the same time and owned by the same person, some dolls just age better. (Take our childhood GOTs, Angela and Valerie--same home, bought within a month of each other, but Angela aged so much better.) I'm thinking Dorothy is just one of those lucky girls who fared well over time. Her almost forty years have not dulled her sparkle! She's a gem! If only we could all be like Dorothy--wake up, roll out of bed, and still look gorgeous!

special treats in the pumpkin patch ;)

Though this picture doesn't convey the beauty I saw from the plane this green patchwork farmland along side the brown mountain divide was very striking. In fact this patch work came up later in a building I saw downtown for which I'm pretty certain this might have been the inspiration for the design.

Fall is here. Found this pumpkin patch down on Cape Cod, Massachusetts

22.5 lb 6-8 yo black and white cocker spaniel. He came in severely matted and was scheduled to be euthanized for lack of space. A kind soul pulled him to a kennel to save his life. He has been boarded for over 4 months now. 2 years Rabies vaccination 7/10/09. He interacts well with other dogs and people, and loves to romp and play.

Update 7/12: Patches went to church this morning - socializing with a lot of children and adults. The sermon was about promises - the 2 different kinds (relationship and performance-related). I thought that Patches was the right dog for this sermon. He is about forgiveness, and both relationship and performance promises. A few interested people from the church - the question being whether he wants love and attention more, or exercise more. Some of the people who want to adopt have a backyard, but have broken bones in their feet and can't walk very well. Patches doesn't know commands yet, jumps up on people, and will need work with house-training. A really nice disposition both with other dogs and people.

Patches went into a temporary foster home for 2 days this afternoon. We need an adoptive or foster home by Tuesday afternoon, or he goes back to WV.

Work has began at the D.F.R. in clearing an overgrown patch of ground , in amongst it all is this restoration loco.

This locomotive was built in 1964 for the National Coal Board by the Hunslet Engine Company to the design used to supply to the Ministry of Defence and is thus regarded as an Austerity type locomotive.

The locomotive was employed by the NCB at NCB Manvers Colliery in South Yorkshire and Cadley Hill Colliery in Staffordshire. It arrived at Cadley Hill in a rundown state and was kept for spares.

The locomotive was allocated the number NCB 65 when it was delivered new to Manvers Main Colliery. Its final home was also the last colliery in Britain to use steam into the early 1980s – the colliery closed in March 1988.

Cadley Hill Colliery at Swadlincote in South Derbyshire was one of the last places where steam locomotives were employed. Six locomotives that worked there have been preserved.

Bagnall – Works Nos 3059 and 3061

Hunslet – Works Nos 2857, 3851 and 3889

Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn – Works No 7298

It appears to have had a nomadic life since it was retired by the NCB. It is identified as being based at Rutland Steam Railway for some time before moving to the Flour Mill in July 2010 and then Peak Rail in March 2014. In January 2015 it moved to the Dean Forest Railway.

It is currently being overhauled at the Dean Forest Railway.

* The tin patch Oak tree

Known as ' the Tilford Oak tree '

Thought to be well over 800 years old this oak tree, on the far side of the road on the north side of Tilford Green, was for long considered to be the finest in Surrey. Indeed William Cobbett (1763-1835), a native of nearby Farnham, called it by far the finest tree that he had ever seen in his life.
