Today, Friday 13 September 2019, saw the latest Greater Manchester Police recruits reach the end of their basic training period.

They took part in a passing out parade at the force’s Sedgley Park Centre.

The group, who were sworn in as police officers in June, will now continue with further levels of training on the road to becoming operational police officers in areas all across Greater Manchester.

To contact Greater Manchester Police for a less urgent matter or make a report online please visit www.gmp.police.uk.

You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.

Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.

You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give evidence.

Re-enacting Maine narrow gauge operations from back in the early 20th Century, Monson Locomotive #4 is depicted here with a passenger train, passing a narrow gauge freight stopped on a siding. This image was captured during a March, 2014 photo shoot at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum, on the waterfront in Portland, Maine. Lumidyne lighting was provided by Joey Kelly Photography.

Fans of the Maine 2-footers likely realize that this scene is more reminiscent of the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad than it is the Monson line. The SR&RL was the largest of the Maine 2-footers and had lots of equipment, running passenger, freight and mixed consists. The primitive little Monson line was basically a slate-hauler and most of its equipment was flatcars. It only rostered one passenger car, that being a tiny combine. It never ran at night, never had air brakes and used link and pin couplers right up until the end of operations in 1943.

Waited ages but nothing came past - in either direction...

Baltimore & Ohio's National Limited, on the right, overtakes the B&O's Columbian at Hillsboro. The "chicken wire" EMD F3 on the head of the Columbian is still clad in the B&O's original passenger livery of grey and blue, while the EMD E7 on the National Limited carries the "sunburst" paint scheme.

The National Limited E7 locomotive was custom painted and weathered by Mike Miller.
