BR Standard 5 No. 73082 "Camelot" sits waiting the right away, its driver chatting to the guard, whilst Standard 4 Tank 80151 is posed as arriving in platform 3 with its local service.
From last weeks shots, after getting close to the lump laying on the ground ( me and my camera ) this coyote started slowly wandering off.
ISS and Milky Way over Ngaruroro River, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
There has been a lot of talk today about the 15th anniversary of the occupation of the International Space Station, so here is a shot I took last night of the ISS rising through the core of the Milky Way at 9:30pm.
Coincidentally the ISS has been especially visible from New Zealand over the last week or so, and this pass overhead was the first of 2 last night, and the 10th visible pass in the last 4 days.
We are fast losing sight of the core of the Milky Way in our night sky with the approach of summer, but we will see it again in late January in the morning sky.
I haven't shot astro from this location before, but given that it is half way between the 2 main urban centres in Hawke's Bay, I was surprised at how clear the Milky Way was. Of course light pollution is a problem but in this case it gave me silhouettes of the river banks and some light on the water.
This image is made from 18 photos, taken 1 after another covering a period of about 4 1/2 minutes. These 18 images were then blended in Photoshop, with 1 photo forming the background of the stars, river and land, and the trail of the ISS blended into it from the other images.

A shot I have not done before of trains passing at Weybourne, with a very short train in platform 1 in the form of rail bus E79960 meeting Standard Tank 80080 as it arrives from Holt. Both machines that had short service careers with BR, resurrected and providing delight in the 21st century. The rail bus is making a short visit back from the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston where it is on loan. Owned by the NNR but too small to handle the current passenger numbers the line sees during the summer season, as has been demonstrated while it has been back. Though it will be running mid-week until 27th June, next Friday, before going back north.
An awesome lightning storm flew by Utah Valley this evening. I made it up to Squaw Peak in Provo to catch just the last of it before it made its way over to the Heber Valley and beyond.
I needed a break from studying so I set out to create a very specific image. The result was something entirely different, but to me that is what's so beautiful about creative expression. Intent is important when creating a photo but being open to new possibilities, to truly living in the moment and reacting fluidly to what is around you...Responding to the forces that surround you while you're creating - that is just as special.
This photo is rooted in two thoughts...The first is from one of my favourite movies, Chronicles of Narnia (I read the book a long time ago, I'm sure it's amazing but the visuals in the movie are incredible <3)...The image has to do with the scene where the little girl meets Mr. Tumnus and learns that winter has lasted for a long time. So that connects to the whimsical aspect of the photo. The second part is that this looks like an ad for something. It has that element of sexuality and smoking. The materialism that is symbolized represents how obsessive we have become over consumer goods, over trivial nonsense. The two girls face the same direction, and one even looks straight at the camera. The earth behind them is warm, green and lush but there is no way of knowing whether or not they are aware of this. They are huddling together for warmth. Ultimately, they are immersed in the lifeless cold of winter but there is always hope for summer and what summer represents :)

CSXT West Springfield to Selkirk train M425 rounds the bend on Main 1 as they come out from beneath the East Street / Route 9 overpass right at MP 147 (note the milepost partially obscured at right) on modern day CSXT's Berkshire Subdivision, the one time Boston and Albany Railroad mainline. Freshly rebuilt CM44AH 7577 sparkles in the low afternoon light as they pull down so they can go pick up the outbound Housatonic Railroad interchange traffic off the west end of Track 3.
Looming beyond is the the last remaining building from the once massive former GE plastics plant. General Electric was once the dominant industry in town dating all the way back to 1903 when when it purchased the Stanley Electric Manufacturing Co., which had been established in Pittsfield in 1890. In addition to its plastics division, GE manufactured transformers in town and operated an aerospace division. At its peak during the 1940s, the GE plant employed 13,000 people - in a city of just about 50,000!
The transformer division shut down by 1987 and took 2000 jobs with it, followed by the sale of aerospace to Lockheed Martin leaving only about 500 employees working for the plastics division. That last operation was closed and the remains sold off in 2005 and since that time many of the buildings on the 324 acre site have been removed, and for the past two decades GE has been working to clean and remediate the area from decades of PCB contamination. In addition to being a major employer it was once a huge rail customer though today what little trackage remains on the property is rusty and unused and there is so little rail served industry left that CSXT has long since abolished their last local freight crew in town.

Pictured from a passing train (that was possible on the proper trains for those of you born after 2000!!) is very faded an very stored 37383 seen as I passes Crewe South carriage sidings on August 21st 2003.
New as D6867 in September 1963 this loco was renumbered 37167 under the TOPS numbering system. It became 37383 in January 1998 and was stored in February 1999. Purchased by Riviera Trains in 2002 and moved to Crewe for storage it would remain here unloved until the inevitable disposal of the loco in January 2008.
BNSF Job 803 passes by the Cargill grain elevator in Ferndale which is about halfway done being demolished at the time of the photo. This elevator was once a major customer for the 803. Ferndale, WA, 10/28/2025

Ontario Northland train 214-09 (Engelhart, ON - North Bay, ON) passing through the town of Cobalt behind ONT 2104 - ONT 1809 - ONT 1735 - ONT 1733 and 57 cars
Taken a little while after my other shots at Duntulm, I was sitting trying to figure out my next move when I looked out to the horizon and saw shower after shower blowing along the horizon.
I put my 70-200 onto the camera and fired a few shots off, trying to make the most of the smalll islands caught in the rain, and also the ferry near the left hand side.
