CN 2312 shoves on the end of a southbound stack train flying over the Washburn County E bridge between Standberry and Stone Lake. Horse pastures provided the open gap in tree cover.

It took me a couple of weeks after having the idea for this shot to plan it all out but I got there eventually. Loads of midge bites and a broken flash (note to self: I *really* need to start using sandbags!) .... but lots of fun!
This is a self portrait image inspired by a recent trip to the Isle of Skye. The majority of roads on Skye are single track with passing places dotted along them. After spending a lot of time waiting in these for oncoming traffic it got me thinking. So after searching for the most appropriate passing place I could find this one with the Quiraing in the background seemed the perfect place to,well...'pass'.

the city breathes in light and blur, where motion ghosts between moments. one man stands still, tethered to the now; another dissolves into the current of time. behind them, a quiet theater of shadows unfolds beneath the lamps.
I was having difficulty getting the lighting right on this building. A passing truck sorted it out for me nicely :-)
After getting word that a pair of Illinois Central SD70s were headed west on BNSF's Southern Transcon, I immediately hopped out of bed to snag this duo. The pair of Deathstars, numbered IC 1036 and IC 1000, were slapped on the head-end of westbound manifest BNSF H-CNIKCK. If I remember correctly, Eli and I had made it to Main Street Bridge near the iconic Western Auto Sign above KCT's East-West Corridor just a little past noon. We got word from a friend that the train was already passing Sibley and that the crew was still good until 3 pm, but after sitting there for a while we got word that the train tied down just past Courtney. Maybe we overshotted it a little, but nonetheless still decided to sit and wait. It couldn't take too long to leave Sugar Creek, right?
Wrong. Not long after, we got another tip that a dog catch crew was being sent to take the train into Argentine Yard where it'll terminate. Reluctantly, we decided to head over to Cement City to see what was happening with it, to where we saw that the train was parked on Main 1 with the lights dimmed and another westbound parked on Main 2. About 20 people showed up anticipating the train near the depot. And we waited... and waited... and waited...
By the time this photo was taken, about 6 hours had passed and the Deathstars were finally crewed. Only 4 of us remained trackside at this point, this would be the final train to pass on Main 2 before it would finally depart.
