I was thoroughly enjoying watching the passing storms which were about 60km away as they drifted from west to east along the horizon. Just as the sunset started making the distant clouds glow, another storm suddenly hit us from behind. This was taken through a curtain of pouring rain, hence the slight softness of the detail. Even though I was hoping for it, the lightning bolt was a big bonus!
Later storms that evening knocked out the power for around 8 hours, but thankfully did little other damage despite dumping a sudden 40mm of rain.

Bridget Riley is one of my favorite artists. Often her mesmerizing patterns baffle the eye. This young lady had a good look too and touched her necklace. I wonder why.

A little bit away from my normal stamping goround, just South of Betws-y-Coed is this fantastic little gem well hidden away, Fairy Glen.
I've shot the one in Scotland a few times and they share similarities, while this one is easier to get down to I found it a lot harder to shoot, it had been raining and all the rocks (that I was precariously perched on) were extremely slippery, there was one composition I fancied but I thought it was just too dangerous to try it on a day like today (Pete in being sensible shocker!) but seriously, being on my own there would be nobody to pull me out of the river, or my gear for that matter.
I lierally took 2 shots here that I was very happy with, the lush colours that run up the mossy steep walls are great, as it the deep browns/reds of the deep water, a truly beautiful place. A polariser is an absolute must here as some of the reflections can really ruin an image, think I used a 3 stop as well for the water.
Definitely be coming back again at different times of the day and year. to this spot. Maybe I'll try the more precarious perch next time....

A westbound Burlington Northern freight rumbles through Aurora, Illinois, and passes BN/Metra commuter trains laying over in Hill Yard on Saturday, April 16, 1988. The second unit on the freight is leased Kyle Railroad EMD GP40 No. 3116.
From my garden hide, I recorded this passing parade of birds in just two minutes. In order of appearance they are:
1. Willie Wagtail
2. Male Satin Bower bird, very briefly
3. Male Kookaburra
4. Male Satin Bower bird, sees off Kookaburra
5. Female Satin Bower bird, sees off male
6. A second female Satin Bower bird
7. Male Satin Bower bird returns
8. Two female Satin Bower birds
9. Willie Wagtail
There were very few bird sound on the soundtrack, but there was loud noise from an external source, so I replaced it with what I hope is non-intrusive music.
