The end of January and the very first weeks of February brought large amounts of snow into Austria. Accompanied with days with 8 hours of sunshine, perfect conditions were expected to take a tour to Obdach – a destination that I have been planning to visit for a long time. Initially, I planned to take the last fast train to Graz which arrives there around 1:30 a.m and continue the journey with an early S-Bahn towards Zeltweg. However, as temperatures around – 15 Degrees Celsius were forecasted, I had to rent a room – such temperatures are certainly not the perfect ones to have a tour with a stopover at night. Since I had a room for the night, I decided to start early in the morning – the first destination was Grünbach am Scheenberg. Recently, however, some excitement is associated with tours around Wiener Neustadt as due to the scarcity of spare parts, the Desiros of the series 5022 are occasionally replaced by the ugly old 5047 DMUs. This day, I had a luck as all trains were operated with Desiros. One of them, 5022.038 is passing my spot with R 6427 towards Puchberg.

It was the first time i'd been down the beach for a few days, and it was great just to take in the sun , and hear the sights and sounds. The choughs and peregrines were nesting, and the house martins are back. This shot is for Angharad, a wonderful Flickr friend who was a passing stranger. She cycled from Cardiff to Tenby yesterday, 111 miles, and passed quite close to the beach. She's a star. Passing stranger is by Scott Matthews.

Bridget Riley is one of my favorite artists. Often her mesmerizing patterns baffle the eye. This young lady had a good look too and touched her necklace. I wonder why.

I think this is the longest break I've ever had from Flickr. In early October I was away for a while but then had a medical emergency from which I'm still recovering. It's not as bad as it possibly sounds though and I'm optimistic about a good outcome.

Glencoe, Scotland

When you go through Glencoe for the first time, the atmosphere becomes suddenly very particular and heavy of History! The vast landscapes are breathtaking whatever the light or weather conditions. I would definitely recommend that place as a stop over if you are road trippin' in Scotland. This is where happened the massacre of Glencoe in 1692, in which 38 members of the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by forces acting on behalf of the government of King William III following the Glorious Revolution.

Signal replacement on the former Montana Rail Link main line has been at a rapid pace in 2024, quickly moving to the far west end of the railroad on BNSF’s MRL Fourth Subdivision. The westbound searchlight signals protecting the west siding switch at Noxon will soon fall too, seen here with a westbound BNSF coal train passing the endangered searchlights on July 5, 2024.
