I've always loved the patch job that the SOO Line did on their Milwaukee Road acquisitions. Albeit pretty poorly done in most cases, the black and orange just looks good together in my opinion. Here, I have a pair of Athearn Genesis models: SOO GP38-2 #4804 and SOO MP15AC #1546. Right from Athearn with the patch outs, I only had to make a few minor changes (to the MP15AC mostly). Each model has scale Sergent Engineering couplers and light weathering. All the details on the GP38 are right out of the box from Athearn. On the MP15AC, the horn was changed by a friend of mine, Tom Schubert, who I acquired the model from. I also added black patches on the sand and battery boxes on the cab end, a hand brake chain, and a waste retention tank (not visible).

Thanks for looking!

I'm quite partial to square formats. While the Rolleiflex and Polaroid SX-70 are very different cameras, the square vision is very similar. For me, using one informs the way I use the other.

A pair of Osprey getting started on building their nest on the Willamette River. Sitting here at my desk not so patiently waiting for the return of these beautiful birds which also coincides with the return of the spring salmon.

For me it is the best of both worlds since I get to pursue my two favorite things, fishing and photographing wildlife. I shot these last spring from a boat while desperately seeking salmon.

I think this is sensitive fern. Harder to tell when they're in the party noisemaker stage. OM 90mm macro at probably f4 or so.

A pair of containers in my balcony "rock garden." You can barely see the rocks now :)

Both contain dragon's blood stonecrop (Sedum spurium), and "black" sweet William (Dianthus negrescens). The container on the left also has some hare's tail grass (Lagurum ovatum), and the one on the right has some angel hair grass (Stipa tenuissima), but they're almost completely hidden by the other plants. Neither of these grasses is happy with the relative lack of sun in this spot.

To my chagrin, dragons now bleed pink and green, and black sweet Williams were apparently never black. Sigh.

Ceviche pairs excellently with many different beers. For a fun, fruity pairing, try matching it up with a fruit lambic like Lindemans Framboise. The ceviche’s oceanic and herby flavors match nicely with the strong fruit of the lambic, and they share a tanginess that is fresh and inspiring.

CEVICHE

Ingredients

2 pounds raw shrimp, peeled and deveined

½ pound of fresh local fish, such as striped bass filet, diced into ½-inch cubes

3 limes

1 lemon

1 orange

1 cup fresh raspberries

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium tomato, seeds and liquid removed, finely chopped

¾ cup green onion, minced

½ green pepper, minced

½ jalapeño, seeded and minced

½ bunch Italian parsley, finely chopped

1 teaspoon olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

Boston or Bibb lettuce leaves (for lining serving glasses)

avocado slices (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Using your juicer, juice the lime, lemon, orange, and raspberries.

2. Place shrimp and fish in a large bowl with the fruit juice and the minced garlic. Cover and place in the refrigerator for one hour, or until fish and shrimp are opaque.

3. In another bowl, mix tomato, onion, green pepper, jalapeño, parsley, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Combine all ingredients.

4. Artfully arrange lettuce leaves in martini glasses, and fill with ceviche. Garnish with an avocado slice.
