A male Hoary and a male Common Redpoll. While both pale, the Hoary just has a faint wash of red on the breast.

Sunbirds form monogamous pairs. The Olive-backed Sunbirds breed in April-August. They build a hanging flask-shaped nest with an overhanging porch at the entrance, and a trail of hanging material at the bottom end. Materials used include plant fibres, mosses, spider's web. The nest is lined with soft fluffy seeds (e.g., kapok, lallang grass seeds). The outside of the nest is often untidy and decorated with lichens, dead leaves and seed cases. They usually nest low in bushes and trees, but also close to humans and even in high-rise buildings! 2 greenish-blue eggs with dark brown spots and lines are laid. Males usually don't help in incubation, but may help out in raising the young.

Pair of Red Phalarope. The brightly coloured bird in the fore ground is the female and the duller male is in the background. Roles in this species is reversed with males staying to incubate the eggs and females having no interaction with their chicks.
I was on the way home from grocery shopping with my mother this morning when I decided to go by the pond. I noticed this handsome pair on the pond. I pulled over - grabbed my camera from the truck - and snapped a few while my mother waited in the car. I had to shoot through the bushes. These ducks are so shy - they always seem to be moving away from me no matter how quiet I am. They are beautiful.
