ODC Our Daily Challenge: A Pair

Best seen on black: press L to view.

Flea market droppings.

Went hunting for fly orchids...... were very successful :-) Found around a dozen, some with just a single flower open, others with 2-3 - plus lots more buds.

Hiking up to Hanging Lake I spotted this.

a pair of western grebes in California

Someone on livejournal commissioned me to make these of her and her boyfriend.

They're probably my favorite pair so far, probably because of the sweet grimaces, and the sweet dreads. :D

Although tempted to move on, I decided to wait to see if a freight followed the Inter-Regio service and was rewarded by this distinctive pairing of MRCE Dispolok Nos. ES64U2097 & ES64F4086 at the head of Train 65911, a new Trenitalia container service that commenced in Q2 2010 operating between Germany and Italy via Luino.

Pair of Balloon flowers after evening rain shower.

A pair of silver Ramilletes

Estimate: PHP 150,000 - 160,000

Last quarter, 19th century

Manila

Silver, wood backing

54.5 x 21 cm (21 x 8 in) each

Provenance:

Formerly from the collection of Ramon N. Villegas

Ramilletes used to decorate colonial church altars as what modern bouquets of flowers would serve today. Made from silver sheet cut to shape like a hydria vase, then meticulously chased and embossed with intricate patterns of delicate flowers and foliage surrounding the scrolled cartouches and ovals, the open central hole resembling the lunette of a monstrance, and the inward scroll feet.

Interestingly, the flower and leaf designs are reminiscent of the inlay designs found in a Bulacan comoda. Topped by a receptacle for candles. Done in Naturalistic style popular in the mid-19th century, coinciding with the last phase of the Rococo period.

This is a picture of two geese I found walking next to Lake St. Benedict. Geese, like many animals, are important to our environment because of there ability to fertilize the soil. When geese eat plants the seeds are sometimes consumed as well. The seeds are then dispersed when the goose poops. This is good for the environment because it spreads out the location of plants and gives the soil nutrients. #BenU #Ecology #BIOL180 #Fall2019 #image1

Rear view of a pair of classic Minis. The blue one at least looks like a Canadian market Mini 1000 but the other might be slightly older.

A pair of Osprey getting started on building their nest on the Willamette River. Sitting here at my desk not so patiently waiting for the return of these beautiful birds which also coincides with the return of the spring salmon.

For me it is the best of both worlds since I get to pursue my two favorite things, fishing and photographing wildlife. I shot these last spring from a boat while desperately seeking salmon.
