She wasn't alone, as he had a large harem of a dozen other cows nearby. He must be good at that bugling and battling game.

What a nice surprise to spot a pair of Swainson’s Hawks, sitting on top of a power pole, and eating a freshly caught animal. Swainson’s Hawks eat mainly mammals and insects. Mammals make up the bulk of the diet during breeding season, when adults prey on ground squirrels, gophers, mice, voles, and rabbits. This image was taken right outside the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve in Woodbridge, CA.

Spotted Flycatcher - another one from earlier in the year. The pair were feeding chicks that fledged successfully, wonderful to watch these normally illusive birds. Another unforgettable experience!
This pair of red-whiskered bulbuls (pycnonotus jocosus) took up temporary residence high in a tree, from which vantage point they harangued the local area as only bulbuls can. Photographed in Trou D'Eau Douce, Mauritius.

Many years ago my 10 year old son went on his first school residential trip. One of their visits was to Skipton Castle where he decided to buy me these ear rings as a present. Only problem was, I didn't have pierced ears at the time. What could I do but have my ears pierced!

The Great Blue Herons are nesting again and occasionally putting on a show. They are both prehistoric, majestic and elegant all at the same time. One of my favorite birds. (Ardea herodias) (Sony a1, 200-600 lens @ 559mm, f/6.3, 1/2500 second, ISO 640)

These two Great Egret chicks were waiting for a parent to bring them food as alligators swam beneath the nest, a constant danger if they were to fall out. These chicks were pretty big and didn't have to much further to wait until they fledged.
