These two ravens were flying around and around near each other in what I believe was a courtship flight. Here they just happened to have wings aligned when the camera caught them.
A raven tidbit: I'm reading an interesting book about ravens: Mind of the Raven, by Bernd Heinrich. After detailing how one of his attempts to study the ravens had been thwarted by the ravens figuring a way around his design, he makes this remark: ". . . I conclude that my graduate advisors had been right; perhaps one should indeed not try to study an animal cleverer than oneself."

Two western painted turtles in a water filled ditch that parallels the roadway.
In the midst of all the migratory action taking place at the refuge through the morning fog, this pair of Canada Geese were becoming more and more visible at it lifted from the water. This pair will likely make the refuge their home for spring breeding and were likely checking out the territory.
Always wanted to try using denim for soles. Finally, I found time to cut my old pair of jeans to make this pair. I used them both for outer and inner soles, with some batting in between. I like the result, especially the fact that denim sole makes this pair machine-washable! The tops are from vintage fabric.
The Kelp Goose is a striking species of coastal areas of southern Chile and Argentina. They are strikingly sexually dimorphic - adult males are all white while females are fancier, with brown backs and white bars on black underparts and an iridescent green wing bar. Both sexes show intensely yellow legs. The species forages on kelp along rocky shores in pairs and rarely forms larger flocks like other species of South American sheldgeese. A pair of Jays at the lake. I was watching to see if they would pick up nesting material but they were too wary.....
The pair of resplendent quetzals taking a rest from the task of building a nest in an old tree. For more than two hours the pair traded off going up to the tree where they were building their nest and slowly removed rotting wood.

These earrings are a variation of the disk and pendant type that began in the 6th century BCE and enjoyed popularity throughout the Greek world during the Hellenistic period. Here the disk has been modified into a pediment shape, and the pendants are in the form of female heads with separate beaded pendants.
