Several attempts were made to construct a breakwater in Wick Bay between 1863 and 1873. The end of the breakwater was capped by an 726 tonne block of concrete that was secured to the foundation by iron rods 9 cm in diameter. In a storm in 1872 Stevenson watched in amazement from a nearby cliff as both cap and foundation, weighing a total of 1225 tons, were removed as a unit and deposited in the water that the wall was supposed to protect. He rebuilt the structure and added a larger cap weighing 2358 tons, which was treated similarly by a storm a few years later.

This re-issue line of Outer Space Men began
with the toy designers, The Four Horse Men.
Then at some point Gary Schaefer kept going
after the Four Horse Men moved on ?
Then the line became the OSM LLC.
Led by Gary with continued permission of Mel
Birnkrant . The original Outer Space Men bendy
figures designer....
Anyway, at some point, they started coming up with
all new characters. The original line didn't have any females.
Now it has several. Mostly Consorts of original OSM characters. And new human characters . ( To take the place
of Major Matt Mason , no doubt. )
Astrodite is the consort to Commander Comet .

Walking on the Outer Barrier, Hodbarrow, close to Haverigg Lighthouse. The barrier, a mile-and-a-quarter long and forty feet high, is one of many industrial relics in the Millom district. Both barrier and lighthouse date from 1905. The former prevented tidal flooding of haematite ore mines, the latter was an important navigational aid for the many ships that used to dock here and alongside Millom's Salthouse Pool pier.
This spring Design Is Love hosted another of their Design Fund projects. The contest was to design a poster with an "Outer Space" theme. The cool part was the winning design would be screen printed using a choice of 2 inks and 1 paper color. I chose the black speckle tone paper with a metallic gold and a white ink. I may make this available on my society6 page for purchase but I really think it works best with the ink and paper combo.
I'm definitely going to pick up a print of the winning poster for myself as well.
