Somebody out there trying to kite board.

The light and weather were rather strange today [Sunday]. The cliffs at Dover are shrouded in sea mist and the light was rather subdued. There were more boats in both the inner and outer harbour than I've seen for ages, although it is Sunday of course.

The entrance to the Outer Bay Exhibit greets us with a quote from Anne Stevenson.

When this picture was re-printed in the Herald a quarter of a century ago the caption read: "The bustle of a busy harbour emanates from this scene of the outer basin at Arbroath almost 100 years [125 years] ago. The names of the four or more sizeable sailing ships at the quays are unknown, but the clinker-built sailing skiff in the foreground, 16AH, was the Helen and Anne, owned by Charles Smith. The tripod arrangement on what is now the oiling quay was a type of crane, though what the function of the box-like structure was remains shrouded in the mists of time. The picture is one of a series taken by Captain James Falconer, master of the Arbroath-based schooner 'Dart', which was built at Chepstow in 1826. They were loaned to the Herald by his great-grandson, local skipper Colin Falconer."

The Museum's south doors open onto the Outer Peristyle, the largest garden at the Getty Villa. It is adorned with hedge-lined pathways and circular stone benches. Plants favored by the ancient Romans, such as bay laurel, boxwood, myrtle, ivy, and oleander, are planted around a spectacular 220-foot-long reflecting pool. Bronze sculptures, replicas of statues found at the Villa dei Papiri, are placed in their ancient findspots. A peristyle, or covered walkway, surrounds the formal garden and leads visitors past illusionistic wall paintings to spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

Tonight has put me into all sorts of moods. From saying goodbye to my love, coming home to an empty apartment, watching a couple series of tv shows to fill the gap of my satisfaction for a fleeting moment. Thinking about the entire week and how stressful it has been, all the while eating donut holes and thinking about how I SHOULD be working out or preparing for my "pro bono" photoshoots tomorrow. Somewhere in between Private Practice's emotional scenes and talking with my love on the phone where he has arrived three hours away from me -- I decide to put in Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Working out has never been fun for me. Today is not the day for that to change. After a quick shower and fussing around with clothes to wear, here I am. Enough of my night... what about yours?

All the buildings nearest the church were reserved for the monks; visitors were generally not allowed there. In contrast, the outer court was a more public area, accommodating a wide range of services and storage buildings within a strong perimeter wall. This is an unusually complete example.
