To my surprise its been over 2 years since I last photographed diving Kingfishers. However as the pool was frozen over today I took the oppurtunity to break a hole in the ice and watch the master getting some much needed food at this difficult time of year.

www.scottishphotographyhides.co.uk 1st of September a day to remember..... A second visit to the site today and it was even better than last time. Lots of great pics over the weekend, but the highlight was getting Mum and Baby together. Yet again all thanks to Nigel Miller for giving me this oppurtunity.

This was a golden oppurtunity for me, it was taken from the 3rd floor of where I work this afternoon (Tuesday 7th April) for the 2009YIP Group! ;)

Morning walk in the Kaggadaspura walking track in a Dec 2016 winter gave me the oppurtunity to see this bird in close quarter.

This was the first glimpse.

Once again a huge thanks goes to Mr Sparrowhawk himself Ian Todd for allowing me the oppurtunity to photograph one of my fave birds at the nest. No one knows more than me the work from start to finish that goes into these projects and the least I can do is give credit where its due. All to often I see the work I do being worded by other photographers in images taken at my hides in a way to deceive that it was them that did the groundwork.

Now dont get me wrong, as paying clients they are under no obligation to credit me, but when they make it out to be themselves that have doine it all it is rather annoying and does nothing but make themselves look stupid and a bit desperate. I just wanted to get that off my chest as there has been quite a few this year ;)

I say this quite often but I actually think this is my favourite image of the year!

Not because i think its technically good or anything like that but because of the story behind it. A tale of woe that turned into utter joy! We had arrived at the location excited for hoarfrost and fog but had neither. Despondantly trudging around the lower levels of the woods, I was getting more and more depressed about a missed oppurtunity. However my mate Davey boy convinced me to push up onto the plains above and boy was that the right call ( never tell him I said that!).

We had some hoarfrost, thick fog and these beautiful pine woodlands that at first were not looking too good, just a hint of frost in places but otherwise quite bland. It was a definite improvement on what we had further down though so I perked up and got about seeking out the compositions.

After about 30 minutes it started to snow quite heavily and I was deep onto the plain at this point photographing some stunning lone trees. I decided to head back to the pines and after a hard slog was greeted with these stunning scenes with thick, fluffy flakes stil falling around me. It was a moment of pure joy for me as these were EXACTLY the conditions me and Dave had talked about wanting over winter. The only problem was trying to get to places with this amount of snow on the ground.....but we had timed it to perfection and it had staerted once we were actually at a location! Awesome!

Anywho, Merry Xmas to all who have managed to read this far. I appreciate every single one of you for following, liking and commenting on my work, you really don't know how much it means that others appreciate what I do to take a moment of their day to brighten mine. Thank you.

This picture is #25 in the 100 Strangers Project - Round 3

Meet Nelli

Another long gap since my last stranger click, with work and other priorities leaving very less time to venture out. Of course the the cold winter months and short days don't help much. So I am quite happy to have moved the counter forward, with a amazing stranger such as Nelli.

In fact, I was actually in Bethesda for a planned shoot - the model being a prior stranger from the project. But unfortunately she had car troubles which made travel difficult and we had to reschedule. But since I was on my way, and the day looked good, I decided to continue and stroll around hoping to spot someone striking to photograph. Given the wonderful set of personalities I have had the oppurtunity to photograph so far, its been rather difficult to find folks that inspire you the same way. But luckily for me, in a few minutes of walking, saw Nelli at a distance and the stranger bells started ringing immediately. She had a sparkling personality that made her stand out in a crowd, and her overall style including those pants were definitely eye catching. I quickly made my way as she and her friend Adam stood by the parking meter. I managed to reach them just as they were about to walk away, and made my request. As much as I am open to being refused by folks, and its quite understandable, in this instance I was really hoping for a positive response, and really happy when Nelli agreed.

I didnt want to take up too much time, so chose a spot close by with a narrow lane flanked by buildings offering open shade on a sunny day. Although the background had a lot of clutter and distractions I was confident the blur with the shallow aperture would actually make it appealing. Also, it was slightly quieter and had less people walking by, as opposed to the main street.

To say that Nelli was an absolute live-wire would be a understatement, as she immediately channeled her "model" with a spring in her step. Quickly moving into poses, with minimal or pretty much no instruction, with amazing ease - just a mere suggestion of a pose and she already had moved into position. Its great to have a striking stranger to photograph, and when they have such great attitude and confidence, you can thank your stars. Adam stood by with a fond approving admiring smile never leaving his face, as we shot a few pics.

Nelli, is a fitness instructor which honestly should not be a surprise. Her hobbies include photography as well being photographed having dabbled in modeling in her "younger" days. Of course going by the ease of her posing and expressions, this shouldnt be a surprise either. Her favorite memory - having her babies - yes she is mommy of two which was quite a surprise to me. What's her favorite quality of herself - her positive attitude which honestly was ver visible throughout our interaction, as was her confidence and high energy vibe.

Thanks a lot Nelli for being a part of this project (and of course Adam for the support). It was pleasure making your acquaintance and wish you the very best. Hope you do like the pictures and I sure look forward to working with you again

You know...sometimes, things just don't go your way. A project doesn't meet your expectations, you don't get the oppurtunity you desired, you start to get lazy and your work suffers for it. It's hard not to feel like a failure during those times. It's hard to not beat up on yourself. It didn't seem to bad at first, but man, it sure bites you in the butt later.

But hey, that's how we learn, right? How do you expect to grow if you don't make mistakes? There could be a positive side to the feeling of failure... it's just hard to see that side of it. But I guess there is hope. I'm here for a reason after all.

I was really hesitant to upload this (hence why I'm posting so late) because I didn't want to rant, but it's been hard these past few days and sometimes I gotta vent through my art. It's all good in the hood though, like I said, failure happens, it's how we learn to be better. It'll be ok, I just need to buckle down and get to work.

From this day.

Thank you so much to Zoe for the testimonial, you are such a blessing, dear.

Would anyone be interested in a Flickr gathering in New York City this summer? There are so many of you I would love to meet, and Central Park is always a good oppurtunity for photos. ;) If you would like to come to New York, send me a Flickrmail or a message on Facebook so we can start working it out!

IT WON'T LET ME TAG ANYMORE PEOPLE but consider yourself tagged if you see this!

I saw these three different animals together in a canal and couldn't resist the oppurtunity to get them in one frame.

... Have a nice saturday...

Just took advantage of an quick oppurtunity to take some shots of this fine SLS. Wish I had more time and a better location but as it wasn't a formal photoshoot I just enjoyed the car and took some pictures. I experimented a lot on the editing so this probably won't be the norm.

Mantra: "Truth and love become light"

🇺🇸

What does the voice of fear whisper to you? Fear speaks to you in logic and reason. It assumes the magic of love itself. Fear tells you: I want to make you safe.

Love says: You are safe.

Fear says: Give me symbols. Give me frozen images, give me something that I can rely on.

Loving truth says: Only give me this moment.

Fear would walk you on a narrow path. Promising to take you where you want to go.

Love says: Open your arms and fly with me.

Every moment of your life you are offered the oppurtunity to choose: Love or fear. To tread the earth or to sore the heavens.

Why would fear want to oppose truth? Because truth has the power to transform fear.

🇦🇹🇩🇪🇨🇭

Was flüstert Dir die Stimme der Angst zu? Die Angst spricht zu dir mit Logik und Vernunft. Sie nimmt die Magie der Liebe selbst an. Die Angst sagt dir: Ich will dich in Sicherheit bringen.

I bet everyone is wondering why in the hell I would post a cemetery picture on Thanksgiving. Well, Elmwood is a different sort of place. It is a place that once you cross the bridge, you are transported into a world of a different time. It is welcoming and comforting. I am Thankful that it is only a few blocks from my home and that when I need to escape my walls, I can escape there. I am thankful to be alive and not have a life cut short, and I am even more thankful for the oppurtunity to be a visual witness and messenger for the places over looked in life. I am off to cook a feast for Ken and his Mom, I will get some pictures of it later. I hope that you all have a good day, and whether you are here in the US or scattered around the world, be thankful for every moment you are alive, even if the moment feels like hell, at least you are alive.

Off camera flash SB910 held above as I walked by,

Back from my most amazing trip to Beara yet.It was my first proper photo trip down in nearly a year.I couldnt believe my luck, beautiful sunrises, sunsets, painted skies, moonlit and starry skies at night. To top it all off got some shots of a wild billy goat over the rugged beara coast and a family of other wild goats with a few newborn kids playing in the fields and over the rocks,a realy special experience..I had all these amazing places to get too as i wasnt happy with some of my previous shots.I really couldnt have timed it better and every place i got to came up trumps.

This beautiful big view awaits you when you round the hills from near Urhan and i was planning on getting here to catch the morning glow on the headland,i managed to get the other shots i wanted too.My jaw nearly hit the floor when i saw this, never in my wildest dreams did i imagine i would see this big beautiful full red moon setting just off the point in one of my favourite plces.I slammed on the brakes jumped out and set up as i knew it could be gone in any minute.I managed to get about 6 or 7 shots before it dissapeared.Probably a once in a lifetime oppurtunity oppurtunity for me as it is a near 3 hour drive from my house down here.

SWIM, SWIM as fast as you can! If mom can't get you nobody can.......lol

This youngster sees his golden oppurtunity to get away from his parents for a little while....

Never one to miss an oppurtunity to run!

There is always time for a photo oppurtunity

Baldy sitting up on a branch looking for an oppurtunity to come by, it is just about Dinner time.

I waked through this serene and picturesque bamboo forest in Arashiyama near Kyoto, Japan along with several other tourists. For a moment, I pondered that I would never get an opportunity to make an image without few people in my frame. But it started raining and I found my bliss...the path started clearing up and the colors got saturated.

As a wise man once said: "Opportunity, sooner or later, comes to all who work and wish."

May 2009 Give One And All The Oppurtunity To:

1. Keep it together.

2. Mend Everything that we wish we had earlier.

3. Lead a crystal clear life, on the exterior and within.

4. Settle differences.

5. Let our actions Mirror our conscience.

6. Apologise to people who deserve it.

7. Sincerely aim towards self betterment.

8. Respect elders and the elderly/ Empathise.

9. Dare to do all the things we have never done.

10. Breathe.

11. Be thankful for all we have, including our lives.. instead of pursuing what we wish we could have had.

A night shoot at RAF Conningsby 13th October 2018, a great oppurtunity to get up close to the RAF GR4 Tornado, a plane that really packs a punch.

This is a picture from last week, but I liked it so much that I decided to use it for Bike Wednesday. I shipped Sam out to Vancouver yesterday and I'm going through bike withdrawals, partly fueled by anxiety over him being shipped via Greyhound in a shoddy cardboard box.

I just wanted to take this time to say thank you to everyone who has supported me in regards to my upcoming trip, both in my fundraising and with positive, supportive comments. I truly feel blessed to be part of such a loving, compassionate and inspiring community and I hope that one day I will be able to return the favour to all of you.

Joining Flickr, I never would have thought it would play such a vital role in my day-to-day life but it has and here is an example of these two worlds working as one. Over $500 of the two thousand I fundraised came from amazing friends on Flickr. I honestly couldn't have gone on this trip without the support from you all and I am eternally humbled that you've given me this oppurtunity, I know that I won't take it for granted.

Thank you.

Well the Cuckoo is sadly over for another season. He will be heading back to Africa any day now. The 1st day I have had no customers since the 16th of April so I took the only oppurtunity I had to get hime on wide angle. What a season it has been with another 100% hit rate. By far the best ever with over 100 clients getting mobbing shots some of which were truly spectacular. A huge thanks to all that booked this hide and lets hope its more of the same in 2020, Many Thanks Alan

when i was a kid i remember wanting to go here so bad.. and i got an oppurtunity to i was so stoked i walked all 3 miles of this wall, my mind was fucking blown.. since this day i've never been the same.

Shot with Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 DG Macro.

Really nice early spring day today so took the oppurtunity to have a wander through the woods.

A shot I had seen all week but never got the oppurtunity to stop. Yesterday though I did and because of the early morning mist the Sun was blocked out enough to get the form of it captured perfectly. This is in Edenderry in my hometown of Portadown, Northern Ireland. The arch you see on the right with the flag is the memorial arches erected each year in memory of the Battle of the Boyne.

A trip to Mayfield lavender fields in Surrey provided a great oppurtunity for some Macro work with so many bees about.

I spent a wee bit of time yesterday on Google Earth looking for somewhere a wee bit different with-in the Angus district and found this , and strangley enough there does not seem to a lot of activity on this area on Flickr . If you do fancy going up here for a nosey then be prepared for a wee bit of an uphill walk , not to steep but steep enough . Its actually not the easiest place in the world to get to as I found out , but by the time I headed of and eventually found it I had lost the sky that I had kinda hoped for , this would be facing approx Sunset at this time of year but there are also other photographic oppurtunities to be had and definatlely somewhere I shall be heading back to , and as Flickr is here for sharing then I thought that I would just share this with you all , the light was pretty bad by the time I got here so I took 2 exposures ,one for the foreground and one for the sky and blended them in photomatix. Anyone that fancies going up here but not to sure of how to get here just F.M. me and I'll give you directions

HAPPY NEW YEAR! i know im 3 days late... i was out of town :D

i wish you all a happy 2010, and i hope you all get bombarded with beautiful photo oppurtunities every single day of the year <3

& i send you my peanut buttery love. hahahahaha :)

2010. thats crazy.

Today, myself, and a number of notable AFOLs, had the pleasure of being invited to breakfast by LEGO - where we had the oppurtunity to get sneak peeks at upcoming sets, yummy treats, and some awesome swag.

And absolutely no spoilers, but OMG there is some great stuff coming.

It was a year with lots of lightnings, so i had lots of oppurtunities for testing before i get this nice shot

We were blessed with great weather during the majority of the trip. For the average human being that is. Weather you would wish for sun bathing at the pool. Cloudless days. Often times atmospheric beauty lies right on the cusp of stormy weather. Oddly enough 50% chance of thunderstorms is a God send for landscape photographers, unfortunately there are no guarantees. For 2 days prior to this day we had empty skies and we finally saw a change in the weather. Having previously visited this location the day before, I knew it was a solid scene so I decided to hike back to it and was ecstatic about the oppurtunity unfolding in front of me. About 1 minute after this was taken, the susnet became a dud, rats.

Some times it is easy and other times it is hard, but it all averages out to be well worth it in the end.

NS 9725 leads a rather short, fast moving MNPAL with 2 other NS units behind it on this cold, dreary, and wet afternoon. UP has done a lot of brush-cutting recently around Hudson, opening a few more oppurtunities for shots. The recent brush cutting has resurfaced a couple original telegraph poles on the hill that were originally covered in trees. It's very cool to see it still around in some capacity on the Altoona Sub.

During my first own run nightshoot for In Search of Steam, I couldn't resist the oppurtunity to shoot through the door. In a scene straight from the 1950's (if you ignore the lining slightly visible on Caledonian No. 828), Ivatt No. 46512 simmers outside the shed while roommate No. 57566 sits cold inside, just waiting for a fire to bring her to life for her next duty.

An oppurtunity to head over to Treasure Island around sunset was too good to miss. It's probably one of the best places to get a shot of the San Francisco skyline, along with the Bay Bridge. The fog was rolling in from the right in this shot, but the colours were still doing their best to shine through. This is the only 'golden hour' shot I managed from the city due to the fog, but it's definitely a favourite.

One of the great things about photography is that a long drive just means more photo oppurtunities! This is one of oppurtunities we passed driving to Anniston to shoot with the North Central Alabama Photographers this past Saturday!

An empty fountain presented a unique oppurtunity. Kodak Tri-X (800 ISO), Pentax MX.

i am really quite tempted to tell you the whole story behind this photo, but i guess that would probably take away the fun of interpreting it yourself! i would love to hear your own interpretations of this, and maybe in a few days i will write my story on here :)

i go away tommorow with my best friend Rachel Poxon, for a whole week. although it will be a good photo oppurtunity, i won't be on here for a while, so i guess this is a farewell upload until then!

Regno Unito, Londra, Heal’s staircase, Tottenham Court Road, Primavera 2013

Very close to my hospital, in the heart of Fitzrovia there is one of the most famous staircases in London...the heal's staircase...a very good photographic oppurtunity after work! The bronze cat sculpture was made by the French sculptor Chassagne. Sir Ambrose Heal, the owner of Heal's at that time, bought it in 1925, planning to sell it in the store; he liked it so much that this never happened.

There's more to Geroldsee than its chalets and lake. A 90 degree turn shows off an idyllic mountainscape layered with trees and cliffs.

It was our second to last day abroad—I was coming down with a fever and incessant coughing, so I was tempted to spend this last oppurtunity indoors with a cup of tea. But in early October, it was hard to find sunlight, much less beautiful sunsets, so when the sky looked exceptional a couple hours before sunset, we made the half hour drive to Geroldsee.

Before my first trip to Germany two years ago, I imagined this to be a common scene in Bavaria, but came away disappointed by Germany's dismal and cloudy outlook this time of year. What a treat to see Bavaria again, and in a much better light!

3-shot blended exposure.

The Leicester Caribbean Festival 2009 was an excellent oppurtunity to take some photos. This was part of the prcession, there were 2 people controlling the whole thing. As you can see it wasn't exactly sunny but the rain held off till I finished taking photos!
