My sister was given the oppurtunity to do some interior design work for one of the homes featured in this year's Homearama.
She wanted me to go out and snap a few photos for her portfolio. These are a few of the better looking shots I think. I may add more if I have time to edit them some.
Aliice and Chloe are two VERY talented models. I would've liked to take more photos of them, but this was not my project (this was an in-between shot and I just happened to have my camera). They are not only goregous girls, but they are very self directed and have their own ideas for shoots, as well.
Hopefully, this is not the last time I have the oppurtunity to shoot these two girls.. it was a pleasure!

July 4th:
After school, I went to a mall in Osaka with the other YFU exchange student Diane! It was incredibly fun. We did purikura. You enter a little room and take a ton of pictures really quickly. Differently-colored backgrounds slide down behind you. Then you use a computer to select things like cartoon hats or phrases to place on the pictures. The pictures print out as super-tiny stickers, and they're incredibly adorable!
July 5th:
As today was the final day of testing, there was a school wide assembly held. I had spent all day in the library, and the other YFU exchange student and I were the first ones into the gym. I jumped at the oppurtunity to sit in the very front, so waited as everyone filtered in. I started noticing though, that all the boys where in the front. I thought that the boys and girls were seperating each other as they always do, but then a teacher called me back to sit with the girls. It is a rule that the boys sit in the front, and girls in the back. There were also only male speakers, and singers. It really pissed me off. The girls are upset about it, but you can tell they're used to it. I had the a huge impulse to run up to the front, sit down, and say, "Too bad, I'm sitting here whether you like it or not." During the assembly, I took out the huge necklace I was hiding under my uniform, and stopped trying to hide my red socks. An inner-punk I never knew I had in me is slowly emerging. But not in a bad way. Rebels can be smart, educated, and classy. A week or so ago, I wrote in my journal, "I love the teachers with the quirky sides - they follow the rules, but secretly, they want the walls of oppression to come crumbling down. They're part of the system but also slowly picking at it. They're brilliant." I think people outside of a culture creating change is a touchy thing. These usually are a culturally distructive force. But I think Japan can progress in this way while still retaining traditional culture. I've been asked to write an essay of school life, and I've decided to not suger-coat it. I'll include what I believe is the good, and bad, including the sexism. If a school is teaching it's students that men are valued more than women, they are not setting people up for success.
Ahaha, it was so funny when the school song was played. No one would sing along to it, so the teacher in charge played it over and over. The final time, only one boy out of the entire school sung to the piano, and he did it at the top of his lungs, screaming the lyrics. lol.

Shot with Kat at the House of Nightmares Group shoot on 11/29/08. It was a blast doing this set in a dark, cold, and dirty basement. If anyone ever has the oppurtunity to work with Kat.... Do NOT pass up the oppurtunity!
Shot with a Nikon D300, 17 - 200 MM VR lens and a SB800 flash. I used 2 Britek 1500 watt strobes (1 behind an umbrella diffuser and the other as a main with umbrella) to balance out some light in this dark warehouse basement.
Bhakti Summer Sangha 2016
The second year of the Bhakti Summer Sangha was a great success, as it gave an oppurtunity to the younger generations to explore spirituality and practice activities such as meditation, kirtan, satsang, seva, and much more among their own peers.
The Summer Sangha has a schedule built around the 9 forms of Bhakti, so that each day the kids and young adults a taste of each of the forms of devotion. The participants are getting a chance to participate in workshops on music, on meditation, and throughout everything, on building a deeper and sweeter relationship to God - in the Guru, in His many many avatars, in the people, and especially within themselves.

I can't wait for the meetup this summer! We're going to spend a day in New York City, plus a bunch of us are going to be camping on Long Island for a few days in the woods, you know that means photo oppurtunities ;) It's going to be so much fun, and if you want to come and you think you won't be able to afford the travel, definitely send me a message and I will do my absolute best to get you here, I'm rather an expert in cheap travel, haha! I really need to get a list of everyone who's coming, so if you want to or are plannng on coming, let me know! (:

The Best Squad Competition is an All American Week tradition where squads from throughout the Division complete an obstacle course, a warrior skills lane, a combat lifesave skills lane, and a stress shoot for time. All American Week is an oppurtunity for Paratroopers, past and present, to come together and celebrate the history, heritage and pride of being a member of the All American Division. This year's All American Week theme is, "Celebrating a Century of Service!"

I have always been a big fan of images that show subjects in their environment. I love using wide angle lenses when doing this type of thing. I was recently hired to shoot a nighclub. The client, who was an entertainment booking agent for the club wanted photos of the place packed with people. I decided to arrive quite early to take some architectural shots with the place empty and assess the lighting situation. While I was waiting to go over some more ideas with the client, I decided to set up a quick lighting scenario using a single speedlight on a stand with a honeycomb spot grid. I asked the bartender to start to light some candles that were on the table and fired off a few frames. The idea was to create a more dramatic effect using the existing lighting in the room and a controlled light source. I think it happed to fit well with the whole candle lighting thing, making the room seem completely dark except for where the bartender was lighting the candle. When shooting certain things, I often always see another oppurtunity available and I like to jump on it. Even if it turns out like crap, the way I see it is pixels are free! The learning experience is priceless! Speedlight in manual mode fired via canon wireless system.

Went for a walk to Brighton marina and wow the photo oppurtunities where astounding, unfortunantly my daughter(pictured) threw herself off this top step shortly after this picture so we had to rush her off to hospital.
She is fine just a bruised head, nose and lip and recovering on the sofa with cartoons.
LoL children are so fickle, one minute posing for a picture the next a stunt woman going head first down some steps, never a dull day.
Anyway me and my new sigma 10-20 are going back soon for a full photo shoot around the whole marina and seafront so watch this space.

This is the emptiest MTR train I've ever seen so I took the oppurtunity to get a photo, because usually my camera would just be jammed in someone's armpit. You see, people are normally packed in like Chinese sardines, and a random little old woman is trying to feel up my leg.
Taken at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. While standing on a ridge watching the shore birds this Great Blue flew by to join the party. oppurtunity shot - I was not planning to take a shot of the shore birds. They were too far away for real detail but were interesting to watch. However, when the heron flew between me and them I had to try something, so I ended up with about 6 - 8 shots of it going over the ridge until its landing in the water. It really was a "better to have somethnig than miss the shot" oppurtunity.

Normally I like to find green to photograph because it's so beautiful. Bu I realized I was missing out on an oppurtunity to show what it really looks like after 60+ days of 100 degrees F and no rain. There is also a picture of the cracked ground near where I was standing when I took this picture.

Damian Rigaud shifts looking up through his hair ... his blue eyes narrow.
Rena Mayne stepped into the back with the young, blushing officer, her finger traced his ear when they stopped and she whispered softly, convincing the boy to leave her alone. She gave him the sweetest smile and murmured, "Call me." as he stuttered and backed out.
Damian Rigaud watches the cherry leave. "I hope you brought me a bag... I think I need to vomit after that display."
Rena Mayne's smile faded as she leaned against the wall across from his cell. "A girl has to use the tools she has. I'm quite adept with mine. Shame to waste them, don't you think?"
Damian Rigaud chuckles harshly "Fugu... I think is a more accurate description."
Rena Mayne tilted her head and looked at him through the bars. She was determined to stay calm. "Fugu?"
Damian Rigaud looks up. "Japanese blowfish... a delicacy.. but the organs contain a deadly poison.. if its not prepared right.. " spreads his hands with a cold smile. "The japanese have an expression ..'I want to eat fugu, but I don't want to die'."
Damian Rigaud levels his gaze at you "So I think you can see the comparison I draw with dealing with you.."
Rena Mayne smiled faintly, rather liking being compared to a poison but not so much a blowfish. Too many conotations. She was going to ignore the insult, until he continued. "Awww...you want me. But you are afraid I'll be the death of you."

Rena Mayne raised an eyebrow. "You used to want me...now you want me dead?" she began to twirl a dark lock around a finger as she watched him. It was like teasing a tiger in a cage, she knew better, but couldn't resist.
Damian Rigaud shakes his head "No.. I am not one to waste an oppurtunity.. and death for you.. would be a most undeserved fate." Damian Rigaud looks you in the eye "Its a kindness you do not deserve."

My first attempt at astrophotography. Over the last few nights earth has been passing through the tail of comet Temple-Tuttle & this has resulted in leonid meteor showers. Last night was the first clear night and oppurtunity for me to give this a whirl.
All shots are 9 - 15 minute exposures, with an aperature of 4-5.6 & ISO of no more than 500.Next time I will try the stacking technique - I'm not too happy with the noise.
I didn't capture a meteor, in fact I only saw 4 in two hours. Early Tuesday morning is exepcted to produce another batch of bright meteors. I think I'll head out for that, this time with a blanket & a falsk of hot hot hot coffee!!
