i was doing some paper quilling when i got tagged by tatiana and i had a plastic packet in front of me with "thank you and best wishes" written on it, so i thought, "why not take the oppurtunity to thank a few well-deserving people in the process".. so this is what u get when u combine quilling and plastic bags..
firstly, a HUUUUUUGE thanks to my friends saikat and paul for being there for me in whatever way they can, inspite of miles of distance between us (and trust me, not even people living in the same city are always that helpful), thanks to madhu for being an absolute angel, and thanks to my dad for giving me my camera in the first place, and being the greatest guy i've known
and of course, thanks to tatiana for tagging me in the first place! :)
now for the 10 facts (man! i'm really bad at these things):
1 - i live in india, in the city of kolkata, which is also known as the city of joy, and i'm an amateur photographer
2 - besides photography, i also enjoy painting, singing, writing and various other artforms, like clay modelling and quilling (but u may have already realized that)
3 - i'm a bit moody, sometimes a bit eccentric, my friends say i'm crazy, but in a good way
4 - i love rock music and can't stand pop music, especially pop "divas" and boybands.. one of my favourite bands is linkin park and i have an enormous crush on mike shinoda (it's so hard to find cuteness, intelligence and great talent all in a single guy)
5 - some of my dreams are to travel around the world, to meet sir david attenborough and james hetfield, and to sprout wings and fly in the rain (i said they were dreams)
6 - i'm incredibly scared of spiders
7 - (at this point, i'm racking my brains to remember anything interesting to come up with.. i told u i'm bad at these things).. yea.. i love to take pictures in lowlight.. oh well, that wasn't too interesting, anyway
8 - i love spicy food.. i love biriyani (a mughlai dish) and spicy phuchkaas (ultra-delicious roadside snacks) but i love desserts too
9 - i hate the phrase "female actor".. there's a word called "actress", why not use it? or alternatively, why not use "male actress"?
10 - someday, i'm gonna kidnap paul's cat, jules, and then i'll train him (jules, not paul) to sing the opera and take over the world by his feline singing skills.. that was too random, i know, but i ran out of facts about me

Had a shoot with Erin at Franklin Park. We didn't have a lot of time but I think we got some great looking shots. I hope I have the oppurtunity to work with her again soon and get some more great shots

We were looking for the Juvenile Great Northern Diver which we did see but it did not present us with photographic oppurtunities.
The Goldeneye was having a rest from displaying sitting at the bottom of the dam wall 'chilling'.
had a congregation do at pennington flash and a bro snapped his ankle while playing football it was horrible but the upside was that the air ambulance came to take him to the hospital so i pounced ont the oppurtunity and got a few snaps!
My sister was given the oppurtunity to do some interior design work for one of the homes featured in this year's Homearama.
She wanted me to go out and snap a few photos for her portfolio. These are a few of the better looking shots I think. I may add more if I have time to edit them some.

A wild tigress patrols her territory one summer morning, in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in northern India's Rajasthan state.
This particular tigress T17 is very camera friendly and often poses for tourists. She is said to be the daughter of 'Machili', a widely known and photographed tigresses in this park.
I sighted my first tiger one summer afternoon at Bandipur Tiger Reserve, I guess, in 1981 - 82. This was on an elephant back during a trip with my immediate family. I was 6 or 7 then and the tigress was with its cubs at a waterhole. Although I have occasionally seen tigers in the wild ever since, I never got this close to one with a camera. On 25 June this year, I made my decent use of this oppurtunity, 27 - 28 years later.

This armchair is an elaboration on the ‘Military’ theme. Its basic construction is similar to that of the Military Chair. Rietveld added armrests and, more importantly, took this oppurtunity to provide the design with a seat and back support of laminated wood. This gives the chair a resiliency and degree of comfort lacking in the previous models.

Despite being one of the largest, if not the largest, continuous stretches of habitat and presence of a decent amount of burrows, Gopher Tortoises seem to be more difficult to observe in the fall line sandhills of Georgia than in appropriate habitat further south. This unique swath of sandhill halfway to the Blue Ridge mountains from the coast is the inland-most extent of the range of many species of plants and animals. In my opinion, and I'm sure very few will disagree, it is one of the most precious and iconic locations in the state. Truely, the crown jewel of Georgia's biodiversity. Unfortunately, between the destructive locals, fire supression, and Georgia Power's best efforts to turn the entire place into a solar farm (Clean energy? Absolutely not.) the fall line sandhills are far from a safe haven for the incredibly sensitive plants and animals that inhabit them. This federally protected Gopher Tortoise almost certainly fell victim to malicious and senseless killing in one way or another (car or weapon one, the other side of the shell was completely caved in but I saved you the gore by using this angle), mortally wonded and left to die a slow and painful death in the road. This is only one small example of the wanton destruction that goes on throughout rural areas of the United States, directly attributed to cruelty, selfishness, and ignorance of humans inhabiting these areas. Fortunately, these times are not entirely dark for the region, as Georgia DNR has done an excellent job of acquiring and managing a number of properties in the area providing some degree of protection to the irreplacable biodiversity. Additionally, I often joke about The Sand People being some sort of primitive tribe of violent and insane recluses, but the truth is it seems a good portion of them really are decent people, like the man who owns the property this turtle was attempting to cross the road from. He saw us taking pictures and came up to see what was going on, and seemed heart broken to see one of his local tortoises in this state. He commutes almost 3 hours to Atlanta daily for work, but choses to live in the area because he loves it so much. Similarly, a few weeks back a old weathered local expressed frustration over a large DOR Timber Rattlesnake we found nearby. People do care, and I urge anyone who can to take every oppurtunity to further educate the people living in sensitive areas who will listen about the irreplacable nature of what they share their yards with. In turn, maybe they will pass on that knowledge to their kids and the vicious cycle of ignorance and fear will begin to dissipate.

It's a great learning experience to shoot the same butterfly in different ways as it was very relaxed when I saw it. One should never miss such oppurtunity and also try different ways to capture the same instead of capturing one shot. I gave prime importance to learning to get sharp focus on its eyes, but its very difficult to do that.
Also I got great oppurtunity to learn to create photo collage in GIMP software which I thought is difficult to achieve in GIMP. Learning to use GIMP requires lots of patience but the video tutorials helps you to make things possible quickly. This video helped me to create the collage: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V1ule9T7Zo .
I layed out collage canvas in 8000x6000px resolution. The "Golden" gradient with rectangular vortex you see on the background took around 20 minutes to generate. I have AMD FX 6300 6-crore processor with 8 GB RAM. I wonder whether Photoshop will be much faster or not?
Anyways thanks to the single butterfly that gave me so much oppurtunity to learn. I would call this "Butterfly effect" of learning. :D ;)

The hugly anticipated event of the year to happen in Manchester, this is Jenson Button's McLaren F1 which raced down Deansgate.
The noise of the engine revving proper went through me like never before but was well worth the photo oppurtunity!
This is the only decent enough shot I have of it, although I do have some shots taken (indirectly) of the crowds which will also appear on here in due course!

Taken at the start of the womens tour 2014 in Oundle, Unfortunatley (or fortunatly dependant of your view point) I got stuck in a traffic jam due to the rolling road closures for 20min, so took the oppurtunity to grab the camera and get some shots as they passed by

A few weeks ago I had the oppurtunity to shoot emerging LA-band, The Guillotines. It was a fun morning hanging out with the girls and also walking around one of my favorite neighborhoods in LA: Silverlake.
Driving on Hoodstown Rd., I noticed a wonderful oppurtunity to take a picture of my car. It's a bit dirty from the dirt roads.

Got a rare oppurtunity to go over to Arran for the day and grabbed it with both hands even though the weather looked rather grim. Decided to at least get some exercise so hiked up into Glen Sannox - what a view!. The clouds even cleared to let me take some photos (after thoroughly soaking me first) - happy days :)
Maybe I'll try Glen Rosa next time...
I couldn't let the heat beat me this weekend to getting the rare oppurtunity of capturing the magnificence of these Tall Ships in Boston Harbor. The temperature gauge may have read mid 90s but that didn't put a stop to the thousands out this weekend thinking the same thing I was.
In taking this frame I tried to capture the one tall ship being flanked by the other while avoiding the heads of the crowds of other amateur photographers and onlookers.
Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS cropped slightly (to get rid of some unwanted human heads), no other post processing.

I made this video the other day and oh my goodness! I don't know if there are any other San Diegans out there but MAN WAS IT WINDY. my dad looked it up and it was something around 20mph. It was crazy, but made for some good photo oppurtunities I suppose. This is the canyon behind my house by the way. I have always wanted to go down there and take a million shots but this is the first time really.

Hannah happened to go up the hill of mud when the Camp staff manning the water hose had left. So she took the oppurtunity to grab it and hose down everyone behind her. She loved it, as is apparent in the next photograph.

Aliice and Chloe are two VERY talented models. I would've liked to take more photos of them, but this was not my project (this was an in-between shot and I just happened to have my camera). They are not only goregous girls, but they are very self directed and have their own ideas for shoots, as well.
Hopefully, this is not the last time I have the oppurtunity to shoot these two girls.. it was a pleasure!
