Operator 9 is on the line.
Two Bowens Esprit 500 W/S monolights--PC sync to the key light with the fill slave automatically triggered upon fire. On the left of the phone, at about an 8 o'clock angle, I shot through a white umbrella which was about the same level as the subject. The second (fill) light was higher up and maybe 6 feet away at a 5 o'clock angle, shooting into an umbrella facing a wall. The fill bounce off the wall diffused it pretty well overall and allowed me to bring out the gross, vintage-looking, olive-green background a bit more. I still have no idea what I'm doing, but I like the results of this experiment.

The real question was what kind of a macro can I shoot to capture the true essence of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma or even Echoes. I was thinking something with a standing wave but maybe a project for a later date.
I didn't think the PF thing was going to pan out and my attention soon turned to a little old phone I have. It's a nice old phone, it keeps the old piano company, they share dust. So, making it's debut as an image for Macro Mondays, Lockdown Song, Operator and accompanied by a Jim Croce song of the same name. You just can't go wrong with Jim Croce songs.

This is what happens when someone pushes the wrong button on an industrial oven to racks of plastic trays full of meat products. Instead of steam cooking the product, the operator selected roasting....at much higher temperature

I finally figured out what bothered me about the operators I've made in the past. No camo on helmets or vests. It just didn't flow without it. So I painted some helmets and vests, and here we are, something I can finally be satisfied with

In mid May I attended a workshop at Valle Verzasca in Switzerland. A weekend for photographing rocks and water.
Expect not much else for the next few days.
Cedar Waxwing, Bombycilla cedrorum. Lifer for me, during a Texas Master Naturalist Bird Hike. Really too small/distant for a good image, and probably the focus (if any) was elsewhere. Call it “painterly”. If I ever get a good shot, I’ll post that.

Recently private operator RDC started a new night train service from Westerland (Sylt) via Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main to Salzburg connecting the holliday regions of the German North Sea Islands with the German and Austrian Alps. In the afternoon of July 12, 2020 D-Rpool 193 813 has just started it's long northbound trip (NEx 1311) and got pictured just after the train's first stop at Freilassing.
Seit Anfang Juli betreibt das private Eisenbahnunternehmen RDC einen Nachtzug von Westerland (Sylt) über Hamburg und Frankfurt am Main nach Salzburg. Dieser Zug verbindet die Ferienregion der deutschen Nordseeinseln mit jener der deutschen und österreichischen Alpen. Am Nachmittag des 12. Juli 2020 hat die von Railpool geleaste D-Rpool 193 813 mit ihrem aus sieben Liegewagen gebildeten NEx 1311 gerade die ersten Kilometer ihrer rund 1200 Kilometer langen Fahrt absolviert, als sie kurz nach dem ersten fahrplanmäßigen Aufenthalt in Freilassing aufgenommen werden konnte.

In 2016 Czech operator LEO Express ordered net EMU's. The interior of their FLIRT units were in dire need of a renovation and the operator was planning the expand operations to new services, stretching their excisting fleet even more. Eventually the acceptance tests of these new CRRC Sirius units took slightly longer (officially due to the covid-crisis) and by that time LEO Express was bought by Renfe. Renfe cancelled the order and the CRRC Sirius units were left without owner. In 2024 the other large private operator in Czechia, RegioJet, acquired the units. Gradually the units were put into service on the Ústí nad Labem - Kolín route. Since the summer of 2025 all 3 units were active.
As a passenger I got to say the units are okay-ish. Somehow they remind me of the danish IC4 units. They looked great as well, but on the inside you could see signs of a different quality. I've been a couple of times on unit 665 001 and I wasn't all they impressed with the quality of the ride and with the sturdiness of some interor parts. However from the outside I'd say they look amazing. The RegioJet livery onto LEO Express' dark colours really fit well. Even better then their normal bright yellow trains. During the summer of 2025 I managed to get unit 665 001 on photo as it made its way to Ústí nad Labem. The city has already been reached, but due to turning around in one of the stations, it would take another 15 minutes until it would reach it final destination.
