Operator 9 is on the line.

Two Bowens Esprit 500 W/S monolights--PC sync to the key light with the fill slave automatically triggered upon fire. On the left of the phone, at about an 8 o'clock angle, I shot through a white umbrella which was about the same level as the subject. The second (fill) light was higher up and maybe 6 feet away at a 5 o'clock angle, shooting into an umbrella facing a wall. The fill bounce off the wall diffused it pretty well overall and allowed me to bring out the gross, vintage-looking, olive-green background a bit more. I still have no idea what I'm doing, but I like the results of this experiment.

The real question was what kind of a macro can I shoot to capture the true essence of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma or even Echoes. I was thinking something with a standing wave but maybe a project for a later date.

I didn't think the PF thing was going to pan out and my attention soon turned to a little old phone I have. It's a nice old phone, it keeps the old piano company, they share dust. So, making it's debut as an image for Macro Mondays, Lockdown Song, Operator and accompanied by a Jim Croce song of the same name. You just can't go wrong with Jim Croce songs.

I finally figured out what bothered me about the operators I've made in the past. No camo on helmets or vests. It just didn't flow without it. So I painted some helmets and vests, and here we are, something I can finally be satisfied with

A signalman gives a boost to his assistant at Sala Mae Tha railway station in Lamphun Province. The assistant, who happens to be his grandson, is fastening a "token" to be plucked from its place by the operator of the next passing train. Tokens, an early system of track control which predate electronic signaling, are common in Thailand.

In mid May I attended a workshop at Valle Verzasca in Switzerland. A weekend for photographing rocks and water.

Expect not much else for the next few days.

Cedar Waxwing, Bombycilla cedrorum. Lifer for me, during a Texas Master Naturalist Bird Hike. Really too small/distant for a good image, and probably the focus (if any) was elsewhere. Call it “painterly”. If I ever get a good shot, I’ll post that.

😃 Happy Sliders Sunday!

Bit of a foggy start to the day in London this morning. This shot was taken at 6.30 looking towards HMS Belfast, with Tower Bridge in the distance.

Having experimented for a few weeks with a neutral density setting on my phone, to try and make water look smooth, the Thames actually looked very smooth on this very still morning with just a 1/3 second exposure.

Stretching for the line.

You're out on your own

Let go of your life

Of course a red barn will stand out in late autumn when most of the colours are quite muted. This is a pretty modern farming operation with many silos and often the harvesting is contracted to custom operators. Quite often the corn crops are not harvested until the fields are frozen to allow better access to the fields!

Oh, and the actual shutter speed was 1/800, with a +2/3 bias:)
